Strange Question

I drink now and again, and I'm fine apart from times I'm intoxicated, obviously. But yeah, drinking alot for a long time will do noticeable damage to anyone. I doubt I'd drink if it wasn't for the fact my friends see it as a way of socialising. But, nothing beats USA fried chicken in a wrap with barbequeue sauce after a couple of drinks... Mmm...

To be honest I don't judge anyone whether they drink, take drugs etc

I just don't like people who judge other people like that...they can never understand since they were not in the position before.

Honestly, if my friends think I need to kill my brain cells, and endanger my health to socialize with them, it'd be time to get some new friends.

If your smart you wouldn't reallly endanger yourself. Infact people who take huge amounts of drugs and alcohol I would say just need help. Unless if they begin to behave violently then it wouldn't hurt to help them out.

It is really easy to blame an individual the problems he or she is in. No...I am not saying he or she who takes drugs/alcohol are completely innocent. They are to be blamed for as well, they should not even conisder touching the stuff since it only increases problems.

But usually taking this view from a wider perspective, these problems would have not a occur if society had not failed those individuals in the first place, the ones who take huge amounts of alcohol and drugs.

When the society does not help, then people usually resort to drugs/alcohol because it is a easy way out. Usually in many of these circumstances this is usually how people get themselves in to this mess.

The problem is best not to be avoided, since it can turn into a major problem.

I'm not sure if everyone is okay with the thread heading in this direction, but Cynthia has participated in the current flow of this discussion.

There are a variety of concerns that one who chooses to drink alcohol should ideally be aware of, but a risk of losing brain cells is only an unsupported myth. The article to which this abstract refers explains how alcohol impairs brain cells' ability to communicate with each other, but that this ability can, for the most part, grow back because the brain cells themselves remain intact. This results of this experiment on rats has since been shown true for other species as well (including chimpanzees and humans). If you choose to abstain from alcohol, it would more accurate to reference health risks or neurological damage in general.

Edit (2008.10.19):

Clarified the relevance of this information.

Thanks I shall keep that in mind
