  1. Did that come from the bridge? We're going toward it? WhyarewedoingthisthisissuchabadideaWHY? The prospect of seeing monsters and other assorted things-that-should-not-exist was no longer (as) exciting, but that was okay because apparently the group was going to go toward whatever that scream originated from. Even in the context of exploring an ancient murder-castle, that seemed like a very, very bad idea. But if everyone else was going to go through with it... Maybe it will be less horrifying than it sounds, she thought, since apparently the part of her mind that was willing to entertain such an idea was also unaware that it was on par with 'what could possibly go wrong'.
  2. "Aw, but if you sleep through it, you might miss-" Whatever response Sonia had planned was interrupted by someone shoving past her, briefly taking her off balance. "Hey-" It wasn't until she fully recovered that she noticed a visibly upset Vriska in the wagon. Calm down, calm down, you did dumb things when you were her age, anger won't help her any more than it did you... "Ingverd's right, though. See if you can change his mind about you, and if that doesn't work, just avoid him. No need to give him any bait, right?" Not that she expected either of them to be the type of person to let something like that go, especially not if they were still at it after... However long it had been. What are they even fighting about, anyway? There went any hope of finding an extra space in the wagon, though.
  3. "Well, if you need any more blankets or anything... " Lucky for them, the wagon would keep (most of) the wind out. And Ingverd, at least, didn't seem bothered by it. "The cold's not so bad. At least it's not raining, right? We can still get a fire going if it gets worse." Snow couldn't possibly be as bad as rain, could it? ...Or Ingverd and Valha could use one another for warmth. Sonia couldn't help but smile at how comfortable they were with one another. "That's one way to beat the cold. Maybe there would be more birds down here if they could do the same?" Joking aside, it must be nice...
  4. Even if you're playing casually, it just takes so much just to get her to be usable compared to the rest of the cast, which tends to make an already underleveled faction fall even farther behind. The DB can't really afford to have that much siphoned into a unit who's pretty much guaranteed to be mediocre at best.
  5. Three weeks on the road and they could finally see the tundra. Simply put, the sight was stunning; well worth the monotony that preceded it, and Sonia would have stopped on sight even if the wagon hadn't. Even after she managed to collect herself, her first thoughts were about whether she could possibly do the scene justice in her journal. Now that they had stopped, it seemed like the perfect chance to see if anyone else felt like walking - the scenery couldn't make up for however many hours she had spent trying to keep up with horses, and it would make for a perfect opportunity to try to capture that first view of the tundra while it was still fresh. Of course, once she took a look inside of it, the extent to which some of them were suffering inside didn't help her conscience: it made sense for Makin to have trouble with the cold, but the birds, too? That seemed weird, considering the feathers. "Are you three going to be alright?" If (the equivalent of) a mild winter chill was this bad for them, the tundra itself might end up being more dangerous than whatever was supposed to be in the castle.
  6. This thread is so unbelievably positive

  8. Sonia took a deep breath and tried to mentally prepare for the journey - moving from place to place in mild weather was easy, Karstell was the stuff of legends. How do you even prepare yourself for something like that, anyway...? The answer was apparently to sit anxiously for a few moments, only to notice that many of the others had already left and, in the interest of not being left behind, she thanked Sara and grabbed some stray toast in one swift motion that ended outside. There would be time for that sort of introspection on the road, hopefully. The boss's company all but immediately grabbed her attention after exiting the inn, if only because the elf (Half-elf?) stood out even compared to the motley band of mercenaries. Another guard?
  9. "I don't really know how it works, either, and I've only had to fight with it a few times before joining up here." Try not to think about those times, even if it's just going to happen more now that you're fighting for profit. "I mean, not enough heat to light a fire, but enough to burn a person? It's probably explained in some piece of scripture somewhere..." Perhaps it was just those unpleasant memories leaking through, but the implication that light magic was only really useful for combat was not lost on Sonia. It stung, slightly. "Whatever the answer, it's nowhere near as useful as healing would be. I can't see the demand for that ever changing." Of course, healing probably had similar limits, but at the moment it seemed... well, magical. An old friend? Probably a lover or something, by that reaction... "Could you go back to that, if you needed to? It seems convenient, to only have to worry about rare magic." That somewhat mindless comment only struck her as insensitive after the fact, and she immediately started to backpedal (by digging herself deeper). "N-not that it's worth the cost, I mean. Still, it must be nice to have a body again, even if it came back just in time to visit the coldest place in Ostorav. Is that good timing, or bad?" Maybe a bit too good, considering the stories about that place...
  10. The ghost has a sense of humor? Huh. "Any time. If either of you need anything, I'll help in any way that I can." Until that day, though, all Sonia could do was follow the conversation, still surprised at how well that pair of near-opposites got along. Seems like a decent person whether he's guilty or not... "Huh? Oh - Light's not good for that. A lot of flash, very little heat. If I had known how things would turn out I would never have learned it." Only half joking, after one too many nights without so much as a spark for warmth. "At least those two will probably be willing to share a bit of fire... Actually, how does that work for ghosts? Can you feel temperature now?"
  11. Framed? And for something that might be high profile enough that they might still be after him? "If you were really framed, then maybe-" Sonia fought the urge to flinch away from the Rainbow Terror as she approached and greeted them both. Don't panic, she's not some brightly colored murder-demon or anything. Relax. "Hi. Er, not yet, just trying to get to know people until Sara's less busy." Which probably would be happening right around now. Oh well. "Last chance for a warm... well, anything before we get there, right?"
  12. "Wait, what? What did you do to get the nobles that... Er, sorry, none of my business." That sort of thing would probably be a touchy enough subject under better circumstances, especially if he was still trying to find the 'truth' himself. "You should be fine as long as they don't have a reason to look twice at you, though. I mean, do many of the guards and nobles know you're still here? Because I can't imagine them connecting some random flesh-and-blood mercenary in a small company to someone they probably know is dead." Though if his name provokes that much of a response in them even now, they just might... Which only brought up further questions, since (to Sonia's very limited experience), he didn't seem like the kind of person who would do something bad enough to tarnish his name so thoroughly. "Well, whatever happens, I hope you can find peace." Is that the right thing to say for something like this?
  13. Right, the name. "Er, sorry. Sonia. Is that how the ghost thing works, though? What happens when you remember everything?"
  14. Sonia found herself slowly floating away from the mercenaries, who by now had started to break themelves into smaller groups. Still not good with crowds... Except if she was going to be with them for the foreseeable future, she'd have to start somewhere. Wait a minute, is that the ghost? Can he really do that, just un-undead himself? One way to find out. "Hey, you're Kadin, right? You look... Solid. How are you?" Probably not the best first impression, in hindsight. Better than asking what it's like outright.
  15. Morning came and the last thing Sonia wanted to do was leave her bed. After however long on the road, the two days she spent not sleeping on dirt and stone wasn't nearly long enough, and she figured that there was no need to rush out when the others probably felt the same. A few more minutes wouldn't hurt. Of course, that was two hours ago, and now she was probably at the point where she was going to get left behind, which still did very little to motivate her. Where were we going, anyway? Karstell? ...Karstell! And there it was. Within minutes, she was up and ready, hastily scanning the room for any leftover belongings. Not that doing so took very long, either. A few moments later, she was out of the room and at the bottom of the stairs, uncharacteristically excited at the prospect of adventuring (and only just noticing the new people). "Good morning!"
  16. Are you sure she's not half snake? Her chest is still smaller than Cap's at least? I've got nothing
  17. You don't have to be a comics fan to hate Rob Liefield. You just need to have eyes.
  18. Just based on the little I've played of it, it seems like it's a solid game that really just needs a little bit of modernization (something on the level of Shadow Dragon?), so long as its unique mechanics are preserved. Certainly underrated in the sense that it tends to go under the radar compared to 4 and 6.
