  1. Stop putting words in my mouth, all you're doing is taking what I said in passing and twist them into your argument. Everyone who mentioned anything about other supports only mentioned which ones they really liked, not as to why it was good. GTFO of here if you think that holds any validity. Fire Emblem had always had basic writing, it was never award winning rip at your emotions writing. Whether you like them or not, is personal opinion. Where is this godforsaken earth will gamers jump in glee with having features ripped out of it? tell me. Having the ability to support whoever you want with whoever you want is an advancement, it allows endless customization, people in the past had always moaned about not being able to support person A with person C, and now that you can do it, you want to take it away?. To regress from that is foolhardy, you should be encouraging to improve upon it, not to regress. They already given the player control over what they do, I've mentioned it multiple times already. And having dialogue choices is just asking for a massive slew of problems, it'll may one day get there, but it won't happen anytime soon. There's simply far too many characters. It is doable in wRPGs because of how limited it was when it came to characters. The budget needed to have a feature like that into a game like Fire Emblem far exceed what Fire Emblem is generally given. Until, Fire Emblem becomes a series that Nintendo is willing to invest that kind of money and development time, don't expect it to happen anytime soon.
  2. I dunno, they've made high school girls look like Camilla in anime's for a long ass time.
  3. To have Camilla love Kamui as a man at their first meeting, their age different wouldn't be large. 1 maybe 2 years.
  4. Can you give some examples from fates? Cause there's so many things in fates that discourages rambo units. Pair-Up bonuses are stupid low this time around and pairup partners don't attack, skills like galeforce only works if the unit is solo with no allies near it. Rallies got nerfed, they give only +2 instead of +4 like in Awakening, strong weapons like Silvers puts a -2 debuff on both STR and SKL everytime you attack with it, and it stacks, effectively if used a ton of times on enemy phase, will put you at 1 str and skill. Not to mention enemies will debuff the crap out of you too.
  5. Old and new both, I consider myself an old time FE fan, been one for roughly 11 or 12 years. But, I don't pretend old FEs are perfection. They had solid gameplay, but could use some tweeking in some areas. The stories were mediocre at best, characters for the most part shallow and typically 1 or 2 dimensional. Never once, have I empathized with a fire emblem character, it never had that kind of writing. The only reason why characters like Nephenee were my favorite, was because she had a cute design, cute personality qwerk, and was a total beast. I love Fire Emblem but I don't make it out to be something that it's not. I agree, but I think some old players would feel it'd be a step back as well. When Radiant Dawn came out, despite how disgustingly bad the supports was, people loved that you can support with anyone giving the freedom to strategize and customize how you want. I feel it should only go forward, the most logical step would be to improve the quality of the support convo's themselves, and if the budget allows it, somewhere down the line, make it more intricate. Baby Steps, I say, I baby steps. I believe that IS is heading in the right direction with Fire Emblem, if they continue to be progressive with the gameplay, then it's only gonna go up. What they need now, is a solid writing staff.
  6. All fanbases are bad, overly critical, tendency to talk about the bad more than the good, excessively blinded by nostalgia, etc
  7. It'll end up pissing off more people than appease. There' be a complete shit fest of why can't I waifu X person?! and so forth. It was bad enough when people were constantly bitching as to why person A can't support person C in past fire emblems, but if you take away a feature that allows that freedom, it'll be a complete shitfest.
  8. The problem with having a avatar with controllable personality, is the supports. Can you imagine the amount of work needed to make dialogue trees for every single support conversation?
  9. Yeah Kamui was already born, and they were on the run for some time before Sumeragi saved them.
  10. She said loved him as a man CAMILLA: But I... I love you so much. Not as a brother, but as a man. I always have, from the moment I laid eyes on you.
  11. Yeah I mentioned that in one of my posts. Kamui mentioned how he didn't have any memories of his childhood in the prologue. Also how Camilla during support convo mention how she fell in love with Kamui at first sight. So he was probably around 10 or so when he got kidnapped. And that also insinuates that Camilla is much closer in age, than people give credit for. If she's like let's say 6 years older, it'd be freaking weird for a 16yr old to be attracted on that level to a 10 yr old or younger. Yeah the federal age of consent is 13, but each region set their own age limits. 16 is the most common age.
  12. You're right, it was awhile since I read it. Sumeragi brought Mikoto after the fact, of the other 4 being born, and she had a child with her (you). Apparently Sumeragi told the others that they were bruddahs from another mutha, lol sorry had to do it lol. Until sometime later after you were already kidnapped, that the siblings were told the truth that you were from a different father and are not related.
  13. That boils down to personal preference, I thought Mark was some shoehorned garbage, it'll have the same effect if they never had that option. And I can't stand silent protagonists, because most times they do "talk" but you just don't see it, NPCs would talk to you and answer questions that you supposedly ask, or a statement you supposedly make, but you don't see it. But this is most prominent in jRPGs, I don't ever recall a jRPG with any meaningful dialogue choices. except for dating sims and visual novels. Also, just because you don't have thousands of dialogue tree choices that ultimately means nothing, doesn't mean you're not making any choices. You still decide which side you go with, and depending on your choices your actions through the chosen choice can result in bad things to happen. Also, there's the choice of doing supports or not doing supports, if you don't bother to do supports, it's the same as a wRPG, as choosing the option to tell the npc to bugger off. But that's just me. Anyway, long story short, after nearly 30 years of gaming, I've come to accept jRPGs for what they are and enjoy them for what they are, as well as with wRPGs. And try to expect the way one genre does things to happen with another. But feel free to correct me though, if there's a jRPG that flows in the same veins as wRPGs, like with BioWare and Bethesda, I'd like to know. But in the end, I question if Kamui is even intended to be a self insert, but rather just allowing the player to name and design the lead they want, over "insert gary stu blue haired lord".
  14. You literally said "even if it's implemented well, that you won't like it, cause it's fire emblem."
  15. Kamui spent his childhood in Hoshido, his memory was wiped after getting kidnapped. In the beginning of the game during conversation, Kamui apologize to the Nohr siblings that he doesn't remember his past. Also Camilla said she was in love with him when she first met him. Tell me, how many people fall in love with infants.
  16. those games despite having silent protagonists, it didn't really matter, it didn't impact story and character progression. As I mention before, a silent protagonist is only good for some people. Others don't like silent protagonist, and others don't get it. It's why it's been a running joke with jRPGs having silent protagonists. Good for RPers but not for everyone else. Having let's say Commander Shepard, actually speak for some, break immersion, as it's suppose to be your voice.
  17. Just hypothesis based on the story flow. Kamui was already born, or near birth before arriving to Hoshido. Hinoka was young enough to believe that Mikoto is her mother, meaning she was too young still to have awareness. Which is younger would put her at younger than 2 years old, at 2 you've already establised mentally as to who your family are.
  18. I would like to add, that I love your answer. People need to remember that this in it's essence is a jRPG, and expect a complete blank slate like it was in the 80s and 90s for jRPGs, and modern day wRPGs
  19. Hinoka and Camilla are the same age, all the siblings are parallels to each other. Hinoka is only roughly a year older than Kamui. Just keep that in mind.
  20. A lot of you don't seem to understand anime aging conventions....
  21. I remember reading somewhere that Camilla and Hinoka are 17
