  1. Please do, Saggin, I would be glad if you could. ^_^ There is a form in the 5th item in the first post to fill which could be easy on you. (Also it allows you to keep some "anonymousness" in the sample sending if that is your wish) As for the process, I work with a spiral-methodology-based model for agile software engineering. Basically I work with small goals in time, and start to work along the way, testing always in a fixed amount of time to avoid bugs and conflicts. In a while, when I go trough 3 other tasks in my task record(Should take 2 weeks according to my calculations, if my real life stops flooding me with work for a while at least. XD) the next task after that is nicknamed "Auditions"; SImultaneously with the Map making and event script flowcharting, there will be both the script revision, and auditions. I will pretty much gather a small team and judge based on it, out of the samples we have, who fits which character, and after each character has like 2-3 names linked to it, we go to the said names and then we try talking with actual script text(And since they will be using the prototype for the script, the VAs will have a say in how the script will flow, no one is going to speak what they don't believe in. :)). Having only weekends available shouldn't pose as a barrier to the process, considering the whole process won't be done in a fixed amount of time, just from that point in my expectations onwards. So there will be more than enough time believe me. :)
  2. Good to know so many people are interested. ^_^ @Lumi: It just helps to show how much you know your pixels, don't you agree? :) @BwdYeti: And who says that work is going to waste? :) Having a good personality description is never a bad thing, I will look for some way to reward your extra effort. :) @Grip: Well, factoring in the official list of people that got in the hack with the list of people @Agro: Darn, that is one sweet idea. Too bad someone picked Bard already. :( Gonna repass said idea on, though. ...well, dancer is still available, and it would be funny to have a male humming dancer at least. XD @Clipsey: The link works just fine, thanks a lot for the contribution. ^_^ If you feel the need in a personal level to send any new samples in the future, use the same form ok? Just fill in your username, clips, and answer the rest randomly, I will know it is you. XD Also, updated list: Assassin Berserker Bishop Druid Falcoknight General Great Knight Hero Mage Knight Paladin Ranger Rogue Sage Sniper Summoner Swordmaster Valkyrie Warrior Wyvern Knight Wyvern Lord Gonna have to repost this in other forums as well. Thanks a lot for all contributions so far, and also for those that are still working/planning to. You guys make this possible. ^_^ Also, this is the list factoring in all the class claims here, considering the class pick for Grip was berserker(Just for illustration, again I don't support this one list): [spoiler=List I don't absolutely in no way support] Assassin Berserker Bishop Druid Falcoknight General Great Knight Hero Mage Knight Paladin Ranger Rogue Sage Sniper Summoner Swordmaster Valkyrie Warrior Wyvern Knight Wyvern Lord It actually surprises me no one got Swordmaster yet. Not a bad surprise, though. :)
  3. @DualSIlverGunner: Well, there is no need for one to be the spriter of his own half body, so there is no need to prove one's skill. The form is only for finished works I am afraid. :( You could send it at most a unfinished prototype of the half body and stuff, but I can't work on guarantees of skill, I need to work based on finished works. Hope you understand. :( Plus you wouldn't need to prove your skill, I honestly think you could pull it out, so. :) If it helps, once again I will be saying this, if the search is high enough I might be allowing a second character of a class when I am done. And while I don't support this officially, you guys could organize with eachother and "claim" spots(Say I want to for example make a druid, and ask no one else to make one.) This way there is no way the class you want will be taken before you take it, so I think this is the best way you have to assure that no one will take the class you wanted to. Sorry I can't be of more help here. @Clipsey Kitty: Please do, I will be in need of many voices for little-talking characters. ^_^ Thanks a lot for considering it already. :) @Lumi: Thanks a lot Lumi, I did forget to update the first post. :) *Goes to do so in all 4 topics* @Bryan: No you didn't, it was my fault for not making it clearer. The first post will be updated with those links. Hope my mistake didn't make it hard on many more people. And the sooner the better, that is the key here, to claim the spot. But no deadlines have been set on this yet because I am still developing some of the technologies on it, so it could take a bit of time until it is moving faster than it is now. I have some other ASMs I need to finish before making the more "usual" stuff, and to test my older hacks(And check for conflicts with the newer ones and all that jazz, you know the drill) But as much as possible I will try to make sure there will be slots for characters available, the more people in this project the better. ^_^
  4. @Camtech: Thanks a lot, Cam, and not to sound unfair or biased, but... Let's just say I like your voice, so you might be hearing from me when it is time. ^_^ @Ether: Thanks a lot for the understanding, and the kindness of writing for me. Really appreciate it. ^_^ Also here is the list of classes that are already picked, and thus can't be picked again. All of the forms that sent thus far for characters have been approved, thanks a lot. ^_^ Hero Mercenary Sniper All the other classes available in the game "Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones" are still available though: Assassin Berserker Bishop Druid Falcoknight General Great Knight Hero Mage Knight Paladin Ranger Rogue Sage Sniper Summoner Swordmaster Valkyrie Warrior Wyvern Knight Wyvern Lord Also once again, unpromoted classes are possible, just not recommended. ^_^
  5. @Grip: There isn't much secret, the theory has been around for a while, I was just the first(And only to date, as far as I know) to implement it. It basically affects how mugs are loaded and deleted, it is basically that. Adding the second palette was a bit harder, but it was more of a group of small good ideas together than a full revamp. I am just proud on how professional it looks in the end, to be honest. It took work, but it could be easily the first hack I have ever done which I am actually happy with. Hence why I want the tech demo to be done with, so I can release the patch with half bodies/VAs for FE8, along with one of the technologies which I will be developing for the hack(Picked in a poll after I am done). Which means this is a hack that is going to be released, in hopes it gets surpassed in the future. :) After done with that I might go back to being a puny and simple hacking consultant, unless of course the demand for a continuation is good enough. But only time will tell. :) @Lumi: Thanks a lot for the fine feedback, honestly, I study business management in school so I am honestly addicted to it. XD Feedbacks of any kind are welcome here and in any of the sister topics. :) @Ether: Will do, and sorry I didn't know your usual username, but Serene's was never my first lurking place of choice, so sorry. ^_^' And regarding your voice, it has a "je ne sais quoi", as you put it it does match a more villanic, or at least "gray" profile of character. In a funny coincidence, IMHO the last of those clips, the speech as you put it, was one of the best sources of data for your voice. It is pretty clear and manages to have a singular weight, I know I will seem repetitive by saying this but it sounds "gray". Please make reference of that when you fill in the form for voice actor inscription, ok? :) One of the wittiest uses for my forms came in the form of a certain person in my list writing her whole profile as a VA, and then in the field "Samples" just writing "Available in the post". That is totally valid, in case you don't feel like reposting those links, and actually a witty way to do it. The forms are to keep all data through-out all 4 forums organized, but in no way it is meant to demand more work from you guys, hope it is understandable. ^_^ @SFC: Please do, I just hope it can be as fun for you to work on as it was for me to idealize and manage this. Your interest is what keeps this going. :)
  6. @MarioKirby: And I appreciate your offer of support, this hack grows with contributions, and your support helps this more than you believe. ^_^ Hope we can live up to your expectations. ;) @Trent: I say that she is sexy enough to be my personal maid! ...err, what! Did I say that out loud? Darn, hope my GF doesn't see this! XD But yeah, one of the main issues I will be having for my hack is the spriting of Generics for houses and stuff. I will have like 5 houses/villages in the map in the current plan, but I only have 1.5 halfbodies of NPCs ready for this task. Obviously I will be making more half bodies of generics as we go, but considering I am also making the main enemies for the chapter, and the ASM hacks and event sheet and the custom battle sprite for the lord and the management and direction of VAs and stuff, indeed that is not the easiest of tasks on my lap. XD But again, she could also fit in as a character entry, honestly, if that was what you would be interested in posting as your character entry. But again I didn't make a specific sheet for that, but I accept entries for NPCs as well.(Was going to save these words for when slots for character were rarer, but regardless will be saying this now.XD) So your pick, I will be honored with your submission if you send her as either. ^_^ @Joe: Nice voice, I consider your voice matching for a Knightly attitude, really. :) Again, thanks a lot for taking interest in this. I thank already everyone that already filled in the inscription sheets, in record time as well, it makes everything more organized on my end, so I really appreciate it. ^_^ BTW, guys, might have some more info on the chapter released anytime up to this weekend(Then a mid term week, and then ASM work. Love my schedule. :3)
  7. @Tourguide: That is a great question. It is like auditions for example broadway plays, you have to read out something you a) know well enough so you trust your words or b) read something which you believe does make your voice stand out. Of course, anything applies here. Even LPs and Streams and any other form of link which features your voice, even in daily situations. No need to create content if you have it already, and also no reason to demand for example shakespeare reading from VAs, don't you agree? :) @Jealousy: I am glad the system I picked for the subscriptions is to your liking. ^_^ And please, by all means, have fun spriting. :3 @Joerachi: The list of classes will be the same as the one available in FE8. Albeit I will feature in the hack Xeld's patch for multi weapons, and my personal hack which shows all 8 weapon types in a single unit, so the hack would in theory support that. Maybe a really outstanding provider of content for the project in the future might earn through hard work a custom class(if of course all others in the project are for it, justice for all), and said class could feature both say swords and anima. But even then, since this unit would have MAG being shown as the damaging attribute, it isn't optimal IMHO either. Sowwy. :( On the other hand, there will be some interesting gameplay changes in the project that should compensate for that, and those are under development right now, stay tunned. ^_^ @Kitty of Time: Much like it will happen with Music people, ASMers, Event Scripters, Hacking Consultants, or any other person I might recruit in the future for a specific position, all invitations like these will go trough me personally. So don't worry about it at all, ok? :)
  8. @SCF: Good pick. ^_^ Then again, I personally would recommend an armor class or an axe-wielding class. I personally see Druids as a relatively common class for people to pick. While summoners are less common, but I think we might get one in the future. Of course, you can do anything you want, I too love to play with concepts of characters never done. :3 @Lumi: That is another great work, congrats. :) Since you're now officially the second spriter that used my system the most(before only myself. Obviously. XD), how is it like to sprite in it? The two systems, for extra colors and for different heights, are they hard to use? Are they helpful? Feedback for me is important, always. :) BTW, regarding your samples, I rather like them. Remind me of the voice for my own GF, so even out of the fear of sounding biased due to that your voice is interesting, honestly. :) Also, nice pick for text. ^_^ @Bryan: Thanks a lot for the kind words. ^_^ Would you be interested in providing something else to the hack, like perhaps joining our voice actor bank? Then again, just your kind words were a lot of help for the project. :) @Octavian: Heh, perfect timing then. XD Use the sheet I am about to post for the next attempt. :) Also, announcement, the character and voice actor sheets are finally here, so inscriptions are officially open! :D Sheet for Characters: https://docs.google....ktMOWc6MQ#gid=0 Sheet for Voice Actors: https://docs.google....oOEltNFVLV0E6MQ Use these to subscribe your characters. The character sheet has a field for the graphics, and the voice actor sheet focuses also on forms of protection to Voice Actors' identity. Read them if you guys are interested, and thanks a lot already for all the support. ^_^ All people that already have their graphics ready have an upperhand on creation of characters I admit. XD Keep in mind, for now at least only a single unit from each class will be picked; You can pick unprommoted classes, but it isn't recommended.(Not like it will make such an world of difference if you do though.) Also, any feedback on those sheets, or anything, use this or any of the sister topics. This project works on the philosophy of continuous improvement, so any form of feedback is an opportunity of growth. ;)
  9. Wow, that is Bizarre, Taku! :o Maybe it could indicate something about the RNG system got screwed up, and it is using the internal clock for the RNG instead of playing around with numbers a bit, which could mean the same outcomes over and over. If that happened at least it should be simple to fix, so don't worry, just test it over to be sure.. ^_^ And this is a great project, honestly. This reminds me of what hacks should be in the end, they should remain fun to the players and the authors alike. And this project is also open to earnest feedback and uses that as an opportunity to grow, instead of being defensive about those. In this sense it is an example to be followed, you have a project to be proud of here. :)
  10. @DualSilverGunner: You know what, that is what I love about projects like this, when they somehow help us feel like stretching our limits. In a sense this is the main idea behind this whole project of mine, stretching limits, doing what I never did before and going for something new and unique. You being so willing to try to do something like that is quite exciting to me, the thought that my hack could be giving someone motivation to break a limit. ^_^ It would be more than ok to have your work in my hack, it would be a pleasure. :) @TourGuide: Soon enough I will be posting a sheet for those who want to join up as VAs, and be ready for the character auditions. It would be grand if you could join. As I stated before I think I will be having tons of fun in this project coordinating all that. :3 @Lumi: Saved. And don't worry, I know what is like to mess up yer' layers. (Ever since that day I save copies of my files with layer-enabled formats just in case. XD) @SCF: Do know this, SCF, this topic wasn't posted on SF alone, I have also posted this same topic in 3 other forums(This is the most active topic of all of those though, I do admit it. :)). This project's goal is to capture the attention of everyone who could be interested in an FE Hack, and if you're here posting your interest I do believe it also includes you. ^_^ I understand if you think it wouldn't feel right, but I honestly believe you're also a part of the target audience of this topic like everyone else here. Plus, do know that the hack will have space for many many different characters, I am not thinking of a limit of slots, only the "1 of each class restriction". :) Plus, if it helped your decision process, you could sprite for a class which people tend to not pick too easily(Something like spriting a Warrior, a Dancer, Wyvern Knight, Berserker, General.) You could even wait a bit, see what doesn't fill up, and go for that. I just want to be democratic here, and in democracy everyone is equal. ^_^ Regardless of your final decision, thanks a lot for even considering to join, as I stated before I feel proud of this interest alone already. :)
  11. @Lumi: Glad you liked it, Lumi, all the credit to that goes to you and Vamp though. :) Also, sorry I didn't make you blinking frames, but the rules I set for this project forbid me of altering anything but rogue pixels in the source works, so yeah. XD @SCF: Then how couldn't I feel honored with a new member posting for the first time just to bid my project good luck? Thanks a lot for your support, and welcome to this place. :) Please, if you feel you can't sprite that well(Trying it is always a good way to know for sure though, as long as you don't get too disappointed in case you can't), at least consider joining this project in another specification in the future. :) And thanks a lot again for your support! @Arch: Oh my thanks a lot, you don't need to worry with deadlines for now, so tell Astelaine to have fun while doing it. ^_^ Oh boy, I surely have to get finished with the character sheets ASAP, people's interest here is really heart warming. ^_^ @Kai: The credits to those go straight to their respective authors. Indeed, we have some great artists here no? :) Also, the video I tried posting in the last post, only I didn't have enough rights to post more than one youtube video in the same post. XD
  12. @Anti-Social Kitty: That would be awesome. ^_^ If you can provide both a character and a voice, voicing your own character is actually a very sweet thing to do. I know I recommend everyone to consider that. :) @Cam: That is very interesting, that could be useful indeed. :) Did you take part already in a project that involves the voice like a LP or a Stream? Because I *think* I might have heard your voice already. @Jealousy: Thanks a lot for reading it all, it means you rock, since I can't blame anyone for not doing it. XD As for the style, if you have any suggestions please by all means share, criticism is always appreciated. :) @Rey: You speak like you weren't one of the top names in my list to begin with. ;) @BWD: Yes, I understand, I tend to like restrictions as well, helps you to overcome limits when you work with restrictions. ^_^ And to be honest I did think it was originally meant for FEXP and then extended, with the markings in the clothing being more common in a height that matches the format of portraits used in it. Oh, and thanks a lot for being this efficient. ^_^ @Agromono: That would be very interesting, someone with your talents could easily be useful. ^_^ And yep, the hardware imposes so many limits on us that it is nice to find our way past a few at least. X_X And yep, as Astra eloquently put it, this will be an FE8 hack with some twists. Hoping this hack can work as a landmark, specially since after I am done with it the system I use for Halfbodies and voice acting will be released for the public. So anyone can try to overcome what I did. ^_^ @Lumi&BWD: There we go, as I promised the first two bodies inserted, so you can see how they behave in-game. ^_^ Hope it is exciting to watch that. :) (And can you blame him for not knowing? XD) @Astra: Nice, what a great design choice, dude. ^_^ I will be honest, I was thinking you were going to join with a paladin or the like. XD Nevertheless, thanks a lot for the interest. :) I need to create the character insertion sheet soon, the artists are more talented than I hoped they were. ^_^ EDIT: Oh, announcement. Here is proof half bodies aren't the only ASM here: (Youtube)/watch?v=Ovhx6HDmM5Y
  13. I just wanted to report a glitch on the Pool up there. There has to be a glitch on it, I can't possibly see someone pressing no for that question here on purpose. XD Seriously though, Nintenlord, with this post I just wanted to once again thank you for all contributions you gave for this community. You're the kind of person that I would say, this community would be very different today if you had never popped up. And I think even the people here would be different. And in that I don't mean just regarding hacking. So for that I salute you and your work, and your landmark contributions. Specially with your very awesome notes released now this topic deserved more than a simple pin. Maybe a subforum of it's own would have been more fitting. ;)
  14. They do know what they mean, I have already managed to find out why those specific chapters work with MNC2 and others don't, and to be honest it took a considerable research and an ASM hack to do so. The reason why there are so many issues with chapter skipping is not the world map, but the random battles the game has, you will see what I mean if you do more tests. And there is data on how the world map events work available. But even the Event Assembler doesn't support them too much, for custom chapters your best bet would be FE7 unfortunately. The solution 404 suggested isn't bad at all, but if my memory isn't wrong there was an issue with that specific approach latter on, hence why I had to use an ASM hack instead. I could be wrong, that hack of mine has like a year of age. But the learning curve for FE8 is greater than 7, until the last time I hacked it. FE8 is more powerful in more ways than one, though, so if you know what you're doing FE8 delivers more than FE7. Based on my experience and maybe even personal bias at least. And mary, use an offset without the 08 in front of it. Like, if the pointer is 08 XX YY ZZ use just XX YY ZZ as the offset.
  15. @Kitty in Time: Just give me time, for this week I am still snowed under stuff. In college I am the guy that helps my friend's work, which means twice the work on my end. XD @Trent: As soon as auditions start you will be one of the first contacted, believe in me on that. I say this without any hint of formality, thanks a bunch, yo. :) @Elinicia: Oh Anna will be among the ones to be voiced, believe me. :) Thanks a lot for being this interested in helping, by all means I feel honored for that. :) @Amelia: To be really honest there is a NPC character which could in fact use a engrish female voice...but I digress. :) Regardless, thanks a lot for the excitement and will to help! :) @Lumi: The description of your voice actually strikes me as the same as my GF, and I really love her voice. And thanks a lot for the summoning spell. XD @Sakukitty: Thanks for coming, and don't worry there will be more than enough time, don't worry about making time too much, for the last thing I would want is to push. :) Also appreciate your interest in my humble project. ^_^ @L95: Thanks a lot for that. ;) @Bwdyeti: That was rather fast. :o Nice sprite, the style strikes me as Vamp's, but hard to tell for sure since I never saw you spriting mugs, so. XD And there will be space for a concept like yours(Which I rather like), when I do release the character sheet there will be fields to define which will be your main attributes. And as for mage class you can pick any class of promoted mage in FE8, which does give a few classes to pick from. :) Also, your half body has exactly 16 colors, and is FE7-colored. Wouldn't you be interested in considering the use of the new systems Variable Height and Double Palette? The 4th chapter of my initial post discusses those(In a hopefully not boring way as well. ^_^) Oh, and since you were the first one to post a half body and so fast, if you have minimug and talking/blinking frames ready, I could post a quick video of your mug in the game. ^_^ I will be doing that in the future to every one character that gets accepted, but in your case I will do an special one in thanks for your speed and pro-activity. :) @Rey: I can imagine, thanks a lot for being such a thrust-worthy friend. ^_^ And believe me, if my current plan works out, there soon might be another breaktrough for this hack that you may get a peek at if you want, and that will be secret to the world until it is rendered glitch-free. XD @Agromono: The main issue I have in this hack now is getting enough characters to form a sizeable party. You can imagine, since again half bodies take more than twice the work of a normal mug, and there isn't something like splicing to resort to speed things up with the lower half of it. Also to get voices for all of those characters and all of the NPCs that might appear in the hack will be also challenging, so I focus on those first. But later I would be interested in hiring helpers for hacking, so some tasks would be lessened for me. Since I will have to insert every single sound clip and work as a director to those, and also will need to work on some extra ASMs I have in mind for this, and text and numbers, I could indeed use any form of help, specially gracious offers from cool people, in fields like music and hacking. :) @Clipsey Kitty: So many kitties. XD If you can support us by letting people you know know about the project, I will already be more than grateful for that. Just your support in posting here alone already helped more than you think, so far it has been more of a pleasure than anything near a hindrance, and thanks a lot for your interest in this already. :) @Shaldow Stalker X: That reminds me I will need a battle sprite animation soon enough too, fudge. XD Errr, I mean, if you really don't have the time, than thanks a lot for finding some time just to post here to show interest in this project, I feel grateful for that already. Really hope this project can live up to your expectations. ^_^ @Jealousy: Don't worry about speed, as I said character entrances aren't even happening yet, so you will have more than enough time. ^_^ Plus I do that whenever I sprite, so I can relate. XD Also, while you are working on your half body, have you considered using the 2 new systems, Variable Height and Dual Palette? More info on them on the 4th chapter of my post, think specially the latter can be useful for your spriting. And the 4.2 section in special might help if you have any style doubts. I understand it is a lot of text there, but better to sin for excess of text than for lack of clarity, so. XD
  16. @Seph: Good thing you show interest Seph, to be honest you're part of the reason I even thought of Voice Acting for starters; Watching so many talented people such as you and MageKnight404 and Oblivion Knight and others made me wonder "What hack could I make to use the potential of the community to the fullest?" And when I thought we have talented voices, it just clicked. :3 Inb4u ask for royalties for the idea I will be more than happy if you could contribute in any way possible. :) For now this topic is only a teaser, but for the near future I will be already doing some of the work related to this. This is more so you guys have a notion of what I am brewing than a public request for content...for now. ;) @Lumi: I appreciate my humble project manages to somehow excite you. ^_^ As for VA, I indeed recommend that everyone consider to at least voice their own char if anything, it will be good to give a more personal touch to the project. :) @Octavian: I am glad you are excited for the project, and indeed we shall talk soon enough. :) Auditions should start as soon as I am a bit more free, and I will have spots open even for generic guests in houses, so I recommend anyone to try out. :) @Astra: Why thanks a lot, dude, it was more work than it was worthy, until I stopped being stubborn and just started anew. Sometimes starting from scratch can be good, no? :) And I would be honored if you could contribute for my humble project. :) @Amelia: I am glad you feel this way about my humble project, Amelia, if you can also consider being the VA for at least your character. Regardless, I will be really looking forward to anything you could contribute. ^_^ @Kitteh: Call me Ryru, no need for formalities. :) And as of now not really, this is currently a "project awareness" topic. The deadlines will be defined as soon as I have some free time IRL. As soon as I post the character and VA sheets, you guys can start to enter. But believe me, as I said in my abnormally huge post, I believe in lax deadlines, so don't feel rushed please. :) @Rey: Lol, you're one to know just for how long I have been hiding this. XD Once again, Rey, I would be truly honored if you could contribute in any way. :) @Jealousy: Not yet, but believe me it will not be exactly free; To assure diversity I plan on being draconian, and making it so that excluding Falco Knights, all classes will be allowed a single unit, and at that it will be the first one to get accepted. If there is a good enough number of characters, which would mean a good case scenario, I might increase said limit to 2. All will depend on how things will play out. Keep in mind it will be an FE8 hack, so that will assure a great number of classes to pick from. :) One thing is to be said, right now there will be no character sending, simply because I am too busy to handle those sheets now, but when I do post the sheet, then subscriptions will start, and the deadlines will start to appear. I haven't finished all ASMs I have planned for the hack yet as well, which will also affect the deadlines positively(Since it will be my deadline as well). @Furetchen: It will be an honor to have an actor like yourself among the options in my hack. :) And screaming is good, very good, no joke. There might be a few text-heavy parts for the hack, so I might need someone skilled for them. I thank you already for your interest in joining. ^_^ @Luffy: AKA I am the guy that always hides the gold, in that you're right, but I personally don't see myself as such an outstanding hacker; I am only able in a field many don't venture in, that is innovation, while in more routinous tasks I tend to be mediocre at best. So this hack will also be a learning experience to me. :) Regardless, thanks a lot for the inspiring words, they mean a lot coming from you. :) @Joe: (Then I get to be on the crappy tier of that list. XD) Worry not, there will be time for the deadlines. :) And I want as much people as possible in, I don't mind working extra in picking people for the non-character parts. The really tricky part will be to coordinate all that volume of text, that you can be sure of. Never dreamed of being a movie director, so it will be challenging in a great way. XD @Arch: I know how your voice sounds, Arch, worry not, it is an honor you took an interest to my project. Please, if possible be also consider adding a character in(There is no rule against having someone doing your sprite for you, credits will be clear in the hack), and again, I think I will have fun at the audition stage, really think so. :) @Kitty of Time: Now wait a minute, who said no maps are needed? :D I might have a huge request soon enough for a single epic map, you know. Thanks a lot for the interest in my project BTW. :) @L95: Why do you say that? No spriting + Voice Acting skills? Even then I think you could contribute. If you can let your friends know of this project, I think that will be more than enough help. In fact, the fact you shown interest in this is already more help thank you think, thanks in advance for stopping by and posting. :) Thanks a lot to everyone who has posted here, and keep on posting. Will keep you guys tuned to any further update. :)
  17. This topic exists simultaneously in the forums "Fire Emblem Shrine", "Fire Emblem Café", "Serene's Forest", and "Shrine of Seals". All these will be checked in a regular basis, and announcements will be made in all of them. No other copy of this topic in any other place will be supported until stated otherwise. 1. What it is. 2. Why should I contribute. 3. What can I contribute with? 4. Appendix - Of Mugs and Half bodies. 5. Character and Voice Actor Sheet. 6. Miscellaneous Disclaimers: Protection specially for contributors. 1. What it is: [spoiler=Click here to read] FE:FoD will be in simplistic terms a short 1-chapter vanilla hack. Also, it is the consequence of a challenge I made myself a few months back, of making a hack with the biggest standard of quality as possible in a single chapter. While I am not aware of the future after this hack, if it somehow helps to set a positive tendency of search for quality in hacks from this point onwards then I do believe it has reached it's goal already. This hack will also feature most to all of my notorious hacks, and a few people never even heard of. My plan is to prove mostly myself the true impact of the joining of Assembly hacking and good game design, in the creation of something concise and, most of all, fun. :) 2. Why should I contribute: [spoiler=Click here to read] While I can't talk on each individual wish to contribute, I do believe, with modesty aside obviously, that this hack will work as, even if a minor, a landmark on FE hacking. It will be a challenge to make, the planning of it alone was challenging, so this "Small and paradoxically megalomaniac" project will be hopefully exciting for everyone in it. Also, for those that are already working in a hacking project, I can assure you all that what this project will be requiring mostly is beyond the scope of anything you may be doing for another hack, so it won't conflict with your work in your project. The only really complex contribution will come from the character contribution, and even then it won't conflict with content you will be offering other hacks I believe. Also deadlines will be hopefully lax enough for it not to become a burden on the contributors; They are the soul of this project after all. I know it may sound like "an individual hack I am publicly asking content for", I mean for the most of it I mentioned "my challenge", "my wish", "my hacks", but I see it differently; Were it just an individual project it wouldn't have as much worth as it will have being a public project. So I am not only asking for content due to being unable to do all on my own, I am asking it because if I did do it on my own, it wouldn't be as legit, as valuable. Without the fear of sounding repetitive, contributions are the soul of this project after all. :) 3. What should I contribute: [spoiler=Click here to read] As I promised in the last section, the actual contributions will be quite apart from the usual things asked by hacks. Albeit I might have use for what most projects do need at one point in the future, what I will need mostly is: - Characters - Voice Actors Here is an example of my system working with those two requests in. Please excuse my poor VA skills in that clip, but it was just a test. XD(And yeah, I have that accent naturally whenever I speak in english) Anyways, off to the specifics of the submissions. 3.1. Characters: First, I want characters in. I want people to submit their own personal characters with custom information, like they would for any hack. Unfortunately due to the short nature of this hack very little of your character will be able to be developed, but even then a group of cool and diverse characters will be important for the end result of the hack. ^_^ Here comes the tricky part, the only subscriptions for characters that will be accepted will be the ones that feature the graphics of the character. And I say more, not the mug, but rather...one of the main innovations of this hack, the half body. Here are examples of some done half bodies that fit in the project's specifications, along with number of colors in each. Half bodies need to follow some rules, much like our mugs do. For more info on Half bodies, consult the differences in the "4. Appendix - Of Mugs and Half bodies" section. To send in a character, just fill in the sheet that comes in the end of this post. It will feature a system I call "Attributive Tendency"(Instead of submitting numbers submit me tendencies to work with), and some fields with text and some questions to answer. In a generic way, I will be accepting a single character for each class(Keeping in mind it will be an FE8 hack, which features tons of classes). For a spot to be considered yours you have to be approved, and for that you have to send in all data, including half body. Keep in mind, of course, that once it is approved it can be changed at will.(Until it gets inserted, of course. Still, should take a small while for that.) 3.2 Voice Actors: For those unable/unwilling to contribute with characters(And hopefully also for those who do help with characters and even then want to help more. Thanks in advance guys.) I request this help with another of the innovations of the hack; I hire Voice actors. As some of you might now, one of my most recent FE hacks enables for sounds to be played during specific points in conversations, and another innovation of mine enables sounds of a higher length than the insertion limit we had up to now. All of that allied to the fact I will have a bit over 16 mbs free for the insertion of sounds in the rom made me come to realize one thing; I can't tell it exactly right now, I will need more testing than what I have done so far, but if my preliminary math isn't wrong, this 1 chapter could be fully voiced. The amount of text in a regular FE chapter, divided by characters that actually do talk, also makes this pretty a reasonably low effort to do for all but a couple of voice actors. For each person offering to be a VA, I would ask which gender they can voice, and how many "different voices" they can make(Specify if you can do it for both genders). Also, a short clip of the voice(s) would be preferable, but that doesn't need to be posted, and could instead be sent to me in secret, if you have any qualms about making it public. I thank you already for taking interest in contributing. :) 4. Appendix - Of Mugs and Half bodies[spoiler=Click here to read] 4.1. Basics of Half Bodies: If you're willing to contribute to this project, I believe you must be used to the concept of mugshots, or portraits, or face sprites, depending on the person writing about them. As you most likely know, they are great, our community's spriting orbits around them a whole lot, but they have a very tight structure: 15 colors + background color, it has to have a maximum of 10x8 tiles + 2 lateral boxes on each side of 4x2 tiles(80x64 pixels + 2 boxes of 32x16 pixels). As for half bodies, the numbers increase a whole deal. One box of 18x8 tiles with two lateral boxes of 12x3 tiles.(144x64 pixels + 2 boxes of 96x24 pixels). To make it more visual this is the new box of spriting death! As you can see, the darker area in the upper part of the half body corresponds to what used to be our mugs in the past. So the space which was earned with half bodies was something else, don't you agree? :) Also, it introduces two new concepts, variable height and dual palettes. 4.1.1 Variable Height: [spoiler=Click here to read] Variable height consists of the fact that not all half bodies need to be the same height. As you can see by this model I did when I finished the variable height systems(A few hours before I finished the whole Half Body system in fact, the body isn't even there yet.) the height of the mug goes down by 8 pixels(1 tile) for every 1 point of height of the half body. The speech bubble also accompanies it, so the whole thing works pretty smoothly. The lines under the box of death hint that, you can start from any of them to make your own, no need to make it from the bottom line. As a rule of thumb, I caught myself spriting tall people by using the whole thing, normal people by using 1/2, and 3 down I would only recommend for abnormally short or children/old people. If the person has a head piece like a hat or just a big hair you tend to add 1 extra tile as well. 4.1.2 Dual Palette:[spoiler=Click here to read] As for Dual Palette, the name is suggestive enough I believe; Since there will be lots to sprite in the half body, and it could be tricky to accomplish with a single palette for the whole thing, you will have 2 palettes at your disposal, one for the higher half, one for the lower. So what consisted of the old mugshot will have a individual palette, and the rest will have a brand new one. I believe this will serve to increase the colorfulness of our works(As in, you can for example have an eye color that is a unique color to the whole of the mug and still have enough colors for the body for example), so I believe this can be useful. Bear in mind that if you don't want to think about this or find it too complicated, you can just sprite your half body with 16 colors; A considerable share of the examples I posted here use 15 colors + Background.(Due to an old habit I do 16 colors even for halfs and even full bodies... Yeah I am weird. XD) So if you're able to deliver inside of those bondaries, not using more than 15 colors isn't an issue to the slightest. :) While the sound of using two palettes is something else, realistically I believe rare will be the situations that a mug will manage to have more than 19 colors thanks to that; That being said, the possibility of this brings to spriters a possibility I think will make the challenge of making a half body more bearable, and, hopefully, fun. :) So pretty much finish your mug with those specifications, send it over like that and, if it fits those rules, passes a quick quality control and your character is accepted, soon enough you will see a video of your half body in-game. :D ...oh! And don't forget, this is still FE, so be kind and don't forget the minimug! It is part of the charisma of FE obviously. :) 4.2 Intricacies of Half Body making: [spoiler=Click here to read] This chapter discourses a bit about the actual making of half bodies. The reason why I have disclosed many half bodies I have done in the specifications I presented was to give a parameter for spriters to follow. Not obviously a rule set in stone(In art there is no such a thing after all, and spriting is art), but as a parameter to follow in case of doubt. The main "issue" that projects with many different spriters face is the style differences, and I believe those are impossible to avoid without abusing some boundaries and vandalizing the work of the original artist. After you get some experience, it is pretty commonplace to be able to "guess" the original author of a work based on his style alone. I believe that those who can do it already do know what I am talking about here. Since I believe having many artists is a good thing, instead of a bad one, the style differences might bother a handful, so here I will be discoursing a bit about the style used in the works over there, and I respectfully request those either spriting from scratch or adapting an old work for this do take these words to heart while doing so. Oh, and before I begin, while I will state this again in the disclaimers, I will make it clear now; As soon as a half body is accepted for a character or an NPC in this project, it will not be changed without permission. Only exception will be a unperceptive color decrease(Like two very similar skin tones, a common aftereffect of splicing), any other modification will be informed to the artist beforehand, and will be postponed until his/her doing/approval. Hence why it is important to let these guidelines clear in beforehand. :) So here are some guidelines I will put here to make mugs more standard. On Heights: Ah, heights. The issue I believe affected us the most when we had the old box of death to worry about was what I call "Box Stretching Syndrome". More commonly than not I saw many spriters trying their best to use the limits of the Box of Death to the fullest. To be honest I congratulate those that did it, since some amazing works came out of experiences such as those, but I do believe this isn't something we have to worry here. ^_^ The last pixel of the hair hitting the top of the box was something usual, for example, but in these proportions it will hint a veeeery tall person. Although it is tempting to make your character tall by going all the way up, we ought to keep in mind that if we keep the tall people say, 3-4-5 pixels away from the top, then everyone will be tall, and then there will be space for those that have history reasons to be exceptionally tall to be so, like berserkers for example, by going all the way up. So whenever you make a character and see that you're hitting the top pixel, please consider making him like 4-5 pixels lower. :) Any doubts, just use the provided mugs for proportion reference, keeping in mind the first 2 halfs are meant to be considerably tall people. Cut line: Those that are savvy on human body proportions will notice the torsos of all bodies posted are shorter than they would be in a full body. Specially if you compare to say the Official Artworks of mugshots in all FE games, the torsos I made will strike as specially short. The cut line for half bodies is a bit lower than the waist line, giving a hint of the hips. Some characters more, some less. Out of experience, FE9's Half Bodies do offer a good base for the spriting of half bodies, since they also have shorter torsos. But the hint for the body would be considering making it a bit shorter to get the extra pixels mentioned in the former topic(And also give a hint of some sexy hips. :3) Coloring: This hack will be using the FE8 color system. All rules that apply over the color and style for FE8 apply here, including the "Border color is your friend" rule of using border color even within the mugshot. Reason for that pick is that out of my experience as a spriter you end up using colors in a more intelligent way when you have the possibility of using more saturated shades such as FE8's. Keep in mind that while saying that, not all mugs needs to follow the FE8's pick for the dreaded and seriousness feeling. You can also make mugs colorful mugs that look more like FE6 and 7, and use some more "anime-like" hairs and the like, this much is more than open for the artist. :) All I humbly request is the bias for saturation, and the scheme and border for FE8. ^_^ Again I say this, these are guidelines to help to normalize style, so not all works stand out. This isn't to say what is right or wrong in spriting, I am not nearly egocentric nor good enough to say anything like that, it is just so all works, even among others. The other style differences I haven't discoursed here are something in fact I am not only not going to work to normalize, but also I am interested in seeing them in action. :3 5. Miscellaneous Disclaimers: Protection specially for contributors. [spoiler=Click here to read] ALSO UNDER CONSTRUCTION, WILL BE JUST LEGAL-LIKE MUMBLE-JUMBLE. So use this topic to talk/ask about anything about the project, and also show any possible interest. :)
  18. Hopefully doesn't sing the crashman song on his shower.
  19. Just to make it clear, as long as the chapter isn't the prologue or the first chapter, any character with the supply flag will be able to act as a supply. Regardless of the chapter. Even in the creature campaign, yesh.
  20. When you load a map, you're loading what we call a chapter. Each entry in the chapter editor module is a map. When you load a map with LOMA, you're in a sense changing the current chapter to a new one(Even in the memory a new chapter number is stored, really, if you never return from a LOMA, the game will keep on running the events of the new chapter, instead of the chapter you were before it.) That being said, go to the entry in the chapter module that equates to the map you're loading with LOMA. And there define the right tileset, palette, everything.
  21. 1. Elincia is correct. Try redownloading the module pack to see if you can find it. If you can't, I could perhaps share with you my copy of it. 2. That is because not only you need to assign a spell to a ranged weapon, in the case of axemen you need to tell them to use their custom sprite for throwing axes. Refer on any guide of custom sprite making to see the format of a custom animation, and then find the axeman's animation lists, and add to the list of possibilities your new Axe(s). 3. The weapon of the summon is random, based on an array in the game we don't know the offset for. Thus, without knowing said offset it is impossible to give it a different weapon than one among what, 5 axes? That will require some debugging to found, unfortunately. I am sorry but it hasn't been discovered yet by us. About patches: Yes, if both patches aren't going to conflict with eachother, and considering Nintenlord didn't use any free space for his ASM hacks, it is very possible to use both of them in the same rom.
  22. Yep, like that bit that Rey posted from my notes specify, it is very simple, all you need to do is to change that condition check. Keep in mind that it will work for the whole of Lyn mode if you use those offsets. Those aren't checked in Hector and Eliwood mode. if you want your Kent and Sain seizing for the whole of Lyn mode, change that one. If not, you could do like I did in my FE8 hack, and get rid of the "different check for each mode", making a single check for all 3 modes. Without ASM, however, it should be impossible, I am afraid. :( If it is that imperative for you to have them seizing, then either Rey or I could come up with a solution, if you wait for some moment we have free time of course.
