  1. The pasta pass thing was obviously fake, btw.
  2. The reinstatement of the FCC fairness doctrine is probably the most they can do tbh.
  3. Then it sounds like it's gonna be a pretty symbolic measure tbh. We'll see, I guess. I think expulsion requires the votes of 2/3 of the body. The process is detailed here.
  4. Huh. Why didn't we do that earlier? Was adding that considered just too harsh?
  5. There's been talk of expulsion but, like with invoking the 25th amendment and impeachment, it's not likely to work. But we should do it anyway. Everything is symbolic from here on.
  6. rip Donald Trump's twitter account Sure. My behavior here doesn't contribute to any of it, though, so I'm not seeing the point you're trying to make. EDIT: More background:
  7. Conservatives: lets whine about consequences forever EDIT: also don't bring your relatives into arguments if you're gonna get upset at people criticizing them BONUS:
  8. The arguments I'm not really interested in seriously entertaining are: 1) This would happen if the shoe was on the other foot. We've had multiple presidential elections -- IN RECENT MEMORY -- wherein our candidate won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote and nothing remotely close to this happened. Hillary wasn't routinely ginning up her base about how the Republican party stole the election and we should go "take back" the country. It's absurd. 2) These are some fringe edgelords and not nearly 30% of the Republican-voting electorate. That they're akin to shady loner terrorists in caves and not much more likely to be the middle-aged landscaper down your street who fell down the Fox News/OANN/Newsmax rabbit hole. If they're made I will rebuke them in the most succinct and low effort way I can manage.
  9. Shutting down the moment your argument/beliefs are challenged really isn't a unique thing. When someone does that I am completely okay with just letting them retreat and leaving them be if they don't want any part in the conversation any more. Unfortunately that is rarely the case: they usually persist.
  10. Don't worry, I temper my expectations of right wingers quite heavily. I was not disappointed or surprised. That really didn't sound like 'joking' but a genuine characterization, but okay. Why are you assuming we have the same cause? Furthermore, if it's your cause this is a very ineffective place to wage you campaign to inform the misguided but well-meaning right wingers and bring them to our column through grace, civility, and understanding. If you haven't noticed, most of us generally agree with each other, and it rarely gets that uncivil. Of course, it's probably because most of the earlier conservative posters who'd proudly wade here have been banned. Apparently. Are you blaming me for the false equivalency existing because I choose to ridicule it? Because that may hurt the people who genuinely believe it?
  11. Everyone else was pretty civil and I was the only one being abrasive and I think I wrote up a total of like four sentences telling them they weren't going to get away with the 100% predictable "but BLM lit a Target on fire!" talking point. Cry me a river. I know people aren't rational human beings, but being too mean to them on an internet forum is not going to make me feel guilty. It wasn't kicking or screaming. If you're really interested in a reasonable conversation yourself, stop exaggerating. I'm not interested in reeling every right winger to my side, nor am I interested if me criticizing them is perceived as me confirming I really am as mean as they think lefties are. A significant portion of them also believe I'm a crazed socialist bent on destroying America because I voted for radical liberal Joseph R. Biden and, going out on a limb here, I don't think any amount of handling them with kid gloves is gonna change that! You and others can put in the work if you want to. No. The right-wingers don't get to determine how I argue, particularly if their viewpoints are toxic enough to manifest in actual harm and the most I'm going to give them is an uncomfortable internet argument.
  12. Unfortunately, he's a small fish in a big pond. This guy has 1+ million subscribers right wing civil war 2 cosplay is a thriving market who could have thought it'd lead to something like this!?
  13. The violent leftwing movements of the 1970's were never given the platform the violent rightwing movement gets today. Rittenhouse has been made a rightwing hero. I really can't think of anything remotely comparable to them in our history, let alone now.
  14. Well, yes, you might have to make that concession. But they'll probably stop quoting you soon anyway, if you're leaving the topic.
  15. Notification settings under 'Options' EDIT: If it helps -
  16. I hope you're not telling us to stop posting versus you just unfollowing the topic lol
  17. You really don't have to defend the person who voluntarily compared BLM to yesterday's insurrectionists. You really, really don't.
  18. i mean, that is really the bare minimum, but i guess you're a step better than the ones who wanted to stick by their principles and didn't vote at all the republican party is an active threat to democracy. full stop. the majority of republicans in the house voted for overturning the results of numerous state elections.
  19. one of the best ways to achieve this aim is not being a trump supporter edit: also getting rid of the fascist party and letting the somewhat sane republicans fill that void but we're not even getting past step 1 i imagine 🙂
  20. If you're more interested in defending the goodwill of Trump supporters than anything else after all this, that's probably a good idea. I don't really care about your mom. Sorry.
  21. No they wouldn't. No matter how much you want to imagine they would. BLM fights against police brutality. They don't spearhead attempts to overturn a democratic election. You don't get to equivocate this away.
  22. he also hasn't had his bottle Twitter for 24 hours so he's not hopped on MAGAT ravings like he usually is
  23. well i'll be damned, he just rolled over ... of course he still has two weeks to get riled up again, but he's scared right now.
  24. I hate it here part 634587652476853687 They really do think they can successfully pivot from this.
