HIV could be eliminated in a decade

Yes, and according to other models, we could share all our food and make sure no one starves. And also make sure every one is clothed. And logically, there's no reason for wars, so under that model no one would have to suffer from oppression or genocide either. All suffering could end in 10 years if we follow the right model!

Mathematical models are very hand for predicting human behavior.

And I don't see how we would get China (with the fastest growing infection rate, or atleast second to africa) to comply with us. Their sex education and disease prevention/control is so shitty.

It's not really about whether China wants to or not. The country is still ~60% rural, huge parts of the country don't have electricity access, hundreds of millions of people live off a dollar a day. Despite the prosperity of the coastal regions, the majority of China is still equatable to the third world. It's not just a politics problem.

Since society is too obsessed with money to help anyone out, I doubt it'll happen.

Generalities ftw.

China wouldn't be the big obstacle, if we're looking at eliminating aids worldwide. China's government is pretty cool-headed and is generally willing to cooperate with other countries. Those other governments the media demonizes every day, the fiercely isolationist ones who would as soon go to war as cooperate with the west with their every breath, who would never agree with a plan supported by the first world.

But that's irrelevant, since aids will never be eliminated in any kind of wordwide top-down initiative. Governments would never put any serious effort into it, and people wouldn't cooperate.

Since society is too obsessed with money to help anyone out, I doubt it'll happen.

Pretty soon, there won't be any more money to be obsessed with. We're going to have to find some new generalizations. ;)

But they couldn't pull either of those off for only 3.7 billion dollars.

It's an interesting study, and although it won't happen, the numbers still add up well enough that by 2020 HIV cases will still more than likely be cut in half.
