Shiro - First impressions were decent. Seems like the kind of character I can dig and being a spear fighter's a bonus (Love the debuff skills they get). Haven't used him much though so judgments up in the air atm. His designs pretty good too. Siegbert - Same as Shiro, Haven't used him much so kinda hard to judge him atm. His design is okay, I think the hair looks a bit flat.

I haven't played the DLC where you find out how the awakening trio got into the fates universe yet but I assume that's the connection between awakening and fates your referring to? Or is it just that the ripoff characters are supposed "reincarnates" (from what I've heard) of some of awakenings characters? I have a feeling its gonna be in relations to the dragon gate of Fates or the outrealms gate of their universe. Considering the writing quality of both Awakening and Fates I wouldn't be surprised if it just that.

I was referring to the Fire Emblem franchise specifically. None of the characters in the previous games felt like clones of another previous game.

I've only done one run through of birthright and conquest and currently working my way through revelations atm so I haven't read alot of supports at this point but I shall give my 2 cents on my impressions so far. Xander - He seems decent in his support conversations but his reputation definitely gets a hit in his story involvement, which I did notice, especially with his unpopularity being vocally clear amongst discussions here and there. His commitment to serving his father did get me scratching my head considering how unsubtle Garon was with his evil intentions, I just thought at the time he was just doing it for the good of the nation and for fear of execution (just like the other Nohr sibling). In the end though I still would have preferred him as the protagonist than bloody Corrin (Can't wait for him to come around in this thread again, I've got an inkling to tear him/her into tiny little pieces). His celebration at the end of Conquest felt bizarre, considering that Hoshido was in such a wreck and all I could think was that Xander's gonna have to be prepared for another potential war what with the amount of people over there that'll want his head on a platter...But of course the hoshidan royals had to be all positive and happy about all this despite what happened to them. Realistically they would not have shown up to his coronation at all and they would be well bitter about the aftermath. It should have been a bitter ending with him questioning his choice to follow his fathers plans and feeling guilt over the hoshidans that died during the war. Damn, Conquests story was alot of crap. At least as a unit he was decent. While not as killy as Ryoma he was alot more durable in DEF, which along with Effie and Keaton made for a good wall that would not break. He could have used a bit more speed though to increase his killing power. Asugi - Literally a character who should not even exist. When I first saw him along with NotTharja Rhajat and NotCordelia Caeldori in leaks before its release I was not happy to see IS stoop so low into Awakening pandering (Not helped by Inigo, Owain and Severa's inclusion but at least they WERE the actual awakening characters and not "original" characters). I can't recall ANY other game in the franchise that has done this and I could not buy that these characters were they're own character. Gaius 2.0 from what I've seen so far REALLY wants to remind you he likes his sugary snacks and it really started to annoy me. I did like Gaius in Awakening as he wasn't all sugar and shit, He did have other traits to go along with that and they were pretty good (I just wish he did better as a unit. Average growths did him no favours). I just cannot acknowledge him as a character and I'm glad he wasn't that popular in the character poll. Hopefully that'll discourage IS from doing this shite again. And pandering to a game thats not even that old...Cmon IS, your better than this. Leave it behind and let Fates be its own thing.

When it comes to judging pairings I've always judged based on chemistry, excluding any gameplay benefits each one gives. I mean hell isn't that kind of the point of favourite pairings?

I was recently looking at Chrom's supports to determine which one worked best for him and Sully's was definitely the best for him. Being childhood friends with fond memories made for good chemistry in comparison to some of the weaker ones (I'm looking at you Robin).

It's a neat little feature. I like additional flavour text to bring out more from the characters. I quite liked the shop quotes too and I got a kick of satisfaction from those critical quotes. Makes that moment ever more sweeter when you really need it to get out of a tight situation.

Seeing this glitch reminds me of how much this game really wanted you to ship Sumia with Chrom. I imagine in this scenario the game is like "You married Maribelle Chrom? You wanted that sharp tongued aristocrat? You sure you don't want the lovely Sumia over here? She bakes pies!" Odd that it just happens with Maribelle, reminds me of the glitch with cordelia and rickens S rank with Robin where they don't have his proposal music.

As a character she's rather eh but gameplay wise she did pretty well for me. For my one grind per mission run (with no pair ups) she performed pretty well, bringing alot of magic damage and turning her squishiness into a nasty weapon via vengeance. Growth wise she was pretty consistent, getting her magic, skill and even defence to a good value, keeping her from being a pure glass cannon (which olivia and cordelia ended up being). I was impressed at how much killing power she had without the pair up system to utilize.

I reckon for his proposal the story one Chrom gives to Robin after Chapter 11 was better. Hell I didn't even know about the alternative proposal he could give until I heard about it since all my runs had him paired up long before this event.

For my first time round I used it on Kellam to keep him on the frontlines, Otherwise on my current one grind per mission runs I've given it to Olivia for good mobility and survivability and i'm currently debating who should get it on my current run.

I would suggest adding a 3rd option to the poll for those in the middle about Chrom. Speaking of which, I would be mixed about him. While he's not as dull as some Lords from previous games he doesn't stick out enough for me, and it didn't help that he was overshadowed by Robin storywise. He does have some moments though in his Supports (NOT including the horrendous FeRobin one), That one was a shocker. Apart from that he's definitely in the middle, ain't gonna top Ike for me anytime soon.
