  1. I'm actually not a fan of more weapon types, I like the simplicity of less weapon types (though somehow still like the idea of a magic triangle).

What I would like to see more of is shields, and maybe they can experiment with dual wielding. And maybe even make armor and mounts equipables, but that might go a bit too far for a Fire Emblem game.

  2. Due to the loss of attack speed and, often even more important, avoid while using steel weapons, I personally believe iron to be far superior. Not to say steel doesn't have its use, but only until silver comes along. By the time silver weapons become a thing, iron will remain the main weapon, and dump the steel and make silver your secondary weapon.

The real question is, silver or iron? Silver weapons break way too fast, especially if you keep your team small. I still use iron as a main weapon well into the end game.

America is in a unique position to lead a global coordinated response to COVID

While I still really think you're overestimating America's importance, I do agree with just about every other thing you're saying. So let's leave it at that and agree to disagree on that one point.

Because the world is following our bad example. If Trump was not a complete dipshit, leaders through out the world would crack down on COVID more to contain it. There would be a better unified global response. Remember the swine flu and ebola during the Obama years? Not really? Good, because Obama did not drop the ball as hard as Trump did. Obama did make some mistakes, but he quickly corrected it and did not dig himself a deeper hole. I am not sure what the hell Trump is thinking, but he is just an absolute fucking dumbass to make masks a political statement.

And the world still turns to America looking for guidance when major global crisis hits. Ukraine and COVID are just the latest examples.

I'm pretty sure our politicians here in the Netherlands were making terrible decisions on covid before America was. Did the world turn to America for guidance on Covid? I'm guessing Europe wasn't informed on that. A lot of countries worked on studies into the virus, and multiple countries developed vaccines, among which the Netherlands.

I'm sure America is a big player on global affairs, but to say it leads the world is taking it a step too far IMO.

Actually, now that I think about this some more, what exactly do you mean by "the world"? I haven't looked too much into world politics, but I have trouble seeing Asia and Africa "looking at America for guidance". Nor can I see South America, though my knowledge on that part of the world I admit is very limited.

Like it or fucking not, America leads the world, and the shit example he sets have a huge influence on other countries.

What makes you think "America leads the world"? As I see it, America is setting a pretty bad example.

Remember back in 2020 when schools were about to start during the height of the COVID pandemic and certain people on the TV were saying things like, "it's okay for kids to get COVID, it doesn't affect them as badly"? Even if that were true (which it clearly isn't), school doesn't exist in a void.

I'm pretty sure it was proven that children get symptoms far less worse than older people from getting Covid, generally speaking. That's not to say that some kids can't get it bad, and the rest of your point is still very valid.

  6. I would find it really interesting if they did the exact same things as they did for Three Houses;

    Part 1: new outfits
Part 2: Additional auxiliary battles, for earning more gold and resources. Was this the one Anna got added in as well? Except also add Alois and the others, I got so excited seeing Alois early on and just learned he's not actually playable.
Part 3: More outfits, and let's interpret additional quests as more regions on the map.
Part 4: New path that's not actually a path, but actually a side story with the Ashen Wolves.

And just throwing this out there, wouldn't it be fun if they gave us a DLC pack with Randall, Emma, Yuzu and Shade?

  7. There are 2 comedy shows I still watch that are on TV. Usually I'll just stream them online afterwards, but sometimes I watch regularly together with my parents.

The fact that I can also just watch them online whenever I feel like it, really makes me feel that old style TV "watch it at a specific time" has really run its course, and is only still here because technology can be tough for some people. It means it has its niche, I guess.

then that means everything you watch is something you chose to watch.

You watched things you didn't choose to watch? Even when channel surfing I'd turn the TV off if I found nothing I chose to watch...
(I mean not counting when someone else has the remote, then yeah, sometimes you'd watch stuff you didn't choose to.)

  8. In my own tabletop system, which doesn't have durability on weapons, I made the effective weapons slightly worse versions of their same-rank standard weapons.

For example an iron sword has 6 hit and 4 might, a rapier has 4 hit and 2 might. since might gets tripled against beasts and armor for the rapier, it has 6 might versus those affinities. (And there are ways to improve might on weapons, which will then also get tripled.)

I have to say the damage gets a bit out of hand this way, but the affinities are generally powerful enough to make that okay. (Mounted gives movement+2 on a base 3 movement, heavy armor earlygame gives about a +6 to protection on a base 2 defense. Don't even get me started on the powerhouses that are Laguz.)

Not saying it's completely balanced yet, but it works fairly well this way. Having only 3 slots for weapons to bring also really makes players think about what effective weaponry they want to carry.

They could also choose to base it off an actual good tabletop system instead.

I've actually been lackadaisically working on something like that, we should compare notes.

Is that shade towards D&D I see there? It's hard to say because I've never seen shade towards D&D before... I'd ask you to explain that shade but that might derail the thread.

I'm all for comparing notes though, send me a pm if you want.

@whase [...]Interesting ideas; I will just point out that you're supposed to include the reason why you think the spinoff will never happen.

The reason Nintendo will probably never make a FE-D&D is because tabletop isn't really their bussiness. It also wouldn't make them much money, and it would never have a large fanbase, I'm guessing.

  10. When I saw the title of this thread pop up I thought, how silly, asking such a question on a Fire Emblem forum. FE would obviously win. But then I saw the list and was reminded of series like Zelda and Pokémon, yeah, that's a tough one.

I voted Fire Emblem though. No matter how amazing LoZ is, FE has a strong hold on my heartstrings.

  11. I have played every FE game since 6, except Birthright and that pop song spinoff.

When it comes to Fates, I can respect that game for the gameplay, both Conquest and Revelations. But when it comes to story or characters, there's nothing for me there. So I decided not to even play Birthright. I like Conquest enough to have played it multiple times, so I decided to give Fates a pass and actually sort of like it.

That pop song game I refuse to call an FE game, it sounds like horror to me, and not the good kind.

Heroes is a game I really liked in the beginning, but the dislike has grown and now I hate it. I hate that the units that I poured all my love and effort into are just not viable anymore. I maxed out Lute and decided that meant I finished the game. Never returned and never missed it. (Especially not missing those horrible alts.)

Warriors was okay for what it was, but is it truly a FE game? It's just a fighting game with FE characters, it's no more a FE game than Smash Brothers is.

As for all the other mainline games, I either love them to death (3H, PoR, BB), really like them (SS, RD, SoV), or like them enough to replay every now and then (BS, NM, A, SD, F).

As all separate ranks? No, magic types have traditionally not been deep enough to warrant separate ranks. I wouldn't go further than GBA splitting, and even then I think there's an argument to group light and dark together under one "spirit magic" category. 3H's reason/faith split is also fine if you like staffs being grouped with something offensive.

Fleshing out the individual elements I'd be down for, but I'm not a fan of blanket effective damage.

On the spirit magic thing, that term would not really cover it. From the lore of multiple (not all) titles, it's anima that is the spirit magic (nature spirits). Light magic comes from faith, or the gods. Dark magic comes from science.

  13. I really like the magic traingle, so yes please bring it back.

In my own FE D&D system I made the types of magic distinct by giving them certain abilities. Light magic debuffs the opponent's hit and avoid (blind special condition) and gives access to staves. Dark magic grants activated skills like sol and Luna (Nosferatu and Luna tomes). Anima magic has minor effectiveness (MTx2 instead of x3) against affinities; Wind is strong against fliers, fire is strong against beasts (incl horses and pegasi, excl wyverns), and thunder is strong against wyverns, dragons and heavy armor. And then there is the triangle, giving advantage to your rolls, giving dark magic actually a good chance to hit anima users.

That said, I didn't hate the way magic worked in 3H either. But I did miss the triangles.

  14. I'm a little sad that Nemesis was never a bigger player in the story. Actualy getting to relive that part of history with the Golden Deer is what makes that my favorite path. It leads to one of my favorite lines in FE to date;

    Quote

"Yet we have the strength to scale the walls between us, to reach out our hands in friendship so we can open our true hearts to one another."

It's cheesy, but I love it.

Advance Wars: Re-Boot Camp is one. I was initially fairly hyped about the remake as I've never played them, but with each delay and my increasingly large backlog, I really don't have the time or interest for another game.

And honestly, the same is kinda true for Triangle Strategy. The demo was fun, but $60 for another RPG when I have several that I need to finish is just more than I can justify right now.

I opened this thread to say the exact same thing.

I may still get both of these games in the nearby future, we'll see, just not now.

    Does movement matter in D&D?

In actual D&D? A little bit. In my completely self written system based upon a mixture of D&D and FE? Yes, a lot.

In D&D most characters have a movement of 30 ft, which means as much as 6 squares. In my system I gave most units 3 movement, with mounts granting a +2, which is actually quite substantial.

Effective damage won't one-shot cavaliers, but it keeps you from sprinting ahead and getting ahead of everyone else. Ledges are great and all, but that won't stop fliers. Make your terrain benefits too high and everybody simply sprints for the bushes like in Echoes. Using multiple tools for balancing is better imo.

  17. I feel like most FE games solve the superior movement of cavalier/fliers by giving them slightly lower stats, which sort of is a solution. But, for my self written FE D&D system, I decided on solving it using effective damage. It's been quite a journey and it's still not completely well balanced, but I did notice this way effective damage obviously becomes very important for both players and enemies.

I do find effective damage a more interesting way of handling this that lowered stats though, harder to balance, but it feels more rewarding. So yes, enemy effective weaponry should be more common. (So long as it's not an instant-kill weapon, that's a bit much imo.)

I think the game does a decent enough job explaining why that never happens given Pelleas's appreciation of Izuka for rising him out of the dirt. And I think it'd be outright out of character for Micaiah or Sothe to just straight up murder one of their allies. Pelleas might be a bit of a pushover, but he's still their king, the one they're fighting for. Killing someone under his protection just would not fly. Micaiah has a hard enough time not accidentally usurping him as is, imagine how Daein would react if they found out she was actively murdering the king's friends based on her own personal judgements.

Yeah, no, murder is a nono. But relieving him of his duties I could see happen once Micaiah tells Pelleas of her powers. At least she should know Izuka was manipulating him, as long as Pelleas still worships Izuka.

At least in my eyes it would be best if Micaiah was able to convince Pelleas around 1x08, having Pelleas make that final decision. Then in part 3 we'd learn that Izuka had Pelleas sign the blood contract way before Micaiah and Pelleas even met.

  19. As mentioned by others before, I also don't believe the blood pact needs to be scrapped. I would've personally liked some more clear references to it before the reveal, like a more clear presence of the plagues preceding Asnard's and Neasala's reigns. But the blood pact itself wasn't too bad imo. Even Micaiah following Pelleas would be understandable knowing she can read his heart.

Though GonzoMD1993 above makes a good point when it comes to Izuka, haven't really thought of that before. With Micaiah's abilities, and the moment he used his feral poison on Maurim, he should have been expelled by everyone. Of course this doesn't have to ruin the blood pact, as it could've easily been written that Izuka tricked Pelleas into signing it before he'd get chased off.
