  1. I think Byleth time traveling forward is the most likely scenario. It would explain why their appearance doesn’t change at all in 5 years (we’ve seen the hair colour change happen pre-skip). And purely from a roleplay standpoint, it means there’s nothing the player needs to be “caught up” on that they weren’t there to control themselves. So no one will be left feeling “hey, my Byleth wouldn’t have done [x] for 5 years!”

Bad news if you don’t want there to be time travel shenanigans in the plot. At least if it’s one character jumping forward only, and missing the intervening years, there’s no paradoxes created? It also could be weird if you’re roleplaying Byleth as around 19, and Lysithea and Cyril are suddenly older than you.

Do we know what Charisma does? Because up until now I thought it would be used in these situations, but if Dorothea asks for it specifically then the stat has some other use.

To my knowledge it hasn't been covered anywhere, which is weird because you'd think a new stat added to Fire Emblem would be a bigger deal.

I'm guessing it has something to do with battalions, since they're the other new combat thing. And since Dorothea asks for both Charisma and Authority. Maybe it's just a modifier for how much damage/healing gambits do, similar to Strength and physical weapons?

Uhh, if you think about it realistically, they might be 'on the battlefield', but a real assassin would probably be crouched/hiding/behind the battalion. And also, real combat isn't turn-based, so what's so odd about it??

In that case, is the player going to have trouble seeing enemy assassins on the field? If not, why would the enemy AI have that trouble? It's just a weird and lopsided mechanic.

The only other "stealthy" elements in Fire Emblem relate to evasion, terrain, and fog of war maps where you don't have full information on the enemy's positions. Come to think of it, a cool mechanic would be assassins being able to "hide" on forest tiles regardless of there being fog or not. That would actually put enemy assassins on equal footing.

  4. I didn't play much FE9-10 so Stealth Steps is a very strange concept to me. An ability that exclusively affects AI behaviour? Not that I imagine every battle as a PVP scenario, but what the heck is the in-universe explanation for that? Assassin units are right there on the battlefield! Just target them! They'll even have battalions following them around!

If it affected hit rates or had something to do with terrain bonuses or fog of war, I'd like it more.

Dark Bishop makes me more sure of Valkyrie - The balance there seems pretty clear, a specialized magic class for boys and a specialized magic class for girls. The trade being that Valkyrie provides cavalry movement while Dark Mage/Bishop has some better stat growths and earlier access. A lack of Troubador to get there feels more about the fact that Troubadors having access to a weapon would be super broken without nuking their stat bar from high orbit. The one weakness of Troubadors in past games is they die really fast to, well, everything. But having healing magics, a weapon, and possibly good stats/gear would just be horrifyingly good right?

This is a good point, although for all we know the attack stat of magic-enabled classes is nuked from high orbit in this game anyway.

The other things that would make it OP is white magic users having access to black magic, and mounted units having kanto. Put those together and a troubadour could basically be a kantoing valkyrie and bow knight combined.

So if you can change Byleths outfit for a DLC one, does that mean you can give them a class outfit to wear while in academy?

    I.e use Mercenary costumes instead.

Because if you can't, thats pretty weird.

I guess it would also be weird if Byleth could teach in full Grappler costume.

Meanwhile, I'm sure all the DLC will be totally school appropriate. 😛

    Mercedes talents:

    • Strength: Reason, Faith
    • Weakness: Sword, Lance, Bow
    • Hidden Talent: Bow

Correction her 3rd weakness is in axes, not bows. Which is useful because it will make unlocking her hidden talent less difficult.

I like how her character concept is basically just "I hate all melee weapons." Except gauntlets, apparently. Mercedes is ready to throw hands

My money's on a Torna style prequel with Nemesis; Seiros; the 10 Greats and the Saints or a better future past with the unit's kids(just to give the fans of kid units something without necessarily building it into the game).

A prequel with all the teacher characters would be fun. Like instead of a timeskip forward you could see Hanneman, Manuela, Gilbert etc in their school years.

  9. I think they'll be useful for grinding away at hidden talents. For example, you could potentially have Hubert reach three stars in lances without ever having to class him out of a magic-using class.

Or going the other way, I've been trying to think of how a Reason focused Felix would look. Luckily you could still equip him with swords/gauntlets while grinding him in a mage class, to compensate if his magic growth isn't so hot. It's just a shame that mages seem to have lower movement.

  10. I can't really blame the exasperated on Twitter when their usual exposure to the series (besides Smash) is NoA's promotion of every Heroes event. Like this one got shared by some of my friends just for how on-its-face ridiculous it is:

    Spoiler

When the most front-facing marketing of a Nintendo franchise for 11 months out of the year is impossible anime boobs, that's the impression of Fire Emblem the general fan will come away with. I saw one reply to the latest tweet that was just like "it's going to be a horny three weeks". Which is a shame because the designs for Three Houses are actually more grounded.

Part of me is hoping they patch in dog and cat petting later down the line. Or maybe it's in the game, but not the builds they were showing.

    I can't believe they've got fishing and tea parties but no stroking animals ^^;;;

Hopefully the amount of times it was asked about at E3 alone sent a clear message about the audience’s expectations vis a vis animal petting.

Breath of the Wild had it, and it was developed on Wii U. It should be a standard for every big Nintendo published game this gen.

  12. I don't get it, he's being associated with the Flame Emperor why, because they both wear masks? Why would a character have a mask for their alter ego and then a mask for their regular appearance? I think IS are just doubling down on mystery elements for the school setting (people being spirited away, etc), and masked characters are easy intrigue.

I get more Conrad vibes from him. The resemblance to Mercedes and her having defected from the Adrestian Empire is an interesting thread.

Besides I want Alois to be the Flame Emperor
