Maybe I'm not actually disagreeing, yet at the same time, I can't help but think giving out HM bonuses to some units and not others is a poor and confusing game mechanic. It's already the case with Hugh and Raigh, who get no HM bonuses whatsoever, and that just didn't make any sense.

HMB was never intended in the game. The devs knew of the glitch, and tried to fix it with some code, but the code was faulty, and only removed HMB from enemy recruits you could see on the prep screen. Raigh is visible at the start in ch 12, so he doesn't get any. Ch 13 Percival is sitting there at the start, but in ch 15 he shows up after the map starts, which is why he gets HMB there.

Yey for bugfixes. Though this is ironically one of the less likely changes to be made considering they made godslaying Nosferatu an actual thing in echoes.

I actually like HMB, and a lot of people do. I'm hoping that they give HMB to all enemy recruits this time around in FE6.

It's been more than helpful! I most likely wouldn't have been able to finish (I haven't finished it quite yet) FE6 without the help of you guys on here. So for that, I thank you all!

I don't know what your experience with the game was, but I've noticed that nobody I've met absolutely loved FE6 the first time they played it. After a replay or two, the game really starts to grow on you. It's the opposite with FE7 too, at least with me. The more I play FE7, the less I enjoy it.

Not to mention the paladins. I lost a few units there, but I didn't beat myself up over it too much.

Yeah, that map is pretty hard, especially if you don't have aircalibur or a trained bow user to fight the wyvern lords. Those guys can wreck your units up with their massive attack, high durability, and ok speed.

Although it does give infinite boots.

    thats my favorite chapter actually

same, actually. Ch 21 is such a fun chapter to play because it's one of very few maps in FE where it feels like two armies clashing. You face hordes of powerful wyverns and you truely understand how strong Bern was and how it was able to conquer so much. The reinforcements are fair (although you can cheese them with the warp staff, fliers, or just abusing the max enemy limit of 50).

its all manageable by turtling, but thats it. Turtle-ing.

Or, you know, good unit placement, which also completely chesses status staves and allows you to progress forward.

The status staves are easily dealt with. You get three earlygame healers, and if you are using even one of them, you are guaranteed to have a restore user. Not only this, but you can get two restore staves before status staves show up, and, there are shops with restore staves (although 2k gold is a little much), and when the game brings mroe status stave spam, it gives you Cecilia, who can use restore, Niime, the best staff user in the game, Yoder, who can use a mapwide full heal and restore staff. The game gives you resources to deal with status staves, and I like them the way they are because they reward good unit placement if you want to avoid turtling.

I've never actually used Allance, but from what I've seen, (and from what I can tell) they're good for the midgame, but they won't carry the same way Perceval can once he joins. I don't really know, though.

The one that got the first Knight's crest will have stats a little worse then Pervical, probably better skill, but they are better for the 15 chapters that Percival isn't there, and similar after he joins, eventually becoming better again in the endgame.

in 12x, Tate will be dealing about 22-18 damage in a round against a normal* enemy she doubles with an iron lance. (Meaning she'll 2-3RKO most enemies)

She 2-3rkos most enemies, which is actually really good for setting up kills for her because most of your units will almost but not quite barely finish off units, so she can swoop in and get the kill.

    52 minutes ago, Benice said:

Zeiss also has more options most notably horseslayers, which will let him OHKO a lot of cavs.

You have the horseslayer for ch 13 too, which Tate can also use after promo. Tate is closer to promo then Zeiss is, and you get an elysian whip in her join chapter and then another one in ch 12. Tate also has 11, 12, and 12x to train her lance rank so she might even be able to use the horseslayer before promo and get unpromoted xp gain against those cavs, and then promote her for Arcadia, which is the best chapter to be a flier for in this game, period. Zeiss has 16x to train his lance rank if he wants to get unpromoted horseslayer xp, and 16x only. Not only this but 16x isn't the friendliest place to low avoid units with terrible resistance, for several reasons.

    55 minutes ago, Benice said:

But if Tate is considered better, she probably is.

Flier utility and decent combat earlier in the game, available for the best chapter to be a flier in when Zeiss isn't available for, easy to get to promo, etc.

  5. 13 hours ago, Fates-Blade said:

A unit can barely level up if they're promoted early on.

Yes, but Shanna after she caps speed really isn't going to gain much more from her levels. Shanna gets bulk, str, and con from her promotion, three things she wants. Not only that but even with like 7 str she still two-rounds fighters in the western isles with a sword, and dodges all of them. In lategame sure her combat struggles a bit, but she still has massive flier utility, and Killer lances fix most of the combat issues she has, especially in NM. After you promote a unit they don't need as many levels to keep up, you can use them less. Not only this but promo gains are ludicrous in FE6, so it's even more reasonable to do so. Looking at other FE games and reasons to early promo there:

In gaiden promo gains are very good, give lots of bonuses, and growths are poor.

In FE7 HHM, after you are like five levels higher then the enemy xp gain slows down to pretty much that of a promoted unit anyways.

In FE8, if you wait til level 20 to promote, the game's gonna be mostly over, especially with units like Ewan, Knoll, L'arachel, and even some of the other units.

Well, I suppose it's a good thing that Tate's bases come 8 chapters earlier then.

desert chapter where enemy Wyvern lords, Wyvern Riders, Hero's, very powerful Mercenaries Brigands and  Berserkers are Thea can barely damage any of them and may be doubled by them.

here's the thing. The unpromoted fliers are still some of the best units in the desert chapter. They have unlimited mobility, and can rescue drop your other units, use a torch with their high move for more visibility, or use swords to kill all the brigands, who have no chance of hitting them if they have swords equipped.

    12 hours ago, Benice said:

Rutger is another unit best to earlypromote, since he'll ORKO everything for a really, really long time, (possibly even at endgame) as opposed to not ORKO'ing for a lot longer. There are great short-term bonuses that sometimes are good enough for a whole game.

Not only this, but Rutger will still be one of your fastest-leveling units, as he is your best bosskiller. Bosskills give a free level a chapter, so Rutger's keeping up.

    11 hours ago, ping said:

Unless you're playing a ranked run, maximizing XP is not the goal of the game. It might make the endgame slightly easier, but also makes the early- and midgame more difficult by a larger degree - and in most FE games, those sections of the game are definitely not easier than the endgame to begin with. Of course, nobody is stopping you from promoting as late as you want - it's a single player game after all, and I know that I tend to promote later than is technically optimal - but if someone is struggling to beat a chapter, it's almost always worth a look if there's a promotion item that they're willing to use. The warning about "wasting XP" is really just a whole lot of hot air.

Also, the lategame of BB is quite a bit easier then the earlygame, as all your powerhouses are with you, and you have legendary weapons to kill whatever you need to.

"a unit who is already promoted, like Rutger, for example, I don't have to give them as much exp-they have what they need already." A promotion only gives about two levels worth of stats on average.

In Binding blade, almost every promo gives +2 or more in every stat. With Binding blade's worse growths, this can equal 6 or more levels of growths, or, in some cases, such as Warrior's +2 speed for Wade (equal to 10 levels of training) or Lilina's +3 in speed (8 levels of training), and these are only some of the slightly extreme ones.

    5 hours ago, Benice said:

He gets +5 Hp, which is equivocal to seven levels. He gets +2 strength, which is equivocal to five levels, he gets +1 to speed and +2 to skill, both of which are inconsequential because he's doubling anyways and he'll already have capped both. Defense and resistence: Rutger gets the equivalent of eleven levels.

That is a big improvement. Not to mention a +30 crit bonus which is invaluable.

He also gets extra move, which is incredible for Binding Blade, access to better swords earlier thanks to the weapon level boost, and better con to wield those swords (although this one really doesn't matter, as con is pretty worthless on fast units.)

By chapter 15-16 my not promoted Shanna at level 17

This is your problem. Shanna is at her best when promoted round 8x, as swords for the western isles, flying, and decent combat makes her pretty much your best unit for those chapters, and flier utility and killer lances nullifies her str as she can kiill with a hit and a crit.

    34 minutes ago, Fates-Blade said:

my Thea hasn't been able to level up since she joined and started falling behind at the desert chapter and at that point I decided to not use her.

How? Thea has ch 12x, a literal training chapter, to get levels in, 13 has cavs that can be fed to her, and 14, she's doing so much that she can get levels, or be promoted and use swords against brigands.

    36 minutes ago, Fates-Blade said:

but even if she had some level ups, maybe 4

4 level ups in eight chapters is a little slow. Any unit that's not a prepromote trained at that rate will fall off, if you are only giving them a level every two chapters in midgame.

    37 minutes ago, Fates-Blade said:

gave mostly to Lugh, Raigh, Lance, Alen, Fir, Rutger, and Dieck over them who I definitely consider superior units who deserve the EXP far more than them.

Lugh is considered worse for a few reasons, one of which are his terrible bases, poor durability (he gets oneshot in chapter 5 in HM), and lack of a mount.

Raigh has some speed problems, a class with a lot of competition for promo, and poor bases.

Lance and Alen don't have wings, and one of them can't even promote till ch 16's start.

Fir's basically a worse Rutger, she's still very good but she comes later, with worse bases, and she takes time to train if you want to use her.

Rutger is one of three units who I would argue better then Shanna maybe. His good earlygame combat, bosslaying skills, and good class makes him a godly unit.

Dieck has speed problems later, and has to wait for the second hero crest, but is a solid unit. Lack of mount and falling off in the midgame without godly combat earlygame lowers him.

Shanna has availability, wings, stats that get the job done while not needing babying and actually fairly good combat. She's considered one of the four best units in the game for me, and completely changes how I play the game, in a positive way.

  7. If you baby Shanna for 4-5 chapters, she turns into a great unit that will assist from ch7 onwards and when promoted is arguably your best unit in the western isles. Zeiss isn't worth the babying since you already have 3 promoted, effective fliers at their job. I usually find that any more then three fliers is just overkill, in  Ilia three fliers easily completes all the objectives. In Sacae, you are probably cutting down on the fliers you deploy as all enemies have at least 15 might weapons against them without the delphi shield, which is going on Melady for sure. She has the best combat out of any flier, and giving her the delphi shield makes her unkillable again. This means that unless it's a map where you really want another flier for another objective in Sacae, which I can't think of off the top of my head, Melady's probably the only flier getting deployed in Sacae. Let's not even mention the fact that if you go Sacae, you don't get another Elysian whip, and if you go Ilia, you only get one in ch 20, and that needs a precious warp use. You can buy one in the secret shop in ch 16, but those are expensive and I'd rather have a pair of boots then another flier.

I agree with this. Gonzales is really good and not as inaccurate if you invest in him as people say

I somewhat agree with this. Gonzales usually has around 60-70% hit displayed before promo in the western isles, on hard mode at least with an iron axe. He doubles most things, which most axe users will never see, and deals good damage. His promo to berserker and the fact that so many enemies use lances in later parts of the game also boost his accuracy to reliable standards, getting close to displayed 80's. Gonzales also doubles lots of things and deals large amounts of damage, and even if he misses an attack he still has a 30% chance to oneshot anyway.

    15 hours ago, Fates-Blade said:

He can use Hand Axes, so 1-2 range

1-2 range that has terrible accuracy and weighs him down by three points of speed. Not to mention it's not killing anything on EP, cause FE6 enemies actually have stats. This is a valid argument in FE7 and 8, but not in 6, where lack of 1-2 range is not a very damming thing, especially with swords and bows actually being good.

    15 hours ago, Fates-Blade said:

he also has good con, str, lck, def, HP, and supports. Also Karel is a Swordmaster that joins late,

Oujay's con is about the same as Rutgers, and Rutger has around the same hp, defense, and just barely less str, but a lot more avoid, so he is more durable then Oujay. Rutger will still kill more because +30 crit.

Karel joins with two chapters left in the game. Rutger joins with amazing base stats and growths 25 chapters earlier.

    15 hours ago, Fates-Blade said:

Especially because of his Str, Def and decent spd. Stats you need to beat the game, he may even have, if they all wielded Killer Lances or Javelins, equal Spd to Shanna and Thea or better if given Speedwings.

I'm saying all this for a no arena playthough of normal mode, hard mode might be different.

Even on hard mode, with a killer lance/javelin, Shanna and Tate still fly circles around him. The next speedwing you get is 5 chapters later, and that's half the game that Zeiss is available for. Shanna and Tate need no speedwings to double, and still kill things with Killer lances, which you can buy a lot of in 14. Shanna is also available for 15 chapters that Zeiss isn't there for, even more if you include gaidens which also improve Shanna's utility even better.  all of the gaidens Shanna is amazing in, with the exception of 20x Sacae. Zeiss has terrible aid for a flier, and Zeiss's speed really is a fallout for him, as at 10/1 he has around 14 speed, which is ok at that point, but isn't going to cut it in Ilia against mercs and Falcoknights, and most things actually double him in Sacae, which, without the delphi shield, means he's getting two-rounded. Melady is getting the delphi shield like I said earlier, so Zeiss will be completely useless in Sacae and will most likely see no use. After those, 14 speed in 21 isn't doubling wyverns, he needs round 16 speed, which is 5 more levels away for him, but I will concede the speedwing fixes that. and he wants way more speed if he wants a chance at doubling wyvern lords, which are really where he would shine above Shanna or Tate. But he doesn't, and Shanna/Tate will actually do more damage to a wyvern lord on average then Zeiss will, thanks to doubling with killer lances.

this doesn't matter, as thieves have infinite chest utility also. Last time I checked, in FE1 lockpicks only have a use consumed for bridges or doors. 150 is pretty good considering no Seth, Vanessa, or Franz.

    Strats for the final levels:

Ch 18 I used warp liberally to save turns.

Ch 19 I used Rennac with a torch for fog vision, then had Myrrh crit the boss on EP with a warp boost from Artur.

Ch 20 I warped Eirika and Myrrh over the top left mountain, and had Tana bring Artur over and get dropped by Eirika turn 1. Turn 2 Myrrh crits the boss and Eirika gets warped to seize.

Final part 1 Myrrh with a dancer boost + capped magic Artur can just barely make it to right in front of Lyon, and with a crit and a hit on EP, Lyon dies. Myrrh needs 18 str or more to kill with a crit and a hit, otherwise a double crit is necessary.

Final part 2 Ephraim chipped the beast, Tana gets a pierce proc and a hit, and Myrrh finishes.

Artur was very good. He helped a lot with combat in earlygame, and capped magic fairly early, doing so before I even got warp. after that he warped everything everywhere.

Garcia was ok. His early game wasn't the best but he still helped, and he fell off hard afterward.

Gerik probably would have liked the first hero crest instead of Garcia, but he still was pretty helpful.

ok, now Myrrh was the star of the endgame. She was the fast bosskiller, and allowed me to save turns on chapters such as the final and ch 20.

I realized that if we wanted to promote our fliers earlier, we could have gotten the elysian whip in chapter 8 by keeping a chest key from chapter 5x. Personally, it would have saved me a LOT of turns to have a promoted Vanessa.

The only problem with this is if the player did not draft Kyle or Forde, it might be even more of a turn cost to get a chest key and the ch 8 chest.

Chapter 10 - 10 (+4 'cause I used Tana to recruit Cormag. Got all the loot, though)

This is not a penalty, as Tana did nothing illegal to recruit cormag. It says in the rules that undrafted units may recruit other characters. As long as Tana did nothing illegal there's no penalty.

  15. currently at start of ch 12 Eirika route. IDK what my turn count is, but I think i'm doing as good as I can. Earlygame was a little harder without Seth, Vanessa, or Franz (seth being allowed til chapter 5 end in most drafts and Franz and Vanessa usually being draftable twice to prevent imbalance due to how much of an advantage they are), but it was still fairly good.

My current team (didn't recruit Marisa lol, she's a turn loss.)

    fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones_50.png?width=575&height=431

curiously enough, I only rigged one or two of these str levels. The rest she got naturally.

    fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones_51.png?width=575&height=431

The flier that I actually get and save turns with. Still gotta figure out if it costs less turns to recruit Cormag for his Elysian whip or to get the secret shop in ch 14, seeing as the unconventional rules for this draft prevent me from using theives to get promotion items.

    fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones_52.png?width=575&height=431

Artur already has A staves, and I have been rigging magic levels on him. He got a goddess icon.

     fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones_53.png?width=575&height=431

Decided to promote Garcia with Gerik's hero crest, but it might have been better to give it to Gerik so that he could have 1-2 range or a horse.... Rigged speed levels on him.

    fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones_54.png?width=575&height=431

Horse. She's really frail right now, and I couldn't get the angelic robe or dracoshield in ch 9, so she's stuck this frail for now. Probably gonna promote as soon as she hits level 10.

    fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones_55.png?width=575&height=431

Probably should have promoted Gerik instead, we shall see, but he might benefit from a few levels.

    fire-emblem-the-sacred-stones_56.png?width=575&height=431

    dans. that's all.

my team is looking fairly solid, an earlier flier or an actual cav could have helped, but I'm doing fairly well. I'm sure the person with Franz or Vanessa will beat me because of that massive earlygame advantage, but I've won a Fe8 draft before without either so I'm fine.
