Being bow-legged means your tibias curve outward and your knees cannot touch one another when you put your feet together while standing up. I think it's called being bow-legged because the shape of the tibia is like that of the kind of bow used to fire arrows. But then, the discomfort and pain came mainly from spreading my thighs like that, so I do think flexibility is still involved.
