  1. Most of Shadow of War's microtransactions don't give any significant advantages compared to a player who actually went through the game and did sidequests, rewards and pick up loots.  I know this as I have the game myself and the grind doesn't even take long. Most of the grind comes if you're rushing through the story but if you do the sidequests then it doesn't take long at all to beat the game to get the true ending you want.  If you just play main game normally and do a couple of sidequests you gain a significant amount of rewards to the point that you don't even need to grind at all.  Most of the people who are complaining about the microtransaction in this game are complaining over nothing or just terrible at the game which are the reviewers.  I've been enjoying the entire game as a whole without ever having to touch the microtransactions or lootbox system even once.

Biggest improvement in level design over past 3D Marios is the decision to not make every level have the same amount of Moons. The level can be as large and as long as the developers wanted it to be. No more filler objectives like how Mario 64 keeps asking you to climb to top of the level multiple times. And no more having to build a second, similar level like in Galaxy because 6 stars wasn't enough for all your ideas. Or building a second, similar Game because 120 stars wasn't enough for all your ideas.

My only concrete complaint is with the face buttons. Two of the four face buttons are dedicated to jump, while the other two are dedicated to throwing cappy. There isn't really a fourth integral action in the game, but they should have dedicated one of the buttons to Dive/Roll, which I'm using all the time.

yeah the biggest complaint is pretty much majority of the cool cappy moves are done by motion controls.  Which unfortunately on the face buttons are only throw cappy.

Luckily most of them aren't necessary to beat the game.  But I do think maybe one or two moons will require using the motion for some of the puzzles.

Already? Please tell me there's at least $60 worth of content in there...

my completion rate is only 15%.  Nowhere near 100%.

This has the biggest post game in a 3D Mario yet.  I only have about 185 moons and there are over 900 or more to collect.

I see, thought I do wonder why they made it so short...

no idea and people complain about the play limit demos.  This one outright just gives you 1 min and reboots the game.

Most of the negativity is honestly overexaggerated considering most of the demo levels are literally the first levels of the game.  Levels that usually don't have that much of the so called amazing level designs that could be in later parts of the game.

Sorry, I just have a laundry list of gripes to get off my chest over the past two days:

    • The game decides allied captains for you. You can't change them with other available characters. And most important, you can't decide that you want to play as those characters for that map. You can only pair up with them. (Story Mode issue only, History Mode doesn't care about having duplicates in a battle)

With the exception of some map restriction you can change your allied captains with other playable characters.  There is an option for that on the preparation screen when you select the unit in the green and blue spaces.  Green spaces make them AI only.  Blue spaces make them playable units.  While the game preselects some for you, you do have the option to change them to whoever you want.  Once you do beat the story mode it's all free pick whoever you want.

I'm not dragging the game down. So far when the reviews showed up, it appears mixed. If that does change, then it isn't mixed.

Review scores don't mean a thing when it comes to quality true but it does play some part in the marketing side of things in which case, people will buy based on the ratings and I don't blame them considering that games are quite costly these days with day one DLC and all.

So far, it appears to be mixed. If atleast more reviewers recommend it, then I can change it to positive.

Anyways since we're on the topic here, why are you bothered if I said it as mixed or not? Even if its positive here, people will still bash the overall quality of the game for some reason.

The thing is almost a majority of Warriors games always gets 6 or 7's or even way less than this.  The fact that it's maintaining a 7 and above ratio in the North American Audience actually means it's doing much better than a majority of warriors games and that's a good thing.  Also never read the numbers.  Read their reviews you can see most of them will say that the game is better than hyrule warriors and even that game's ratio is not reflective of the words that are being spoken by the majority who "actually played the game" and most of them will tell you including me and a couple of my friends that FEW is the better game than HW.

    Sorry, but FTFY

As someone who has the game, I never needed to ever needed to use the microtransaction at all.  Yeah it's there but it's really easy to ignore it and the game is 100% not even difficult to beat it.  You can vote for your wallet for buying the game but completely ignore the options to use those microtransactions.  I've done it plenty of times with Battlefield 1 and so on and really don't even need any of that stuff to enjoy the game.  Majority of the items that I've seen that people pull from are pointless and not worth your time and you're better off getting the actual items in game anyway since they're usually better than from the loot box system.

So people are honestly overblowing the Shadow of War stuff way out of proportion.

I wonder if Japanese players would like an option for English audio.

Not sure about the FE community but it has happened when later Call of Duty games came with Japanese only voices in the Japanese versions of the game.  The Japanese fans wanted the english voice option and even stated to want to boycott it.  So really, not much different from how we feel when the original language is no longer an option.

  9. I wanted to make this write up since I finally got a chance to play a couple hours of Fire Emblem Warriors.  I can tell you right now, I feel this is the best Warriors game I have played in a very long time.  As someone who played hyrule warriors enough and played other warriors games from friends co-op, Fire Emblem warriors blends in the best elements from Fire Emblem and puts them into a warriors game that blends really well to create one of the most fun warriors games to date.  Keep in mind I will use hyrule warriors as a base since it’s their most recent entry.

So what is it that makes Fire Emblem Warriors more distinct from other warrior’s games?  In most warrior games, the base game is that you are a one man army who destroys an entire army and it has a lot of beat em up elements and objective based style gameplay combat.  So what usually happens is that you are placed in a map with a couple of forts and your objectives can be capture forts, destroy specific enemies in the map or kill the boss to beat the battle.  You also have AI partners that interact with you during the battles telling you how their progress is going, achieving objectives and attacking and defending your forts.  Usually keeping a good number of forts up will help make your progress and transition to the main objectives much faster.

Combat is your usual warriors game affair.  You got your light attack, heavy attacks and then your special attacks which usually involve the crit animations you see.  Just like in Hyrule Warriors you can upgrade their skills to add even more combos, make them stronger, change their weapons and become an one man army of destruction.  On video it pretty much looks like your standard beat em up and honestly that's not a surprising first impression with it but every character has these quirks and upgrades that will extend how you will play each characters.

However one of the biggest flaws with this system in previous games is that your AI partners are shall we say……………stupid or useless.  In Hyrule Warriors, one of the biggest issues is that your AI partners are always either calling for help, can’t defend for crap or constantly badgering you to help you and when a side mission comes up you’re either left with being to fend for yourself to either walk across all the way to the map to help them or stick with the main objective and hope you actually beat it before their forts are captured.  In Fire Emblem Warriors one of the biggest changes is that you can command those AI partners to do what you want them to do.  Do you want your Lissa to stay put and defend this one specific fort on the map?  Do you want your Robin to actually go out of his way to help this one unit who needs help?  And yes you can command your units to attack the bosses with you and help you complete sidequests.  So now if say 2 things happen to pop up like a sidequest pops up and you want a fort to be defended, you can tell 2 of your units to do either one and they will actually succeed in doing it.

Yes the partners in this game have a mind on their own and they will complete objectives for you even if you don’t tell them to do anything.  For example, one map I was in I didn’t tell any of my ai partners to do anything and yet they were able to capture forts, defend the main objectives and was competently moving around the map to help out whenever they can.  One scenario I had for example, was that my AI partner Frederick decided to be ballsy and take on the main boss on his own whom was a mage.  Of course we all know Great Knights resistance is bad against magic users.  So when I was wondering why Frederick was constantly talking about how much he was injured I checked my map and his hp and noticed he was at low hp and taking on the enemy himself I was like oh no and I can command him to retreat to a fort to recover hp.  Which is huge improvement in the scenarios that I can make happen and let the ai partners to not overstep their bounds.

There is now a lot of strategic and tactical elements put into this game that blends so well with Fire Emblem and the difficulty is now a lot harder and challenging.  Sure you can be a one man army but this game demands you to not play favoritism of a specific character otherwise you will be destroyed really easily.  For example, the weapon triangle that has been implemented in this game is very much prevalent.  Let’s say I am a sword user and I go into attack some Pegasus knights, the results would be total destruction for me and chances are my sword unit will get mobbed and combed almost to death.  When I was trying to attack the Pegasus knight boss with my sword, it didn’t flinch them at all and I couldn’t stun them and they took away 3/4 of my life.  I had no choice but to retreat and direct my axe users to fight them.

Another element is the pairup system, you can combine one unit with another to create a single powerful unit together so that you can both do huge combos together, build supports and at the same create an awesome musou attack.  However, the downside of this is that since they’re paired up with you, you have one less unit to say defend, attack or move to other locations.  Since the enemy AIs in this game are way more aggressive in taking your forts, it could be rewarding for you but on the other side of the map, it’s cause for danger if no one is defending your forts from across the map.

So there is a lot of tactical elements in this game that really blend well with the warriors games and the fact that it works so well with fire emblem and warriors is amazing.  I can’t just send in Lucina to battle lance units just because she’s the main character.  I gotta send in lissa or Frederick to combat them and make critical decisions immediately when certain events and actions happen during the battlefield.  You can't really play favortism or just say I only want to use Chrom the entire time.  The game really encourages you to switch frequently and I think this works and benefits the game really well.  There is a lot of nice risk and rewards in place in this game and I am honestly having a blast with this game.  Could the roster be better?  I would say yes but honestly, it is not a deal breaker and I highly recommend this game over something like Hyrule Warriors anyday.  This is the most fun warriors games I have played in years.

Watching you play the game, it looked incredibly easy.

I mean incredibly almost hilariously easy

Have you tried Hard/Lunatic mode yet?

one of my units almost died in normal mode quite a few number of times.  So yeah higher difficulty will be much harder.  Since your AI enemies are more competent, it almost means the enemies can take you out more easily than previous titles and can combo you near death.

  11. I went to Japan a year ago so I can fill in some things.  Well there aren't going to be any specific Fire Emblem stores but there are some FE merchs that I've spotted.

Akihabara which super potato is pretty much a must place to go to find some retro games but there are tons of other retro game stores around so take a look a round.

There is a giant building called Yodobashi Akiba where it's like couple of stories high that houses tons of electronics, gundams, computers, video games merchandise figures etc.  They even had Fire Emblem cipher in there so check it out.

Amiami is a must go if you can find the cheapest merchandise store in the entire district.  I've seen a cordelia figure there once for 50 bucks on sale.  Unfortunately they sell out quick so be aware of that.  Keep in mind their store houses new products and a used section in different floors so be selective and browse as carefully as possible before you make your decision.

Mandarake is also a nice place to find any old used products.  There couple of tons of them in Tokyo so definitely check them out as I've spotted lots of nice used FE merch and doujinshis.

There is a Toranoana  if you want some Fire Emblem doujins sfw and nsfw.

Really schedule an entire day or two in Akihabara.  You can also go to Nakano Broadway which has tons of anime merch.

Is Fire Emblem Warriors going to have local splitscreen, similar to Hyrule Warriors?

Hayashi-san: Yes. We anticipated people would like that kind of gameplay, so we’ve made local co-op available where you can separate the joy-con from the system and play splitscreen.

I think Lucina says in FP that some of the gemstones were lost and that contributed to her need to flee.

Only one of them was lost.  They only were able to retrieve 4 of the 5 as explained in the Drama CD below and inside the FP story.  Their pursue of the Gems might have been a few long battles before they finally reached the current situation they were in shown in the canon timelines.  But obviously anything before that is still an unknown thing.

I actually never played a Xenoblade Chronicles game before, but after seeing the Nintendo direct I think I really wanna give this one a try. I'm also shallow and wanted to try out Xenoblade Chronicles 1 after seeing shirtless Shulk in Smash Bros, because that's how I make decisions apparently. But yeah, I haven't yet because I haven't felt like throwing up $100+ dollars for it, I will eventually though (Path of Radiance was just a priority for me).

But anyway! I think this would be a good starting game to get into it, because I heard the last two were great, so if this isn't as good I don't have anything to compare it to. Yay trying new things!

Well currently, Xenoblade 1 is on Wii U as eshop 20 dollar title, it also got a physical restock recently at gamestop (well I saw some new copies in my local area) for the Wii so you can check that out there too.  The new3DS version is also an option if you ever plan to.

If you do have a Wii U get Xenoblade X immediately.  Definite must buy and own title imo.  I've put in over 2000 hours of the game and I'm still going to this day.  I haven't even stopped yet.  The postgame content is just amazing.

However keep in mind that Xenoblade is following as two seperate series now, Takahashi the director and creator has stated that this is the kind of direction they're going for now.  Xenoblade would be your traditional JRPG adventure game with a slight medieval final fantasy like story telling focused game.  While Xenoblade X is a scifi space opera drama with open world exploration and all about allowing the player to have fun and go out on your own adventure kind of game.  Personally I prefer the later but either way both games are amazing on their own and they shouldn't be compared to one and another.

Having "finished*" Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X, I am cautiously optimistic for XC2. I know the environments and music are in excellent hands, but the playable characters thus far do not really resonate with me. I am also not completely sold on the updated combat system with the Blades and the switching. When I play the game itself, I may change my mind, but right now I prefer the traditional method. (I absolutely loved XCX's combat system, even though I mained swords and rarely used my rifle.)

    * XC: At final boss, want to finish up the sidequests first. I hear this trivializes the final fight, but I rather "complete" the game in one go instead of doing another playthrough.
XCX: Finished main story, got my Ares 90, and have maybe 1-3 major sidequests left. I also need to get around to finishing up all the affinity missions, don't think I 100% that yet...

Yeah the two main characters' designs is not giving me a good first impression.  I mean yeah Xenosaga's Kosmos had a similiar thing going but the rest of the cast was quite tamed saved for some of the armors.  I quite loved the previous casts designs in previous Xeno games so to see the designs going into these weird skin fanservice showing again is kind of bleh to me.  The designs I've been enjoying the most are definitely the blade characters.  A lot of them are so good and yet the contrast between them and the two main characters is making it hard for me to swallow.

  16. I'm probably the only guy who legitimately played and 100% Xenoblade X in this entire thread.  I did finish the original Xenoblade.  It was good but I did feel people overpraised it but I did enjoy the combat a lot.  Xenoblade X surpassed the gameplay department in all levels and since Xenoblade 2 is taking advantage of the engine that made Xenoblade X's 5 year development, I hope this means more faster Xenoblade and Xenoblade X games in the future.

As for 2, I'm looking forward to the environments that we can explore and the some of the towns that are going to be available and I really hope they take note of the sidequests from Xenoblade X and amp them up in this game.

Yeah, it would basically just be Valkyria Chronicles with a Fire Emblem coat of paint, which I would think would give us a refreshing take on the series for a game. I forgot to mention character arcs but yeah those could flesh out the story and world a lot.

That is true in a way, it did have Fire Emblem characters in it but wasn't exactly the main point of the game. Plus it had the lion from Wizard of Oz, so I'm 99% certain it was just a fun, random game made to try something different, the problem was how random it was that fans never got hooked on it I'll admit I even tried it before with the demo and I was very dissapointed with it, I feel like if it had been done better it would be a lot better game and then be more popular (this was before I got into Valkyria, so if anything my views of this take on srpg's was low and the fact Valkyria made it so I love this type says something)

The thing is, a lot of the mechanics you mentioned were all in Code Name Steam.  Terrain, positioning, defense mechanism with hitting an enemy while they're moving, long range, low range attacks and different classes, specialization, variety of map objectives and mechanics were all in the game.  Hell they even have a dancer style character where you can completely recover a user's action gauge to make them move again even though they used up all their resources.  So really your gameplay proposal is not much different from that game.  Even Mario + Rabbids is influenced by this mechanic.

I think the reason why you didn't enjoy CNS is that it doesn't use the stat mechanics, level ups and rpg gameplay progression system and cosmetics.  Since CNS uses a fixed style system.  The demo imo in CNS is quite awful in general and this is someone who loves this game to death.  The best mechanics of CNS are in much later levels.
