  1. My general thoughts, assumptions and wishes about the characters:

I actually don't think Edelgard will be too interested in romance or be the typical "girl." If anything, she looks like she'll be the more well rounded of the trio, being serious when needed but being able to lighten up, again, when necessary. Essentially, she'll be the middle man between Claude and Dimitri at the beginning. When the conflict begins, Edelgard seems as if she'll become the most invested in overturning the current state of their continent, which might lead to her becoming the so-called "leader" of the trio. This would be because her country or family is closely aligned with the church, and she sees the flaws of it while her family/country does not or refuses to. Under the assumption that Byleth is the "teacher" she is referring to, Edelgard is likely the closest to him and/or cares for him more than the others, considering her plea in the final dialogue of the trailer for him not to forget her and their promise to meet again (if I'm remembering the trailer correctly). I really don't want a romance between them, because I generally love well-written student-mentor relationships, but there is a chance she herself may develop feelings for "Teacher." as long as Byleth can refuse her i'm good with it

Claude's the laidback, playful one of the group. If he becomes comic relief - which I hope he doesn't - I hope they at least make him capable and intelligent in his own right (kind of like Sokka from AtLA). But, anyways, Claude looks to be either uninterested or afraid to take on the responsibilities his status demands, so he skirts by by doing just enough. This is a point of both conflict and a contrast of personality between him and Dimitri, causing arguments between them. When the game's conflict begins, he'll be forced into a position of responsibility he doesn't want, or he'll refuse the responsibility completely and remain indecisive until a boiling point (likely something involving innocents or his country's army), which will get him personally involved. His relationship with "Teacher" might involve, predictably, responsibility, dealing with the pressure of it and how to accept that the decision of one can affect the many.

Dimitri is the polar opposite of Claude. Whereas Claude runs from his responsibilities, Dimitri embraces them - almost to a fanatical degree. He takes his studies seriously and excels in them. He looks like he'll be the butt of Claude's jokes, while he himself will always nag Claude about shirking his duties. Dimitri either has faith in the church or comes from a family heavily aligned with them, similar to Edelgard, which would make it difficult for him to go against them despite any misgivings or personal thoughts he has. He would be a deconstruction of the "Camus" archtype, in that he realizes that blindly following is not true loyalty, learning instead that doing what he knows is right and questioning the questionable, even when going against the grain, is what his country/family needs. For a more tsundere humanizing element, Dimitri is aware that his rigidness is a weakness of his but doesn't know how or is afraid to change; this would be a defining point of his relationship with "Teacher."

Last but not least, Byleth is... I really don't know. I just know he might be "Teacher."

  2. So, now, I've concluded I'm not a fan of how the renders look and not the art style itself, because I actually like what designs we've seen. Hopefully, they'll look more polished by the time the game is released but, if not, I mean, it's not a complete deal breaker. But I will likely look at both IntSys and the game with the side eye for years to come.

My only real nitpick is that the main color of the three lords' uniforms is black with different colors being the accent. Yes, I understand it's a uniform, but I think it might have looked better had the colors been inverted or something - like, Edelgard's main color would be red, Dimitri's blue and Claude's yellow. Could have still been a uniform and the colors would represent what country they hail from. Again, not a deal breaker but a nitpick. I'm pretty sure the designs will grow on me more, as they have been since the trailer.

Dmitri and Edelgard's designs have grown on me the most. Edelgard, in particular. Her hair-eye color combo clashed to me, but I've grown accustomed. Dimitri, I think, is my second favorite (after Claude). I like how you can get a general feel for his personality simply from his expression and how he wears his uniform: rigid, by-the-books and likely with sarcastic or dry humor. I could be wrong about that - they could subvert that - but I'm really diggin' him now.

Uh, I think that's all I'll say for now, to be honest.

It's how they completely butchered Fates' localization. They changed dialogue in a way that original script was heavily altered and characters were altered in a way that they didn't mesh with their portrayal in the Japanese version. There are things to nitpick about such as Arthur's name (the letter H on his belt being the initial for his real name Harold) among many others

I knew the H stood for his name, but it could also stand for the word "hero" as well, which would still work for his character.

    just saiyan is all

I will admit that Fates doesn't have the greatest localization, but I'm not going to count out Treehouse yet. Maybe I'm too lenient and forgiving, but I'll judge them on the final product.

  4. My current merge project:

    A0F60Qd.png

My favorite Wild Samurai. He's +ATK -SPD, though I thought about a +DEF nature. Axes, swords, lances, bows and daggers alike ricochet off of him as he block specials with his fortified arms and lower strength with his B.O. Everyone falls before him with a charged Ignis, which obliterates even armors. Gonna change his spouse with someone with high RES and wait for more merges.

    Other project:

    oqkeae4.png

He's +SPD -RES but I might swap for -DEF instead. Copied the build from the YT user Lu Bu Feng Xian. He's gonna be on a similar team as well. WoM + Dancer is used for teleport shenanigans. Need another 4,000 feathers to promote for Galeforce and contemplating sacrificing a Marisa for Infantry Pulse.

  5. I'm believe they'll go similarly to the SS route. Main characters are in the military academy together before the main conflict kicks off. The lords are pushed on different sides of the conflict. They each approach teacher for help but teacher doesn't choose until after all three has asked for assistance, so as a means for the player to choose their main lord. At some point, all of them will reunite because the crests of their three houses will complete the Fire Emblem or something.

I'm hoping it'll be something else, though. In particular, I'd like if you could choose a main lord to follow for the entire game. But each side has a different perspective on the main conflict, allowing for major differences like recruitable characters, available items and possibly maps. It would be one where the story is put together by playing through each route. But that may be asking too much, to be honest.

I'm not sure which trailer you are referring to. Is it the Fire Emblem direct one (the one from January 2017)? If yes, the trailer for SoV was not in English. And the game was released a month after the Japanese release. I think Japanese and WW release will be exact or close. It'd be really nice if it has the same since it seems both trailers for the game seemed to point at the same window.

Just now, Blade Lord Lyn said:

The SoV trailer of the english version of the FE direct was not in English. Also you made a really good point since we did get english Dub so the release is likely not far in the Spring.

I honestly don't know about or can't remember any of the trailers. So I just referred to any trailer as "the trailer for SoV." Sorry about that.

But yeah, this was my point. I was wondering if maybe because we have English footage, localization is already in progress and could possibly affect the release date. It'll likely be after the Japanese release date but it may be sooner than we think, which would be nice.

  7. I'm conflicted. I'm leaning towards #TeamDimitri because he reminds me of Gizel Godwin from Suikoden V. But #TeamClaude is also there. And he's so adorable. I might honestly flip a coin if choosing between them all is necessary. or i might just go with edelgard becuz i love me some axe ladies

On localization, though. The trailer is in English as were in-game menus. Was the trailer for SoV in English? And, if it was, do you guys think this might perhaps affect how soon the game comes out next year?

How about "no", because I want to see what the game is about first.  Whatever happens in regards to supports should make sense within the setting.

Imagine you're going out on a blind date.  You know a few things about the guy (about your age, some similar interests), but the date is two months away.  Meanwhile, you really REALLY want this relationship to work, despite only knowing a bit about the guy.  So. . .you start to daydream.  Think about what he's like.  Maybe let your mind wander into "happily ever after" territory.

Once you get an idealized version of the guy in your mind, you actually meet him.  Since he's human, and most likely not a perfect match for the ideal you built up for yourself, he's probably going to seem disappointing in comparison.

That's what happens when people read too much into a short release trailer.  The reactions don't surprise me at all.

    That sounds pretty accurate.

Eh, maybe it's because I didn't lurk around in this subforum waiting for leaks.

I guess one of the reasons I'm liking the new installment is because it reminds me a lot of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, which I absolutely loved. I also see some aspects of Shadows of Valentia in there which I also like. The music was also all right.

The rest of the stuff (artwork, story, and characters) I need more information before forming an opinion. Right now I'm having a positive outlook.

It's probably best that you didn't look, to be honest.

It's a bit funny, but I just watched a video talking about long wait times for projects, the reasons behind them and how it can make fans go from excited to angry and then bored. The latter seems to have happened to some that have stuck around since the beginning of the FESwitch speculation, and it might be an element of the overall lukewarm reception.

It's a shame, too. I was looking forward to more positivity, but I can't fault people for those opinions or how they feel.

  10. Personally, I think the art looks a little flat. Reminds me a bit of FE: Warriors, in which I do think some of the overall menus and designs could do to be a bit more...detail. Like, the menus could look like parchment scrolls or whatever it's called for flavor. But, that's just personal opinion and observation; it doesn't necessarily detract from the overall image.

I do get Avatar vibes from that one guy. But, since I have a neutral-good opinion of avatar in general, I don't particularly mind. Just gonna have to wait and see how it's implemented - if it's even there to begin with.

Three houses? Will battles have three armies in them now? Reminds me of Samurai Warriors where a third yellow army could crash in on others' battles. I also like that there are platoons now; makes it feel more fleshed out now.

Overall, I'm tentatively excited. I'm generally optimistic when it comes to things, so that we finally a general date is enough to lift my spirits.

  11. I hope that, if on the chance the JP and ENG versions have different release dates, someone here on SF will be kind enough to stream the JP version. Similar to how someone streamed Fates when it first came out. That's typically how I get my fix of games I'm waiting for without really spoiling myself on the story. I'm usually more interested in seeing game play, character designs and then presentation (judged in about that order) and worry about story when the game is in English.

  12. Of those that I can remember:

    1. Got a +SPD -DEF Lancina when pulling for Hardin, I believe. I built her but hardly use her. Still, it was nice to have a different brave unit besides Lyn.

    2. Got pity broken first by a +SPD -RES Sanaki and then a +RES -ATK Siegbert when begging L!Ike to come home during his debut legendary banner. I still have both of them, but Siegbert might get sacrificed soon.

    3. +DEF -RES Gunnthra decided to show her face during this past legendary banner as I was trying to bride Santa Chroms to come home. Can't fodder her, so she just takes up space.

    4. Got an +ATK -DEF Zelgius and then a +HP -SPD one when setting out orb treats for Halloween Nowi. Keeping one for fodder and happily built the other one.

    5. Just got a Aether fodder Lucina on the past TT banner.

    6. +SPD -RES Fallen!Celica decided to spread the splendor of Lord Duma during the past legendary banner as well. Don't know how to build her but gonna keep her around.

    7. Amelia decided to drop off a Slaying Axe+ during some banner, I can't remember, but I distinctly remember not wanting her. Well, at least Arthur has a new weapon to hand out justice with.

@saisymbolic You are being very kind to Konami. Kudos to you. They destroyed all of my goodwills towards them after turning Silent Hill into a pachinko machine, firing Kojima and calling it a planned vacation. Let's not even get into what they did to the gem that was Suikoden. And then there is the horrid treatment of their employees. Pretty inexcusable.

Yeah, it's really hard. Like, I really hate the things they've done currently and can't excuse or condone those decisions. But I also can't forget the good things that they have done and what they used to be.

  14. Level-5: All their games have a certain charm to them. It's hard for me to describe it completely, but there's always the feeling that they put their all into games they develop. Like, you can tell they had fun. Not that other game companies don't, but there's just something. Or, at the very least, they make some pretty interesting RPGs. The ones I've played over the years (Rogue Galaxy, both Dark Cloud games, Dragon Quest 8 and Ni No Kuni) are the ones that I remember with a distinct clarity and happiness.

Tri-Ace: All their games have really interesting game mechanics and a distinct tone I know on sight. Well, they used to. Pre-2011, that is. Like, Radiata Stories, Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria all have this presentation that you know they're from the same company. It's kind of a weird thing to notice and appreciate, but I have fond memories of their older games.

And both an honorable and dishonorable mention would be Konami. It hurts, honestly. Iconic games like CastlevaniaSuikodenMetal Gear and Silent Hill are the ones I remember with fondess. I remember a simpler time. And, even though those times are gone, they're the only ones that matter to me. So, I hold the Konami that gave me those games close to my heart and happily ignore the current one of today.

The Village of Mozu: Would just be a spiritual successor of Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon, but with Nohrian/Hoshidan flair.  It'd take place probably before or after the events of Fates.  Definitely would play that, especially if they actually integrated Asian farm goods like rice.

I would play this in a heartbeat. Also:

Cookin' Mozu: Food from the Heart - A hodge-podge of a cooking/dating sim game taking place after Revelations, likely. "After the war, Mozu enters her next grand battle: filling up every empty belly with food made with love and care! Follow Mozu as she conquers the kitchen - and hearts! Upgrade kitchen utensils and restaurant to attract customers from all over the world! Discover delicious recipes native to Nohr and Hoshido to fill up Mozu's Cookbook! Take care of her garden to grow fresh ingredients to boost meal quality and the kitchen's reputation! Reconnect with old war buddies over hot meals and grow closer than ever before! So many stomachs, so little time! Better get started!" i died a little writing this

Way of the Bushido: Sunflower - A open world RPG starring Hinata. Run around and challenge random people to fights, where Hinata can get ganged up on by other passersby. Upgrade his sword using parts from defeated enemies; he gets them by repeatedly kicking their prone bodies. Open up a dojo given to Hinata by Izana and bully people into joining. Find and defeat Kagero to become the sensei of the dojo, so the students don't get curbstomped every time Hinata steps foot outside it. Ally Hinata with the shogunate Anankos, the foreigners Elise or the rebels Takumi to discover different events and endings. i straight up ripped off way of the samurai 4

  16. Fates: Mozu. Shura. Yukimura. Mitama. Forrest. Dwyer.

Awakening: Owain. Brady. Basilio. Gregor. Maribelle.

Tellius: Naesala. Pelleas. Reyson. Rafiel. Pretrine. Ashnard. Kurthnaga. Nasir. Haar. Zihark. Stefan. Renning. Bertram.

Blazing Sword: Rath. Heath. Legault. Nils.

Bertram, in particular, I would like to see. Not more than any of the others on the list, but I just think he would be really cool to see and hear in the game.

  17. Hinata x Ephraim: "You wanted a fight," Ephraim boasts. Hinata responds that, yes, he wants a fight. They're both always looking for a good fight. Ephraim warns him he doesn't know how to hold back. It starts out one-sided with Ephraim having the WTA but Hinata overcomes him with Steady Breath + CD3 + QR3 + Ignis proc unyielding determination and persistence. Impressed by his valor and skill, they make an oath in the halls of Askr to remain sworn brothers for as long they are together and they walk off to challenge more allies hand in hand s-rank achieved.

PA!Azura x B!Knight: PA!Azura wonders why he wears such a helmet, even among allies. Zelgius B!Knight returns the question. Why would she, Azura, hide her identity? PA!Azura is incredulous. Her name is not Azura; Zelgius B!Knight must be mistaken. And the other heroes corroborate her claim. Incredibly impressed by the songstress' ability to warp the perception of any person that looks upon her veil-covered countenance, Zelgius B!Knight vows to protect her from harm.

Any character voiced by Greg Chun: They decide to talk about cheesecake.
