  1. I'm pretty sure fliers will be in... they're a staple of FE. There obviously wouldn't be variable-height flying (that would make them far too OP, unless we had free-aiming archery like older DW games.) I kind of imagined fliers as being more like Argorok in Hyrule Warriors (more so the Adventure Mode variant), where it flies, but really low to the ground. They might be able to fly over mountains and stuff too, but obviously there would be some restrictions to that too.
  2. I could totally see Phina / Sylvia / Lene / Olivia with a rapier / slim sword and a moveset similar to Mace!Diao Chan, with lots of spins and kicks and whatnot incorporated into the moveset. I could also see her C1 being a dance that gives an AOE attack speed increase to allies around her. >:)
  3. As a long-time Warriors fan, I can tell you that you can expect a fair amount of strategy. Generally speaking (as mentioned earlier in this thread), Warriors games are mostly about micro-managing the battlefield. You are your army's best warrior, and you usually need to decide where you are needed most... sometimes you need to make a plan to travel to multiple locations in advance, deciding which route would be the most beneficial. In the various battles you will participate in, you also encounter various events that can change the flow of battle. As many of you came from Hyrule Warriors, you know about these from the story mode... I remember the first Samurai Warriors was great with incorporating this feature as well. For those who are unfamiliar with Warriors games... these include things like enemy (or ally) reinforcements, activating ambushes (often having to lead an enemy to a certain location), and capturing strategic locations. Omega Force does a surprisingly good job incorporating stuff from the source material into their Warriors games (particularly Franchise-Warriors), so these kinds of events will probably play a bigger part than in other games in the series. To the untrained eye, the combat of Warriors games seems shallow... but the premise is essentially like that of Smash Bros.: the characters have similar controls so it's easy to transition from one to the other, but their properties and movesets differ enough. For example... it's like how for most characters in Smash, their Up+B move is a recovery / upward attack move... in Warriors games, C2 (Light Attack, then Heavy Attack) is generally a move that knocks enemies into the air. Characters in Warriors games these days are different enough where you won't get bored, even when their movesets seem like they would be similar... anyone whose played Hyrule Warriors knows about that with Sword!Link and Sword!Toon Link, and Darunia and Ravio, etc. You can even see this a lot in other Warriors games... where, for instance, some spear users are more stabby and other ones are more swipey. And, of course, there are some characters that excel at things like juggling, others that have wide attack range, etc. Warriors games aren't for everyone, but I'd recommend giving them a fair shot before judging. They get a lot of bad press for being repetitive, but really... it's not any more repetitive than any other hack n' slash or beat 'em up any game where you fight stuff, really. :P Unless, I guess, you try to take out EVERY SINGLE peon in EVERY SINGLE BATTLE... but then you're doing it wrong. :P
  4. You are correct. ^_^ That's what I was planning on doing... since I'm playing the games for the story currently, I really don't need it ruined with nonsense like "IN AMERICA!"
  5. Thracia 776 has a patch? Where?! When I researched it, the only ones I could find were one that basically only translated the menus, and one that only (and shoddily) translated the story (which at that point, I'd rather just read the translation scripts on SF as I play. ~_~) I would like to play TRS as well, but I read the translation patches for those are pretty bad (if one even exists for the second one at all.) FE is my main priority ATM, though...
  6. What I kinda meant more of was... If it's a hero I don't have yet, I keep it regardless of rank... or if it's one I have that's a higher rank, I keep the higher-ranked one. If it's a hero I do have and it's the same rank, I merge them for the extra SP and level. If it's a hero I do have and it's a lower rank, they're officially inheritance fodder now... unless they have something I can't really use. I'm not trying to min-max any stats or get perfect skill sets on everyone... I'm mostly just focusing on my main team for the arena and the more difficult challenges with everyone else just being part of my collection. I still level everyone else, of course...
  7. These are two theories I had as well... but I could see the Weapon Triangle bonuses being more along the lines of Hyrule Warriors rather than DW8. From my experience in HW... you could still defeat a general with the same element, but it would take a little longer... in DW8, IIRC, enemy generals your weapons are weak against are basically super-powered. Unless there's an emphasis on character-switching (which actually wouldn't surprise me), it seems like the Weapon Triangle bonuses won't be super dramatic. That said, here are some other things I think they might implement: Capturable bases that will heal you when you sit in them or drop healing items. Movesets based around entire classes (excluding Lords, who would obviously have movesets unique to them)... mounted units would function like Epona in HW. With this in mind, they could theoretically include any and every FE character as "generics." Tiered weapons like in most Warriors games, since it meshes well with FE's Iron -> Steel -> Silver weapons. Perhaps equippable skills instead of items? Vulneraries (consumable healing items are present in HW and Berserk.) NPC Clerics that will follow you around and heal / buff you occasionally. Certain breakable walls. Castle battles. Quick step / dash (like in HW and Berserk) rather than jumping (like DW and SW.) A "My Unit" seems like it could be a strong possibility, given the emphasis on it in recent FE games and character creation in past Warriors games. I could even see it being a separate mode like Destiny Mode in DW5:XL... where what you do influences how your MU turns out and you are able to use your MU in other modes when you complete it. I would really love an Empire mode as well... not that I'm expecting it to be there, but I hope something like it is FEW's third mode (the first two being Story and Free Mode, naturally.)
  8. I like moral ambiguity, so I say that bosses do not need the "evil" look... or the "evil" personality either. We don't really even need it from a gameplay perspective... New Mystery of the Emblem did a pretty good job alleviating that, with the whole "hey, try to recruit this guy" dialogue you could view before a battle. Or even the common "what am I fighting for?" dialogues / monologues that some recruitable characters have at the beginning of chapters. Fire Emblem in general just needs more of a mixed bag of pretty / ugly / plain characters on every side.
  9. Honestly, I'm playing FE4 right now and wish this was a thing... so yes, I'd be all for it. I'm in the second generation and kinda don't know who some of the kids' parents are... >_> I know I can find out in the castle, but I can't be bothered to do that with every single child unit. Hair color is nice and all, but I do agree with the suggestions of eye and armor color, and accessories being passed down to child units as well. The child units already inherit base stats, growth rates, and equipment... so why not other things too? Also... it's probably a long-shot, but if they do remake FE4, I hope they put a separate mode based on FE5 in there as well.
  10. I'm personally not a fan of reclassing... if we are going to have it, I did like how Gen-1 of Awakening did it, where most units have a few similar class choices. I didn't use it in Shadow Dragon at all, and for Awakening I only used it for skill collection (and ended up using everyone's default class / the promoted version of their base class that fit their personality most when I was done.) Part of the characters' personality is in their class, and changing that just feels... wrong. From a mechanical standpoint, I can see where people can have fun with it, but I'm pretty anal hesitant about deviating from the norm for a character.
  11. I've mostly been using skill inheritance to make my arena team better... I've actually been getting some pretty good pulls lately, but I did manage to slap some B skills from trash units on a few just because nobody had them previously. I gave my Lucina Obstruct (since she takes point more often than not), my Hinoka Pass (because why not have more mobility?), and my Julia Renewal (since she's the squishiest in my party.) I know I can do better builds... but since I'm approaching Heroes with the Pokemon philosophy, I'm only sacrificing units I don't need for the sake of inheritance.
  12. Hey! So I finally decided to join the forums here... after using this site for weeks and occasionally lurking around here. However, I'm not a new Fire Emblem fan... I've been into the series since about 2002-ish (yes, because of Smash Bros., much like how most of the Western world was introduced to the franchise. :P) After unlocking Marth in Smash Bros. and falling in love at first sight liking him so much that he became my main, I took the next logical step and played FE3. I remember at first I didn't understand how to move my characters... hurr. It was a short while after this that I began frequenting the Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals (later Sanctuary of Strategy) forums... all this before FE7 was localized overseas. I also began playing every FE game in Japanese... mostly to collect the adorable map sprites and compile them into an MSPaint file. Fast forward many years... I got FE: Awakening (is it 13? I kinda lost count after 7 or 8) mostly because I wanted to play every game that every Smash 4 character was in, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that FE games have plots and characters with personalities. So, that brings us to the present... I'm currently trying to catch up on playing FE games in a language I can understand. My bucket list is as follows: Shadow Dragon Gaiden Echoes (just pre-ordered it today... yay!) New Mystery of the Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War (currently playing... thanks to everyone who made Project Naga!) Thracia 776 (seriously... when are we going to get a real English patch for this?) Binding Blade (thanks for this patch as well!) Blazing Blade Sacred Stones Path of Radiance Radiant Dawn Awakening Fates Oh, I've also been playing Heroes since launch... I'll put my FC in my sig later. Looking forward to talking to everyone! tldr; Been into Fire Emblem for about 15 years and have been terrible about it, but am trying to make up for it now.
  13. It really depends on the content of both versions... if it's the same, I'd probably lean toward the Switch version. I did play Hyrule Warriors Legends extensively and had no issues with it, but Warriors games tend to be better on more powerful hardware (not that I'm really a fan of the ridiculous seas of peons modern Warriors games tend to have compared to the earlier games in the series.)
  14. When playing Warriors games, I tend to use everyone... partially because I'm a completionist (everyone to max level... woo.) and partially because I've learned that initially unappealing characters can actually be pretty awesome. My favorites in Warriors games tend to be characters with a ton of reach, so if Ephraim is in, I'll probably like him a lot as long as his moveset isn't overly stabby. And speaking of long reach... here's hoping GBA!Generals will be incorporated in some way!
