  1. Nowhere else for them to go, so no. (well, actually, I ~could~ change the portraits of the substitutes I used to the unused ones, but I assume, in playing this, that you'll not be using them.) You're an uncle/auntie just through being once removed from your siblings child. Age is actually irrelevant. If I were to have a child, my sister would technically be an aunt, despite the fact I'm 13 years her elder. Nevertheless, I think Aira is meant to be young anyway, it just isn't evident. Yep, its the Orange Hair thats the problem. No-one else in the game has it. Moreover, her battle palette is hard-coded to be Orange-haired as I discovered during early research (it was <headdesk> moment!). Sticking a helmet on her battle sprite is also out of the question: as you pointed out, there are no more blonde girls left to use either. Just, uh, assume Lord Rings wife had it and it skipped a generation. Or something. Its ok though, its made up for by the fact that she looks disgustingly awesome as a female paladin. Uh, yeah. I must be tired. I meant Delmud and mentioned Corple twice. My bad. Technically, the back of the project has already been broken. All the hard work is done. Its just the case of testing for stupid errors. A full FE4 playthrough, in other words. And then final tweaks as needed. But, if you'd like to test the beta rather than waiting for the goldmaster, I can instead put up a patch tommorow after work.
  2. My first playthrough is often easy mode; allows more appreciation of the plot. So yeah, 1 in 3 of my playthroughs have hence been on easy mode. I suppose that might taint my experience, but that easy playthrough was years ago, the last two have been on normal. Besides, I'm of the philosophy that victories are far more satisfying than challenges. I'll calmly admit to have never played a Hard Mode or Maniac Mode, and I played Thracia with the 'Raised Caps to 30' mod applied. I'm quite sure that, if I did play on Hard, I would indeed probably discard Rolf for being too much effort. You can still be stealthy, recruit everyone, kill the Boss, finish in 30 turns and get every bit of treasure on that level, as Mr. Cold points out. I usually let Illyana kill the boss with Oscar carrying her there. Anouleth: Goody! Another person like Sentinels!
  3. <puts hand up> I use Astrid in RD. She capped STR & SPD and was very nice with DoubleBow. Though she needed hardcore babying and killer bow bought for her in the early chapters. Agree on cute in OA, but hot in doujinshi. That is all. LOL. As for Astra, I've only rarely seen it activate, to be frank. It looks darn cool to activate, but nevertheless, it is probably lower tier than most of the ultimate skills simply because it hoovers up weapon durability. I suppose thats a non-issue once you get the invincible weapon blessing though.
  4. <shrugs> I figure one level with many kills given < many levels giving some kills in babying terms, but your mileage may vary. You don't want to give Ike the Laguzslayer since you want to prevent him getting too much XP. So theres Mia or Zihark, right? On a side note, Lol I'm sure Zihark would find having a Laguzslayer morally objectionable given his character. :D Actually, doing the stealth level successfully gives 800 BEXP or something ludicrous like that. Even if that's just eight level ups (I think its more, actually), the BEXP is controllable compared to the RNG, making it pretty valuable.
  5. Thanks for the support. Sadly, no more characters can be added to the second gen. Well, not with my meagre skill, anyway. Its theoretically possible to switch somebody. I mean, Aira could show up again if she, say, replaced Shanan. Wait...though that would bring hilarious and quite frankly bizarre late life lesbian relations into the picture. 0_o (since the support conversations can't be changed. Hence, Lackche would be hitting on her own mother!) <headdesk> ---- New changes: A few class changes have taken place. Mageknight and LordKnight now have a bigger magic cap. Pirates and Dancers got stronger. A few other tweaks too. Baldo blood now buffs STR/MAG/RES Noishe got his stats lowered slightly. He was a little bit strong. Gandolf was also given a Steel Axe so he can actually melee things now. (probably a good idea for you to melee him now he has Hero Bow, which is nasty!) Iron/Steel/Silver Axes were made better. The magic tomes were all differenciated from one another now. So Wind is lighter but weaker, Thunder Strong but innaccurate, and Fire striking a good balance but having the heaviest tomes. Adan starts with a KillBow ---- Also, don't know if you noticed, but I tried to make all destined pairings into good (or at least viable) choices for this mod, so you can pick you favourite. I define a destined pairing as one that has a lovers conversation somewhere, or a moment where a dad speaks to his children. So here's an analysis of the pairings possible in this mod: Aideen + Mideel/Jamuka/Azel/Claude/Fin Lester still needs pursuit, and preferably some decent swords/axes. Mideel gives Lester a HeroAxe as well as Pursuit/Critical. Jamuka the same, but Pursuit/Continue. Azel makes Lester into a Magic Sword using Pirate! Claude gives Lester the Mistolteen and Elite, but no Pursuit. Aira + Lex/Holyn/Adan/Fin Skasaha is versatile since he's an armour with C in everything physical, and he'll always have Pursuit/Dual. So its just the case of do you want LunaHit, Ambush or Wrath. Lachesis + Beowulf/Dew/Noishe/Fin Delmud is a mage. Beowulf doesn't give Pursuit, but gives good growths. Dew and Noishe offer Pursuit. Sylvia + Claude/Levin/Alec Corple is a Social Knight. He is guaranteed Elite and Bargain, so his late start isn't as painful as normal FE4. But dad needs to offer combative skills. Claude and Levin both offer holy weapons to him, but neither give Pursuit. Neither does Alec, actually, but he makes Leen better by giving her Prayer back. Fury + Levin/Noishe/Adan Fee can take Axes or Lances. Levin gives her the GaeBolg. Noishe gives Continue but no significant weapons. Adan makes her immune to arrow crits. Tiltyu + Azel/Claude/Lex/Levin Tinny can take Swords and Staves. Azel makes her into a Magic Swordsgirl with SunHit. Claude gives the Mistolteen, but she'll be Pursuitless. Lex gives her LunaHit. Levin x Tiltyu is probably the only awful destined combo available, as GaeBolg is lost. Briggid + Mideel/Jamuka/Alec Patty can take Swords (Axe after promo). Mideel can give some swords if promoted as well as his axes, Jamuka and Alec can always give Swords. Anything you guys think is stupid or out there? I mean, there are various LOLCRACKPAIRS, like Briggid + Claude offering both the Mistolteen and Swanchika in the same family, and silly things like that, but that aside.
  6. (facepalm) A 'big splatter' or 'giant mess' of experience was the idea for the metaphor. 'Tis just a connotation, an image to invoke. It doesn't neccesarily have to apply to male reproductive fluids, dude.
  7. Titania is needed to hold off the armours. Nobody else has much chance against them with their high DEF. (I never use Soren. He is likely Lvl2-3 at most at this point). She can also use the Hammer if feeling particularily brutal. Although some Titania use is unavoidable in this game, especially on this level, it should still be kept to an absolute minimum for XP purposes, right? If Boyd is about Lvl 7-8 with the Halberd, he can tank that entrance quite well due to his amazing HP base+ supereffective hit+ weapon triangle advantage. At least, this has always been my strategy for that level. So yeah, its for Rexflame, then? I always give it to Sanaki. But then, Cymbeline is a far better spell anyway in my opinion. (1 less MGht and loss of the marginal speed bonus for +5 Crit, +30 Uses and -8 Weight)
  8. Yep, about 80% of the kills are his, indeed. He gains a level from killing the boss too. Ah, well, I don't use Marcia except as a transport in the prison break level, so thats that explained then (I wait for Jill for flyer needs). Illyana often gains a level in the previous chapter since recruiting her early is a good idea, and is usually fed built up BEXP for me, then I actually start using her next chapter since Rolf is more urgent. Yeah, Mia can hold the Laguzslayer indeed, but having that as the only option to kill crows seems limited. Its probably better if don't explain Bukakke to you. ROFL. :P After he's caught up, its no longer babying is it? So a small amount of babying in this level and thats it. Besides, these are just my habits. No need to fly off the handle. I like FE9/10 Archers/Snipers and think Rolf is a great unit. You do not. End of story.
  9. Madness? THIS...IS...JUGDRAL!!! (sorry, you asked for that one) But yes, this is entirely serious. It is still FE4. Just different. Very different. Because FE4 only has a limited amount of animation slots, something had to go. The Master Knight eats a ridiculous number of slots, and its rather overpowered as a class, so it was the obvious choice. Shanan's face was always too bishie for my liking, LOL. Err, yeah. Thats what I meant. (oops) Whilst I'm here, heres some other changes: Alec doesn't have Noba blood anymore. That was in the Alpha. He had a stat increase too, since he was really REALLY crap. Adan is now a Hunter > Warrior. Poor guy, he lost Pursuit again! Jamuka is now Pirate > Forrest And some new caps:
  10. My last playthough was this: Vague Katti: Mia Alondite: Eddie Wishblade: Aran Urvan: Jill Double Bow: Astrid Rexflame: Sanaki Rexbolt: Illyana Rexaura: Micaiah Baselard: Sothe +Elincia with Amiti +Gatrie with the BraveLance +Nolan with his unique axe +Caineighis +Usual suspects Don't think I forgot anyone.
  11. Lol, you used Demon Cards with Leanne? I didn't realise you could. Actually not a bad idea given her MAG, I guess. I'd have never thought of that.
  12. Indeed, she's actually a pretty likable character because she's a relatively flawed heroine. Unlike, say, Lyn. Well, assuming you ignore her Shotacon tendancies with Sothe.
  13. Going by her supports, Mia also sees Rhys as her rival, so obviously she's onto something. She's even seen his Valkyre Staff (he stole it from Claude/beat up Corple). In before 'so that's how priests bring people back to life!' :P Also, Ike isn't an option anyway since the devs made him homosexual (Ranulf or Soren etc.) since he has no paired endings with girls in any case. (DAMN YOU I WANT MY ELINCIA ENDING!)
  14. Hey guys, thought I'd actually post a topic on this here as well, as this patch is approaching completion. This patch is called ‘The Geneologists Nightmare’ and the main purpose of it now (as it was before) was swapping the characters bloodlines and classes around, so that the player of this version of FE4 loses the two normally broken ultimate weapons the player is given, the Holsety tome and the Balmung, but instead gets to use two of the ultimate weapons normally locked to the CPU, the Torhammer and the Swanchika. More importantly, its goal was to do so in a way that not only required a five minute hack, but in a way which completely changes the game experience. Alot of planning was required to ensure everything worked not only smoothly, but well. That is to say, as many old pairings that used to be possible or canon should still be possible and good, the levels and enemies should proceed glitch free with slightly increased difficulty, and the player should have to think about the game in a fresh light. Also, the patch is meant to try and fix a personal tick I have with the game. That being strange inheritance issues. Like Aideen having Lester with blue hair when her husband has green hair (she was cheating?!?). Or Fin saying ‘You look just like your mother‘ to Rana when Rana looks very little like her mother. Anyway, I'll present the table of what it currently changes on the first gen characters: This allows for some interesting new combos, ne? (My personal favourites would be giving Fee the Gae Bolg and Tinny the Mistolteen for the LULZ) Also, have a pretty relationship chart: Most notable changes should be evident from this and the above table already provided. (which also shows weapon modifications) EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot Johan/Johalva. They are Freeknight>MgKnight and WindMage>Sage respectively, with Holsety blood. EDIT2: Had a hiccup with Eltshan using the face of Kurth. His mouth is not animated!! (and hence glitches) I suppose Kurth doesn't actually have any speaking parts in the game, but still, darn lazy artists! EDIT3: More fun with Eltshan. Giving him Thunderstorm glitches the game when he attacks in CHPT 1 as an ally. Weird. Nevermind, he has Aura now. (Aura is B, and HiPriest can use Light MGC at B now, don't think I mentioned that) EDIT4: Yikes, Gandolf with HeroBow is nasty! Other changes: - Most Thracians are Pegasus Riders, and Silesians Dragon Riders. Seems more sensible to me that Pegasi might prefer the steppes of southern thracia, whereas dragons would like the cold north. - The Tyfling now has Life attached to it, not Prayer, and only +5 SKL. - The Ichival has better bonuses (+10 STR, SKL, SPD), but no Prayer Life. - The Balmung now gives +10 SKL, +10 SPD, +10 MDF - The Holsety now gives +10 SKL, +10 SPD, +10 MDF - Mage and HiPriest can use Light Magic, at C/B respectively. - Movement changes. Most notably, most units (except Armours) can wade through Rivers (not Sea) for 4-5 movepoints. This actually changes alot of strategy in Prologue (you can't hide behind the bridge as easily) and in Chapter 1 latter part (where Jamukas group avoid the middle of the forest chokepoint to attack via the western river crossing). Additionally, most units have had their move increased by 1 because FE4 is really a game about high mobility with its huge levels. I was trying to make the Tyfling shoot Aura at range, but it seems that magic sword anims are hardcoded. What I may do, therefore, is switch the Light Sword and the Tyfling, and have the Light Sword have no ranged capabilities, but instead be lightweight whilst using the miscellaneous stat bonus slot (which will be +5 STR, +5 RES) Yeah, and in case you were wondering, Baldo is the Magic Swordsman, Hezul is the Black Knight (strong swordsman), and Odo the Fast Swordsman. If you'd like to see some early screencaps, check out THIS ARTICLE on my blog or THIS POST of FEU since I don't want to make this post too big. Keep in mind that, actually, a bunch of stuff has changed from the images posted on the blog (not the FEU ones) because the palettes in FE4 are stubborn. 'Alas, 'tis a shame, it would have been funny to have Sharlow replacing Mideel, but my perfectionist nature can't stand to see him have blue hair on the portrait and green in battle. It might be out before the end of the week. Probably. LOL. P.S. In case you were wondering, this is a new version of something that was something I released on FESS a long time ago. That version has since been lost in a HD wipe, and no FESS attachments exist any more so its gone forever.
  15. Its easy for Rolf to get to level 6-7 in the first level you get him, equalising his level disadvantage (the same can't be said for Mist, sadly). He also arrives just prior to a point where an archer is really needed to take out crows, (especially if, like me, you refuse to use Soren) and gets bukakke experience from that, so I don't see how that equals hard to raise. Fragile, perhaps, and certainly a small amount of babying is required, but not hard. Shinon is invincible at the start of FE9. I'll concede hes not much good after you get him back. My Rolf is nearly always at least an equaivalent sniper by that point. In his case, its more the FE10 version I was referring to.
  16. Thats because nomads/rangers outclassed them in the GBA games. Rolf and Shinon in FE9/10 (and the Ichival users in FE4) are sheer awesome, however. Those who state they fail because can't counterattack in the enemy phase aren't using them right, by and the by.
  17. That's bad? Hell no, WTA, there, screwed your reply . It is bad, yes. You have keep the twit out of combat because he'll win all the time and rob xp from others. My first playthrough of FE9 was botched and had to be restarted because he was at level 12 by the laguz fort defence level after gatrie and shinon leave. Ike had stolen all of Boyds kills and Boyd with a Halberd is practically required to hold the southern entrance on that level (Ike and Mia to the left, Titania to the right, Oscar rides around giving general support etc.) Admittedly, it was bad tactics on my part, but I'll always remember it. ------- And Calill, really? Doesn't she have low availability? Not as bad as Tormod, but she's stuck with Elincia most of the time, right? She's marginally useful for those levels, and that was it, as far as I could see. Or is purely because of Rexflames SPD boost?
  18. I'll agree: anything with Illyana and Serra. Especially Illyana chewing on Mia's Leg. And Matthew/Serra and the misplaced vassals. Not.Bloody.Likely. Or the "I knew it! My beauty should be a crime!" from Serra/Erk.
  19. You should love FE 3's armors and generals. I take it they shake teh screen even moreso, then? Sadly, I cannot bring myself to play FE3 because I'm shallow and spoilt by FE4/FE5's graphics being better. For the same reason I can't play the NES games because I keep screaming "EYECANCER!!!" and adopting the fetal position in a corner. You can tell I was brought up in the 16bit era, eh? To be honest, if FE11 was an indication of what book1 of FE3 was like, I don't really feel like I'm missing anything, anyway. I do feel a little guilty occassionally for not trying FE2, though.
  20. Most overrated: - FE9 Ike. Its not so much that he's powerful, but rather the game itself babies him to begin with (he's the only sword user in an axe heavy environment until Mia pops along) and then he gets Aether + Ragnell). It is true he can solo the game in FE10 though (don't know about Maniac, mind). - FE8 Moulder. Discussed already. Missing LCK IS a big deal and Vanessa support is daft. Most underrated: - FE10 Illyana. I will readily admit to being her squeeling fanboy, and I totally agree that the Soren loving developers totally nerfed her between this and FE9. Even so, she does not deserve the flak she recieves from guides and suchlike.
  21. Yeah, but Draconic blood does have its benefits. And how old do you think that Sophie would be by the time she meets Roy? As GDL points out, doesn't Roy have a 25% chance to be Half-Dragon himself? (I.e. Ninian is his mother) I figured they have the typical thing of maturing at human speed and then staying youthful forever.
  22. Sentinels from FE10 (my gosh they actually use spears properly, that is to say, not always jabbing with them but using sweeping motions) GBA armourknights (screen shaking for the Lulz) SNES Swordmasters (Lackche and Mareeta for the win)
  23. Because I'm greedy (in order of game features wanted from each game) FE4's pairing and inheritence system; preferably with children that actually change appearance and role (or you choose) depending on the father. Multigenerational is always a great idea for a game in my opinion. FE4's large maps. Conquering countries as a single level was awesome. FE4's ability to repair weapons. Perhaps even the ability for a character to learn some craft skills. Makes it even more RPG'ish! FE5's capture system. Being eternally poor might be artificial difficulty, but I found it quite interestingly tactical, and enjoyed the idea I could be merciful from time to time (and with a purpose, too!). I don't think it should be quite as hardcore as FE5 though (maybe a little money is available). FE5's requirement to dismount indoors. Its bloody silly to have knights riding around in castles. Though not neccessarily forcing said knights to use swords on dismount. Its one thing to not be able to use lances on foot if not trained, but I didn't see why axe knights were restricted like this. FE6's huge amount of characters. Having 2-6 options in each class and being able to choose the one you like is good for a player. FE7's (or FE2/Tear-Ring/FE10) multiple lords, with different viewpoints. This has already been done to various successes and failures, mind, and I'm not sure what the actual correct balance would be... FE8's branched promotions, but fixed so that both options are always at least viable. FE8's (or FE2/Tear-Ring) world map. Not with monsters, and with actual purpose for wandering around. FE8's was actually pretty pointless. Perhaps something like FEDA: Emblem of Justice, with enemies chasing the party. FE9's support system. It was the best incarnation yet, because there was no longer a need to have people stick to each other in battles, just have them take part together. I love character development, and this was lost in FE10 and FE11. FE10's actual battle scenes. They were easily the slickest, sexiest ones to date. Mainly because of all the little touches, like the flourish entering and winning a combat and things like that. (FE9's were a bit wooden, and the GBA was a little bit too silly) FE11's errr...well... I can't thing of anything. Class swap was dumb since Fire Emblem is not Super Robot Wars, and hence it only really stripped even more personality and individuality away. I don't really care about speed. I didn't use the stylus over the D-Pad. None of my friends have DS's so multiplayer was useless. Errm...yeah...to me it was a bit of a step backwards (figuratively, as well as literally, lol). Other ideas If you're going to use the FE10 support anyone thing, then have an 'E' and 'D' support for those generic conversations, then only certain characters with proper conversations can actually advance to C or higher, and perhaps only lovers can reach A. I've already mentioned FEDA: Emblem of Justice. The alignment system from that is nice too. If you're not aware, you go up in alignment from completing the mission objectives, but go down in alignment if you just win the map by killing everything. I like that, because excess genocide in video games is always silly. All the above said, having quality characters is better than quantity of characters. Shoot Soren in the face. (hides from fangirls) Call Cavaliers Social Knights. LOL. (see sig)
