That is definitely true. I for the most part have set my expectatoins low. To be honest, if the game came out as is, with the cast they have already announced so far, I would still be happy. The gameplay alone looks like it will be a blast, even if I was just playing generic units from FE I would be content with what I purchased.

I dont think the voice acting is all that bad either. I am mostly reserving judgement for the actual game though. Between the Corrin Smash trailer and the segments of Fates we got before release, everyone thought the voice acting was terrible, and then when the game released people mellowed out a bit and realized it really wasnt that bad. I wont be surprised for that to be the same situation here, trailers and small clips like this tend to not do the voice acting justice.

I think with a little more prodding and information, I'd be fairly satisfied to get the game. the voice acting is... it's not bad, but it's not really something that should be used a selling point IMO. I'd like if we could get things more flavored towards Echoes side, because that had a very solid cast of voice actors (so much so I can't distinctly recall any 'bad' performances off the top of my head). Still, all we can do is wait and have faith.

Yeah, I think only Hinoka's voice here is plain bad to me. The others are just...different and will take some getting used to.

But my god the complaints on Twitter about a lack of non-3DS and SD characters, namely Ike. I wish they'd shut up and just accept that he'll probably just be DLC if not announced for the base game a bit later. They're acting like this game is horrible simply because Ike isn't in it and seem to be ignoring the fact that the devs already said it would focus on the 3DS games and SD.

I admit I was pretty upset at first that the main focus was Fates, Awakening, and SD, but I still ended up getting characters I like (Freddy Freddy Freddy FREDDY <3) and I'm content with Ike possibly being DLC. These people are acting way too entitled and I'm ashamed to call them Ike fans.

It's reaching that threshold of being gleefully amusing to insufferably obnoxious to me. It's like they're all stuck between the Denial and Anger stages and aren't even bothering to get to Bargaining or Sadness...

Obviously not an interview, but this was a screenshot from a Famitsu article.  You can see they only have six weapon types here, and there's nothing to indicate we can scroll further to reveal more item types.  Jedi made an article on this article as well: https://serenesforest.net/2017/08/03/famitsu-details-fe-warriors-permadeath-weapons-mechanics/#more-41180

Though the case with axe using Lissa isn't very remarkable because she actually can promote to a class that can use axes.  Not quite the same stretch.

Sakura using bows would be a lot more likely.  In fact, I think she'd have no other choice, given that we already got enough characters using combat magic as is, and her using lances or swords is pretty unlikely as well.  And I think they confirmed somewhere that characters are stuck to a single weapon type.

First, thanks for the picture. I see what you're saying about the weapons shown, but I'm not entirely convinced that more options won't come up. If you'll permit me to speculate due to the nature of the game not yet being out, there's the option of either A; having a gradual shadow appear on the right side to denote there's more off-screen, or B; shrink the icons in such a way that keeps the confines of the box whilst allowing for more symbols.

I agree that Lissa's case isn't as remarkable, but to be fair it's also entirely possible to class her into a Sage with her copy of Emmeryn's dress as a viable path, meaning that 'Axes with Nuns' isn't necessairly her canonical choice, much as Elise can directly promote to a Maid from a Troubadour. I'm still not convinced that Sakura couldn't use scrolls, since they were tailored around animals of the zodiac as opposed to 'classic' bolts of elemental magic.

From what I recall, they specified that each character's CLASS has a single weapon, not whether or not a character couldn't change class to a separate weapon entirely. Otherwise there'd be little point in a class system outside of changing from a foot soldier to a mounted or ariel unit. But on the plus side, such a notion would suggest there'd be around 18 classes if you gave each of the provided weapons a foot, mount, and winged variation (perhaps Kinshi Knights could be viable after all)...

To be frank, there's still quite a bit that's unknown as far as the structure of the game is going to go, so I'm not inclined to outright suggest something isn't confirmed unless they explicitly say it's out (and yes that does mean I am humoring the notion there could be one or two picks outside of the selected 3 games, since the wording was they were FOCUSING on those 3).

It's unlikely the U.S. release will be that far out.  In fact if anything, it'd probably come out before Europe because Europe always seems to get slightly shafted in this regard.  This is especially true since it was specifically Nintendo of the UK that revealed the date, so we know for a fact that an English version will be finished by then.

Hate to burst your bubble, but hidden weapons were confirmed to not be in the game a while back.

Also, Sakura's promotions don't include a class that can use spears; she can either go for scrolls or yumi.  You might be thinking of the Great Master class, which is a parallel to Sakura's canon class Priestess, but that's a male exclusive class.

Source for that? I can't quite find any interviews that emphasized hidden weapons being omitted (not that that would entirely matter, as DLC is going to be an option). Also technically Sakura does have a class set with spears/naginatas; sky knight. But rather than have her on a winged horse and being an exact clone of Hinoka with healing, she can instead be a foot-based spear fighter that would have a contrasting focus to Azura. Yes it's a stretch, but there's room for modification (again, Cleric Lissa with an axe). But yes it is entirely possible for her to get yumi or scrolls instead. Or hell; maybe she'll even get both since we still have no idea what exactly class changing entails, only that it's in the game.

  5. Leo and Hinoka threw me for a loop, but a pleasant one overall. Chalk me up for the little sisters making their way in, especially if they're given some later class upgrades like Lissa with her axe (not sure if Sakura should get either scrolls or a spear, but Elise could easily get some hidden weapons). As for Azura; I'm still wholly convinced we'll get a third Fates set of characters in the form of Azura, followed by either Corrin's retainers (Felcia/Jackob, Silas, and Kaze) or the Awakening Trio.

That's the disadvantage multiplier in play. If your team is down by more than 10%, you get a score multiplier equal to 3 + 0.1 × [hour number] where the first hour of the Gauntlet is 1 and the last hour is 40, giving a minimum multiplier of 3.2× (second hour since both sides have equal points at the start of the first hour) and a maximum multiplier of 7.0× (final hour).

Ah, wasn't aware there was such a thing. oddly enough, I recall my first match happening when Tiki was about 200 million over Robin though. Still, it was an interesting discovery.

  7. 2 minutes ago, Interdimensional Observer said:

Yeah, I'm going to agree that this wasn't the best PR move. You say you're adding two Awakening characters, and don't say anything else.

You don't explain whether F!Robin is a costume or totally distinct moveset from M!Robin, the former is fine and good, but the latter reeks of totally unnecessary favoritism.

Cordelia isn't a bad choice, better than Sumia, easier to show off than the Whitewings, but the problem is we've only been seeing Awakening chars so far. Had she come after a bunch non-Awakening related characters, it wouldn't be such an issue.

I never really followed HW as that game was being revealed, so I can't use that as solace/a comparison. But regardless of how HW happened, KT/IS could handle this better. All they're doing right now is sowing unnecessary bitterness among some fans by not displaying a more sensitive handling of FEW's reveal.

It's drip-fed information; par for the course for games. the fact they chose to make those 'drips' thematically linked as far as timing goes is arguably the smarter choice, even if you've got people complaining about what they've gotten so far as information. I doubt that stretching it out would actually change the reaction, especially for Fire Emblem fans that are still focused on being pouty that the earlier games aren't being focused on. It's not about being 'sensitive' (whatever the heck that entails here); it's about keeping up interest.

Another disappointment. This is shaping up to be Awakening 3D featuring Marth and the Fates royals. So much for being a celebration of the series like Treehouse claimed.

It's shaping up to be a case of  'The game's not out yet and people were saying the same damn thing at E3 about Fates characters'. This is the same crap that people were winging and whining about for Hyrule Warriors...

    27 minutes ago, Anacybele said:

Yeah, I do have to agree that it's kind of dumb that a big majority of the cast right now is from Awakening. That's not really a celebration of the series, that's Awakening pandering.

But I'm still believing that more Fates reps are on the way as well as more Shadow Dragon ones.

Or they're doing announcements in thematic blocks and it just so happens to be Awakening's turn.

    6 minutes ago, linkhuesitos said:

What why no Caeda, one of the whitewings or heck even Minerva as a pegasusknight. Awakening has alredy too many characters.

Well if you excuse I'll go to Japan to burn Koei Tecmo offices see you in 20 years when i got out of Jail.

So your plan is to cause property damage and delay the game that may or may not have any of the characters you just mentioned? great plan, really.

It never fails to amuse me how riled up this fandom gets every-time news comes out for Warriors or Heroes that's focused on the two/three entries that are actually in the popular public eye...

IS loves giving Caeda swords at this point. She's going to be in-- this announcement changes nothing. Expect Caeda/Cordelia/Camilla to form a flier triangle.

Hopefully F!Robin is just an alt that also bodes for M!Corrin.

I'm almost dead sure that Kaze will be in as the hidden weapon/thief character.

I think there's room for more than one hidden weapon character; Kaze, Saizo, or Kagero make sense as character assassins, whereas Gaius would be focused on a support role (since were confirmed to have multiple choices, It opens up room for characters that can focus more on a specific aspect rather than all of them having to be viable for nearly every role). If it's just one character per weapon (something we already know is inaccurate, but for speculations sake) then I honestly think if any Fates character is getting the hidden weapon slot, it's either Felicia or Jakob before any of the Hoshidan ninjas.

  10. 4 minutes ago, Pokechu said:

I honestly don't see Gaius getting in, because he'd just be another swordsman with nothing special to him besides popularity. Don't we already have 8 or 9 swordies? Tharja and Cordelia use dark magic and lances so they make sense, but there's better picks than Gaius who couldn't really add anything. Popularity may be a factor, but when the character likely wouldn't be unique/add anything unique, there's no point in adding them. The Awakening trio is real popular but the general consensus is they aren't getting in. Imo if we were to get an Awakening swordie it'd be Gangrel because he would be unique in being some type of spellblade with the Levin Sword.

Hidden Weapons; retroactively giving the thief a set of daggers would go a long way to avoiding giving Awakening another sword type character. Besides that, having a character focused on sabotaging enemies via debuffs or infiltrating key parts of the map would be an interesting angle to take IMO.

I haven't seen any consensus about the trio not getting in, especially if they could be implemented as representatives of Valla with costumes based on their Awakening appearances.

  11. 15 minutes ago, Torii said:

Really excited for Cordelia, but as for female Robin I'm mixed. I just hope she doesn't take up a character slot if she ends up being similar to male Robin. Im hoping she's a costume but we'll just have to see (though for some reason I have a feeling she isn't).

On another note, we'll still need to wait for clearer pics from Famitsu, but there is one part under Cordelia that says "A route that only Pegasus Knights can take." So looks like Flying units in this game as well can take shortcuts and go through other areas that grounded units can't.

I wonder if the opposite would also occur; passages for ground units only like tunnels or gateways. It'd be a good way to add some slight vertical elements to the maps without having parts truly overlap (which as far as I can tell is avoided in Musou games)

So that makes two of the summer scramble characters playable; think it's safe to say that Gaius and especially Tharja are a lock.

"ND: How hectic indeed. Users will also see that as the biggest point after all. I think Hyrule Warriors was that good; so many people already have good faith that ‘the game will be interesting’. That’s why everyone is putting their focus on ‘which characters will come out’.

Hayashi: We’re thankful for that, but it can also put on quite a lot of pressure.

    -Everybody laughs-

Hayashi: We had a really hectic time in choosing them. At first our company considered from the weapons first and sent the proposal, but Intelligent Systems pointed us to the results of popularity polls, and Nintendo also told us ‘please add this character’, so we adjusted it little by little."

Thanks, that's pretty damning, all things considered. That said, I'm reserving judgement till the game gets near release (at least so we know what's likely to be the finalized roster) to call it as a good or bad move. I'm...ambiguous to the notion that they're already confident the game will be good; that sounds like the fandom setting itself up for disappointment, even more-so that they're already enduring.

So far I do like the choices they've made as far as characters go though, so lets see what they add from Archenea or the Fates trio of games (I am fully subscribed to the notion that each branch of Fates will count as a separate set of reps, with shared characters or possibly even the Awakening Trio being brought on to rep Valla/Revelations) to see if Nintendo/IS mandates make or break things...

  13. New character renders look cool, and it does seem like Robin's going to be a dedicated Tome user (no Levin sword, which is fine). I agree that there's likely going to be 3 trailers for Fates between the routes. Have Corrin star alongside the royal siblings in each one (and yes I do think all four are getting in per kingdom; Lissa being an Axe wielder clinches my thoughts on Sakura with Yumi and Elise with either tomes or possibly even hidden weapons as a Maid), and the have the Revelations/Valla one star Azura, Inigo, Laslow, and Selena (maybe even in their 'original' forms as a form of second gen Awakening representation so Lucina isn't all alone), or at the very least Felicia in order to get a butler/maid rep.

I didn't expect equal distribution, and I fully expected some games to get preferential treatment. Chrom was the reveal character, after all. But I was at least hoping that people from more than 3 games would be represented. Go look at any of the threads that were made prior to the "It's going to be SD, Awakening and Fates" comment, and you'll see pretty much everyone hoping/expecting at least one or two representatives from each game. I really was far from alone when it came to expecting units from all throughout the franchise.

Then the "SD, Awakening, and Fates" comment came out, and some people saw the writing on the wall, but some people were at least hoping for equal distribution if they were just limiting themselves to 3 games.

And now that's pretty much out the window, as every new piece of information about the game that's coming out is "Don't expect equal distribution, expect more Awakening."

For some people, that's great. For me, it's pretty much the worst outcome imaginable.

I remember, I also had the mindset that the clamor and furor was ultimately gearing up to be dissapointed. I remember Hyrule Warriors initial release and all the speculation about who could be brought in from the GBC days, and the backlash when it turned out that only OOT, TP, and SS were being represented. It's the sad reality, especially of a series that has at least 50 named characters per game that could be 'viable' for inclusion. Much as I'd wish and hope, I don't hold out a lot of hope that say, Fredrick or Gregor will be included. But that's fine, because I really don't see anything appealing to me about the game.

Truth be told, I hope there's no Dark Dragons from earlier games as final boss(es). I know people don't really like OC donut steel, but since FEW takes place in its own world/universe/whatever, let them make their own final boss Dark Dragon. And a Light Dragon too, because why not. I'm one of the few people that liked Lana and Cia in Hyrule Warriors :3c

I was okay with Cia and...ambivelent, towards Lana. I'd actually like to see a Light Dragon as the final boss, although it seems were being set up for another Dark Dragon based on the E3 Trailer...

Anna had better be playable. She'll cut into everything EXCEPT for those profit margins.

I know the 20+ characters is just speculation, but I think clones or shared, generic movesets would be the only way we reach that many. Gotta save some ideas for 2018's Hyrule Warriors Legends.

Sorry, I'm just really peeved that the question of Pikmin Warriors was shut down. Come on. There's nothing too weird or out there for a warriors game.

I can think of at least two dozen movesets they could pull from the main Zelda games without relying on Warriors. As long as they focus on doing a moveset that matches the class, overlap is fine. No Pikmin Warriors is disappointing, but I guess I can latch onto Dreamland Warriors in its stead...

    13 hours ago, Slumber said:

I was initially looking forward to this as being a big celebration of Fire Emblem in Warriors(A franchise I'm not really a fan of) form, which got me excited.

Then they announced that it was mostly going to be Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates, my enthusiasm dropped significantly, because by and large, those are my three least favorite casts in the franchise. And their "There'd be too many swordies" reasoning was so confusing and stupid that it frustrated me. But, I do actually like a fair chunk of Fates' characters, and while I really don't care for the Archanea characters because I think they're as bland as all hell, I do respect the archetypes many of them set, and the potential for expansion could be fun.

But with a lot of these interviews, the focus comes back to Awakening, which is hands down my least favorite cast in the franchise. And things like "Oh yeah, Donnel's a meme, and people like memes, so we'll think about adding him. Thanks for constantly memeing about Donnel, Kotaku." just make me wonder why I would ever play this if it's a franchise I'm not super into and characters I don't like are going to be front and center.

It's cool if other people are still excited, but this game is turning out to be everything I didn't want it to be.

At the risk of sounding callous, it sounds like you were setting yourself up for disappointment from the start. Anyone that had hope for this announmcent AND hope for representation from the past games (a fair number of which never made it out of Japan) was flying too close to the sun. Still, it is sad to hear that it's not going to be towards your liking; here's hoping that something gets announced in the lead-up that brings you (and me) back on board with the notion.
