  1. I would say both, depending on the game. Some games are more of one than of the other. For example, to me, COD is a commercial product, cranked out every couple years to satisfy the shooter fandom, with relatively little innovation or creativity put into it. But Zelda games are works of art, special creations that the gaming society as a whole only receives roughly every 5-7 years.
  2. I would say that F!Byleth is popular and will continue to be more popular for the simple reason of being a sexualized anime girl (and I do think that is mostly true; just look at all the fan art), but Lucina (for example) is a modestly designed female protagonist and is incredibly popular as well. Characterwise, both the Byleths are fairly dull, so I don't think that has much influence on people's opinions. F!Byleth is also probably more popular because she can be paired with the more popular lords like Dimitri and Claude. Not to say that Edelgard is unpopular, but she's less popular than the other house lords. Personally, I dislike F!Byleth's design because, not only is it unnecessarily sexualized like Camilla's design (although not nearly as exaggerated), it is pathetically impractical and strange as both a battle outfit and professor's uniform. Who goes into fights dressed in a crop top and fish net leggings? That's asking to be skewered by everyone you go against. As a professor, it's completely unprofessional and sticks out horribly compared to the rest of the Garreg Mach faculty (barring Manuela *shudders*).
  3. I am a total sucker for fluffy romance fanfics, Fire Emblem especially. No smut. Just wholesome romances between my favorite characters. They satisfy my hopelessly romantic self (and my distinct lack of an actual romantic relationship). They're also really great to read before bed to relax my mind from daily stress.
  4. Villains who aren't actually bad people, they just went down the wrong path due to outside circumstances: Anakin Skywalker is one of the first to come to mind. Out of the fear of losing yet another person he loved, he embarked on a path of both self-destruction and external destruction, eventually causing a large part of the galaxy to fall under the subjugation of the Galactic Empire. But power wasn't what he wanted, per se. He just wanted stability and security in his circumstances and within himself. He was an individual who experienced incredibly strong emotions and traumas yet was repeatedly told to repress them because "it is not the Jedi way." That just isn't healthy and is just one of the reasons why he became the mass murderer and tyrant that he devolved into. The person who puts on a front, regardless of what it is (faked happiness, harshness, coldness, etc.), to guard themselves from being hurt: One of my favorite Awakening kids is Inigo (check profile pic), and one of the biggest reasons is his depth of character. He's not just a harmless, insatiable flirt, he's a guy who's been dealt a bad hand in life, losing both of his parents to some unstoppable force beyond his control and working overtime to make himself appear happy for his own sake and for the sake of those around him (Inigo and Lucina's supports particularly show this). This is why my favorite support for him is his support with whoever his father is. He expresses genuine emotional vulnerability and is made a much more endearing character for it. Yeah, and I love Severa (RobinxSevera OTP) for this reason as well, except she goes full on tsun tsun because of it compared to Inigo's forced happiness. Actually, I really like tsunderes in general because of this, although not every tsundere is guarded to not be hurt. Sometimes they're just bad with emotions. Good characters with a tragic flaw: Dimitri from Three Houses is the perfect example of this.
  5. Crab: crab cakes, crab dip, crab pretzel, cream of crab soup, crab cake sandwich Shrimp: fried shrimp, steamed shrimp, grilled shrimp, shrimp fried rice, hibachi shrimp, shrimp alla bolognese, shrimp scampi Salmon: sweet Thai salmon stir fry, salmon fried rice, bourbon-glazed salmon Flounder: fried flounder sandwich
  6. Lately, I've been listening to Awakening's OST and can't seem to get Conquest out of my head. It's just so good. That and the duet of Lost in Thoughts All Alone with both Azura and Shigure's parts.
  7. Even though I don't think she'll make it to the end, I'm still voting for best shy girl Marianne.
  8. Awakening was my first and my favorite, so I'll mostly stick to its support convos, with just a few from Fates mentioned at the bottom of my post. Awakening: M!Robin/Cordelia: This was my first S-Support for my avatar in Awakening (while also being my first FE game, period) and I loved how natural and deep the romantic connection between the two was. The adorable marriage banter in the Summer Scramble DLC didn't hurt in making me love their relationship either. Gaius/Maribelle: This was another very believable romance between two characters who didn't seem to naturally mesh well. But after hearing the backstory about Maribelle's father and the lengths Gaius went to to ensure her safety and save her father's life, I genuinely believed that the two had fallen in love with each other, without any weirdness to mess up the flow. Chrom/Maribelle: My OTP for Chrom. Childhood friends becoming lovers is far from the most original idea, but they seemed to fit, especially given how it's noted in another dialogue that Chrom dislikes all nobles "except Maribelle." Inigo/Father: The first support in this chain wasn't anything spectacular, but hearing Inigo's facade come down in the B support to reveal the pain he suffered in the apocalyptic world he came from was excellent development for his character. Having both father and son reconcile in the A support was also pretty nice too. Lon'qu/Cherche: My favorite pairing for both Lon'qu and Cherche (who is a pretty bland character in my opinion). Lon'qu overcomes his gynophobia as Cherche helps reassure him over the guilt from his past and the two fall in love. Simple, but sweet. Stahl/Sully, Stahl/Cordelia, Stahl/Lissa, and Stahl/Olivia: Stahl is definitely the "nice guy" of the Shepherds and these supports really show that. He's just a simple guy who loves food and wants to help others. Honestly, other than his Kellam support (due to bad localization), Stahl has no bad supports in my opinion. It's just too bad he can't support Sumia. Pie girl with food guy just screams of the potential for cute fluff supports. Severa/Father and Severa/Cordelia: If my member tag, signature, and cover photo is any indicator, you'll know that I really like Severa (and Selena) as a character. Her tsundere-ness (as bad as it is) is her way of dealing with unpleasant (or pleasant) emotions and the inferiority complex she struggles with. My favorite for each parent support chain is actually the A support, because Severa breaks through her prickly exterior and makes herself vulnerable, telling her father that he's all she needs to be happy and her mother that she loves her and never wants to lose her again. Inigo/Olivia: Finding out that Inigo's incorrigibly flirtatious nature was a direct result of his mother's advice is pretty amusing, and seeing them bond over their shared love for dancing is pure, sweet mom/son interaction. Fates: Felicia/M!Corrin: In the same way that I loved Chrom/Maribelle because it was a friends-to-lovers situation, I love Felicia/M!Corrin. They're just cute together and you can even see the romantic implications in supports as early as support B, something that doesn't usually happen until the S support. My favorite Fates girl. Laslow/Peri: Admittedly, Peri is an absolute mess of a character, but Laslow really helps to (almost) redeem her by making her see the error of her ways (being the only one to actually try to do that) and falling for her in the process. Hinoka/Subaki: My favorite romance support for Subaki (my least favorite character in Fates and FE in general). The two have a history of friendship that becomes something deeper. Nice. Selena/Caeldori (PC): This support shows how Severa has matured somewhat while still battling with feeling inferior to her mother. Admitting her unfair comparison of Caeldori to Cordelia and apologizing for it was a really sweet way for mother and daughter to bond. I never knew tea could be sipped with so much angst. Laslow/Selena: If nothing else, hearing Laslow get so flustered from being flirted with makes this support one of my favorites, but I do also think that Selena and Laslow complement each other pretty well in a romantic sense. Kaze/Azura: To me, Kaze is the Stahl of Fates. He's an all-around nice guy who likes to help others. Him and Azura have very well written convos with a satisfying S support as a conclusion.
  9. If we're talking MCU, then I would say Iron Man, all three Captain America movies, and both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home. If we're talking in general, then no movie can touch the masterpiece that is Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. Best superhero movie ever.
  10. Isn't Cordelia kind of a Mary Sue as well? She's a character who is naturally excellent at everything without working hard for it (unlike Severa or Caeldori), too humble to recognize her abilities, generally beloved by most people (in the game), and a perfectionist to a fault (not to mention fairly attractive). Her only real "flaws" are that she idealized Chrom (who she barely ever spoke to) into the object of her affections, but was too shy and afraid to voice her feelings, and that she has a strong inferiority complex. I'm not saying for sure whether she is or isn't, but in my mind she fits enough of the characteristics of a Mary Sue to be considered one.
  11. Marianne. Gotta love her character development from being a self-loathing, depressed girl who believes she's doomed to fate to a happy, hopeful woman with a bright future (that includes marrying Byleth).
  12. Nice topic! For me, it would be Somebody to Love by Queen. The desire to love and be loved is such a simple but fundamental desire inherent to human nature. If all I ever had in this life was someone that I loved dearly who loved me the same way, I would have lived a fulfilled life.
  13. My username is basically a reference to my two favorite game series, Zelda and Fire Emblem. “Twilit” was the adjective describing some of the bosses in Twilight Princess and you already know what Falchion is if you’re on a FE forum. So there you go: “twilitfalchion”
  14. Get groceries and hang out at my favorite coffee shop. It's times like this that you really learn to appreciate what you have while you still have it.
  15. Hey, new guy on the forums here. My first and favorite FE is Awakening (so much so that I played two playthroughs back to back totaling thirty+ hours in the span of a week). It was some of the best gameplay and music that I’ve experienced in a game, an all around great time. I started Birthright a while back, got pretty far, but never finished it. Tbh it just didn’t click with me like Awakening did. My most recent FE has been Path of Radiance, which I have enjoyed quite a bit and need to get back to (been busy with college, dealing with Covid19, etc.). I guess that’s about it. Thanks for letting me be part of the community!
