  1. On the topic of permadeath, I'm disappointed it's not in heroes, but it makes sense in the context of the model. My preference would have been similar to Mario Run's pay up front model with optional permadeath, but it is a stark contrast to what the shareholders want. I really dont like freemium titles. Whatever, so long as they never fully remove permadeath in the mainline titles, I'm good. Yeah, saw the video. Noticed it too. Really cool idea. Really want to see the isles of Talys, FE7 Endgame, Battle Before Dawn, Arcadia and more.
  2. It's officially Valentia but Valencia will probably still be used in fan circles, similar to Akaneia vs Archanea.
  3. They posted Box Art on Twitter, I would assume there is a physical release.
  4. http://site.wepage.com/vestariasaga Release Confirmed for September 21st
  5. I feel I'd have to go with Awakening and Fates Conquest. I feel that Awakening is overrated by some fans and feel that "saving the series" doesn't fully circumvent some of the games flaws. The new mechanics aren't the most balanced and many old mechanics are MIA. The objective diversity is limited to Rout and Kill Commander, and the story has some flaws. It's alright overall, but I feel there are better alternatives series wode. Fates Conquest often gets the most praise out of the Fates games, and with good reason. However, I think some aspects of Conquest are overrated. For example, I don't feel the changes to Pair-Up are substantial enough, as Dual Guard is almost always the optimal choice. I believe slice of life aspects such as My Castle and mechanics such as the Children system cause great dissonance with the tone of the game. Grinding/Fund Limitations promised in the campaign seem more in relation to Birthright/Revelation than meaningful on a series wide basis, especially since the new weapon system values statistical management over fund management. Objective diversity is solid, but Seize is far less demanding of players as it's no longer limited to the Lord. Wifi elements bring on some balance issues as a whole. Finally, I feel there are some true clunkers of maps, and a bit too many gimmicks at times. I admire Conquest for its scope and scale (Similar to Radiant Dawn), but I feel the execution was really hit or miss. The story is another matter I'd rather not get into.
  6. Greetings! I'm currently in the midst of designing a subreddit for this game, and am looking for the various single covers (such as Kiria's Reincarnation) for a randomized sidebar. However, I have been unable to find them. Any chance someone here may have a gallery? Thanks in advance.
  7. I've always felt it worked to balance the three magic types and encourage/discourage Mage/Mage combat. All a manner of personal preference though.
  8. Most of the time the term is used in a joking sense, which is fine. However, I disagree when people call Genealogy a waifu game or say that FE has always been about waifus.
  9. PROS: - Statistical complexity is reinstated to a system barren from it since FE11. - The new weapon triangle adds to the experience and makes up for complexity lost when FE11 removed the Trinity of Magic. - Throwables are nerfed, and long range weaponry are often unable to attack up close leading to a player phase vs enemy phase debate. CONS: - Statistical complexity is used in place of fund management complexity, not in unison leading to fund management being watered down substantially from older installments. Even the path that used limited funds as a selling point suffering from an abundance. This is namely due to the lack of weapon durability. - Forging has been limited to a convoluted system of online/streetpassing and randomly selected gems all to focus on social elements of the game and luck of the draw. As someone who deliberately avoid online and streetpass on some of my campaigns, I found myself unable to successfully forge items I wanted because the new system is connected to extraneous content that has little to do with the main campaign. - The lack of durability mixed with the new debuffs have lead to a system where tiers are all over the place. In particular, throughout my Lunatic runs, I never touched Silver with a 10 foot pole but legendary weapons (Not S rank) and Killer Weapons which often only had durability and availability going against it, were far too good not to use as the statistical changes were marginal.
  10. Some more information has been revealed by Nintendo's UK office: Unfortunately, this seems to nulify the idea that this will be a cipher localization. Rather it seems that it will be a Strategy RPG. More interesting are the comments on acessibility. I'm not sure if they mean mechanical acessibbility or plot acessibility as the write-up on animal crossing indicated cross platform interaction whilst Fire Emblem would be sperate. Also makes me wonder if the continuity will be rebooted again. Either way, all I'm hoping is that permadeath is in this game, it's not the same without it.
  11. From my understanding, you do have to unfortunately ppay through the tutorial again to play on a higer setting, though I may be wrong.
  12. Yes, a couple times, including my first ever run (Mostly because I didn't know you could reset).
  13. Taeko Kaneda Era (FE6-10) However, since they are split, I'll go with GBA.
  14. My list of opinions: The Great/Good: - Aesthetics: Fire Emblem Fates is a great looking and sounding game. From the system boundary pushing graphics to the numerous musical tracks, it's great. Many Fire Emblem games are good in aesthetics for their respective system, Fates is no different. - Birthright's Story: Birthright's story, whilst mostly an archetypal FE story, had tight writing, good characters and many jaw dropping moments. - The new Weapon Triangle: With the trinity of magic gone, I felt too many weapons were outside a triangle, until Fates fixed this by adding more weapons into the iconic triangle, it's great! - Some Map Design: Some maps in Fates (Conquest in particular) are absolutely stellar. The Ok/Mixed: - Map Design as a whole: Whilst some maps are good, others leave something to be desired. Each path has their strengths and weaknesses in Map design. On the whole, the map design has its ups and downs. - Rebalanced Pair-Up: Good in theory, mixed in execution. More incentives to Dual Strike and/or more disincentives to Dual Guard would IMO be beneficial. - Removal of Weapon Durability: Not a bad system, but not enough that strikes me as unique. Stat debuffs aren't bad, but given that the game also has Dragon's Vein gimmicks, concealed weapons and status staves to lower stats, I feel the increase that the new system provides in statistical complexity, fails to counterract what is lost in inventory/fund management. - Characters: The cast of Fates is mostly solid, but they haven't really stood out in my mind in comparison to some other casts (Namely Rekkas, Awakenings and Sacred Stones) - My Castle: My Castle is an ok distraction in between levels, but I don't feel it is very deep by simulation game standards, and that it leads to some balance issues in the game similar to the World Map has done before. The Bad - Conquest's Story: The story for Conquest has most certainly been a point of contention with some people liking it and some not so much. Unfortunately, I fall in the latter category. I feel there was a lot of potential that was unfortunately missed in the story. - The Villains: I wish the villains had more depth than they do. IMO, the villains on their own are somewhat passable, but coming from a series where Arvis, Nergal, The Black Knight and Lyon all exist, there is a lot to be desired. - Fanservice: I don't mind Kozaki's art, I really don't, but I don't think the armor design is doing the series any favours at the moment. More subtle designs in future would be desired. - Children: They feel shoehorned in, to be honest. I understand that it was a popular mechanic, but I also feel it should either be plot relevant or not in the game. - Tonal Dissonance: I feel one of the bigger issues with Fates is the inconsistent tone. Simply put, the non-linear focused gameplay goes against some of the tonal moments (ex. Corrin is devastated by ____, whatever that may be, and then parties at My Castle, and then goes back to being devastated immediately after). These are my opinions on Fates.
  15. Translating Rescue as Shelter. It's a very minor thing, but it shows that they appreciate the mechanical differences between the Rescue command in prior installments and the rescue skill from Fates, and renamed it to accommodate.
  16. Polygon got the first one. They'll be livestreaming soon.
  17. Kaga's back with an update on the past two months of silence: http://zeeksweb.blog120.fc2.com/blog-entry-99.html
  18. Nintendo has made another statement on the matter here: http://www.siliconera.com/2016/01/21/nintendo-responds-changes-fire-emblem-fates-western-localization/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+siliconera%2FMkOc+%28Siliconera%29&utm_content=Twitter Also, Syalla/Shara has been localized as Rhajat...
  19. I have yet to play the game, but my personal recommendation is that you start on Lunatic Classic for each. The reasons why: 1. You can always turn down the difficulty to hard/normal if you find the game too challenging. However, if you find lower difficulties too easy, then you'll have to start from the beginning again to play higher difficulties. 2. You seem to have a great deal of experience with the series 3. From what I've heard (don't quote me on it), Birthright and Revelations Lunatic is about the halfway point between Awakening Hard and Lunatic.
  20. My first ever run was an ill-prepared Iron Man run. It turned me off IM runs for years. Now I play reset for the first 1-2 runs, and Iron Man afterwards. Sometimes I do a combination of the two where I won't reset for certain characters, only reset 1st/2nd half, etc.
  21. I don't think Nintendo hates Chrom and they sure don't disregard Awakening. Compared to Shiida, Alm, Celica, Sigurd, Celice/Seliph, Leif, Lilina, Roy (outside of Smash), Lyndis, Eliwood, Hector, Eirika, Ephraim, Elincia and Micaiah, Chrom gets more than his fair share of love from Nintendo.
