"That Mage ain't right, I tell ya hwat!"

Very impressive! Makes me want to go shopping for propane. And maybe a coupke propane accessories, while I'm at it.

Anyway, just gonna suggest some combination of Wendell, Wrys, and Frost. Since they're all old men who do magic. Surely, they could give us something better than Nomah's support with Celica, right? ...Right?

Nagi and Xane could definitely work. Also, while I'm here mentioning Nagi, obviously the four maidens come too later to support anyone at all. Though I guess their singular recruitment partners are pretty telling of who they would support.

Damn, just realized that Matthis can't save Lena. I feel sorry for the guy. He's the most forgettable Cavalier, even to his own sister.

Nagi-Xane-Tiki could be another triangle. Also, kinda weird that Barst doesn't triangle-support with Bord and Cord, when they have a triangle attack together.

  3. I think Tomas could work with Dolph and Macellan, since they were all imprisoned together. Make it a support triangle.

Athena and Ymir could be good, too, since they're both "outsiders" in their own way.

Roger-Xane would be great, with Xane pretending to be Princess Shiida. Seems like the kind of prank he'd be into.

Finally, Nagi-Tiki and Samto-Navarre seem pretty obvious, given their respective similarities.

  4. Hm... I do like the idea of fusing! There are a few questions I still have, however:

    - Would Fusion happen inside battle, or outside of it? Like, the canon fusions (i.e. Kyurem Black, Dawn Wings Necrozma) occur outside of battle, and each takes up one slot. Would your proposed fusions function this way, or would it be activated mid-battle, like Mega Evolutions?

    - Similarly, would there be any limit to Fusing? Like "only one Fusion on a team at a time", or "each Fusion requires two party slots"? Or is it a free-for-all?

    - Is "Venusaur fused with Blastoise" identical to "Blastoise fused with Venusaur"? Or does the order of operations make any difference?

    - Split evolution lines could present a problem. Like, if I tried fusing Gloom with Chansey, would I get "Blissey-Vileplume"? Or "Bellosom-Blissey"? Or, in such a case, would Fusion simply not be allowed?

    - Is there a specific, bespoke list of "Fusions" that are possible to do, like with Mega Evolutions? Or would two Pokemon be fusable regardless, so long as they share an Egg Group?

I definitely think Fusion is a super-interesting concept. But with how many Pokemon there already are, things could really get out of hand in short order!

  5. Oh man, thank you for the reminder about Mage Girl Day! It's nine months away... that should be just enough time to put my Micaiah cosplay together. Assuming we all make it through the end of the world, that is.

The .org wiki has a short paragraph about this:

The term パレス Palace is used to refer to a city in Japanese, but the English localization interpreted as referring to the building specifically, hence the localization of "The Palace". When necessary to refer to the building, the terms パレス城 Palace Castle, or sometimes パレスの王宮 Palace of Palace, are used.

Other than 王都パレス the royal capital of Palace, terms used to refer to the city are 聖都パレス Palace, the holy capital and 黄金の都パレス Palace, the golden capital.

パレス has traditionally been translated as "Pales" (a Roman deity) in fan translations, and the term can indeed either be a transcription of the English word "palace" or a transcription of the name of the Roman deity "Pales" (along with an asteroid named after the deity, 49 Pales).

I was wondering about that when playing, too - if I read "Pales" in an English text, I'd assume that it's pronounced "Pails", but as a German speaker, "Pah-less" sounds perfectly fine, too.

Interesting, good to know. I didn't know the kanji for "castle" or "palace", so I wouldn't have necessarily picked up on that. At the same time, when we see a chapter titled

It's no surprise that パレス was interpreted as "Palace" by fan localizers. Incidentally, if we ever get a formal localization of the city's name, I'm hoping for "Pallas". That would keep the Greco-Roman theming - as "Pallas" is a title for Athena, among other meanings - while also having a more intuitive pronunciation.

Crazy how we had two games about the dangers of centralizing political power in the hands of the few, and they follow it up by... centralizing power in the hands of one. But it's okay, Marth's a good guy, right? Completely unlike Hardin, who was... a good guy... before the Darksphere corrupted him. Hmph.

Elincia also dons armour when becoming a playable character where previously she wore a dress.

Worth noting that this portrait change only occurs in Path of Radiance. In Radiant Dawn, she's armored from start to finish.

Ike gets a glow-up in both games, while Micaiah and Sothe only get their glow-ups (glows-up?) in the sequel.

Their models change quite q bit if you get them promoted. But this change isn't reflected in their portraits.

Would be very cool for a Tellius remake or remaster to include portrait updates whenever a unit promotes. But it's not generally the case in the games as they exist.

Archanea's holy capital of Pales is currently in the middle of a mysterious silence.

If I recall, there's been some debate over whether "Pales" was intended to be the name of the capital of Archanea... or instead, simply the word "Palace". Like, chapter 12 of SD is titled "The Ageless Palace", or in Japanese, アカネイア・パレス. "アカネイア" is "A-ka-ne-i-a", or "Akaenia", which became "Archanea". While "パレス" would transliterate as "Pa-re-su" or "Pa-le-su".

If that's the way they wrote "Pales" in the original game, my assumption is that they're just referring to the Palace. If I wanted to name a city "Pales" - assuming it's pronounced like "two pails of water" - I would've written it as "ペールズ", or "Pe-e-ru-zu". That said, I haven't played the game in its original Japanese (or at all LOL), so I can't say how they wrote "Pales" to begin with.

Why you limiting yourself to just 80s Astro? Uran was in the 2003 version too (not sure about the 60s). Though, despite her seizable role and screen time I wouldn't really call her a protagonist. Still, 2003 Astro Boy absolutely rocks.

Because the 80's series is the only one I've watched at all. So I know Uran's role in that one, but I wasn't sure how she figured into any other adaptations.

Oh, that one is pretty cool. I love when they do this, ATLA (while neither is THE main character, Katara and Sokka are in the main party and show up in pretty much every ep so I'm sure that counts), Gravity Falls, Over the Garden Wall, Loud House, are few exemples I can think of this, and all great shows.

I can't believe I missed Gravity Falls! I was even rolling around its daughter series - The Owl House and Amphibia - in my head, just to conclude they don't really fit. The Loud House came to mind, although that one's a struggle because, while any one of the sisters can be a "main character" for a single episode, it's hard to say that any one of them is a "main character, all the time".

    1 hour ago, vanguard333 said:

Oh, yeah; Sokka and Katara are good examples as well. I guess I just didn't think of them because, as you said, neither of them are the main character. Incidentally, I've long thought that, if they do make another sequel to ATLA, they should give the avatar an ordinary sibling that is their greatest ally.

Hm... or an ordinary sibling that comes to resent growing up in the shadow of the "golden child", the Avatar? Maybe one of each? I think there's a lot that could be done here.

    2. Stories with two main heroes who are siblings

I find it weird and a bit tiring that, whenever siblings appear in popular media, they are evil siblings the vast majority of the time. There is a ton that can be done with a story where the siblings are main characters that are on the same side, yet the only examples I can think of are Edward & Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Asta & Yuno from Black Clover.

Since we're on a Fire Emblem forum, I'd be remiss not to add Sacred Stones onto the list.

If you're referring just to anime, though... yeah, I'm having a hard time thinking of any I've watched where two siblings are both heroic main characters. Maybe 80's Astro Boy, if Uran is counted as a "main character".

First of all, why is it even called Blazing? Well the only possible answer is that the chapter where you get the Durandel in Binding Blade is referred to as that, and I don't get that either! Sure, the chapter has fire in it, but you don't see the blade go up in flames like you do with, I dunno, the Binding Blade.

This part, I agree with. Why is Durandal called "The Blazing Blade"? It has no visible affinity to fire. Closest I can think is the fact that you acquire it from an active volcano. Still, I think a name like "The Gleaming Blade" or "The Piercing Blade" would be just as appropriate, while avoiding any confusion with the Binding Blade. Y'know, the sword that spits fire?

15 hours ago, Shaky Jones said:

There have been multiple runs where me or people I know straight up never use the darn thing! Why even bother!? And if I've learned anything about FE7 players, it's that nobody plays Eliwood mode after their first run. In other words, the Durandel doesn't even matter in your eyes! You still get the thing, but based off the lord you've been following, you're more excited about Armads, but the game isn't called Fire Emblem: Fire Dragon and Axe of Lightning, is it!?

I'm gonna disagree here. Sure, the player doesn't get to make much use of Durandal. Even when acquired, its atrocious weight stat doesn't help its case. However, it has a story signficance, as you mentioned.

    Spoiler

The Sword is what slays Ninian, in her Ice Dragon form. In so doing, it replicates the violent conflict of the past. Man against Dragon. The scars from the past reopen, and rapprochement between the two kinds seems an impossibility.

Bathed in the shadow of Ninian's death, and filled with guilt over what he's (sort of) done, Eliwood gives Durandal back to Athos. But in the final hour of battle, he takes the Sword back up. Just as Nils will aid his friends in spite of his grief, so too will Eliwood. A better future is possible, but only if they work together and make it happen.

So, yeah. While I wish Durandal had a different name - one whose initials weren't also "BB" - I think it's story role has enough thematic significance to make it a titular object.

Nope, it's a "hot potato". Only the last one holding Armads is in trouble. Try to bring an Axe user you don't care about to the endgame of FE6, just in case.

Obviously it's meant to parallel Binding Blade...maybe theres' something going on with Ninian being revived when slain with Durandal, and Idoun not dying when slain with the Sword of Seals.

I think Ninian's revival just came down to "Bramimond is magic". Perhaps he had an ersatz Aum Staff? Regardless, I don't think there's anything special about Durandal that would "preserve" Ninian. It's not as though he extracts her from the blade, or anything of the sort.

  12. I wonder - would a far-off-into-the-future sequel to Three Houses even need to canonize any particular route? The four routes have some key commonalities - they all see the continent united into a single political entity, Teach always survives as a major influence, and both the Nabateans and Agarthans broadly displaced from their positions of influence. A "centuries later" sequel could lean into these commonalities, without explicitly stating which side won. Maybe a successive ruler of a united Fodlan saw continuing tensions over the war, and instituted a heavy-handed "damnatio memoriae" in an attempt to pacify and unify the people?

Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude might be mythologized as "friends who all saw flaws in the status quo, turned enemies based on their disagreements on how to change it, leading them into a bloody war where came at each other's throats". Teach could be "the stoic teacher whose belief in their students turned a tragedy into a new beginning for Fodlan". There could still be individual "cults" or "churches" associated with each figure - and maybe a revived (?) "Church of Seiros", too - that are all fighting this sort of "history war" with each other.

What I think could be an interesting direction, though, would be to really push into the direction of magitech. There's already a decent amount of this in Three Houses, with stuff like the Titanus, so I think the setting is ripe for completing a full on magepunk future with automata, ornithopters, magic laser swords, and so on. I'd be down for that sequel as well, even if it would be very different from my original idea.

Hm, perhaps Morfis could be the center of this "magitech" industry? We obviously never get to see it in vanilla 3H, but we know their country to have a strong association with magic. It would make sense for them to develop new spells, as well as magical weapons, and even more advanced versions of the Golems or Titanus. In any case, having a plot that visits Morfis, Dagda, and Albinea - or whatever their names are in the future - would be a welcome expansion to the world of 3H, IMO.

  13. It's not my favorite in the series, but I think Sacred Stones is the game whose theming I'm most clearheaded about.

    Spoiler

I think it's about dealing with loss. The game is about Grado invading Renais, and the imminent ressurection of the Demon King. But much more than that, it's about a brother and sister who lose their best friend. Lyon was driven to despair by the loss of his own father. And, in seeking to reverse it, he unwittingly unleashed evil onto the world, and began to lose himself.

Likewise for Orson - an honored knight becomes a traitor to his prince, all to bring back the woman he loved. But she's not really back, and it doesn't save him - his eye circles grow darker, as he continues to live in an illusion.

Cormag loses someone, too - his brother, Glen. This turns him into an antagonist, as he seeks revenge upon Eirika. But he's not all-consumed by it - rather, he's able to reason. It's this hesitation that causes him to realize his presumed enemy isn't all that bad, while his seeming ally is the one truly deserving of his wrath.

Eirika deals with loss early on, at hearing the death of her father. She could remain in the relative safety of Frelia for as long as possible. But instead, she decides to take the future into her own hands. Motivated not by vengeance, or cruelty, but a desire to ensure that her own brother isn't lost to her as well.

Speaking of which, there's Ephraim. He's more subtle, responding to allies-turned-enemies with either anger or cold stoicism. But this, too, can be read as one of the responses to loss. When he sees that Orson and Lyon are truly lost, he mutes his emotions, and turns into a soldier. To fight them as a prince, or a friend... that would break his heart.

Just my thoughts here. I don't believe they're totally original to me, but I can't recall exactly where I may have heard them before. There are more examples I could give, but I think the list above suffices.

  14. One question worth asking is, "how big is one tile, anyway"? This seems to vary from game to game. Or sometimes between chapters in the same game. Like, in the Archanea games, one tile can be a small forest or mountain. ...Or a single door, chest, or throne. It would be weird for an Elephant to take up multiple tiles outdoors, but it'd be just as bizzare for it to be confined to a single tile indoors. At some level, disbelief just has to be suspended.

Anyway, my preference for Elephants as mounts would be that they're puppy-sized elephants. Just big enough to fit one rider, and take up one space. Likewise if we get Rhino, Camel, or Alpaca riders. However! If Elephants are being fought as enemy monsters, they should be 2 x 2. Just make 'em massive, give 'em a second pair of tusks, maybe a third set of legs, or a clubbed tail. Make it clear that what we're killing is something different from real-life elephants, but is instead a novel monster heavily inspired by elephants.

...Maybe call them "Nastodons", because they're so nasty.

  15. Some ideas, mostly going with voice actors who have already worked with IS:

Dew - Sam Riegel. He already voiced Donnel and Stahl, and I think he'd be good on a youthful character like Dew.

Beowulf - Keith Silverstein. He voices Saber, and did a great job of it in Echoes. Beowulf has a similar personality, I'd say.

Charlot - Veronica Taylor. She voiced Manuela, and Micaiah (in Heroes), so why'd I give her a little boy? Well, she was the original voice of Ash Ketchum to English-speaking audiences! If she can bring that voice back, it'd be great for Hannibal's young ward.

Deimne - Ben Diskin. He's very versatile, having already voiced Lorenz, Caspar, Jakob, and Saizo. He could definitely give Deimne a voice that stands out.

Daisy - Deva Marie. She voiced Flayn in 3H, and it's a miracle she survived her kidnapping. As for Daisy, she comes with the Miracle skill! I think her voice can be whimsical, but also serious.

Should I get the 30 hp and 12 defense first or should I hold off until after I start grinding for intermediate seal skills

I would recommend going for the certification first, if it's not a huge skill rank detour for the unit in question. They can start working towards the Intermediate skills at any time, whereas after more level-ups, the stat boosts often become redundant. Better to get the boosts now, and growths by level-up later, than level-ups followed by a smaller boost with certifications.

Beyond that, you won't necessarily have mastered your Beginner class by this point. And each of them - except maybe Myrmidon - offer a skill and combat art that will really come in handy. I typically prefer to get Beginner masteries out of the way before really working towards Intermediate masteries. Although, some will alternate between classes (i.e. Fighter as an adjutant, Brigand in regular combat), or just forgo the Beginner class to get an earlier Intermediate start. There are merits to any such approach.

There is one case where I wouldn't recommend certifying for stats, albeit a situational one. Basically, suppose you're still limited on how many Intermediate Seals you can buy, and you want a unit in a specified class by the next chapter. Like, I don't have any fliers in chapter 7, and I really want a Pegasus Knight for the Remire map. In that case, I would definitely favor getting the class for immediate use, over certifying into anything for stat boosts. Although even in that case, it's in your best interest to buy as many Seals as are available in a given chapter.

One other certification that I don't see talked about is Thief. It grants 11 in Dex and Speed, either of which can be a big boost for units who aren't naturally inclined toward those stats. If you're already training a unit in Swords early on, and they don't have the stats, then it's a no-brainer. Even if you want them mastering Mercenary, Thief provides larger boosts for the time being.

  17. I agree with Zapp. In this game, you want to certify in higher classes ASAP. Doing so not only gives the unit another option, but also boosts their bases to the class bases, and lets them start working toward the Intermediate mastery skill. Of course, you can certify in, say, Armor Knight (for the 12 Defense), but still spend some time mastering Fighter (for Strength +2). Up to you!

I would only say to hold back on buying them if money is an issue, and you wouldn't get any immediate use out of one. But in my experience, money stops being an issue beyond the earlygame, especially if you're doing Aux battles to get gold (and EXP, and class mastery). If you're super concerned about money, you can save before exams, and reset the game if a unit fails. I generally only do this with Dark Seals (as they're strictly limited in quantity), but it can save a buck here or there.

Personally, I think that the whole talks of famine is just what the Zofians feel is like now that Mila's blessing was cut off. To them, who lived in bountiful luxury for so long, it would feel like it's a famine because the food supply plummeted, even if it could still be plentiful enough from an outside perspective. It is stated the Zofians grew spoiled because Mila was providing for them without much effort. That's probably why you have the famine talks, despite every map being filled with crates and crates of oranges to the point the healing tiles from Gaiden were converted to be filled with those crates to recover HP.

Ooh, I like this. It would explain away the discrepancy, and make internal lore-sense. I don't think this is what the writers had in mind, but I'm honestly here for a "phony famine".

Hm... on some level, though, I would've expected obesity to be an issue for Zofians. If they can get a ton of food with minimal physical effort, they'd be just like... your average American. But the only obese Zofian we meet is Desaix, and he's a villain. From what little we see of King Lima the last, he's incredibly gaunt. Perhaps his vice was drugs, instead? ...Wait, was Mila his dealer? If she saw how happy they made her people, would she give them away freely?

...This is getting into the weeds, so I'm gonna stop idly speculating now.

In FE4, it costs 30K. Most players might expect it to be 50K, since that's how much other legendary weapons cost to repair. But I guess Kaga didn't value an individual human life quite that much.

Funnily enough, this means that the Valkyrie Staff has the same cost-per-use as the Berserk and Sleep Staves. Apparently, making an enemy spend a few turns napping requires equal effort to ressurecting the dead.

Tl;Dr Even if it's logically and rationally sensible that there are food problems and all the food we pick off the ground is rationed, they still should have showed and not just told us about the food shortages. Like have focus on a scene where someone is begging Alm for food, or worse, a scene where Alm is forced to confiscate food from commoners for the army.

I was just thinking about this, and how there should be mini-quests where you have to give someone food. Now, a few of those do exist, like the Cheesemonger in Zofia Palace, or the "starving" man who demands meat. Land meat. But the latter seems to be played for laughs, and the former isn't starving, but seeking out luxury. Likewise for the woman who wants ingredients to bake cookies for her daughter - a modest luxury, but not a matter of life-and-death.

There aren't any cases, far as I can see, where someone is actually starving and makes the request. Maybe they didn't do this because it would increase the moral gravity of the situation? Most of the quests are "wants", so throwing in a "need" quest creates a situation where Alm or Celica would be, arguably, a bad person to refuse. And they aren't avatars, so while you control them, the designers probably don't want their functional characterization left to the player's whims.

Having said that, it would've helped sell the scene if there were some "my family is starving, please give me any food" subquests. Maybe a playable character could be locked behind one? Like, you can feed Jesse a Bread Piece and bring him along, or leave him to die because you've got enough Mercs already. ...Still not sure which one would be more valuable in gameplay.

"if I send this unit through these four awful classes they'll have an amazing build for the last three maps of the game".

How dare you speak ill of my Fighter->Thief->Mercenary->Warrior->Hero->War Master Balthus build. He totally had enough time to master two crappy Advanced classes without me playing heavy favorites. It definitely paid off in terms of performance, and was by no means an overcooked gimmick that never really got off the ground. No ma'am.

Queenly Majesty works perfectly for Nidoqueen. Gonna want to give Nidoking a Kingly counterpart of some kind. Supreme Overlord could also work, to co-opt another currently-unique ability.

I've rejigged the stats so Mega Nidkoing is a mixed sweeper-defense tank and Mega Nidoqueen is a special sweeper-mixed tank.

Sound like some good ideas! Ah yeah, I had forgotten about Supreme Overlord, since I haven't played the most recent games. It would be very good on a mixed sweeper.

Fire-type Extremespeed is precisely why I included that ability. 😄Incidentally, it originally was going to give Arcanine's Fire-type attacks increased priority, but a chat with my bro made clear that was broken, so I went for a simpler Pixilate template.

Oof, here I am imagining priority Flare Blitzes and Overheats. There's a reason they nerfed Gale Wings beyond Gen VI.

Machamp is one of those cases where having an already-high Attack makes it seriously difficult to give it a focused stat gain like Arcanine or the Nidos. Iron Fist isn't a bad idea. Hmm...what about an ability that increases the power of moves with no secondary effects? Like Strength, Mega Punch, etc. Or, he could have some kind of "Power Unleashed" ability that raises Attack each turn, due to the belt being removed. Maybe an Armstrong ability that increases the power of arm moves? Fist moves would be a subcategory of those, and others could include chops, slaps, palm strikes, and throws.

Fair point on the stats. As for the abilities, Power Unleashed sounds pretty busted, much like Speed Boost. Especially on a Mon with priority options. Maybe Moxie instead? So it's getting the Attack boosts, but only when it earns it through a KO. I also like the idea of an "inverse Sheer Force". Would it also apply to moves like Close Combat, which do have a side effect, but aren't boosted by Sheer Force (because it's a negative side effect)?

Also, if the belt is comimg off, we might need to get our censorship bars ready...

I'd noted that some Megas shared abilities, like Pixilate for Mega Gardevoir and Mega Altaria, and though I originally had a Draconify ability that turned Mega Dragonite's Normal-type moves Dragon, my bro pointed out that Aerilate would be preferable as no type is immune to Flying and Flying super effects more types than Dragon. Given Dragonite's connection to the sea, I'd considered something like Swift Swim.

Swift Swim isn't one I'd thought of, but it could make sense. Especially if the Mega evolution shares some design cues with Dragonair - i.e. bluish coloration, more slender body. Dragonite also already gets a bunch of moves that go well with Rain, like Hurricane and Aqua Tail.

That's one possiblity. Grassy Surge is another, boosting the power of its STAB moves and healing it each turn.

Incidentally, I was thinking intense heat could be another weather effect that would function as the Fire-type's equivalent to Sandstorm and Hail.

Grassy Surge would be great, too, for that passive healing! Couple it with a boosted Giga Drain, and you've got a great wall.

Hm, I don't know if we need "intense heat", when we've already got a Fire-type weather condition in Sunny Day. What about, instead, Mega Typhlosion got an ability that essentially threw off a Fire Spin right away? That way, you're doing passive damage to the opponent, while also having a trapping effect.

Thought of a new ability for Mega Xatu: Prediction. The user remembers the last three attacks to hit it during the battle and cannot be hit by any of those attacks. In the case of multi-hit moves, the first time the move is used on Mega Xatu, it will hit as normal, but if the opponent tries to use that move on Xatu again, each hit will miss. In the case of binding moves, the recurring damage resulting from the bind will hit, though any subsequent uses of the move will fail so long as they're in the memory queue.

It's an interesting prospect, but a little confusing. And potentially overpowered - like, if the opponent has Earthquake and three other moves, and has already used the other three moves, then Xatu is effectively invincible. I would limit the "memory" to the "last move used", while also giving it a 50% activation rate (like Wonder Skin). So, if the last move was Surf, and they try to use it again, Xatu would have a 50% chance of dodging it. This could be really strong against "choiced" opponents, who would be forced to either switch out, or take a gamble every time.

I've tried a new build that pushes its Attack and Special Attack both to 130, and ups the Speed to 120 to boot.

Interesting! Very much a "glass cannon" aspect. I like the idea of Flygon presenting a "dual threat" on either offensive side.

Fairy is an interesting choice to add. Luminion has only one attack that can take advantage of it, though.

    Thanks for the input!

Yeah, thinking on it, I'm feeling kinda "take it or leave it" about the Fairy typing. I think it works thematically with its design, and makes it more interesting defensively. But as you mentioned, it doesn't have many STAB options currently. Also, if it gets a great ability like Drizzle, then people will find a use for it, even if it's pure Water. If we didn't already have a pure Water-type Mega in Blastoise, I probably would've just stuck with it.

Anytime, glad to contribute! I'm happy to give feedback on the other entries, too, once those are updated. Some great ideas here.

...I will never understand why they named him Arthur. He was Harold in Japanese. Then they changed him to a name that was already taken. Why?

They renamed him to match the letter "H" buckle on his belt. "H" for "Arthur"!

As for here, the best way to give it some gravitas and not just be there would be to incorporate it into his promotion some how.

Hm... in the current canon, Nyna presents Marth with the Fire Emblem in chapter 6. That's way too early for a promotion. But what if it happened after you seize Archanea Castle instead? Say, the Emblem was left behind in the castle. That's chapter 12 in the base game, and 14 in your newly proposed chronology. Either way, it's right around the midpoint of the campaign. Seems as good a time as any to promote. This way, "gaining the Fire Emblem" and "obtaining new skills, stats, and a new model on promotion" could go hand-in-hand.
