  1. I hate Jeigans, but not Oifayes. Jeigan, FE6 Marcus, and Zealot can get permadeath and the army won't lose too much. Oifaye, Seth, and Titania - and, to a lesser extent, FE7 Marcus - don't have the crutch problem to the same degree as the first few, and provided that they aren't overused and thus keeping everyone else low-level due to EXP drought, can continue to be a valuable asset throughout the entire game.
  2. I know I just edited the last post, but what the hell, I feel like making a new one now. Chapter 19: turncount: 5. Sent most of my troops down towards the corner where Riev's at, although Eirika, Ephraim, and Innes hung back to protect the throne,. The only reason I made it through this is the crapton of Killer Lances and Elixirs I bought beforehand. Gilliam got the kill on Riev, ending the chapter early. Ephraim: LV20. HP 35, STR 15, SKL 14, SPD 18, LCK 15, DEF 14, RES 7. Dozla: LV8.64. HP 49, STR 22, SKL 15, SPD 10, LCK 6, DEF 11, RES 8 Tethys: LV10.17. Except for mighty glacier Gilliam, jack-of-all-stats Ephraim, and physical Goddess Amelia, I mean. And seriously, EVERYONE has crappy RES! Including the damn Bishop! He's just manly enough to make up for it, though.
  3. Presuming that I cook up a sprite and ask someone what is meant by "frames", can I be in it?
  4. Most shows I've only seen in English, and I liked them well enough that I never went looking for the Japanese version. Evangelion and Full Metal Panic! fall into this category. And then there are some shows I've wound up seeing in both Eng and Japanese. In these cases, I usually still prefer the English dub - these being Hellsing, Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Cardcaptors/CardCaptor Sakura, and GaoGaiGar. In the case of Hellsing, Code Geass, and Gurren Lagann, I almost unilaterally prefer the English dub. The Japanese version's aren't bad, per se, but Japanese Kamina sounds too old, and there's just something... special about Crispin Freeman that brings to Alucard to life on the screen. Lelouch has both of those issues - his Japanese voice sounds way too old and deep, and Johnny Yong Bosch captures the character in a way that just blows my mind. In the case of Cardcaptors, I watched an early episode and thought the Japanese voices were extremely high-pitched and annoying. However, upon watching another disc later in the season, that wasn't a problem, despite having the same actors. Conclusion: the early Japanese episodes are annoying, but the later ones aren't bad. I still prefer Eng, though, since that's what I grew up with. For GaoGaiGar, I actually LOVE both versions. I like the English voices slightly better, but the dub was never finished. Buso Renkin is kind of a mixed bag. I've seen it in both versions, and I have to admit that some of the English voices don't fit very well, while some are spot-on. However, the same is also true of the Japanese dub. JAP Kazuki and Tokiko are better (Tara Platt sounds a bit too old in this case, although she pulls off other, similarly-aged characters rather well), but ENG Papillon and Captain Bravo are better, because let's face it. Papillon's Japanese voice actor does not sound like a sickly teenager on the verge of death. Spike Spencer DOES. And then makes said sickly teenager awesome.
  5. I didn't mean that L'Arachel had a crit percentage of 45 in stats. I meant in practice. She crits more than her stats would lead you to believe. Very RNG blessed like that. And she tends to be fast enough that Anima tomes being lighter is more or less irrelevant, since she can double-hit pretty much everything. And pretty much the only thing that can double-hit her would be something with a Brave weapon.
  6. Re: Monica: My mental image of her is an improbably sexy woman who was brought back as a zombie, and is still hot, but due to not being properly alive, can only function as Orson's bedmate.
  7. Yeah, but some are more cold-blooded than others. Take Raven compared to Lucius, for instance.
  8. I was remarking on how Mage Knight can be gotten from either a Mage (Lute and Ewan) or a Troubadour (L'Arachel), and was explaining my opinion on why it's the lesser promotion alternative in either case. Thing is, though, at least in my case, Valkyrie L'Arachel crits... probably 45 percent of the time with a Shine tome. But this is neither the time nor the place to discuss one Class over another and to fight with each other about our preferences, so I shall not speak of this again.
  9. I just got Jak II yesterday, so that's slowing me down a good bit. On the other hand, I'm already 2/3 of the way through it, and I'm about to have another 3 hours dedicated to Sacred Stones. I've also had an idea for a fanfic of Sacred Stones. Kon already knows about it (she being my sounding board). After I finish this draft, I'll probably see about starting it. re: Valter critkilling Kon's Ross: I wish you could see my face, because it's contorted into an odd mix of a sympathetic grimace and all-out laughter. And now an update. Chapter 16: turncount: 9. Everyone goes into the same area. Garcia and His Holiness are the first to see combat. Gilliam gets hit by a Horseslayer, and laughs in the idiot's face before taking him down with a critical. One bloodbath later - courtesy of Amelia and Moulder - Gilliam hits Orson with a Steel Axe, and then Garcia crits him with a Killer Axe. However, Eirika and Tethys have already moved this turn, so I'll have to wait another one to end the chapter. I would have really liked to get the Tomahawk from the chest, but it gets away from me. Chapter 17: turncount: 9. "Do not falter! Show them the might of Frelia!" says the neutral mook. And then they proceed to get completely and utterly pwned. lol. On account of having (currently) the same RES as Moulder, greater attack power, and Lyon having less DEF than RES, I send the Goddess of Destruction to deal with Lyon. Truly, this will be the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny! Of course, Amelia is as wise as she is almighty, and so brings His Holiness and Gilliam along for backup, knowing that the former's manliness and the latter's DEF might come in handy. Syrene proves herself to be surprisingly useful. In the sense that she can kill enemy units without giving me a penalty as long as I don't recruit her. Beyond that, she still sucks. Dozla also gets a crowning moment of competence when he solos the quartet of Heroes and only has to heal twice. With Brave Axe in hand, the power of courage will make him super-competent! At least until it breaks. Amelia gets Lyon with two Javelin hits, and dodges a Fenrir. Enemy phase, Lyon tries to Fenrir her again, but she laughs as she activates Great Shield. In response, she nails him with a Steel Axe, tanks another Fenrir, and then finishes him off. Just goes to show that you can't keep a good Goddess down! Chapter 18: turncount: 9/50. Yeah, this one was just plain stupid, to the point that I had to use Seth, Saleh, and Syrene to get through it at all. Not happy about the penalty AT ALL.
  10. Since nobody appears to explained it, a yandere is best summed up as "sweet and lovable on the outside, clingy murdering psychopath on the inside". Also His Manly Holiness Bishop Moulder I has asked that I add one more thing. I LOVE THIS THREAD.
  11. Ooh, I like Skywatcher, Drifter, and Medic. Also, sweetie, thank you for introducing me to that. I think about a month or so has just been removed from my life. Because I'll be spending it on that game.
  12. Mage Knights are (in my experience, going from caps and general ability) mostly inferior to Sages, Valkyries are better because all Light tomes have a crit bonus that offsets the slightly lessened power. Paladins are (again, in my experience, going from caps and general ability) inferior to Great Knights in terms of stats, and their speed/skill advantage isn't really enough to offset the difference, especially since they can't take advantage of it with Axes, which are the most physically powerful. All they have going for them is two extra Move, which in my eyes is a poor trade. Swordmasters get a crit bonus. Assassins get a chance for instant kill. 3 times one damage is just three damage. Instant kill is, well, instant kill. I believe I have made my point.
  13. I have a sudden urge to break out into song. Since my dad is asleep in the other room, I should probably refrain from doing so. Also, His Manly Holiness Bishop Moulder I would like me to announce that he does not tolerate the shenanigans of Orson's mooks, and will curbstomp any he should happen to come across. Amelia doesn't have any announcements to make, as everytime she speaks, Magvel cracks in half from the sheer epicness of her every word.
  14. Assassin for Joshua, Wyvern Knight for Tana (she'll Pierce her way right into your heart!), and Valkyrie for L'Arachel. There are very, very few Classes I will not touch if given the choice, and would never wish them on anyone else. One is Mage Knight. The other is Paladin.
  15. I, for one, like the trainee units, especially once they get to their second promotion - Berserker Ross and General Amelia, in particular, are my Saint and Goddess of Destruction respectively, while Druid Ewan is my Archduke of Epicness. Anyway, while I was thinking about a possible FE8 fanfic idea - unrelated to this, but my train of thought got derailed and wound up here - I wondered about other trainees. We got Pupil, the Anima/Dark trainee; Journeyman, the Axe trainee; and Recruit, the Lance trainee. However, for the other classes, there are promotion trees that could have been, but weren't. What about a Sword trainee, who can become either a Mercenary or a Myrmidon? A Stave/Light trainee, who becomes either a Cleric/Priest (of the Stave-using sort) or a Priest (of the Light tome-wielding sort)? And what about a Flight trainee, who goes on to ride either a Pegasus or a Dragon? And that is why I created this topic - to find other trainee fans, and discuss with them possible class names for these three new trainees, as well as possibly creating characters out of them.
  16. That would be Hayden. Fado is Eirika and Ehpraim's dad of the General class who got killed before the prologue. Anyway, update! Chapter 15: turncount: 15. Sent Amelia to deal with Caellach, and everyone else down towards the South. Moulder promotes to Bishop. If I had even one more magic user I'd have made him Sage in a heartbeat, but with only one mage to go on, Slayer is going to come in handy later. Is it just me, or does Moulder's Bishop sprite make him look like a Jedi? Anyway, Gilliam and Garcia resume the slaughter, until His Holiness Bishop Moulder I hits Valter with a Lightning spell, and then Dozla nails him with a critical. Using an Iron Axe, if anyone cares. Ephraim and Eirika go deal with the reinforcements on the other side of the map's bottom edge. No sooner do I prepare to give Amelia reinforcements to finish up Caellach than she dodges him and double-hits with a Heavy Lance (it's what she had available at the time). Clearly, I should have had more faith in my Goddess of Destruction. The only surviving enemies at this point are reinforcement Shamans - faceless heretics, to be struck down by His Holiness. I just had an evil idea, although I'm not going to touch it until this draft has been completed first.
  17. I kinda figured that, which is why I didn't penalize myself for the kills Gerik made in his chapter. Yes. Yes it does. And I'm having a massive shitstorm of trouble with the current chapter, spent two and half damn hours having to do one reset after another - wait. Maybe if I send Amelia to deal with Caellach instead of Gilliam, send Gilliam to the south, and have Garcia deal with the pegasus reinforcements? But damn, that won't do much to solve the problem of everybody and their mother targeting Duessel and Knoll - wait, if I send Dozla and Eirika over that way to begin with... hrm.... hrm.... HRM..... okay, this just might work. Not having Duessel around is kinda screwing me over. Starting to wish I'd gotten him instead of Dozla, but spilt milk and all that. Time to try out my new strategy.... right after I get some breakfast. Sucks that Amelia, Eirika, and Moulder are the only units with decent speed, Eirika's STR is only up to eleven... Garcia and Dozla have decent/good STR (Garcia moreso), but kinda suck with survivability. Gilliam's the tankiest unit I've got, but he's still in extreme suffering of SPD screwage. If I were to get another Speedwing, it's actually a toss-up on who I'd use it on - Gilliam, Dozla, and Garcia ALL need it so they can more reliably double and evade hits, but Gilliam's got probably twice as much DEF as the other two. Ah well, at least I consistently get to promote Moulder by turn 3 or so. There is also the Master Seal in Chp 15.
  18. Now for a proper update from yours truly. Chapter 10: turncount: 17. While Eirika goes down to recruit Innes and Tethys, Gilliam, Garcia, and Amelia go on a killing spree. A few sellswords try to off Moulder, but of course they can't even touch him, he's so manly. Innes, that bastard, makes me waste an extra turn trying to recruit him. Garcia promotes to Warrior, and resumes his killing spree. Marisa dies, but she was undrafted anyway so it isn't a problem. Chapter 11: turncount: 14. Penalty: 10. Moulder, having been given a Torch staff, finally gets a chance to gain enough experience points to start catching up with everyone else. I left Amelia on a forest near the beginning, so she'd be able to mop up the reinforcements that come from that way and soak up the experience. A good two or three levels were to be had. L'Arachel recruited Dozla, and was then attacked. And then killed. Ah well, such is life. Chapter 12: turncount: 11. First, I rearrange my units so that Amelia is at the front. I send her to get the first kill, then have Tethys give her another turn. From there on, I have Amelia charge North, into the thick of enemy lines. Kinda like Leeroy Jenkins, except cute and badass and all but invincible. The rest of my army proceeds normally, taking care of enemy monsters that Amelia passed by. Chapter 13: turncount: 4. I send Garcia and Gilliam to form a wall against the main enemy forces, while Innes and Eirika work on securing my center. Once that's done, I send Amelia out as a spearhead into the enemy center because a) she's my second best tank, even unpromoted and b) she's still a little behind in experience, although she's catching up quickly. I'm almost surprised at how quickly this was over. Amelia maxes out her STR at LV17. Chapter 14: turncount: 23. Sent Dozla off to the side where Rennac is, while everyone else goes into the main area. Dozla actually had about an impressive string of dodges for a while, though he still needed Gilliam to provide backup. Had Innes stick in the first corridor to deal with reinforcement Archers. Amelia reaches LV20, and is now being promoted to General. Stats: Eirika: LV 20, HP 29, STR 11, SKILL 19, SPD 19, LCK 15, DEF 7, RES 6 Gilliam: LV 9.24, HP 51, STR 21, SKILL 14, SPD 12, LCK 11, DEF 25, RES 9 Moulder: LV 19.78, HP 33, MAG 14, SKILL 12, SPD 15, LCK 3, DEF 8, RES 9 Garcia: LV 4.15 Warrior, HP 44, STR 24, SKILL 17, SPD 10, LCK 10, DEF 10, RES 8 (kinda disappointing, overall) Amelia: LV1 General, HP 39, STR 22, SKILL 20, SPD 19, DEF 20, RES 10 Innes: LV 3.94, HP 33, STR 14, SKL 14, SPD 16, LCK 15, DEF 11, RES 9 Tethys: LV6.50, HP 23, STR 1, SKILL 2, SPD 16, LCK 14, DEF 7, RES 9 Dozla: LV4.22, HP 46, STR 20, SKILL 14, SPD 9, LCK 5, DEF 11, RES 7 Also, Moulder and Gilliam have a C support. Damn, this next chapter is going to suck for the turncount, since I'm probably going to end up playing it more like a defensive seige than a seek and destroy. Fricken desert....
  19. Who've you got on your team again? That chapter was almost too easy for Gilliam the Gallant and Garcia the Great.
  20. You mean, in real life? I dunno. Hahaha, maybe now you'll appreciate infantry lancers a bit more when you have them. MUWAHAHAHAH! 'Tis a shame you cannot benefit from the nigh-unkillable Moulder the Manly! Seriously, he should've died about ten times by now and he hasn't. Finally time to promote Garcia. Since STR is his best asset, I'll play to that and make him a Warrior.
  21. I know. I even use Kyle and Ross most of the time (which, in the case of Kyle, is kinda wierd because Cavaliers aggravate me, although he makes an excellent Great Knight). My Vanessas, though, more often than not tend to be kinda lame. Before anyone (most probably me) starts getting huffy (in my case, again), let's just agree to disagree and drop it. Yomiko Readman is the main character of the anime Read or Die - wait. wait wait wait wait wait. thinking..... Kinon, from Gurren Lagann? The glasses and long brown hair threw me for a loop. GODDAMNIT INNES YOU BASTARD.
