  1. Assuming overall usefulness, I'd go 40 HP. 28 Defense is good in just about any FE game, barring maybe Awakening Lunatic on a slow unit. Higher HP means taking both more physical and magical attacks. In Rinkah's case in Fates, no amount of defense could redeem her atrocious HP. If we're talking exclusively a physical tank, than maybe 40 Defense. However, this is assuming their Luck isn't also trash, as whatever damage done could be tripled.
  2. Use BEXP on a unit once they have capped a few stats. For example, a Soren who has capped lets say magic, skill and resistance and is nearing the end of his levels will not benefit much from further level ups. Bonus exp could get him to possibly cap other important stats like HP, speed, or even defense as it guarantees you +3 stat boosts (unless almost all of them are already capped). Units with no capped stats will benefit more from combat exp. Or dump some of it on an under-leveled unit that you want to use. Giving them a couple of levels could make it much easier to feed them kills without getting killed in the process. Or just not use it at all.
  3. Letting Titania get the boss EXP won't kill you. On higher difficulties especially, it's totally fine if not recommended since she isn't a bad unit. Though on lower difficulties I'd recommend not using her at all, as Oscar will have many more level ups to go through and can easily surpass her if not RNG screwed. RD is a different story though.
  4. You can't in FE10. You can only use master seals to promote to second and third tier, but never go backwards or to an entirely separate class. There aren't that many units that aren't comfortable in their class anyway. By that I mean you won't find any Subaki's trapped as a Pegasus Sky Knight.
  5. This is was hard, so much to choose from. Girls 1. Elincia: A young queen trying her hardest to better her country, despite having little experience. Seeing her struggle to remain strong and confident made her character sympathetic. 2. Leanne: Lovely character design. She's the right balance between sassy and gentle, kind of being a mediated version of her brothers. Her relationship with Naesala is also adorable. 3. Lucia: Her lifelong loyalty to Elincia is admirable, and she does it all while being calm and collected. Cool design, but not a very good unit. 4. Titania: Second in command of the Greil Mercenaries, she is there to support Ike in his times of hardship and give him help leading the mercenary band, especially in PoR when he unexpectedly has to take charge. 5. Nephenee: I would normally dislike the "country bumpkin" type of character, but she proves likeable in her shy and modest personality. Seeing Heather dote on her was amusing, and she also has a badass character design and good stat growths. Guys 1. Soren: One of my all-time favorite characters in the FE series. Cynical and rational, and not afraid to express this. His undying loyalty and friendship with Ike stands out more than other characters of the "extreme loyalty" type because of his harsh personality. Has a good backstory which isn't over dramatized to make players pity him. If you want to find out more about him, than you have that option. Doesn't care about his reputation, and says what needs to be said. Also a great unit. 2. Naesala: Does anything to benefit Kilvas, to the point of near-villainy. Almost always an ass, I even found it humorous at times. Again, him and Leanne are cute. 3. Zihark: His liking of Laguz due to his past tragic relationship gave him depth. He's not just a kind and accepting character for the sake of it, but actually has reasons for being so. Also is pretty. And one of the best swordmasters/trueblades. 4. Ike: All around badass, especially in RD. It's interesting to see him forced to grow up so fast, and see him turn into the leader that he is in RD. Is overpowered as shit. 5. Shinon: Ill-tempered sniper guy who hates everyone and doesn't give a fuck about it. Probably made me laugh the most out of any character. Is a great unit in RD. Screw dumping all of that exp on Rolf to train him. Honorable mentions: Haar, Geoffrey, Pelleas, and Oscar. Really like plenty of other characters, but I have to limit myself :,)
  6. Not weird at all. Plotwise it's very enjoyable, though while yes, part 2 isn't terribly exciting, it's so short that I've never found it boring in any of my playthroughs. It introduces necessary characters for later in the story. I enjoy having to complete maps with a smaller amount of units every once in a while. So really, I love all 4 parts. Gameplay in both games is great, and both pose a challenge. Endgame in RD raped me in my first playthrough. Though I'd say RD becomes much easier in subsequent playthroughs, as you know which units will do well in endgame. Radiant Dawn and Conquest both seem relatively ambitious, Conquest just fails in achieving that 80% of the time. Not that I didn't love the characters and the events that happen later in the story - it has its great moments. Radiant Dawn's story has a wider scope than any FE I can think of. Radiant Dawn is my favorite in the series, so no surprises here with everything I said. Conquest might be my 3rd favorite in the series, if only for the great gameplay and challenge.
  7. Second playthrough for both. I never use a guide to recruit units my first time around. If I can't figure out how to recruit them then they're getting offed. First time playing PoR I didn't know that he existed. After learning of him I assumed he was in RD, but almost never bother with pre-promoted units so didn't care either way.
  8. Radiant Dawn, as it is my favorite in the series for multiple reasons. -More difficult. I could probably beat PoR with my eyes closed -The tremendous amount of characters. This includes the shitty ones, as I still find it fun to try and give them a role on my team on subsequent playthroughs for "the shits and the giggles." I enjoy having like 5 potential trueblades, each with their strengths and weaknesses, to choose from. Same goes for Archsages and Paladins. Replay value is high because of this. -The expanse of the story. I loved how it told multiple stories at a time, especially across the different nations of Tellius. Gave you more perspective than you typically get in an FE game. Though some say PoR was executed better (I won't say I disagree... but I kind of disagree) RD had a multiple-faceted plot with enough going on to keep you preoccupied thinking about the story rather than predicting each and every event. I guess overall it felt more ambitious. -Great Soundtrack. I don't normally care much about this unless it really stands out to me. But of course... the support system is absolute trash. So PoR wins in that respect. For me, gameplay > story. I just happened to also enjoy the story in this case. All of that said, PoR is still my second favorite game in the series.
  9. An FE game being released on the Wii U is probably the only thing that would make me buy one. RD being my first favorite in the series and PoR being my second, I would be willing to drop a couple hundred for both the console and game. An HD remaster would be heavenly. A remake could go either way for me. As long as they didn't screw it up by trying to add modern mechanics like the pair up system (which I have no problem with, but would prefer it stay in new releases) or grinding. Also higher difficulties for PoR would be nice, that shit is laughably easy.
  10. I didn't have any problem with it this time, but if they keep coming out with several versions it could get annoying real fast. Guess I'd prefer if they kept it unique to Fates, just like how children should have been kept to Awakening (but look where that went lol). If they put all of their focus into a single game again I'd like to think the plot could improve, though I tend to doubt it; if they release only a single game again, I'd fear that they'd revert back to the generic FE plot formula because they wouldn't have an outlet (like Conquest or Revelations) to experiment with.
  11. Nohrian Noble, just for the skills. Hoshidan Unity is a good skill, but I find Nohrian Trust far better as you could potentially be supported by a unit with both a defensive skill like Aegis as well as an offensive one like Luna. Draconic Hex is also the master of all debuffs - throwing Corrin into a hoard of enemies equipped with a dragonstone and DH equipped can weaken all of your attackers so that weaker units can finish them off.
  12. I'd rank them 1. Conquest 2. Birthright 3. Revelations Conquest, while the story does of course have plenty of problems, actually attempted something new with the series. I liked some of the plot points, of which I will not go into because of spoilers. I found the last 4 or 5 chapters + endgame to be solid storywise. Conquest's problems lie in that the time in between notable plot points is just...irritatingly redundant. Corrin has the most depth, and despite my passionate hatred of this type of character (the I-don't-want-to-kill-people type), I actually felt his/her internal conflict at times, at least in facing the Hoshidan siblings. Gameplay wise Conquest is one of my favorite in the entire FE series, with my very first Fates playthrough on Conquest Hard Mode being very satisfying. To sum it up, nice story idea with shitty execution, but great gameplay and better characters. Birthright is a typical Fire Emblem game. It doesn't deviate far from the typical plot formula, with a couple of intriguing events yet nothing too horribly cringe either. I can see how someone could prefer this plot, I think for me after playing most of the series it just lacks appeal. Corrin is pretty flat here, doesn't feel much conflict and guilt in their decision as opposed to in Conquest. When the Nohrian siblings accuse you of being brainwashed by the Hoshidans, it feels about right. Gameplay was boring as hell, I found that Conquest hard mode poses more of a challenge (by FAR) than Birthright Lunatic with no grinding. Maps are the typical Rout the Enemy or Defeat the Boss objective, with not so interesting enemy positioning or map design. The characters are mostly enjoyable, also did I mention TacoMeat? The plot summarized: "Nohr bad. Me good." Revelations is, well... boring as fuck. I was honestly excited after playing the first 3 or so chapters after the branch of fate, only to soon be disappointed by a complete drudgery of a plot. Storytelling? None. My god the pacing is bad. Some maps are borrowed from both Birthright and Conquest, although handled differently. Overall gameplay is fine, better maps than Birthright but lacking in the difficulty from Conquest. Slightly more difficult than Birthright. Slightly. I hate the option to grind in both this one and Birthright (and FE as a whole), even if I don't use it. With lunatic difficulty on these two being as lacking as it is, I can't even imagine that normal wouldn't be suitable for the average player without it. But I digress. I understand it being there postgame in order to unlock supports, at the very least. In comparison to Awakening, I guess anything is more difficult. Conquest is the antithesis of Awakening, while Revelations' difficulty is similar to Birthright's.
  13. Saizo x Oboro Oboro rips his clothes off/ Saizo needs her to pick an outfit for him/ Oboro starts to ask the important questions... only for Saizo to confirm that Ryoma is in fact the person he is most loyal to. Marries her because why not, might as well give her a chance.
  14. Also going to have to wish for cross-generational supports. It feels odd that the first gens wouldn't interact with second gens, they all stand there in your goddamn castle all day. I doubt they just stare at eachother. Aside from that I'd like: Saizo/Camilla: not completely sure why, just want it Xander/Takumi and Leo/Ryoma: really just to see more of the royals interacting, as Revelations actual plot doesn't go in depth in how they interact almost at all. Reina/Orochi Niles/Takumi: just want to see the retainer of His Truly interact with the meme lord himself.
  15. I've found myself quite pleased by the new weapon system. Having played Gaiden, removed weapon durability is nothing new. I don't necessarily prefer it over having the traditional FE breakable weapons, but it's just as enjoyable all the same. I like that they added tomes, bows, and hidden weapons to the triangle as otherwise their avoid/hit rate ends up unaffected (as seen in Kaden's overall consistent ability to avoid all sorts of attacks from his use of beaststones, unless fucked by Fates' unpredictable RNG). I do however, miss the magic triangle. Also wish they brought back dark magic's ability to trump anima, and light magic's effectiveness over dark. Which of course would mean resurrecting a priest's ability to wield light tomes, which could again be effective against faceless. The addition of staves and hidden weapons which add debuffs I adore. I find it adds tremendous possibilities to my strategies, as well as forces me to act cautiously against those god-forsaken ninja in higher difficulties of Conquest. As long as your unit choice isn't shit, the debuffs won't destroy your team - assuming you're using an adequate amount of units. Nothing that can't be accounted for. Stat drops on silver weapons... also a good decision. I see why some consider it too much, however there are plenty of alternative weapons available through random finds, rewards, and of course through forging. It makes the amount of units who can go solo much more limited, as weaker units can't simply be handed a silver weapon/magic equivalent to fix their pathetic strength/magic stat. The decision to nerf javelins and hand-axes was a much needed one. In the hands of a competent unit, they can prove game breaking. Yes, I'm looking at you Awakening. Raijinto and Siegfried are overpowered. If either A) their weapon MT was lowered or B) the 1-2 range was reduced to 1, they wouldn't be nearly as OP. Omega Yato has one of the highest unforged MTs in the game, yet having limited range prevents it from turning Corrin into a mass destroyer comparable to Robin. I say this, but I don't actually want their range to be limited. Could settle for lower MT though.
  16. Before the game was released in North America, I saw the character profiles... and I knew what I must do. I wifed Leo up faster than Takumi can OHKO his enemies. Leo's personality is pretty perfect for me. I prefer the cold, cruel intellectual types that are calm and think rationally - not that Takumi is a bad character, he's well written - just not husbando material. Plus no headband. I'd like to believe I was loved back in the day before we knew we weren't siblings, so you can stop lying to yourself Leo [spoiler={option}] RIP TacoMeat
