Emma is clearly Leigh, and Shade sounds like Tara Sands (Or a simulacrum of Sonya)

Also treasured hunted this from 4chan, they're all of Cipher's quotes from the final battle but I can't vouch for their accuracy. (I'd have to replay the game to confirm. And my latest playthrough just had me go the point of no return at the Termple of Duma)

      Hide contents

Emma: "I don't know much, but I know this... we will NEVER lose to you."
Randal: "It's no concern of mine who decides to conquer the world. But something tells me you'd take all the fun out of it - and I can't have that."
Yuzu: "What arrogance, to try and seize control of the world. Power is only ever as great as the heart of the wielder - and yours shall falter."
Shade: "We come from a foreign land, so perhaps this isn't our battle... but you've given us plenty of evidence that we should MAKE it our battle."

Lines up with the clips I watched earlier from the English version; they're legit. Also Shade and Yuzu have the best IMO with Randal being a close third.

I'm not saying it was intentional on IS's part, but it certainly looks like they tried.

I don't think they were trying to hide them per se, but it's clear they weren't giving the games the advertising budget that it theoretically should've had. I can recall seeing some ads in magazines for Radiant Dawn and I think a commercial popped up once or twice. Compare that to something like Devil's Third, were the game pretty much was ostracized shortly after the first international trailer...

The glass cliff is a term that normally applies in a different scenario- like when a company is in decline, they'll hire a female CO to make it appear that women are less capable. I wish I was kidding.

Mind connecting how this is applicable to this scenario? It's not really meshing for me and is just coming off as an attempt to derail the conversation (which I know isn't your intention)...

Not sure what you mean here.

    Can you clarify?

I'm not familiar with that term.

The Fates manga set taking space on my shelf by itself cost about base 60 bucks. That's not including Awakening.

Or the 4 koma silly collection.

How is the manga anyway? I remember hearing they were making two separate ones for Hoshido and Nohr, but never heard anything past that (I think that was around the time I drifted from Serenes and Fire Emblem as a whole).

Exactly, the 3DS games got way more marketing and pandering. The older games didn't get any of this, which is why they're not as popular. They weren't given the same chances to shine.

Also, the Heroes poll isn't the only media I was using in my argument, if that's what SoC is referring to. There's also the Famitsu poll, which featured non-3DS characters, though Fates characters were not part of the poll. Ike won this poll as well. Marth came in second. Characters like Lyn, Hector, Ephraim, and freaking Finn were in the top ten. People like to argue that Japan is the main market here, and this poll was for the Japanese, so...

Another thing, the Heroes poll was rather flawed, yes. But it wasn't flawed to the point where you can't at all say that several non-3DS characters aren't very much loved.

EDIT: Again, I never denied that the 3DS games are popular. I'm just saying that other characters are more loved and relevant than some people seem to think.

Hmn, that could be the case. but in the end, speculation isn't what writes checks; actions do. pre-3DS entires aren't what's going to move merchandise; not when they don't have any game's attached to them outside of the likes of CIpher or Heroes. But I guess we'll see what they add to Warriors. But I will say, I wouldn't put as much stock in Lyn being a choice, seeing as how Ryoma is confirmed and takes up the Swordmaster niche...

Considering I can only see quoted material here:

    Just to put into perspective:

Her entire argument rests on one piece of media. Which has flaws in the system already pointed out.

While there is one thing that overrides popularity polls:

    People speaking with their money.

And Akanea via Awakening and nostalgia "poster boy" Prince Mars and the unknown continent of If/Fates has made them more money than Tellius and Magvel have ever done.

Not only through game sales, but side merch.

    Kamui nendo and figma.

Keychains being brought back. Like that never happens. Once they're gone they're usually gone.

Good point; most of the older entries had just the game or maybe a spinoff manga to their 'brand'. We all could go back and forth on what merits the 3DS games have that made them the rebirth of the series, but there's no denying that Awakening, Fates, and potentially Echoes has been able to justify merchandise outside of just the games. Could Tellius, Magvel, or Jugdral do the same? possibly, but we'll have to see if or when they release 'Echoes' style remakes of those entries...

  8. Kind of surprised that they only revealed the three characters. I'm sure they have unique enough play-styles (had work, and now my internet is too spotty to watch any videos...), but for their whole bluster of avoiding 'too many swords', it's humorous that they had three representatives for Fates using swords. Well fingers crossed that the next set from Fates are a little more diverse (I'd say Camilia, Hinoka, or Azura would be the most viable).

Huh, I just realized that all three shown were the perspective heir/ess of their kingdoms, and that Corrin being a woman is due to Fates favoring a female avatar as far as pairing off for children goes...

Bah, might as well just make it a flat-textured piece of geometry then. Her outfit in the Summer Scramble graphics is a nice enough showing; just give it a little more flourish and a detachable skirt and she'll be good to go.

Why not? I'd be curious to see them put some actual effort into designing swimwear and accessories that doesn't end up being a generic looking underwear-bikini or speedos... just avoid slings and were good to go.

  11. 1 hour ago, Anacybele said:

True, I'm not arguing that people like Ike and Lyn can't be DLC, of course. Though I still hope Ike is in the base game for now.

I have no idea why Groose was left out of Hyrule Warriors, but Vaati and any other Four Sword Zelda content were probably left out due to copyright issues. Capcom officially owns the rights to those. There are no copyright problems with any of the potential FE characters.

Tharja will never be in Smash, lol. Not if her removed trophy is any indication.

Hyrule Warriors couldn't handle the pompadour paragon, simple as that. Tharja could still be included if they gave her more of a focus on fighting rather than being sex appeal (If I recall, the trophy that was axed was based off a prolific statue that was made of Tharja that's gotten quite the reputation, as it were).

On topic; I think that unless a character is directly fighting another for space ala Lyn/Alm (lords with bows) and has no unique space, they should still be viable. Even if you factor in spellsword users since Robin is practically a lock, but would be focused on thunder magic, vs Celica with Fire, if Ragnarok is any testament. While I think it's fair to suggest that we'd not get one without the other, I still would place a greater chance on seeing Celica over Alm, and maybe having one of the Echoes-exclusive characters added in (most likely Berkut if were being honest). I disagree that Eliwood 'doesn't add to the table'; being a mounted unit is already a unique position to stand on (and since were all in silent accord that Seliph/Sigurd have less than an ideal's chance) as well as being the face of the first U.S. released game (AND being directly tied to another notably popular character, meaning the interactions between them would practically write themselves). Ephraim I would place over Eirika if it came down to a choice due to being a lance user, but giving Eirika a fencer's moveset would also work pretty well (it was a decent enough weapon for Zelda in Hyrule Warriors even without the magic boosts).

My main point is whether or not it will continue to be relevant at all. And macho-Effie being in a third game makes it somewhat more relevant than the currently dead relevancy it has now.

I may or may not be looking for reasons to continue my hatred, also that's not how you spell Gotoh.

Hate to say it, but it looks like macho-Effie is going to be the default. Which is honestly a shame, since I liked her interactions in the Japanese release compared to being Sully 2.0 Deluxe in the localization...

As much as it pains me to say this, the lamentations and cries of the community would probably be just as entertaining as the news itself.

It's why I'm more inclined to keep what I enjoy at an arm's distance; close enough to appreciate it and hold decent conversation, but all to ready to step aside and let it burn to the ground under the wallows of despair whenever the community revolts...

Nobody is saying Rudolf's plan is morally correct. The game doesn't either. But it was 100% necessary. Make no mistake, had Mila and Duma been allowed to contine as they were, the results would have been far more devastating. Draconic degeneration is very real. Tiki, a freaking newborn child, was sealed away for eternity (and would have remained sealed if not for Bantu) as the damage she could cause if she went mad was just that serious. What two full powered divine dragons would have to done to the world is on a whole new level.

I don't know why people keep bringing up the question of why Rudolf didn't just go after the Duma Faithful. Did theses people completely miss the point? Getting rid of the Duma Faithful from the start would solve nothing. Absolutely nothing. Rudolf cannot unite the continent just by slaying gods. That would just cause more chaos.

It's kind of funny; for all this prater about grounded villains and relate able experiences, the truth is the majority of the Fire Emblem worlds are just one moody dragon's rampage away from utter annihilation. the Rigelian empire, the Duma Faithful, Desaix's little power play, they don't mean SQUAT when a dragon finally succumbs to its maddness and gives into baser instinct. 'Go after the Faithful', they're nothing more than cultists; they have the connections and means and are indeed quite a threat, but nothing, NOTHING compared to the powers of the dragons. Not to mention the fact people don't seem to understand that Rudolf might know what was going to happen, but he also knew that he was NOT the one that could make the transition smooth or peaceful. Like thinking that the Emperor announcing some bumpkin from their hated enemies is his son and worthy of their trust; actions speak louder than words, especially in Rigel...

I largely liked Echos's story, especially after Fates had some major ball-drops in its plot.  Additionally, when the game has plot elements that might be weird or implausible, they at least have characters react like you might expect; Alm being offered leadership of the Deliverance is a good example.  Yes, this is a surprise, but Alm / Fernand are astonished, so sure, it's a surprise in-setting too.  Anyway, there's nitpicks and there's thematic problems.  Thematic problems are much harder to fix.  My two big theme complaints:

    * As others have noted, Alm having royal blood undercuts Act I pretty hard.  This would be fine if characters had time to grapple with this and comment on it, but it could easily lead to "Oh, I guess commoners are scum after all, that explains why you're so awesome, Alm!  Welcome to the club!  Let's go oppress some peasants now."  There's interesting ways you could take this plot element, but as is, it's just have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too; Alm is a peasant hero who understands the working man's toil, but ALSO has super speshul magic tattoos and a destiny.  Pick one!

    * Rudolf.  Ugh.  This is more of a "Japan" thing since Rudolf's plotline has showed up before, but the narrative is way, way too light on Rudolf.  Sure, you can argue the game lets Berkut off the hook too much for his later evil acts, but eh, deathbed repentance is a classic trope, and he had a good reason to be angry.  Rudolf is basically proto-Walhart, and he has the same problem: uhh, game, forcing a big war to force humanity to become stronger, and traumatizing his son & nephew, are NOT the acts of a nice or sane person!  Nor close!  The plot could have treated him as someone with the germ of a good idea who went crazy, or had him be possessed, or have him outright change sides halfway through and make C4 all about fighting the Duma Faithful (if he's so strong, shouldn't he be helping fight Duma, just as he beat up Mila?), or a number of other options.  Instead, the game insists that his plan was somehow rational and reasonable, endorsed by Mycen & all.  No!  No it's not!  Suicide-by-son is crazypants, so is driving your nephew insane, so is starting a big war which will make people weaker, not stronger!  Just write him as a villain, not a tragic hero.  Ugh.  At least Walhart was vaguely hinted that had he conquered the other continent, he'd have wrecked both of Grima / Naga in the process, hence the Grimleal not liking him either.  Rudolf seems to have totally forgotten what he was up to.  (And he's not willing to kill his son directly in battle, but he'll kill his sons friends?  Right, father of the year award here.)

The Rudolf one is bad.  Reminds me of how FE9 properly thought of the Black Knight as a villain, then FE10 flipped the script and decided that murdering Greil because he wanted an anime ultimate duel was perfectly rational and Ike gets it and it's no big deal.  No!  No no no!  Crazy motivations are fine, just write them as villains that need to be taken out!

Funny, I could've sworn writing characters as 'villains that need to be taken out' was one of the more vocal criticisms the 3DS generation of games has been knocking with. It's not like Rudolf PLANNED for Berkut to go nuts; just an unfortunate side-effect of having to deceive his nephew to keep his son safe. The point is that Rudolf wasn't nice, but he DID know what was coming and what would need to be done in the not-so-distant future. Say he decides to take matters directly into his own hands; he slays Mila and Duma and becomes a tyrant, meaning that his bloodline and the peace he took upon himself from insane gods would be wiped out at most shortly after his inevitable death. What he did by orchestrating his son; a boy that was born with the Brand that would mark him as a unique player in the final rounds of the dragon's rule over Valentia, to be given a normal life with his 'grandfather' and one day become the face of a rebellion and the most popular choice for the throne, was the most calculated and best-case scenario that he could've asked for.

Rudolf sacrificed a chance of being a father and what's surely his place in history as a noble and just ruler in order to give his son the means to truly unite the lands and free them from the reign of Gods. The Duma Faithful are just as much threats to Rudolf as they are to the Zofian/Deliverance side of things. the Faithful want to not only keep mankind under the claws of dragons, but specifically Duma. And he KNEW that if Alm was revealed with the brand, the Faithful would kill his son or try to sacrifice him to bring about their ambitions. Remember that Duma's teachings favor might; the strong survive, the weak cower. Whatever scores of bodies lain cold will be balanced or succeeded by the few that earn their survival.

  16. I wonder what are the chances they blow their load early and make the antagonist a Divine Dragon; not corrupted like Duma, but a full-blown holier-than-thou type asshole dragon that's got the same power as Naga (hell, maybe it's Naga herself)...

So far Invoke has been useful, but that's all, I don't especially like it. It is broken, while also being a curse for the summoner. I mean, I was surrounded by Gargoyles in the Temple of Mila's map, and Genny summoned Illusions that surrounded her. So I couldn't heal her with Celica, and she was shot by a passing Archer that I haven't paid attention to.... Screw my carelessness... Else it saved my skin  quite some times.  Yet, I tend to forget this mechanic is here unless I'm in a pinch.
Also I wonder why the number of invocations is random. When I saw the "up to eight units summoned max" in the description, I had thought that you could summon as many illusions as you wish up to 8 Illusion but the more you summon, the more HP you sacrifice. Then I tested it, and I was disappointed to see it was random. Sometimes, I hoped that I had summoned 8 Illusions and I only summoned 4 and it wasn't enough to protect all my units (or I could also try less risky tactics, but it isn't really my playstyle...).
My other complaint is how the level of the invocations don't scale with the summoner's. the Illusions are so weak it hurts... They are just meat shield...minus the meat part. Well, I don't want them to steal my units' exp either but 1 damage is pretty lame.

On the other hand, Conjure is extremely annoying. Sending raids of Gargoyles was the worst thing they could have done... And I haven't come across Dolth yet, but I'm sure the Necrodragons will be a pleasure to deal with... Not to mention they put Cantors on Supplies tile, which makes the fight even more tedious that it already was. Not to mention the Creatures are too weak to bring enough EXP.

In the end, I think Invoke was OK, but I think it can be much better. And they need to tone down with Conjure, I had enough with Cantors already, and the game hasn't ended yet

Honestly, Dolth was pretty fun to fight IMO, even when I had the misfortune to land on his tile after he summoned a replacement Necrodragon encounter (four more of the winged bonepiles to deal with at the start). I wish the Gargoyles weren't used so heavily; they were okay at first but then became insufferable due to getting the most summons on average (I think I can count on one hand the times that there were less than five) and just being a stupidly done foe that doubles chip damage and clogs up the battleground.

I think I'd like to see Conjure/Invoke again, but it does need to be tweaked. Maybe mix it with the Dragon Veins/Supply tiles and make it only possible from a certain space for a limited time. Then it becomes less of a slog to the enemy that doesn't even attack where the map is your biggest threat (seriously, fuck the Cantors that ended up taking up Deen's map), but a constant movement between trying to eat up another mystical supply tile where you can catch them in transit. Meanwhile, Invoke SHOULD give you the choice of how many units you summon or at the very least how strong they'd be depending on how much health you sacrifice, say 7 lvl 1 soldiers for 8 health vs. 3 lv5 soldiers for the same cost. To build on this, invocations should have a 'timer' in the form of constantly taking damage at the start of their turn (like being on a hazard tile). Also, it'd be cool if they could branch out to make a customization aspect of what units you use, maybe via making a dedicated playable class out of Cantors that gets more unit types to access the more of a certain unit it kills?

Also, 16 sword lords. That is the number we're working with if we include every game in the series. That is about half the expected cast. And that's not counting Hector, Elincia or even Kris.

Given that the weapon triangle is a mechanic in this game AND it's the first entry in a potential spin-off series, I don't understand how everyone is just jumping the gun and not looking at raw facts. Hyrule Warriors should have ALWAYS been used as a baseline for what to expect, yet it seems people were expecting Warriors Orochi instead.

Maybe I'm just a man of relatively reasonable temperament, but all this seems like a shitstorm that had no right existing.

Also I'd argue the reason they laugh at us for being whiny babies is because they aren't affected and don't really care but whatever

This is the issue with drip-feeding information, especially for a game that has such a...schizophrenic fanbase as Fire Emblem.

Because I have to tell you that last option is pretty shallow.

I'll admit I've only really played Hyrule Warriors for more than a few hours compared to One Piece or Gundam, but I can appreciate the gameplay, but not enough to pull the trigger on a 'mainline' entry. So...guess I'm about six feet in the pool, then?

Maybe a "complete edition" will come out someday so I won't have to spend $60 for the base games + another $60 for all the DLC.  Who knows.  Though if the game has Camus and Merric in its roster, and it goes on sale I'd consider it.
