  1. I think it could be a combination of how difficult they are to cast and the toll they take on the user. Long-range tomes probably take a little more concentration than something like Fire, as it's almost impossible to double with one. You're also left completely vulnerable when attacked up close. Although FE4 throws that out of the window, the Fala line seemed to get the the short end of the stick. Fire magic was heavier but otherwise the same as the others.
  2. Lucius, he's generally a nice guy and his conversations with Serra were hilarious. There's also Kent, his ending with Lyn was fairly sweet.
  3. Most of mine are minor miscalculations, resulting in an enemy surviving with a little health or one of my units dying. Others are leaving weak units just in range of enemies so my planned defense formation fails.
  4. That's good to hear! Arden has pretty high defense, I'm not sure if the AI are programmed to attack someone if they'll deal one damage. I'm not sure what's up with Midale, I may need to retweak that. Currently, I'm fairly happy with balance. Holyn and Beowulf might need a little something but generally nobody's a total failure in the first gen. I forgot Hannibal so I'll probably give him Astra next time. I'll also try something with the subs. A few class changes could prove fun.
  5. A rather crude solution would be to give the luck of evadey characters a major boost, that way they'd dodge more compared to their low lucked friends. On the downside, it'd mess up critical hits to an extent.
  6. There's a lot less documentation for hacking SNES titles compared to the GBA ones. Along with fewer tools. It really depends how far you want to go with it. Changing the characters' classes, stats and like is fairly easy. Text editing's not too bad as Dark Twilkitri has tools available. Map and event editors exist, but any information about them is in Japanese.
  7. GTO's not that creepy, it was toned down a lot from the manga. It also gets milder as the series progresses. Just finished Ranma 1/2, currently on Gokudo-kun Manyuuki. Imagine Slayers but with the main character being completely amoral and selfish. I also need to finish Saint Seiya, the Asgard arc's fairly dull though.
  8. I wholeheartedly agree on the voice! The tutorial's also massively helpful, it's wonderful to have everything explained so clearly.

    Mappy trouble

Whilst still rather clueless, I'm glad I've got the thing sorted out. Thanks for the help!

    Mappy trouble

The empty space the tutorial recommended ^^. Messing with the Chapter Unit editor seems to do stuff too. I'll see if anything in particular triggers it. EDIT: I messed with the loading co-ordinates for enemies and that seemed to do it. Although I could anything else without much trouble.
  11. A draft playthrough with 5 people might be tricky, fatigue would be nasty. Arrangements might have to be made. Maybe two rounds of drafts? Something like having an A and B squad, where each character has an "understudy". Just an idea. I'd be up for it though; albeit with a poor survival rank :P.

    Mappy trouble

A fresh ROM and new maps seemed to do the trick. I gradually built the maps up too, inserting them at a few different stages. It does mean I'll have to do some of the other stuff again, thankfully I still have my script :P.

    Mappy trouble

Whilst working through my FE7 project, I've come across something nasty. Following Blazer's tutorial, I had a go at inserting maps. The offsets were fine with correct tile sets but my maps all seem to come out garbled. I've tried a few different tileset downloads but still nothing. Google produced a few people with the same problem but none of them provided any solutions. Thanks in advance! proddoscrn.BMP
  14. Best: Othin - Wrath and the weak weapon triangle meant he was a killing machine, especially with how often he dodged. The Pugi axe(s) were fairly overkill too. Worst: Marty - 0 base stats for both skill and speed, his CON really didn't make up for it. The SNES titles didn't like axe users too much, Book 2 in FE3 didn't even have any.
  15. I found Sue fairly useful. She did require a little babying initially but helped a great deal against various flying things. She doubled on a regular basis and the Killer Bow gave her a crazy critical hit chance. Her strength and defense were pretty low but an A rank support with Roy helped solve the former. She was also dodging enough to survive. Although I don't think she would have been as good without the support. I never really tried Dorothy, she wasn't too amazing in her first chapter. Generally, one archer was fine although Igrene was a fine filler.
  16. Best: FE4 (Although FE7 came pretty close) - Chapter 4's BGM, Alvis' theme and the recruitment theme being my favourites. Worst: FE6 - I liked FE4's recruitment theme, I wasn't pleased with this rendition though :P.
  17. A few that my family and I have put together; Any non-mounted axe-user : Axe Moron. After all the bad decisions the AI axe-users made, we decided that anyone using an axe isn't too bright. These decisions include attacking with a 0% hit rate, 0 damage, literally no health and killing themselves against tough units where there were easier targets available. This extended to playable characters after I met Johan and Johalva. Sigurd: Manly Marth. Sigurd was certainly different from Marth. He was mounted, and actually hold his own from the word go. There's always the chin too. Finn: The Other Marth. My sister found the resemblance hilarious. Ishtor: Brock. Goes without saying. Hector: The Man. He'd got through some ridiculous situations, so he's deserving of the title.
  18. I felt like Alvis was more of a tragic villain, Manfloy really knew how to pull his strings. Even if Alvis got rid of Manfloy, there were probably other Lopt Bishops which knew about Alvis' Lopt blood. It doesn't help that Alvis' desire to rule took priority over common sense. Hilda, though, had nothing to redeem her. Blume, I do feel slightly sorry for, he seemed very reluctant but went along with it anyway. Brian was much the same, he didn't seemed to know enough about what was going on.
  19. I guess Lester might appreciate it, although he shouldn't really be holding onto it early on. Having Continue does make the Killer Bow even nastier, he'll get at least 3 hits in with Duel and Continue (if he has the pursuit ring). Accuracy and low skill are fixed by the Killer Bow and critical pops up once in a while to help one. I still prefer MidirxEdain, there's always someone else who could do with the Pursuit Ring. Plus, my Midir's tend to beat my Jamka's. It's just my luck.
  20. Best: Jamka - I'm pretty sure he's considered a prince of Verdane. He was also smart enough to notice that things were up, as well as go for a better weapon than his brothers/uncles. There's also the matter of (potentially) crushing Azel's and Midale's dreams in one fell swoop. Worst: Shagall - Murdering his own father and then tricking the ever so gullible Eltosian into fighting Sigurd isn't great. Neither is what he does in chapter 3. I guess he deserves the lack of any Hezul blood ^^.
  21. A friend of mine was curious so I gave him my patched FE4 to try. Not the best idea, he didn't realise you could save midmap and Azel soon kicked the bucket. Although I did get my 10 year-old sister to do the first 10 chapters of FE3 Book 1. The lack of weapon triangles and other stuff meant I could tell her who was good and she'd do the rest.
  22. I've had a couple of good Alec's, I can get them to promotion on most playthroughs or at least close to it. My Noish with 10 speed at level 19 made me sad though.
  23. I'm glad you found a way around it, I've been keeping an eye on this. The first FE has tempted me but I couldn't navigate through the menus so I gave up. May I ask what you're using to do the translation? Just out of curiousity.
