  1. Bone, 4th-wall Formal Hector (FE7), Isadora, Joshua Optional Theme: A Novice Magic User --- [spoiler=COMPETITION RULES - PLEASE READ] The contest theme is optional. The theme is provided as an additional option and is not mandatory. No large "full custom" (made from scratch) areas, parts, or pieces. The final result should be made of and identifiable to areas from the source mugs. If you feel like your entry may be considered "questionable" to others, you are allowed to post work-in-progress screenshots or other visual proof of your process. Only use the given set of mugs; other mugs are not allowed. You may, however, elect to use fewer than the amount of given mugs. (Ex: 4 mugs are given, but you only use 3.) Recommended color limit: 16 (15 on your mug +1 for background). This is rule is flexible, but being cautious with your color count as a general rule of thumb for good pixel art. You are allowed to deviate from the standard FE color choices if you wish to do so, as well. Don't vote for yourself, or I will cry sad tears devoid of mod power. Seriously, if you think none of the other entries are worth a vote, please select the "abstain vote" option. Hosts may enter contests As a public poll is used as the voting platform, hosts receive no benefits or unfair advantages from running the contest. Only 1 entry per member. However, you may edit your entry while the contest is still active. Please edit your first post, or quote the most recent entry you wish you submit for clarification, or the wrong entry may be submitted for voting. VOTING: A public poll (users can view voted results) will be put up once the entry period has ended. Voting consists of 2 categories: 'Best in Theme' (single choice) and 'Favorites' (multiple choice). 'Winner' is the popular vote for 'Best in Theme' and the runners-up are taken from the most popular two from both voting categories. If there is overlap (e.g. 2nd place is the same participant for both categories), a weighted average of the total votes will determine the remaining runner-ups. The winner of the contest will choose the next theme and a mug, and runners-up will choose the remaining mugs once the theme has been decided. If you have been selected to choose a mug for the next set, please try to limit choices to actual portraits and not shopkeepers, blank/placeholders, or dragon Idoun. PARTICIPATION NOTES: In the past, there has been a lot of conflict surrounding what does and doesn't constitute proper splicing techniques. This is not the venue to repeat that argument (if you're interested in it, please look at old rounds between 50 and 65). Please remember to allow participants the freedom to experiment and find their comfort zone in splicing. Give them votes when you believe they're successful, but do not use their entry as a platform to tell the world what you don't like. If you have any questions or concerns, please PM the current host. --- Deadline: Monday September 5th, 2016
  2. Yoshi's wins Best in Theme with 11/18 votes and also edges out Popular Choice with 66% favorability! He'll get to choose next theme and a mug, and runners up will get to each choose a mug. Kudos to all who entered.
  3. Sounds pretty good to me. I particularly enjoy that (a.) going easy on her led him to being injured, which gives a consequence to carry on into the later parts of the story (b.) main lives due to side killer's inexperience in making sure the job was done, not to her (apparent) choice (c.) the grandparents passing on their grief to the granddaughter being an (extreme) example of a relatable thing (parents giving their children ideas / an emotional call to action, which may they take on themselves even if they don't understand the whole why). (d.) The situation you chose makes a nice opportunity to leave the readers thinking without leaving a plothole. Maybe the bounty was because the parents had done a bad thing. Maybe they were innocent? That doesn't matter to her (or the main storyline) and leaves the readers something to think about even after the story's drawn to a close.
  4. Dying Hector(FE6), Klimt, Dozla, Moulder Optional Theme: Knight In Rusty Armor --- 2ish days to vote!
  5. I think attempting to murder Main would have the most impact (when you can do both, why not?) unless you've really played a forgive-me card (anything's valid). Either way you'd need to give secondary the proper situation so it feels credible. Some more questions to mull over: - At five years old (Kindergarten/Preschool age), would she remember that situation? With what clarity? - When did she make the decision to find and kill her parent's killer, and why was the choice made over others? (How big a chunk of her day is dedicated to reaching that goal?) - How (and with who?) did she spend those 13 years growing up? What sort of values are molded into her? - How would she verify that he was actually the murderer and not just pulling her leg? - Would she care about being certain Main was telling the truth before acting on it? (How impulsive is she? How well known is her background?) - Was the act of Main taking her in on Main's adventures an act of remorse for past actions or lucky circumstance? What is Main trying to accomplish by telling her his connection?
  6. If you're talking with the ones on Pixiv, can't you just volunteer to pay and see if they change their response? (tumblr is super-fickle, seeing a commission open for certain artists feels like winning the lottery sometimes, and apparently I can't dig that deep to even find the examples/their art style changed. :/ ) Basically https://www.tumblr.com/search/fire+emblem+commissions reddverse looks close, but with a tad less linework than your example, and gzeidraws seemed to have more the linework you were looking for but a tad thicker. There's plenty of artists on here (SF) that do commissions, too. Nayuun, mewiyev, and maybe Samias(?) comes to mind, but I'm not really sure who's open for commissions or if they're the style you're looking for. (Sorry if I missed anyone on here.) I feel a bit awkward plugging whoever came up and matched most recently on a search/my feed, so please just hunt around.
  7. If you have a really specific need it's better to understand who you're wanting art from and finding the right opportunity (understanding how willing they are to take requests/what they like tackling, if you can pay forward a bit by commissioning, you knowing them and them knowing you, etc), than to blanket spam strangers in hopes of getting some free work done. I think I've seen a few artists that can do that particular style but it's on commission basis (random guess without specifics it'd be in the $35~60 range).

  12. I think the responses in your project thread sum things up pretty well. You're best completing what you can on your own, then coming back and knowing exactly what you want to ask for. Otherwise, advertise the details of what you want: you're not revealing any big secret, it'll put less effort on anyone who'd want to actually help you, and it'll distinguish you from the rest of "I have a big project give me special mugs because I want some even though I may or may not do anything with them" threads. If you want polished work done privately (and sometimes quickly) you can offer money as incentive to your request. Or you can splice/recolor opensource/vanilla mugs just enough to get yourself by the 'fresh and new' feeling without putting a ton of effort in.

    Spriter's Resource

(This could probably merit its own thread.) It doesn't take much computer power to run the programs you can make splices with (just a bit of memory space for the big source sheet and some screen space, then Gimp/MSPaint), so maybe you can bum a free computer off someone who's looking to upgrade? Aside from that, Inchworm (3DS) is good for pixelart. It seems promising for splicing as it's pretty much MS paint with some animation features, but again to import any source mugs you'd need a computer(?) I really recommend Colors for doodling/painting (even though you can't splice in it, it's pretty much a mini-Photoshop for 3DS/Vita/WiiU). There's also a camera feature so you technically could camera->trace->takeAdifferentPicture->splice in the new picture. It's not pixel level like Inchworm but might satisfy the mixup factor a little more? I'd say try out any medium/program you can get your hands on and see if there's anything else you like.
  14. Up in the rules it says: So Joshua's hat and any other material you got from mugs outside the set given in the first post would be against the rules here. It would've been a good entry for the Mug Description contest but that's a different contest entirely.

Maaybe? (R.I.P. trying to fit colors in) Also dropping the splice entry and another finished request here.
  16. Would you be interested in some fine ferret pelts?
  17. Coby's wins Best in Theme with 5/10 votes and Popular Choice with 90% favorability! Coby will get to choose next theme and a mug, runners up (DuwaShuwana, Eise, and Nine - IX) will get to choose a mug. I'll be offline until next week so I'm blindly hoping one of you can get the next round started...or someone can volunteer...or the contest can take a break...
  18. Ephraim, Erika, Rebecca, Kyle Theme: Tomboyish Female Lord --- 2 days to vote!
  19. Yeah, whatever sci-fi, plus I think in general the contest is pretty lenient with how things are interpreted. I offered up the extra bit in case someone needed more of a lead to work with. orz I don't have much time atm to put something in
  20. Should still be 16 colors there Whoops 13 colors there, but a bit friendlier to the yellow.
