  1. I want the next game to just be a singe linear route game. No more route splits, it just causes things to be spread very thin. If we have to have a route split, I'd prefer something minor like the route splits in FE5 and FE6, where the only things that really changed are what characters you recruit. At most, something like Shadows of Valentia or Sacred Stones, where the story still ultimately plays out the same regardless.

It being Marth's story shouldn't detract from everyone else. Other characters should be fleshed out for the sake of Marth's story.

As far as storytelling go the motto ''Your enemies shall define you'' typically is one to follow. Our achievements are made all the greater by the force one must overcome to get there. Path of Radiance is clearly Ike's story before anyone else, and that journey is all the more impact because the shadow of the Black Knights is always there. Marth's story on the other hand is hindered by every single one of his enemies being a non entity to Marth's story. Michalis might be important to Archenea but he's certainly not important to Marth. That this goes for Medeus, the grand antagonist and the arch nemesis of Marth's house as well reflects very poorly on Marth's journey.

What are the Starks without the Lannisters? What's Luke Skywalker without Darth Vader and what's Mario without Bowser? Infinitely lesser is what they would be.

Pretty much this. Marth also needs other characters to talk to aside from the boring adviser guy and the plot important princess. He really would have benefited from additional scenes where he talks with either Caeda and/or Hardin, especially the latter considering how big they play up Marth and Hardin's friendship in the sequel, which as mentioned earlier, is someone you wouldn't really notice from playing Shadow Dragon considering they have only one conversation with each other, and Hardin doesn't say or do anything after his recruitment.

Shadow Dragon has its charm as a one time thing and I can cut it some slack since it was Intsys' first FE remake.

New Mystery has no excuses however.

Nah, New Mystery isn't as bad about it since we do get actual support conversations to flesh out the characters (even if a large majority of them are with Kris), as well as base conversations explaining some lore and relationships as well. It's still held by an archaic structure and some bland characters mind you, but overall, it's alright compared to Shadow Dragon.

I seem to have missed the Shadow Dragon discussion some pages back. I've always been a rather big critic of it. I don't think the minimalist approach is a good fit for Fire Emblem. In many cases I even think its self defeating.

I think the whole concept of mute units goes against what Fire Emblem is supposed to be. What separates Fire Emblem from Advance wars is that Advance Wars has random soldiers while Fire Emblem has people with their own design, personality, hopes and dreams. They can't have much of that when they rarely talk. Some people even never talk aside from their death quote. It also serves as rather poor preparation for the sequel. Hardin's bond with Marth is supposed to be important but you'd never know it from playing Shadow Dragon where they only have a single conversation. Both the lore of Shadow Dragon and its sequel naturally slide Hardin in the role of Marth's second in command but he can't be that if he never does or says anything post recruitment.

The minimalist approach also doesn't work for the villains. How can we impressed by villains who never show up for work? Medeus, Camus, Michalis and Gharnef all show up only once or perhaps twice if they are really lucky. Why am I supposed to see Michalis as the second coming of Lothe when he spends the entire war cowering inside his castle? Why am I supposed to think he's a fallen hero if he only acts as a generic evil tyrant the single time he appears on screen?

Its also rather hard to get invested in the story when its told in such a boring way. Almost all the cutscenes have Marth talk only with Malledus who isn't very interesting or Nyna who's interesting but not very charismatic. FE7 has a trio of lords with different personalities bouncing off each other but Shadow Dragon only has Marth and a really limiting set of conversation partners.

I do like Marth but Shadow Dragon's depiction of Marth does seem to be kinda non canon. He's depicted as a bit more vengeful, mature, confidant and manly. But Shadow Dragon is notably the only game that depicts Marth like this. The original games, Heroes, Warriors and even the direct sequel of Shadow Dragon have the much more softer and sensitive Marth that he's generally depicted as.

Yeah I'm kind of in agreement with this. Shadow Dragon probably does have one of the weaker stories in the series cuz there's barely any story being told, the villains don't get much screen time, and aside from characters like Caeda, Minerva, Merric, and so on, pretty much no one gets any dialogue aside from their recruitments and death quotes. It's certainly nowhere near as bad as Fates' story mind you, but the lack of...well, anything, just means that it's hard to really care about what's going on.

It's not like SD doesn't have better villains than Gharnef. Camus, Hardin, and Medeus say hi. They just actively chose to go with the worst one. But it also was an understandable choice given that Gharnef is really the villain who moves the plot of SD the most.

The Darios question is really dependent on whether they go the canon route or the non-canon route. They won't be throwing him into the story mode if they're making a 3H Warriors; they could add him to History Mode, however. He's much more likely to appear in a non-canon crossover.

Ok I guess Gharnef could stay since he is more or less the original main villain besides Medeus (even if he is boring and archaic as sin). But I would drop Validar and Iago in a heartbeat. Choosing games with only bad villains always spelled doom, but the fact that they went out of their way to only pick the worst villains from those games really doesn't help.

I've mentioned before that I"d prefer a non-canon sequel over a canon sequel, so by default I'm going with my idea as Darios as the lead.

  6. 10 minutes ago, Fabulously Olivier said:

Probably, yeah. They weren't even playable. Just Robin copy pasted on an enemy model.

I could also see the OCs being cut, as there is precedent for that in spinoff sequels (see DQ Heroes). Funny thing is, you could actually do so without losing their moveset, as it's a realllly good fit for Leif's Light Brand (and possibly Roy's Binding Blade).

Exactly. The chances of the Dark Mage loser trio being playable in a sequel, let alone even coming back in a sequel, is extremely unlikely, especially if we get games like Elibe, Tellius, Valentia, and 3H in a sequel, cuz those games offer a much better and more varied selection of villains like Black Knight, Ashnard, Zephiel, Nergal, Berkut, Death Knight, and so on, so at that point, why waste time making the Dark Mage loser trio playable when there's little demand for them to be playable when you can just devote that time to making more popular villains playable?

As for the OCs, I could see something like Darios being the main character as he tries to find his way back to Aytolis after falling in the dark portal and landing up somewhere in another world, so we'd still have the moves of the lemon twins.

It's very rare for Warriors games to cut content. And, unless they decide to build it off of the Three Houses build of the Warriors engine, there is no potential reason to cut characters. And even then, if Three Houses was developed after the creation of Warriors character assets, they would be pre-built into the game.

Equal representation isn't something we should be aiming for. Fair representation, sure. But only insofar as it means adding characters, rather than cutting them.

    (But #cutElise).

Honestly the only characters I can actually see being cut are the Dark Mage loser trio of Gharnef, Validar, and Iago, cuz really, who the hell would miss these losers?

Yes, and there were probably reasons why it took IS literal years to get to FE6 which I'm sure that November 2019 banner reminded them of in a painful way financially.

I never stated that I would've deleted that banner and replace it with the OC one if I could or that FE6 shouldn't get anymore banners ever. All I said was that it would've made no difference to me personally if that OC banner happened instead of the FE6 one.

That doesn't mean it deserves to just be neglected though

  9. 40 minutes ago, Tybrosion said:

This is probably because I kinda hate FE6 (plus it already got a banner earlier in the year), but I would've been fine if they just had a Thrasir, Lif, Gustav and Henriette banner there instead because that FE6 banner was about as interesting to me (which is to say, it was not at all) as that hypothetical OC banner would've been plus that OC banner would have actually been profitable for IS

You do realize it took two fucking years for FE6 to even get that first banner right? FE6 isn't one of my favorite games either, but to say it shouldn't get a second banner cuz "I hate it" is just mean and petty, especially since it could use all the banners it can get to play catch up after having not getting a new unit for two years since launch besides Klein.

Something interesting to note. We can see the main characters in Gerudo town where some event happens where they must protect Zelda. We can also see Link rather than ''Linkle'' in this scene, meaning that in this game Link was allowed into Gerudo town without crossdressing. Kind of a shame really. The idea of Zelda and Urbosa arranging the disguise for a thoroughly flustered Link would have been a fun little scenario. It also detracts a little bit of the worldbuilding.

Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Trailer Reveals BOTW Champions' Moves

Maybe something happened between the 100 year gap that caused Gerudo Town to suddenly ban men? I dunno, maybe there will be an arbitrary excuse for why Link can enter without a disguise

  11. Don't bother with Birthright and Revelation. Gameplay wise, Birthright is just boring and piss easy, and Revelation is just really, REALLY bad, with stupid gimmicky maps and shit unit balancing. Story wise, they aren't much better than Conquest. If anything, Birthright has the worst of both worlds, it's a very bare bones story while still being dragged down by the whole story of Fates being a complete mess. And the less said about Revelation's story the better.

Still, I guess if you enjoyed what you played of Fates, you'll get a kick out of Awakening and Shadows of Valentia. Shadows of Valentia is tied with Path of Radiance as my favorite Fire Emblem game, so I definitely recommend playing it 🙂

I think the worst part of Mercedes’ voice is the fact that her VA also did Rinea in Echoes, and that voice would have fit Mercedes so much better than her current voice does. I love Mercedes as a character, and I don’t think her voice is bad per se, but the fact that it could have been much better IMO kinda hurts.

Agreed, they really should have just had Dorothy Elias Fahn use her Rinea voice for Mercedes instead of that annoying Minnie Mouse voice

Talk about Jill made me realize that we finally have a flier that truly surpasses Cordelia in terms of offensive stats AND Weapon power. Cordelia got Resplendent stats and an extra Flower, so she got 38/38 offensive stat distribution. Jill got 39/40 with a super Asset for Spd. At +Spd+10+10, Cordelia got 42/45 and Jill got 43/48. Talregan Axe is pretty busted compared to Cordelia's Lance.

Honestly I really am glad that Jill is an axe flier instead of lance flier #4786893, because we hadn't gotten a single new axe flier in the regular pool since launch.

Having Jill be a lance flier cuz of her starting out as one in Path of Radiance would've made sense, sure, but it would also just make her blend into the competition. Like, why would you want to build a 5 star locked lance flier when you could build a more easily available 3-4 star lance flier like Cordelia, Catria, Shigure, Clair, Shanna, Thea, or Altena?

In contrast, there's barely any good axe fliers available, which means Jill has less competition in that area, so it really makes me happy that they made Jill an axe flier instead of yet another lance flier.
