  1. 5.5 / 10 on Hard

    the good:

    • Boon in Axe and Brawling => Easy access to Brigand and Guard Adjutant classes, as well as easier certification for strong endgame physical classes like Grappler, War Master or Wyvern.
    • Learns Bombard at C+ Brawling. Hitting twice with added Mt and Crit is handy when unable to quad with gauntlet.
    • Battalion Wrath, useful for Vantage-Wrath build or after mastering Quick Riposte.
    • Useful personal ability that can benefit the entire team against an enemy with high Avo when planned around his positioning.

    the not-so-good:

    • Bane in Bow and Authority => More hassle to access Hit+20, Battalion Wrath and good battalions, especially if aiming for Wyvern. Although Jeralt’s Mercenaries is still a pretty good option if he stays grounded.
    • Relatively difficult early game, resulting from a combination of his unimpressive base (namely low base Spd and okay base Str and Def for a melee unit), lack of a personal ability that boosts said stats, and no rally or ability to boost his teammates’ combat performance in a more direct way.
    • Low Charm base and growth => Need to be more careful with enemy battalions if going for a Vantage-Wrath build.
    • No crest => Penalty when using Freikugel if going Silver Snow, which can be impractical but not a dealbreaker.
  2. 7 / 10 on Hard

    the good:

    - Useful Faith spell list with Physic, Warp and Restore that can cover most utility need.

    - D+ Faith at base, thus relatively close to get Physic to help with the early game.

    - Both Faith and Reason boons on a magic-oriented unit allow a relatively low investment build.

    - Minor crest of Cethleann. Occasionally raising Mt when healing is a nice bonus, even though not always reliable. No penalty with Thyrsus is nice too.

    - Good Resistance base and growth that can bait mages on Hard if needed.

    the not-so-good:

    - Not very useful personal, needing to sacrifice a turn for self-healing.

    - No useful unique skill or magic combat art.

    the mixed:

    - Reliable, although not exceptional, Reason list. Generally good base Hit, but no 3 range, and Excalibar’s niche can be overshadowed by relatively easy access to Bow.

    - Warp range can be a bit lacking in comparison to Lysithea, but definitely not a dealbreaker.

    - Limited magic class availability for male mages, but at the same time, Bishop is generally well suited for a utility-oriented unit.

    - Limited offensive potential with okay Mag & Spd growth, low Spd base, generally low Mt Reason spells, no magic combat art and no boon in weapon skills that have access to magic weapons, but not necessarily problematic for a utility-oriented unit.

  3. 8.5 / 10 on Hard

    the good:

    - Swift Strike with automatic brave weapon effect.

    - Minor crest of Cichol to occasionally prevent counter attack with combat art, although not as reliable as Seteth, is still a nice bonus.

    - Useful personal for attack/gambit hit rate, as well as dodge tank potential. Easy to maintain as well, either with direct healing, Dorothea’s personal in early game, or Goddess ring/sacred weapons later on.

    - Good boon and no bane with key weapon skills for a physical-oriented unit. Axe boon for easy access to Brigand and helps with Wyvern build. Lance & Riding boon makes Paladin a relatively low investment/high reward build, especially if going Silver Snow. Sword & Riding makes him a good candidate for Dancer as well.

    - Battalion Desperation. Situationally useful on Hard before learning Swift Strike to avoid eating a counter attack between two attacks.

    - Good, although not exceptional growth for a physical-oriented unit.

    the mixed:

    - +2 Mt special bond with Lorenz. Although having it as an option is good, the player needs to recruit Lorenz out of house. If Ferdinand goes for Wyvern build, Lorenz will also need to fly as his adjutant. Him going missing for a few chapters in Silver Snow can also be annoying.

    the not-so-good:

    - A relatively mediocre base, which makes him unable to pull as much weight as some of the other physical units in the early game, even though he can make up for it in late game.

Ah, that's an interesting take! Makes a lot more sense imo than Byleth suddenly becoming Cyril/Catherine post-timeskip and fits right in with VW's theme of seeking the truth. I still think the sheer number of times she talks about Rhea is a bit excessive though. They should've dialed it back at least for VW.

I initially thought the Rhea bit standing out in VW is because it’s in contrast of Claude’s presence. But I recently came across a post on Reddit I think, that claimed that Rhea appeared 11 times in Byleth’s dialogues in VW, while only 2 or 3 times in SS (It’s possible that I misremember the exact number, but the gist should remain about the same). I browsed a bit on fedatamine, and lo and behold, it mostly checks out. There are already 7 or 8 times when Rhea’s name appears in Byleth’s dialogues (not including other characters’) before she’s rescued, while in SS there’s almost none appearing in those same chapters.

I guess in SS, there’s Seteth who’s eager to rescue Rhea, and Byleth appears also concerned about Edelgard. In contrast, Byleth has more connection to Rhea than Edelgard in VW, and Seteth has less presence, so the role to emphasise Rhea’s importance falls to Byleth.

He doesn't necessarily need more development with Edelgard to want to side with her. That is one route they could go of course (and slightly preferable imo) but the other is play even harder to Claude's established not so positive view of Rhea. You don't have to have a  good relationship to ally with someone you just have to have a common enemy or slightly prefer one side over the other.  It wouldn't take much changes to go either route with Claude and the golden deer imo.

I agree that one doesn't need to have a good relationship to ally with someone. Edelgard and TWISTD is a good example. In the frame of VW, with all the surface evidence pointing to Empire doing all the damage and being the aggressor, as well as the Church now leading by Byleth who is on good term with him, and Rhea out of the picture, I'd say siding with the Church is the safer and more logical choice for Claude. For him to side with Edelgard without any established trust, I think there needs to be significant rewrite to expose the Church much earlier and probably make Rhea more desperately clinging to power. But at the same time, Claude still didn't side with Edelgard even in CF after she sent out the manifesto about Church's wrongdoing, which probably implies that he's dead set to achieve his ambition on his own terms and is not inclined to cooperation/share power unless defeated.

Despite all of its flaws I actually do like VW slightly more than AM. I know that's a bit of a hot take but AM is too all in on Dimtri and not enough on the supporting cast.  I have more issues with AM but since this is a VW thread I will leave it at that for now.  My biggest complaint with VW is probably a more personal one and one that people may not be agreed on by everyone.

Personally I think a route split might fit even better with the golden deer than it does with the Black Eagles (SS still sucks in my personal opinion).  Claudes whole story gimmick for the war is he is pretty much a neutral outsider and through out the game he seems to have issues with Rhea's actions at points.   As a more third party side in the war I think it would be more interesting if you get to choose what direction the outsider chooses to go in the war. Does the outsider leader go with the establishment (the church) or think things need to change like Emperor Edelgard wants? I don't think the outsider part of Claude was fully utilized and I think him having a decision on where to go with the war would be a way to play into the outsider angle more and give him more development more than just "lets stick with the church".  His alliance is also very divided on the topic in the game so either way he would have support in his country for it and have people with issues with the decision and that could be developed upon on more imo.  Even if you do stick with the church at least it should get more development on why.  And I think making a choice would give more development for Claude siding with the church.

tldr version: Basically I want more expansion on why Claude went the way he did when he is presented as the more neutral side.

I find a route split in VW an intriguing idea, like you stated. (As a side note, I'm personally even more down to an AM route split.) But I think Claude siding with Edelgard is probably a harder sell in the frame of VW, considering Claude's guarded and ambitious nature.

Because Claude wants to realise his dream on his own terms, I think it's reasonable to assume that Byleth is much easier to work with than Edelgard from his point of view. Claude spends a year with Byleth, which allows them to gradually open up and gain a certain trust with each other, even though it's not yet a full on trust when time-skip occurs. Byleth is shown to be not particularly ambitious. Moreover, when Byleth returns after 5 years, not only do they still retain the literal power of the goddess, but also got the political power of the Church passed onto them, which provides a reasonable power base for Claude to work with.

In contrast, Claude's interaction with Edelgard during White Cloud is much more limited, and relatively hostile in nature as well. In the prologue, Edelgard was annoyed that Claude ran away which resulted to her initial plan going haywire (either assassination or to make Jeritza the new teacher). During the two mock battles, their exchanges are mostly superficial rivalry. Edelgard did attempt to establish a connection with Claude after Miklan mission, but it ended up an impasse, and I think they both understood from this exchange that they are both highly ambitious individuals and don't place their trust or compromise easily.

Furthermore, it seems to me that TWISTD was actively trying to isolate Edelgard and damage Flame Emperor's reputation starting from Chapter 6, right after Edelgard reaching out to Claude and Byleth in their respective routes. Although Claude is suspicious of the Church and Rhea throughout the game, none of their behaviours on the surface are as shocking and horrible as the Remire incident, and I have the impression that he more or less made up his mind afterward Remire that the Church is the lesser evil in comparison. Unlike Byleth in BE, Claude in VW part 1 doesn't get any insider hint of the behind-the-scene struggle between Edelgard and TWISTD, nor does he have sufficient knowledge or life experience in Fodlan to have a clear grasp of the crest/nobility system at the time. Moreover, Thomas previously provided Claude tidbits of Church's dark secrets. Once he revealed himself to be this evil shapeshifting figure, it's reasonable for Claude to consider whether they were trying to use him to destablize the Church, thus pushing him towards the Church instead. Once the war breaks out, since the Empire in VW uses Demonic Beasts, which is generally regarded as abhorrent behaviour in-universe, siding with the Church or as part of the resistance provides the advantage of being more morally appealing and easier to rally around, especially there's a realistic chance to succeed once Byleth returns.

So for Claude to be able to side with Edelgard in the frame of VW, I think there probably needs to be some trust established between Claude and Edelgard during part 1, such as a certain support level reached. There probably needs to be some other events as well, that make either of them realise that they can't achieve their respective ambition without cooperation and are willing to compromise for it. Unfortunately in other routes, Claude is shown to rather abandon ship to survive and fight another day, while Edelgard is stubborn to a fault to do it herself.

Thank you very much. I'll the 3 routes a go with this.

    No problem. Have fun! 😄

By the way, I forgot that Sylvain's Dex growth is not stellar, which can cause accuracy issues with Axe if unlucky. Going with the brawling class progression to War Master is probably better, since they boost Dex growth, and gauntlets are generally more accurate.

  8. I'll give it a try. Here's my suggestion:

    BLACK EAGLES

    Edelgard: Emperor

Hubert: Mortal Savant (spell access for male mage but sadly no Dark Tomefaire), or War Master (with magic gauntlet Aura Knuckles, but might need to cheese the exam with his Axe bane)

Bernadetta: Gremory (double spells, can also play with Vengeance + Arrow of Indra I guess?)

Caspar: War Master (his personal compensates Axe's hit rate, he also learns Bombard with Gauntlet, so both can have merits I think)

Dorothea: Gremory (double Meteor) or Mortal Savant (Swordfaire + Hexblade & Levin Sword)

Ferdinand: War Master (His personal at full HP compensates Axe's hit rate. If you have DLC, he can grab Brawl Avo+20 from War Monk and make a Gauntlet dodge tank with his personal.)

Linhardt: Mortal Savant (spell access for male mage)

Petra: Mortal Savant (Swordfaire + physical sword and only need to grind/cheese for her Reason bane, Gremory seems too much work for little reward)

    BLUE LIONS

    Dimitri: Great Lord

Dedue: War Master (I prefer Gauntlet because of One Two Punch and his low speed & high strength in general)

    Annette: Gremory (double spells)

Ashe: War Master (probably Axe because of his boon?)

Felix: War Master (Gauntlet synergises with his crest)

Ingrid: Gremory (double spells) or Mortal Savant (Swordfaire + physical sword if you want her to do physical damage, or Swordfaire + Hexblade & Levin Sword if magical focused)

    Mercedes: Gremory (double healing spells)

Sylvain: War Master (edit for Gauntlet to compensate the potential accuracy issues), or Mortal Savant (to make use of his budding talent Black Magic Avo+20)

    GOLDEN DEER

    Claude: Barbarossa

    Hilda: Gremory (double Bolting)

Ignatz: War Master (his personal compensates Axe's hit rate), or Mortal Savant (he has both boon, and his personal compensates his good crit spells' hit rate)

Leonie: Gremory (double spells) or Mortal Savant (if you want to her to use physical sword + Swordfaire I guess?)

Lorenz: War Master (might need to cheese the exam with his Brawling bane) or Mortal Savant (spell access for male mage)

Lysithea: Gremory (double Warp) or Mortal Savant (Swordfaire + Soulblade & Levin Sword)

Marianne: Gremory (double spells) or Mortal Savant (Swordfaire + Soulblade & Levin Sword)

Raphael: War Master (I prefer Gauntlet because of his general low speed & high strength)

  9. I agree that there are quite a few missed opportunities in VW because of its many shared elements with SS, especially the intrigue among Alliance lords, the lack of perspectives from Almyra, as well as playable Judith.

I initially found Byleth’s dialogue choices about Rhea in VW confusing too, as their relationship to Rhea doesn’t seem to be as thematically important as in SS. Besides the “copypaste” issue, I now also interpret it as Byleth’s desire to learn of their origin, probably under the influence of Claude constantly questioning and trying to unearth Fodlan’s hidden history. I don’t think Byleth showed strong interest in pursuing their origin in CF or AM, if I’m not mistaken, and in SS I feel it’s framed as their emotional connection to Rhea that drives their action.

Regarding Dimitri’s unceremonious exit in VW, my opinion is relatively close to that of Dark Holy Elf. I think it showcases the chaos of war quite well. One can prevail and become the ultimate victor in a conflict like Dimitri in AM, or go down in flames in a historic showdown like him in CF, or die an undignified death and be relegated to the footnote of the history like him in VW.

As for Claude setting up the base in the monastery instead of Derdriu, and him not confronting the Church despite their seemingly diverging ideologies, I think they’re logical within the frame of VW, and are consistent with Claude’s pragmatic and opportunistic character, as well as his tendency to use people for his own benefit.

Besides the monastery’s strategic position in the war, Claude also wants to use the Church as the front, instead of the Alliance. Edelgard declared war on the Church, combined with Byleth’s reappearance, making the Church an appropriate rallying focus for resistance. The Alliance are also divided between pro- and anti-imperial factions at the time of the reunion, despite their unified state on surface. Claude choosing to fight the Empire officially as Alliance will probably leave the two factions no choice but to turn against each other, and result to an open civil war in Alliance.

Moreover, Claude wants to unify Fodlan in order to shape it in his own way. If it was the Alliance that leads the charge and prevails in the end, the Alliance lords don’t have strong ties with former imperial lands, and will likely divide the new territories and continue their infighting for their own benefits instead of efficiently enacting his plans. The Church already having a presence in former imperial territories, presents a better chance to succeed his ambitions. Rhea’s peaceful transition of power due to events in VW to Byleth, whom he trusts as a close friend, also makes it unnecessary for Claude to confront the Church or Rhea.

As for the final boss in VW, I too find slightly lacking in impact, especially when compared to CF. I’m guessing that since in VW, the banner of Byleth & Claude’s army is the crest of the flame, the devs intended for a confrontation of old and destructive, and new and hopeful? SS also has crest of the flame banner, but since it gives more focus on Rhea’s redemption and her opening up to Byleth, a final fight against a berserk Rhea kind of like Rhea confronting her own demons and coming out clean in the end?

Does the game say that classes effect growths?

I guess I won't worry about promotoing Byleth to a mage class if that's automatically.

If you want your Byleth to actually use magic in their exclusive story class, they will still need to have at least D rank in Reason and Faith to unlock their first spells, if I’m not mistaken.

To add a few additional benefits of changing into / taking exams of another class, usually classes has a minimum base stats which you can see here: https://serenesforest.net/three-houses/classes/base-stats/ . If a character manages to certify into a class (just succeed the exam, no need to stay in it), and if some of their stats are lower than the class’ base stats, they will be bumped to those base stats. This can fix some units if they’re somehow stat screwed, or if you want to bump up their weak stats such as Thief Balthus for his Speed and Dex.

Classes also has stat boosts which are shown here: https://serenesforest.net/three-houses/classes/stat-boosts/ . These stats are bonus that are added whenever the unit is in the class, but disappear if the unit change into another class. For example, Gremory has +5 Magic, so even if this class only has spell usage x2 as class ability, the +5 Magic stat is like a hidden Tomefaire.

By the way, Noble/Commoner class halves spell uses. Mages will want to quickly promote into Monk for full spells uses once they master the Hp+5 ability.

  11. For Dedue and Raphael, they learn Battalion Wrath at C Authority. So if OP happens to prefer focusing on their Brawling rank and has enough time for their Authority rank, mastering Warrior is not a necessity for their Vantage + Wrath build.

  12. Upgrading the four saint statues (and sauna if you have DLC) can give bonus when tutoring. There are also two knowledge gems in the game that can help skill and class mastery in battles.

Like Anathaco mentioned, you can attempt the exam without fulfilling all the requirements. As long as you have more than 30% chance, the game allows you to take the exam. The detail of the calculation can be found here: https://fe3h.com/classes . The TL;DR is that each missing rank (B to B+ count as 1 missing rank) reduces 20% chance of succeeding the master class exam, and a unit's Luck stat helps with passing the exam. Therefore, a unit with 2 or 3 missing ranks can still have a decent chance succeeding. You can plan the progression according to unit's bane and boon, and whether you want their specific combat arts/spells/skills from the according ranks.

Also, the master seals don't become readily available until Chapter 15, if I remember correctly. Before that, there are only five available in the main shop. So no need to rush for the entire team. If by the end of the game, you really want to rush for a certain unit, reloading a New Chapter save (the save at the end of the previous chapter/month) will reset the rng for exams in the current month.

I do agree, however I wish Part 1 would change depending on the route

White Clouds seems very geared towards Blue Lions for the most part, most of the early game missions are in the kingdom, Catherine and Gilbert help you out, and the lategame really focuses more on Dimitri's perspective of the Flame Emperor and his own sanity, so I really wish Black Eagles and Golden Deer had their own Part 1 with their own missions, but alas

This just makes White Clouds very tiring on the 4th playthrough

I agree that White Clouds can be tiring when replaying, and that BL seems very involved in the plot because of the early missions. Maybe some tweaks in map objectives could've been interesting to spice things up?

Story wise, I think GD does suffer a little when replaying WC. GD asks many questions about lore and Claude gradually undergoes some development in WC, but the answers and pay-off are mostly in part 2. Since Claude is a new comer and most GD students don't have strong ties with main players of the core struggle, they can't provide much meaningful information or insight, either.

For BE, I'd say replaying WC has the potential to re-enhance the experience, as the power struggle between Edelgard and TWISTD behind the scene throughout the year becomes more apparent with hindsight from previous play through, and there is an immediate pay-off for players to choose their stance before the end of part 1. However, this does cause the side effect of narrowing the focus on Edelgard and by extension Hubert, as all the other BE students are in the dark like Byleth, even though they can provide certain relevant background information.

  14. My favourite for now is Crimson Flower. It has elements that can be interpreted as humanity vs. god, rejecting predesigned fates, making difficult choices, characters from conflicting backgrounds becoming unlikely allies and eventually found family, taking a proactive role in a conflict, etc, which are all very appealing to me in a story. I also find the White Cloud part in BE quite fun upon replaying, as many dialogues take on a new meaning with the additional information acquired from previous play through.

Verdant Wind, I initially felt lukewarm towards it, but I appreciate it more now. Although it does have this misfits building trust and becoming found family dynamic that I like a lot, Claude initially dwelling at the periphery of the main conflict, as well as him often playing coy did mystify me. I'm also let down by the relatively superficial exploration on xenophobia and racism in the story, although I admit that it's a difficult topic to tackle in a video game. As I become more aware of Claude's progression from being a very guarded person to trusting his friends, as well as him being an ambitious dreamer who can seize opportunities when they present, I do gain more appreciation to his character and the overall story.

Azure Moon is a story that I appreciate when analysing, but also frustrates me when playing as a game. Its critic to blind devotion to chivalry, the drama of two well-meaning people with unreconcilable ideals clashing, as well as its subversion of a traditional hero's reactionary violence are elements that I love seeing in a story. The tragedy of a good-hearted but also myopic person, which is understandable from his backstory, ultimately preserving the system that perpetuates suffering, is also a bittersweet irony that I find interesting. However, when played as a video game, its lack of cathartic response to toxic chivalry culture does frustrate me at times, as I feel that I was actively working to preserve something that I don't support, while also being passive in the story because of the confinement of the game. Although this dissonance can be mitigated by pretending role playing as a loyal supporter for example.

Silver Snow on its own, I find it probably the least exciting, but it does provide a narrative contrast with Crimson Flower. In SS, the two main characters walk the paths predesigned by two opposing factions, which can be interpreted as either fateful second coming of historic showdown, or being tragically manipulated into enemies. Personally, SS evoked to me a certain regret of Byleth that things had to come to this clashing course, as well as a certain emptiness stemming from a similar outcome to AM.

  15. The different perception of Ingrid and Hilda's racism is indeed interesting. There are a few factors that I can think of that might have contributed to it.

    - Dedue and Ingrid are in-house members from the start, thus have a higher chance to be deployed and unlock their support chain. Cyril, on the other hand, is at the periphery of the main story and needs players to actively recruit him to experience more of his personal story.

    - Ingrid appears to be the more confrontational one in her exchange with Dedue, understandably because of her personal pain related with the topic, as well as her relatively straightforward personality. The situation is reversed with Hilda and Cyril. Hilda, while exhibiting racist behaviour, is more laid-back, while Cyril challenges her prejudice with his usual, relatively blunt approach. This reminds me of Dedue/Ingrid B support, where Ingrid asks Dedue why not speak back against prejudices towards Duscur people. I wonder how that would turn out (probably terribly considering some of Dedue's dialogues).

    - Various information that we players obtain in the game points to the general innocence and victimhood of Duscur in the Tragedy, while Almyrans are depicted as having a warrior culture and are more or less equally responsible to the contentious relation between Fodlan and Almyra (Cyril states in his paralogue that some of them launch attacks essentially to seek glory). This might make it less easy to sympathise with Almyran and to recognise racist behaviour towards them.

  16. @haarhaarhaar I’d like to thank you for your interesting and nuanced discussion on prejudice and racism, as well as your thread on Fódlan and race. I didn’t participate in either, because I don’t feel myself educated enough on this topic to articulate my thoughts efficiently, but your posts helped me to have a better grasp of the differences on a systemic and individual level, and I generally agree with your point of view on the issue.

  17. 31 minutes ago, Barren said:

I wanted to correct myself on something, I thought that Edelgard's personal ability post timeskip would stack with rally resistance. It doesn't. Because like Dedue's ability, it's a self rally when you wait so my bad on that. Still, the possibility of having Resistance +2 and her +4 Res when waiting still has her taking magic hits decently. Though you can access a similar combo with Dedue much earlier on Blue Lions

This got me curious, although I doubt if it'd be an efficient move, does Ward or Pure Water stack with her personal ability? For example, using Pure Water in the first turn, then in the next turn have her wait and cast Ward on her?

  18. My least favourite so far are Annette and Ashe. I don’t actively dislike them. It’s just that with other characters, the more I read their supports and dialogues, the more I find them interesting, while my impressions on Annette and Ashe remain stagnant. With everyone else moving up, they unfortunately drop to the bottom of my list as a result.

  19. Rhea claims that Jeralt was a soldier of the Kingdom in the event at the end of Chapter 9: https://fedatamine.com/en-us/scenarios/108 , if Rhea/Byleth C support was not reached previously. Although this does contradict with Rhea's claim in her C support that Jeralt "belonged to" a "band of mercenaries" when they "fought alongside the Knights of Seiros" (https://fedatamine.com/en-us/supports/Byleth/Rhea/C).

  20. My favourite characters at the moment are:

    1. Bernadetta

    2. Marianne

    3. Edelgard

    4. Dorothea

    5. Ferdinand

    6. Felix

    7. Leonie

    8. Hubert

    9. Lorenz

    10. Lysithea/Ignatz/Mercedes/Petra/Caspar (uh I can't really decide among them.)

The DLC characters, I find all of them very fun to hang around. But maybe it's because of their relatively lack of support chains, I find them slightly less integral to the whole story and have a harder time to bump them up in the list.

Claude, Seteth, Linhardt, Manuela and Cyril are characters that I feel more or less neutral towards but are also very interesting to look into their personality and arc.

Sylvain and Rhea are complex, fascinating characters that I can't yet bring myself to comfortably embrace their negative traits, but they're definitely very strong and well-written characters in my eyes and kind of my favourite characters to "hate" at the moment.

  21. On 8/22/2020 at 8:15 PM, RainbowMoon said:

OP mentioned that they're pairing off everybody except Leonie though, which means they're most likely gonna keep their couples glued together on the battlefield to build support. In that case, there's no real need to make Dorothea a linked attack bot since nobody will end up fighting alone.

Like @Shanty Pete's 1st Mate mentioned, linked attack bonus can go up to 3 units excluding adjutant. Therefore it’s an extra benefit when the Dancer is dedicated to dancing. I agree that Dorothea has a pretty good spell list, and her Riding bane is not ideal for a Dancer candidate, but since OP already has other female mages that can fill Dorothea’s various magic niche, her Meteor support in BE routes is a niche that I think quite unique and worth considering to some degree.

  22. CF late game has a few maps with heavy movement penalty to horse units. You may want to dismount these units, or prioritise fliers/infantry classes in some cases.

Since you already have a few female mages with various utility spells, I think you can afford to consider Hubert as a Sniper with Magic Bow+ (Usable from Bow B rank and arcane crystal can be obtained when feeding cats & dogs) for pure magic damage output and better range than his spells. You can go Monk->Mage->Archer->Sniper. Since he also has a proficiency in Bow, once he gets into Mage, you only need to focus on Bow and Authority for this progression.

Regarding Dorothea as a Dancer, I personally quite like her dancing in BE routes, as equipping Meteor grants wide range link attack bonus. Sword Avo+20 does gets wasted if using Dorothea this way, but I think it’s a trade off worth considering.

I have tried Dark Flier Ingrid and she was fun but unless you pump magic into her she would have similar issues in terms of her offensive growth. Though her spell list is pretty decent. She does get Physic which can be nice on a flier and Blizzard, Thoron, Fimbulvetr are decent spells but you would want either Caduceus Staff or Thyrsus if you want Ingrid to be more effective as a mage unit. Also, getting her to master Warlock to get Bowbreaker imo is worth going for if you're going to make her a Dark Flier since you'll just be spamming magic anyways

Thank you for the tip! ^^ I was considering going Valkyrie for Uncanny Blow before ending at Dark Flier, but Bowbreaker with Dark Flier is an interesting option too. Either way, like you said, I won't expect her to be the heavy hitter of the team.

  24. Thank you for the detailed topic! I too am considering doing FK Marianne with FL for my CF run. I was also looking for alternative builds for Ingrid, and going magic CA looks pretty fun for variety since I play on lower difficulties.

By the way, I'm not sure that Marianne can benefit from Might+3 with adj. Bernie, since they don't actually have a support chain, thus can only have the basic Avo/Hit +3. The same goes with Hilda x Dorothea I believe.
