    Okay, so the daily updates I'd promised didn't materialize. Sorry everybody, I figure I owe an explanation. I'll keep it short, since some rather personal circumstances have come up. My mother's just found out she's being divorced by her 2nd husband, and that drama's been unfolding for the past few days. I hoped it wouldn't get in the way of my obligations to you all. I'm gonna be working on putting out a New Years update for the next open beta phase, with Matchmaker fully enabled. Going to be moving out of my current house and will be without internet for the foreseeable future, just so everyone's clear on why I vanish. I can still phone in, but my presence will be severely limited going forward. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to keep my promises on this release; one thing after another, eh? Alas, that's life sometimes. I very much appreciate your understanding and continued support/anticipation for my work to be completed. It means a lot, and know that I'll continue working - even if I can't be as engaged with you all as I'd like.

    There are four status effects, two of which disables a unit's ability to move at all. A self-targeting restore is essentially useless to half of the game's statuses, and if I wanted an item that was only useful on poisoned units, I'd give them an Antitoxin (since not a lot of Silencing going on, especially in the Sacaean tales). If it could be made to do something like a 0-1 range (on self or adjacent unit), that'd be neat. But otherwise this is actually the better setup.

    I can tell you exactly what's going wrong: at the beginning of Lyn's Tale I trigger event ID 0x9C (which was actually not supposed to be there, it was for testing purposes explicitly pertaining to this glitch), which the game links to a tutorial prompt for trading items in Lyn's Mode. The new save files start in "Hard Mode" by default, at least what the vanilla game recognizes as HM, which ignores all of those tutorial-event ID ties.

    I think your inner-patriarchy is showing. DLuna is right, it's a knight's title. And yeah, Nino's mother is Canas's relative by marriage or something. As far as I'm aware Meredith has no blood relations to any previous canonical characters.

    Thanks for the report, Bleachya! I'll be taking a look at Raven's pt. 2 shortly. After I finish adding this guy's pairing to pt. 1. Felt compelled to add just one more: Sain x Priscilla. DLuna, just to clarify my approach to ellipses has been: if the ellipse would end a sentence, there's a space and a capitalization to begin the next sentence. Sometimes they're used mid-sentence, in which case it just keeps running normally. I think IS did something similar, but I'm probably incorrect and inconsistent (yup, I even see an inconsistency in one of your screencaps). Thanks again for your help! I'll go fix all those typos and that palette.

    We're having some technical difficulties with the last bit of polish for publicly rolling out Matchmaker for the beta (the ASM that elevates support levels on command), so we'll have to see whether or not tonight's update patch gets pushed back 'til tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience, I know there are a few crippling bugs and people have been clamoring for a fix. Hoplon Guard grants a passive +2 Def/Res. No crit negation.

    Thief Glove (just so people know I guess) grants the "Steal" command to whoever holds it. And I haven't really played FFTA so yeah, I probably got the name from here. Yeah, that one sounds like a cool addition. I've got Merc working on a revamped Louise, so we'll see.

    Any ideas on two other characters who would most deserve a revamp? Everett got buff of: +5HP, +3Str, +1Spd, +1Con. A list would be fantastic! Also, Legault's gettin' swaggy. Doing some work on his tale today. Any additional comments on that one specifically?

    This is what you'll be able to start playing with in today's update (I didn't make one yesterday because, hey, after spending three days zapping bugs I needed a night off). Since people are already cheesing matchmaker with old save files, I figured I gotta put out something concrete for testing. Just to clarify that this inadvertently became an open beta release, but I very much appreciate the understanding you've all shown. Your constructive feedback is highly appreciated, even at such a late stage in development. Louise was changed to Sagittary (which I still insist is a better name than Longbowman, BwdYeti) because it's her promoted class in FE7x. I'd definitely consider having a revamped portrait done for her to coincide with the class change. I'll go talk to some of my commish spriters about it. Usually I buy a "set" of three mugshots, so I guess I'll elicit feedback on which other characters could stand to get an overhaul (excluding characters who've already gotten one, of course). EDIT: Also Everett will be buffed.

    Yeah, I had to shuffle around the "permanent event IDs" that get remembered by the game across multiple chapters in order to fit everything, depending on which achievements you've unlocked in the old ROM, you'll probably find a few matchmaker alterations.

    Thanks for the constructive feedback! It's a bit of a cop-out, but I can just make the Ballisticians not give any EXP gain. I'm considering adding a way to kill Barbaros, though, since with the Juna Fruit added he'll be able to gain a few more levels if obtained. I'd probably add that to the Demonic Streak achievement, meaning it would be kill Barbaros and Kaherdin. Glad to hear people are enjoying themselves!

    Not sure why the poleax isn't retaliating for you, I just checked and it seems functional on my end? Poleaxes aren't assigned a weapon type because they're weapon triangle neutral. Cleave Bow isn't effective against riders. Fix'd the descrip. Yes. They're there for a substitute character.

    Okay, so now that I've gotten some sleep I can make more words happen. I know that it isn't quite what I'd wanted to release last night either, but I greatly appreciate the "early adopters" helping finish up the last of the beta testing process. Keep the bug reports coming! I'm also particularly interested in any lingering balance issues, so feel free to share your opinions on potential gameplay revisions. Since Serenes won't actually let me have a list without fucking it up in the edit, you can keep track of known issues and their resolutions on FEU. Whatever, we have better lists anyways... And as for the release plans, since Christmas Day didn't go exactly as planned, I figured...hey, why not make it five days of Christmas? So here's the deal: there will be a daily update until 2015, and matchmaker pairings will be unlocked over the span of five days as they're completed. 12/26: Fiora and Farina. 12/27: Nino and Serra. 12/28: Rebecca and Isadora. 12/29: Priscilla and Lyn. 12/30: Vaida. 12/31: Igrene's Tale and Hard Mode. I may or may not have conceptualized the first part while trying LSD. This is neither a confirmation nor a denial. I can't really recall, but it sounds plausible.

    Okay, so I'm going to make a patch available in two hours. A few things: Igrene's Tale is inaccessible because, well, it isn't ready yet. Matchmaker is temporarily disabled, and will be patched in within the next few days. Likely there are still persisting minor bugs, which will be eliminated as they are made known. My apologies to the people who've waited patiently, the alpha testing stage turned out to be far more intensive than anticipated. We had some major glitches to grapple with; "the curse" is absolutely real, I'm simply not allowed to actually meet my release goals. We've charted into the uncharted territory of "bugs that we didn't even know could exist." Again, CT075, Crazycolorz5, venno, tempmael, zahlman, Dancer_A: you da real MVPs. Round of applause for these awesome motherfuckers. The event alterations for matchmaker still aren't 100%, and I'd rather not release an incomplete feature. It's at about 85%, and I'll be aiming to make that available before New Years.

    Christmas Day update: It's 10:30ish in my timezone (PST ftw), so I've technically still got all day to finish things up. Slept roughly four hours, and I've had some amazing homies up through most of the night with me debugging and tying up all of the loose ends. Once this thing drops, y'all should give an especially huge "thank you" to my fellow Team UNDERTROLLers (the "cool kids," as some may call us): CT075, Crazycolorz5, Vennobenno, and Tempmael. It wouldn't have been possible to make the deadline period without their crucial assistance. LuminescentBlade also took time last night to give her mugs one last round of quality control, so a hearty thanks to her as well is definitely in order! They're all regulars on Fire Emblem Universe (shameless plug), Crazycolorz got warned for his first and only post in this topic (something to do with being off-topic - as if anybody's ever "on topic" in here) and refuses to acknowledge the warn. So he's FEU-exclusive now .
