  1. ok, so I've read most of the posts here, and I agree with most of what's said.  As much as I want to imput my thoughts, I'd look like an idiot and am better sticking to asking the questions and not answering. So, If I may ask, why is Marisa above Amelia in the Bottom teir?  Doesn't she have 1-2 range ability with  javelins at base? And what of the speed wings that you can get from her on eirika's route?  Are those more valuable than Marisa's usability as a whole?

I like how the list is now, and personally I believe that Amelia is the worst unit in the game. But I want to know if my belief still holds up when 1-2 range is such an important factor in GBA FE and FE as a whole.

I don't understand what you're trying to say...

What I mean is, why would it matter if she is the best unit in the game when she's already considered to be on par with some of the best the game has to offer?  The game is almost 10 or 11 years old now.  It doesn't make much sense to go and change Jill's status of "one of the best" to "the best" when your list of top units already states who is worth the most investment.

In these last two years or so, some people leaned towards the possibility that she might just be the best in the game- and at the very least, 2nd. She does what Haar does but in a significantly harder part of the game. She does require a ton of investmet, but it's not like she doesn't pay off by being the possible best unit in the game.

But why though?  She's one of the best, so why not settle for like 3rd or 4th place?

  4. Thanks for the reply.  Very solid points all around.  I remember overlooking jill because the res units I ended up using were mages or elincia.  and mostly putting a ton of effort into edward left me to do little with jill.  But I never took the time to invest in jill heavily so I suppose that;s why she always turned out bad for me when I wasn't actively putting effort to train her.  Do you that it matters that haar is with the greil mercs in terms of his usefulness?  Because Haar can be good, and sometimes even better with assistance of the greil mercs in my opinion.  Just another thing I was thinking of.

  5. Ok, so I have not played RD in 3 to 4 years.  Lost the game, and I'm too broke to buy a used copy.  So, I can't test this kinda thing out for myself.  I was always under the impression that Haar was the best unit in the Game.  But now people tell me it is jill.  So, if I could get some clarification on why jill is so great for the dawn brigade's chapters, that'd be great.  Flying utility is good, and I get she has good levels and starting bases for her level. But is that really all it takes to be great in a sea of lesser units?

Four of the bags have a total of 84 candies, the fifth contains four candies less than the average of the five bags. How many candies are in the fifth bags?

I don't know.  There's 4 bags with 84 total.  Combined, right? So... 84/4, I guess. so, there's 21 in each bag.21+21+21+21 is 84, but add another 21 and we get 105. the average of that is 21, minus four is 17.  That'd be my answer, but I don't think that's right. Because If I plug it in for the fifth bag, it gives me 101. So that's not right.  (I'm a college student and I'm failing at this.) Then again not all answers turn out to be whole numbers. So, algebra.  I think you use the substitution method for this one. Wait, 17 does not = 21. it is different by 4. Wait. The five bags have a total.  the four is 84, and then there's a total with the 5th one. so.... there's 84, take that away from the total. But what is the total? The total needs to be divisible by 5 to make the candies whole. So, in the bag, the closest number divisible by 5 to the previous total of 101 is 100. I use the total of 100 there because 105, while going into 5, does not match up with the "4 less than the average" 100 is a safer starting place, while also being a perfect square.  Subtracting 84 from 100 gives 16.  one off.  Well, the average is 100/5.  That's 20. 20-4 = 16.   It's 16.

I can't believe I got that.  But here's the real question: Why give all but one neice 5 more candies in her bag? That's not fair!

  7. I haven't flown on a plane in a long time due to expenses and college.  But If I had to recall any flights, I guess I never really got worried about turbulence or anything. The only thing that worries me now is someone doing some dangerous shit on the flight when they managed to bribe security with a Taylor swift album.  Yes, that's a horrible joke, but I have fears of that stuff happening.

And I guess I'd feel calm on takeoff.

  8. I was out there today. I was fortunate enough to live pretty close to the line of totality (I was around the high 90's, maybe?), and the eclipse, while not the most spectacular thing I've seen, was one of the coolest experiences in my life.  One of.  Not only did the thing last 2 and a half minutes (which is small) it may never happen again in your life time. Except by 2024. That prediction is... uh?  Next one, I guess. Anyway, it wasn't just the sun being blocked by the moon, causing a shadow to be cast dark enough to see venus and such during the day and looking at the sun. Around me, on the grass, the shadows cast by the trees in the partial eclipse were crescent shaped.  A completely different shadow was cast and it looked like a ton of half eaten Nilla wafers littered the grass.  In the totality, the trees were blending in with the dark sky.  The horizon was donned by an orange and purple glow.  The orb in the sky could be stared at with no damage to your eyes.  It was Totality awesome.  :Lilina:

It was a very neat experience.  I also got to look in a box and see the reflection of the eclipse in there, like they did in the 70's.  A cardboard box holds up with current technology folks. I've seen it all. Also, viewing the eclipse at the line of totality gives you bragging rights.  Kinda.

  9. Spoiler

    It is either Cousin because it replaces brother;

Cousin as it has no relation to clergy.  For instance: Sister can be a nun's title; A priest is called Father (His title) by all, aside from his own children, who call him Uncle in specific christian religions; A mother would be an Aunt to her children, same as uncle.  Cousin does not belong.

  10. Tip for lunatic: Fredrick Spam.  Also, speed is how fast a unit is.  5 or more than your opponent and you double attack.  Skill helps with most procs (activation rates) of skills like sol, Aether, Vengence, ect. I've never played lunatic, but grinding is almost neccesary from what I've heard and seen.  Get your Robin to have a defense boon

  11. Let me re-phrase the question.  Why should a fire emblem player know if someone is a "good" unit or not and how to identify them?  I kind of know the answer to this, but it's difficult for me to explain it.  A lot of times I like to encourage others in the community to use whoever they want, and play however they want.  I personally don't care about turn count, see.  After 3 years now, I've come to know what a good unit is and how to utilize one optimally, even if I still don't care about turn count too much.  For me, it's helpful to tell if a unit is good or not so you can have less trouble playing the games.  But I imagine some would argue that the franchise is relatively forgiving with resources and units to a point where this doesn't matter.

Again, why should a fire emblem player care about who's good and who's not? Why would it matter to know about growths and bases when you can, in theory, use whoever you like, however you like?

Dude, I think a ballistician would be a great ally both to control and to have support you, so he'd be perfect for this game.  And imagine having the ability to rain down large boulders and literal flame balls on enemy keeps...

That's what I think.  And people tell me it wouldn't work because it's long range only.  Uh... hello?  The thing has wheels?  if you slap some sort of magical gas pedal or gear on that thing, you can get it to barrel through enemies like a battering ram. Spikes in front and everything.  Who knows?  Just put jake in there anyway as a warrior, and have his special combo moves be the balistician stuff.  At the end of a combo/chain or whatever, he pulls the thing out and charges forward with it.  IT's not that hard to work it in there when these people made the harp from Skyward sword a weapon.  Come on.

  13. A lot of this stuff we're going by is just because of heroes.  Did shadow dragon do something wrong in translating the endings, or did the circumstances of titles and ending titles change with New mystery?  I'd like this to be translated as close to the japanese version of FE 12 as possible (aside from official names).  On the topic of the Fire emblem being referred to as the "Champion's crest" or whatever (I can't remember right now) why not just call it the fire emblem?  Calling it any thing else that deviates from the simplicities that SD's writing and translation introduced is just confusing and pointless - we have something to go by that makes more sense and is consistent.  Why not go with it?  Also, FE 12 is a DS game.  not 3ds.  I'd prefer it, personally, to be close to it's predecessor in more ways than one.

I may be really uninformed or I may be completely wrong and what I said makes no sense.  But I just wanted  to add my 2 cents and offer my input on this project (if it's still going)

  14. Guys, FE 6 RNG is like this:  2 25% chances, or 3 25% chances.  Which will hit more often? two chances or three?  Obviously the 3 chances.  There are more times that a low hit rate can hit.   Probability isn't always in favor of the player.   If you increase that 3 to 4, 6, or even 10, the probability of a hit landing will be much higher, even when random.  If it was fixed, 25% would hit 1/4 of the time.  But since it's random, it may hit 1/4 of the time.  With FE 6's low hit rates and high avoid rates, the accuracy is much more screwy, and leads to poor outcomes, regardless of the 2 RN system.   It feels like the RNG of the older games, but it isn't.

  15. I could have sworn I made a topic like this a while back.  Oh well.  Been a while...  *Ahem.

I have at least 1 Guilty pleasure unit for like every Fire Emblem game I've played.

    FE1 - Roshea

    FE 2 - Boey

FE 4 - Lester With Arden as the Father.  That includes using and promoting Arden.  How else is Lester going to get the killer bow and Pursiut ring?

FE 5 - Lara, and Hicks.  (Specifically, Hicks Claims the sety and baldo scrolls)

FE 6 - It should be pretty obvious who this is.  Hint: Under my name

FE 7 - I know people use Bartre if they want Karla, but he's not all that great.  But darn it, I love his character and it pains me not to use him sometimes.

FE 8 - Marisa.  (I like her character)

FE 10 - Lyre.  Kill me now, she is HARD to train.  But I like her.

FE 11 - Cord as a knight, Macellan, Roshea (again), and even Gordin.

    Spoiler

Macellan I find makes a great unit to specialize in speed or strength, depending on reclass.  I'm sorry, but if you are using him as a knight, you're using him wrong.  He's the only person who ever hit the Warrior/Berserker strength cap in my 50+ Playthroughs of FE 11.  Love 'em.

FE 12 - Belf.  Archer Belf.  I think Radd is cool too.

FE 13 - Don't really have one, because Everyone in awakening can be good.  I'm starting to try and use characters I don't normally use like Ricken and Libra.  I will never use nowi again, though.  she's... ugh.

Fates - Is Nyx Bad?  I see people say she's bad, but i don't see it. And also Felicia.  Felicia's one that is hard for me to pass up, even though I like female corrin more.

  16. If chapter 4 is giving you trouble, there's one tip I can offer that is a definite yes to do.

If chad hasn't died yet, Rescue him with Shanna/Thany, and carry him over to the fort directly south of Roy's starting point.  Drop him there with 2 iron swords and 2 vulneraries.  Fly back with shanna.  With chad there, he will not only block about half of th epirate reinforcements,  but he will also distract them for almost the entire chapter.  He gets quite the experience haul as well.  On the fort, he will likely never get hit, and if he does, he heals every turn.  The swords are so Chad never runs out of weapon uses to kill the pirates with. The vulneraries are for when you have to move off the fort to kill the ranged guys. Eventually there will be 5 left to deal with, and they all attack at range. Moving off the fort lowers chad's avoid, so it can't be bad to have some healing.

Employing this tactic grants chad experience and allows you to keep your focus on the nomads and cavalry.  Shanna won't be helping much, so she has time to ferry chad over on turn 1. The only issue with this is that it can be tricky to set up if you didn't manage your items in chapter 3 or buy new ones in chapter 2.

In dungeons you need to do it, sure, but not outside of it. You know, just like it says in the text you linked.

Oh, in case you didn't know, the effects of fatigue don't actually appear until after the fight, not during it. And since the world map cures fatigue - which you can't access in dungeons - it's only relevant when dungeon crawling.

In short: fatigue stacks up in dungeons, but do absolutely nothing outside of them. Eat an orange every now and then in the dungeons and all the pretty anime people will be fine.

Good.  I can do a pre-promote run with minimal grinding!  Now I'm hyped for the game again!

  18. 2 minutes ago, Thane said:

It's just what it says: fatigue has no impact outside of dungeons. It doesn't matter if your entire army gets exhausted during an overworld battle; as soon as you get back to the world map, everyone gets cured.

So.... there's no reason to cure fatigue?  The map cures it aotumatically?  If it does nothing to the battles in the world map, why even have the mechanic be shown in the "real" battles in the first place?  I tend to over-think things.  Sorry about that.

  19. I'd just like some clarification on how fatigue works.  I know that it reduces HP when the limit is reached, but is it just HP? For example, are other stats like speed or defense reduced as well?

"Fatigue can be reduced by consuming Provisions. It can also be fully cleared by exiting to the world map, offering any Provision to a Mila Statue or after a Class Change. Therefore, during non-dungeon battles, Fatigue has no impact."

What does this portion mean? (In bold) Does this mean that after fatigue is cleared, once you exit dungeons, the normal battles will begin with no fatigue on any character? What about the possibility of building fatigue with monsters in the dungeons before getting back to the world map?

Lastly, I understand that you can remove the status by consuming items and visiting the Mila statue, but what about just not having people in battles?  In thracia this removed all fatigue of those who were left out. Is this notion not present?  If so, what happens when you run out of items to consume or sacrifice to the mila statues?  Do your units just stay fatigued until they promote or the game ends?

I just want some clarification about this before I jump in to echoes.  I don't want to screw myself over in chapter 1 because I don't understand how things work.

    No story spoilers, please!

That's not how the overclasses work at all, first they seem to only be aesthetic because you need to be MAX LEVEL in the maximum class a unit can get, which by that point they would be overpowered anyway. They don't change anything, they don't make the game easier because if you want to access them you HAVE to grind, and by that point there's nothing that would stand in your way.

Second point, while grinding DLC is essentially a cheat code to remove challenge, it is for people who have difficulty trying to beat the game, if you don't need them there's no need to buy them so they don't affect you at ALL.

Third point, this game is a remake of GAIDEN, this is the farthest you can get from classic Fire Emblem and it really shows. While it can get a bit difficult at times, Gaiden is not what I would call challenging whatsoever, and rewarding gameplay is entirely subjective because people play FE for different reasons, some like the strategy aspect, others the character interactions, etc, etc.

While I don't approve the practices of IS regarding DLC I must say I like the look of most of these classes, and I'll buy a few of them even if they are unnecessary and totally useless from a gameplay perspective.

I understand.  More than I did, at least.  When I first heard about this concept I had no clue what it was or what it was about, so you helped clear that up for me. Thanks.  But my point still stands, though.  It's pointless to have them, much less pay money for something that doesn't do anything for you other than "overpowered, the game".

No gameplay enhancement other than looking cool. So, you need to be max level, by this I mean promoting at the max level in all the prior tiers.  Right?  I just don't get why they would waste their rescources and time of making this game into something that... does nothing for the player other than looking cool.

  21. I don't like it.  It's rediculous.  I'm not touchuing it, because third tier classes are already cool and extravagant enough. 4th tier is so overkill, this could make it the easiest FE yet.  Echoes is looking to try my patience more than it already has.  Extra class (and grinding to an extent) DLC for FE was dumb in my opinion to begin with, as FE relies on class balance to create a wholesome and challenging experience, but... 4th tier classes.  Challenge?  In a Fire emblem game? Now with 4th tier classes and ridiculous cash grab DLC that needs to fill in the gaps that the lazy devs couldn't do with their non-existent talents, Challenge and rewarding gameplay is a thing of the past!

     GO DLC, RIGHT GUYS?
