Hell, even if it did, most Camillas are likely out of steam already.

Kinda doesn't matter at this point.  There were so many multipliers this round I have a great score and will likely do better than I would even losing the 500 feather bonus.  I have nothing against Ike and happy that his fans get to see him defeat the waifus.

But I can't help but wonder how my Lady Lyn would have done if not cheated out of victory at the last minute.

Anyone else surprised that Ike is going to win?  Path of Radiance came out almost a decade before the 3ds games, and Radiant Dawn did not sell well.  Also, anyone who would like to play the aforementioned games will have to part with ~$100.

Not at all, remember he was only up against one 3DS male and is a very popular character even given the amount of time.  Plus, Camilla was far from the most popular character on the girl side.  She needed the multiplier to get into the finals.  I think Ike went into the finals the clear favorite.

As a member of the former Team Summer Leo, and to a lesser extent the former Team Lyn, I still like the multiplier and am glad it was implemented.  Without the multiplier, we'd be having curbstomps like Lucina/Camilla still, and I absolutely hated both those gauntlets because of the sheer predictability of them (as a member of Eirika/Ephraim in the former and Subaki/Minerva in the latter).

At least now, I can't say with 100% certainty that the finalists will be X vs Y with X as the winner from the outset.  If I already know what's going to happen, why bother other than feathers?  There's no excitement, or suspense, or anything, outside of one exception that I didn't even participate in because I am devoted to best girl Eirika.

Also, the multiplier was the one reason the only character I consider a favorite in this entire gauntlet stood a chance of even beating his first opponent.  Even though we still lost, unfortunately, I can't help but appreciate that we at least had a chance to win.

Why bother now?  What's exciting about telling the team that has more supporters, you lose because of a mechanic you can't in any meaningful way plan for or control.

Frankly it would be more exciting if we bet on the outcome and just rolled dice to see which character wins.  Divorced from popularity or support, what's the purpose of the "game" other than gambling that your personal strategy can net you more feathers.

For example, I switched to team Camilla and I am near certain to wind up with many more feathers than I would under Ike.  Is that the point now?  Just feather maximization?

Why are people saying that Lyn would beat Ike when we just realized after the last battle that votes don't matter and the end result could easily come down to multipliers? Also, Ike did receive more votes in the CYL Heroes poll.

I don't like Lyn or Ike, and I always thought Ike's fans, and Lucina's fans, for that matter, were super obnoxious. But no, after seeing how this gauntlet went, Lyn easily has the most obnoxious fanbase of them all. It's almost as though they think that sit on some sort of high horse and look down upon anyone else who like another lord character.

Again, saying this as someone who doesn't particularly like either. Just something I noticed.

Lyn's fans had the gauntlet stolen from under them.  We don't know who would win in a match of Ike v. Lyn and we may never know.  The game didn't let the team who actually had more supporters win.  It's not really that difficult to understand why people are upset.

So really, whether Ike wins as expected or Camilla gets a double steal it really doesn't matter as there is no competition here anyway.  This 'contest' wouldn't be any less valid if we pulled names out of a hat.

So...., how could we have avenged Lyn other then destroying Camilla again?

Removing the multiplier so the character that deserves to win, wins.  The villain in this gauntlet is not Camilla.  She was just the receiver of stolen goods not the thief.

The multiplier is fine by me, and is going to stay.  It allows units that don't have a chance to remain competitive.  Did you see the results of the first gauntlet, pre-multiplier?  It was a massacre.  It might need some tweaking, so that people (nerds) don't sit on their feathers until the late multipliers, but it's fine.

I've seen a lot of Brave Units on my teams.  There are usually at least two on the battlefield.

So?  Why is that a problem?  It's still a massacre now.  It's just a mechanic comes in and takes the victory away from the other team so that people find it more "exciting".

The score Ike has reminds me of Lyn vs Lucina, where Lyn had a score to be higher than Lucina, but not cause her to get a multiplier. I do hope that is the case with Ike vs Camilla.

There looks to be at least one more multiplier; maybe two.  Ike is about 60% to the threshold and Camilla has slowed.

Finally won a match after having to surrender two in a row earlier. -_- I used 100 flags to try making up for it...

Besides wanting to further show the multiplier for the fraud it is, I joined Camilla because I had a 4* and a ton of feathers.  I promoted her, dragging her back to level 1.  I got her to the twenties and then stopped.  I always get a level 40 friend that makes almost any match a snap.

Wow, some people seriously need to chill. I know I get frustrated at times when I'm on the losing side, perhaps too frustrated, but I don't think I was ever as bad as some folks in this thread. :/

    But YAY IKE. <3

No, everyone.  Your hate has made you powerful!  Give into your anger.  With each passing moment you make yourself more Camilla's servant.

It's not like there is any strategy in no-multiplier matches. Everyone uses up their flags and that's the end of it.

Right, there shouldn't be any strategy.  Players who play the most rank highest and the team that has the most supporters wins.

Now it might as well be random.

Dissapointed that it's likely that there won't be Ike vs Lyn for the final round. Also because I expect there to be even more division regarding the multiplier, backlash and Camilla becomes more disliked upsurping Lyn. Although I'm wondering why Team Lyn went crazy with the flags. Did they not expect the multplier, overestimated their chance to get a multplier for themselves and underestimate how much points Team Camilla would get? I don't like Camilla but her team was wiser in planning (and exploiting a flawed system imo). .

Wondering how Ike vs Camilla would pan out.

The thing is, thousands of players can't play strategically together. Besides different languages, time zones and the like, this game also puts you in competition with your own team.

This is why the multiplier is such BS.  You can't play to it because your individual efforts don't have enough of an effect.

  12. 4 minutes ago, JJ48 said:

Right.  Just like how Lyn's victory was guaranteed.

The way the multiplier works, popularity of a character is almost meaningless.  In fact, the more popular the popular character is, the less likely they are to win.

Look at the graph of Lyn vs Lucina.  The characters were fairly evenly matched, so after the first couple hours, Lyn never achieved a lead big enough to trigger a Lucina multiplier.  With Camilla, Lyn is considerably more popular, leading to a steeper graph and multipliers more often.  If you had an even more popular character, the graph would just get even steeper and trigger that many more multipliers.

Yup.  Ike being so popular will probably mean his team only gets a couple of multiplier rounds early on.

  13. You know Lyn losing to the multiplier isn't so bad, but what is really annoying is that there is literally no way for players to have any effect on the outcome.  I was hoping that Camilla got her multiplier 3-4 hours ago but it had to happen at the last minute.  With thousands of unconnected players you can't use any kind of strategy because your individual efforts hardly matter.

    Ike's victory's not guaranteed, because

A: We don't know who Lyn and Hector's fans will go to.

B: If Camilla won by the multiplier once, she can do it twice.

But Lyn didn't get a Multiplier.

I'm switching to Camilla.  I suspect she'll have more multiplier rounds and since this whole game mode is a joke, why not troll.  It would be nice to see Camilla win twice.

So... what can I do to try and get Lyn's victory? I've got prac tomorrow, so I'll miss the final clincher...

In the next few hours, Camilla will get a multiplier.  After that hour, we'll have a better sense of what to do.  If Camilla cannot do more than barely take the lead, then we know there will likely not ever be any more multiplier hours for Lyn.  At that point it's safe to use your flags, although you can save them as well for Ike.

If Camilla cannot even close the 750 million gap, then I think the game is won and you just need to play as you will.

If Team Camilla improves on our score from that last multiplier and Team Lyn falls back down closer to her hourly average, We might be able to score just enough to give Team Lyn one last hour with the bonus.

I'm hoping we succeed so let's go!

It's looking like Team Camilla might not be large enough to build much of a lead even with a multiplier.

  17. 59 minutes ago, Ice Dragon said:

Your example is pretty easily countered.

With the multiplier, kind-of-close matches (<20% size difference) turn into snore-fests where once the larger team takes the lead, they'll have it forever, but it makes matches with greater size differences more interesting due to having multipliers more often.

The comparison to make was that previously, every match with more than about a 5% size difference was a snore-fest because the winner was basically decided and no amount of rallying by the smaller team would be worth anything.

Essentially, it's a trade-off where more matches will be interesting and fewer matches will be snore-fests because it's much, much harder to engineer a bracket where all matches are close matches than it is to put any eight characters together and watch them go.

I don't see how the multiplier existing is any more artificial or arbitrary than having to hand the ball off to the other team if you fail to advance 10 yards in 4 plays.

I guess the problem comes to this.  I do not find anything interesting in a rigged match.  So I reject your premise that the multiplier EVER makes things more interesting.  In my opinion it does nothing but inject an arbitrary and capricious element that you can't even work around because you have no meaningful way to affect the others on your team.

So for me, the multiplier fixed something that didn't need fixing.

Regarding your football example, that is inapposite to this game.  In football you have one team trying to advance the ball against another team trying to stop them.  Failing to advance 10 yards only comes because the defense stopped you.

The multiplier would be more akin to if you manage to advance 30 yards the other team gets to take the ball back 25 yards of your progress away, because reasons.
