  1. I feel like that dog sitting in the fire, except everything is not fine, it simply hasn't effected me much personally.

I mean sure, cosplay events, larps and D&D campaigns all fell through, and while I enjoy all of these a lot, as an introvert, having some more me-time isn't all that bad.

I also lost my grandmother this year, but since both her mental and physical health had been deteriorating for a while I'm just glad she no longer has to suffer. She died right before Covid hit, so I'm glad she didn't have to go through that.

With everything else canceled, I should have spent more time on working on my boardgames, cosplays and homework, but I really didn't do anything this year worth mentioning. So I guess those 3 are now my goals for 2021, finish the prototype for my horror boardgame, make and hopefully wear a Ferdinand cosplay at a con, and finally finish school.

  2. This thread is a goldmine of ideas for my own game. I've been really addicted to Divinity 2 lately, so I'm ashamed I had not thought of using cooldown for spells myself. Using HP cost for dark magic only sounds very thematic and worth it.

I actually like the way weight on spells is negated by strength, it makes strength a useful stat for mages, it just doesn't seem to make sense if it's not an actual tome. So I was thinking maybe tomes should have effects they add on learned spells? I've been thinking they should make most skills have a magic prerequisite to make magic useful for non-mages.

  3. I was just wondering about something.

I hear Trump might run for president again in 2024, if I heard right the republicans get to pick who will represent their party. Who actually gets to make this choice? And if he's not chosen to run by the republicans, can he still run as independent? Would he do so and would he stand any chance?

Just wondering about things here, would be interesting if that would actually get the USA out of this 2 party system. Trump would actually do something good with his life, even if unintentional... (or Don jr if Trump goes to prison.)

  4. On magic types, not sure if this helps, but this is how I solved it for my FE DnD system:

I went back to Echoes and made my magic cost hp to cast.

    - Light magic, which includes staves, has barely any might, but lots of hit. It is effective vs monsters. Having a rank in light magic also lowers casting cost of all non-dark spells.
    - Wind magic is low might, high hit, effective vs flying, and gains an ability to move enemies after attacking them.
    - Fire magic is balanced in might and hit, effective vs beasts (including horses), and gains an ability to set an enemy on fire, dealing damage each turn like poison.
    - Thunder magic is high might low hit, effective vs armors and dragons (including wyverns), and gains the ability to deal some damage to other adjacent enemies.
    - Dark magic deals massive damage, but has a very small hit rate. It also has a bunch of special tomes like Nosferatu and Luna. Dark magic also costs more HP to cast.

As for magic classes I only needed 3:
    - Cleric for light magic, they have a lot of luck, but also high magic and speed.
    - Mage for wind/fire/thunder, they have a lot of resistance, but also high magic and skill.
    - Sorcerer for dark magic, they have a lot of HP, but also high magic and defense.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, I feel this works for me, it might work for you.

  5. Personally, I hate the idea. I haven't been a fan of Pokémon for a while now, and the idea of a full crossover just sounds cringy to me, like SMT and to a lesser extent Warriors.

Now if they were to make a Pokémon game with Fire Emblem style gameplay, that's something I'd play. Maybe even a Fire Emblem game with Pokémon style gameplay, though that sounds tougher to realize without cringe.

  6. Probably if I read it 2 or 3 times, it might start to make sense, but after 1 read I'm not following at all.

This reminds me of how I handled weapon triangles in my first version of my FE DnD system. I made everything a triangle, classic weapon triangle, standard magic triangle, anima triangle, bows>daggers>staves, and magic>classic>sidearms. My players were just very confused and never looked at it.

Now I simply have the classic and magic triangles, to differentiate the weapon types I gave daggers the shade and steal abilities, bows get 2-3 range but always have disadvantage at 1 range, and anima spell types each have their own effectiveness. I dare to say my players are happier now.

If you want to incentivise the players to play more offensively, why not take a page from Advanced Wars' book? Have a unit's stats decrease as they lose health. Except maybe give bosses a 'last stand' ability or something, highering stats while under 20% hp instead, or something like that.

  7. In my FE based DnD I had a refresher that was basically a motivational speaker. I really liked that idea for refresher units. But I don't think you're actually looking for types of refreshers.

I'm all for a support main, really hope they give Roy more of a supporter role in terms of gameplay for the FE6 remake.

I do feel having a refresher at lvl 1 might be a bit much though. If your method of hacking allows it, what do you think of the following idea:
    - At lvl 1, the main character can rally an ally, giving them a small boost in combat stats (maybe +1 dmg/dmg reduction/hit/avoid)
    - At lvl 10 their rally is improved by refreshing the ally as well
    - At lvl 5, 15, 25 and 35 the boost becomes bigger
    - At lvl 20 the rally also recovers HP for the rallied ally (maybe equal to user's magic?)
    - At lvl 30 the rally also grants +1 movement and canto to both this and the rallied unit
    - At lvl 40 the rally is used for all adjacent allies. (Think RD's Rafiel)

My preference also goes to gaining experience based on the level of who you dance for. The Jeigan problem can be solved by not having a Jeigan (my preference) or by setting its level to 1 for this exp calculation.

Also, just make the rapier a normal sword, like a weaker, lighter version of the armorslayer that also deals effective damage to horses, never seen a real need for that to be prf except for slightly buffing your main. (Also another effective sword kind of cancels out the negatives of no early game range options for swords, imo.)

I’m just starting out, and I have the quest on 5/11 to find a choir signup sheet for the choirmaster.

unable to find the item on my own, I watched gameplay videos on YouTube, so I know exactly where it is supposed to be: near Dorothea at the edge of some stairs by the bushes in the dormitory area.

    it isn’t there

I’m not missing it — I’ve seen the exact spot in videos, and in my game that spot is empty.

This is obviously a minor quest, but without it I can’t unlock the choir activity.

does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve already restarted the whole day once.

There should be a light blinking on the map right after accepting the quest, can you open the map and see the blinking light? If not are you sure you accepted the quest?

  9. I voted 7 for worst.

I played all 3 at least 50 times I believe. 6 is really annoying the first time but once you know the annoying reinforcements and the gaiden requirements it starts to get more fun. 8 is a bit bland to me story-wise, and far too short, but the gameplay is spiced up with skills and branched promotions which I enjoy. (Also it has Lute.) 7 is really fun the first time, but the fact that I always use small teams really hurts. Having the same 3 units every playthrough and 2 of them aren't that good, really hurt the replay value in my eyes.

  10. I started out watching FMA:2003, and loved it, so I continued watching Brotherhood and loved it even more. I've rewatched Brotherhood a lot, since I love rewatching shows and coming to new insights, and have since forgotten the plot of 2003. I tried rewatching 2003 last year when it was added to Netflix, but I didn't get past episode 10 because I cringed so hard.

Not saying the start of Brotherhood doesn't have its problems, but I'm just far less bothered by them.

I don't really see any problems with Ed in Brotherhood though, I really like his growth as a character.

Brotherhood is my second favorite show, right behind Avatar the Last Airbender. Still watch it at least once a year.

  11. Cipher has standard card size, which means 63x88 mm (or 2.5x3.5 inches if you're American).

If you forget, just look up the sizes for Magic the Gathering cards, it's the same size (and a lot easier to find).

  12. Guinevere not being combat trained is hardly a hard thing to believe, and Cipher and Heroes aren't sources to take as canon. Armads also isn't canon for Dieck, even though his cipher card shows him wielding it.

Even if Guinevere were added as a playable character (which tbh I wouldn't mind either way), I wouldn't imply her being the 'canon wielder' of Aureola. Having the player decide who wields it without pushing anyone either way would be best.

That does make me wonder, would it be a good thing if they went the PoR way and made staves/light magic 1 rank instead of 2? Certainly helps in the amount of possible wielders of Aureola.

but isnt that just assuming war dragon = non intelligent Fire dragon. my point is, if they introduced more variety be it war dragon or intelligent/true dragon to the remake it wont break the lore, since true dragon are not limited to fire dragon and divine with the introduction of ninian in fe7

It would break the lore, since Jahn says all the dragons got either killed or escaped through the dragons gate. He and Idunn are the only actual dragons left on this continent. Even if there were dragons that came back through the dragon's gate, they would probably not fight for Idunn/Zephiel.

Which reminds me, let's not forget Fae, so there's 3 dragons left in Elibe.

Jahn also talks about the simplicity of the war dragons, which means that if they were more varied, it would undermine his point.

Not saying this all couldn't be changed, I just hope they don't. It may not make for great gameplay but I love this story too much.

where/when did they told theres only fire dragon beside divine dragon in elibe? Ninian and her sibling are Ice dragon and the other dragon is also in another realm thru the portal. more like they didnt bother to include it back then

The dragons you fight in FE6, besides Jahn and Idunn, are all War Dragons. Vessels created for combat, not actual dragons. They're supposed to feel like they're mass produced because they are.

So is there more doors that are barely visible due to bad visual design that enemies funnel out of in particular?

Nothing I can think of, but I can think of a few other chapters where reinforcements seem to come out of nowhere, or the win conditions change, or stuff like that. Maybe you can look them up if you don't mind the spoilers.

I know many people tend to hate these things, but I actually like it. The opponent actually creating ambushes, without them for some reason yelling about it to you across the map makes it feel more real to me. Yet having rewinds fixes it in gameplay, imo.

Do I have to scan the maps?

On chapter 5 and enemies reinforcement spawned at the doors I couldn't' even see since they're cut-away to around my character's ankles, are there many more BS stuff like this? (Since you can not even a see a quarter of the door on the wall.), where there's enemy spawn doors that are barely visible due to bad prespective.

I seriously doubt Bernie is going to consistently luck out and tank 2 dudes to the face again.

This game is made with rewinds in mind, sometimes you just have to use rewinds and then use the information you rathered from your failures.

So yes, this game has many more stuff like this.

You do realize that this can really hurt a lot of things, right? Like the shipping industry, traveling, education, the cessation of federal welfare, the benefits of having federal law enforcement relieving the workload every now and then.

Actually I don't, I will admit I know very little of the subject. But I do know that open borders are a thing here in the EU. I also know trade is a big part of the EU, for example the Netherlands trades a large percentage of its food and gas with other countries. Of course the biggest difference is that the EU used to be separate countries forming closer ties, while the US would have to cut certain ties.

The goal has to be to fix the broken parts of the country. Not partition it.

I like this line, you've convinced me, partitioning is a bad idea.

I'd love to see the blue states form their own country, red states form their own country, purple states either split to either one or form their own country.  See which country turns out to be the best in 30 or so years.

Makes me wonder if the US would be better of with all states being separate countries, tied together to something similar to the European Union. Not saying the EU is a perfect system, but from my point of view it seems a lot better than the US system.

  19. I never really thought about this, but it makes sense that not low-manning this game makes bosses really hard. I normally train no more than 5 units at that point of the game, and even then these bosses are tough to take down. Not dangerous though, so long as I don't try to hurry, but I never play for ltc.

Bring plenty of vulneraries and these bosses are simply good sources of experience.

  20. Actually, I'm currently working on armor knight Byleth. I'm doing a run where everyone can only learn stuff they're bad at (Let's go priest Edelgard and archer Annette). Byleth has nothing they're bad at so I decided to go armor knight - fortress knight - great knight.

I've done way too many playthroughs already, almost each time with different classes.

War master Byleth was my strongest.
Wyvern lord Byleth was the most useful.
Mortal Savant Byleth I think was the worst.

Only classes left are Fortress Knight (current pt), Seraph Knight (coming up next), Dark Bishop and Gremory.
