If the Democrats want to stop that shit, they need to be better at building a narrative that speaks to people by class rather than race as well as starve Republicans of political ammunition and let them sink in their stupid civil war over the election and always demonstrate when it is the Republicans destroying and assistance to regular people.

Trump being removed from office and even if he gets jailed doesn't solve anything, it's just a reprieve from that stupid clown.

To starve republicans of ammunition at this point is to merely not speak. And even then, they can stir shit out of thin air. DEFUND THE POLICE is a shit slogan, but that was made by progressives. At this point, the Democrats just need to ram in whatever they can and hope Joe Manchin or Susan Collins votes with them, while they try to win Georgia.

Messaging/slogans are a problem, but considering how there's propaganda out there simultaneously saying Biden is basically a Republican and how Biden is a socialist (both of which he scoffs at), at some point I wonder if it's not messaging that's the problem but the people and the media.

Part of the issue is that if you listen to a 30 minute talk about policy from someone, the only way it will get aired en masse in any fashion is if you spend 1 minute shitting on Trump. I know I've literally had to debate people on policy positions stated by the Biden admin itself and in various speeches; you even saw in the debates and in town halls that he was talking about clear policy! There was a lot of clear messaging! Hell, the campaign even out and out rebuked the tagline DEFUND THE POLICE. But if you're a Fox News watcher, you still get lies about how Biden is a socialist who wants to eliminate the police. Even though Biden is wholly against defunding or eliminating!

At this point all we can do is get out of this pandemic and do a shitload of campaigning for local politics and national politics by extension as well. Like, holy fuck are people stupid. In any other country, Trump wouldn't get 25% more votes for 250k dead Americans. At this point, if Georgia doesn't work out, all focus has to be towards elections. There's nothing that can be done outside of the executive going to the very edge of the power it has -- something that is limited in a hostile Senate.

Although, *yeah*, there's things out there that they need to change the debate on. Court packing? No. Court rebalancing. They actually tried to deflect court packing by accusing the Republicans of court packing -- which is literally what the Republicans have been doing -- but that's still not what gets aired.

Regardless, Trump being jailed implies the restoration of the rule of law to some extent. It's not the endpoint, but it shows actions aligning with what amounts to oversight and justice. You can think of it as part of creating a presence of justice.

I could see Trump threaten to run as an independent candidate in case the Reps don't nominate him, seeing how it would hurt the elephants way more than the donkeys. It's not like he gives a shit about the party.

    i hope he does this

Not at all. He didn't need to get rid of COVID, he just needed to show he was at least interested in doing a good job of handling it. Trump fans often bemoan how COVID cost Trump his re-election(and Trump critics at least see it as a lone benefit of the pandemic) but that's not quite correct. COVID cost Trump nothing and it was instead Trump's insistence to handle it in the worst way possible that cost Trump.

People are quick to rally behind a leader during a crisis.

    yeah you right

Also trump's "rally around the flag" effect was like a 4% bump that he lost almost instantly after

all he really needed to do was wear a mask like the fucking rest of us...

Honestly in that case, I expect the Biden supporters would react just like the Trump supporters are now and will be in Biden's corner claiming fraud. "Biden's a standup guy, if he says something's wrong then there probably is, not like I'd ever trust Trump, it's very believable he'd do something like this," would be a lot of thought processes.

Yep. Honestly, I would probably be the same -- I had it in my head that Trump would have to rig the election to win. With the benefit of retrospect, that is pretty false; Trump would've had to eliminate COVID to win, and frankly if the vaccine were announced before the election rather than after (think of it like an anti-Comey, in my head) I think Trump might creep up on AZ/GA/WI and make this election far more hotly contested.

But 306-232 is, according to Kelly-Anne Conway, a landslide, so Trump can't fight that.

Nope.  I'd rather save the country than save American Hitler.

idk man, if Biden rigged the election that would be Hitler-y.

It's a tough question to answer given that it contradicts who Biden actually is. If Biden is the civics option and he rigged the election, we are truly fucked. Do we take the mini-fascist who tried and failed to rig the election, while allowing his political opponent to fully rig it?

It's a pretty bad decision no matter how you look at it. And that's why I would just tell someone I really don't like and make them file the whistleblower complaint.

  6. Thankfully bills like that have zero chance of getting passed. A lot of reparations is complete investment into black communities and full integration, including the increase of property value by orders of magnitude. But also, probably get massive pay raises due to discrimination, complete reduction of housing value inequalities (through, basically, reinvesting in infrastructure, etc), and so on and so forth. I'm high, so you know, decriminalization of drugs, legitimizing drug businesses and employment/benefits, removing any stigma of using drugs and investing in rehabilitation for addiction.

Just basic shit that would help everyone, but farmers get significantly more benefits than the average black person. There really is a lot of aid in America it feels like, just that if you live in the suburbs or the cities you don't see much of it (unless it's related to planned parenthood).

I feel like we already figured out the meta decades ago. Resign from the presidency, get pardoned by your Vice President. We call that the Nixon Nullifier. Pardoning yourself would just be...tacky.

    nixon's vp resigned too

he got pardoned by his speaker of the house

  8. I have no fucking clue what to do when 40% of this country insists on a coup to subvert democracy.

But... I mean, the fact that both R Senate candidates in Georgia have done insider trading in the wake of the pandemic and been completely unpunished means that our elections aren't exactly working, either.

  9. I think faithless electors are too scared to vote against their population. Jon Favreau etc actually explained how a lot of this is just theatrics, starting with admissions from people in the Trump admin (they stated it's just theater) to the fact that the worst case scenario leads to President Pelosi. The fact that D's have the house bodes well for us.

  10. Yeah, this isn't to talk down to etrurian emperor but Trump deserves persecution and it doesn't matter what Joe Biden does when the same crowd will just bitch at him or about him anyway. Peace is the presence of justice, not the absence of conflict and all that.

  11. I remember four years ago this was a "THIS IS HOW HILLARY CAN STILL WIN" thing.

Not gonna happen. Even when the news circulated about potential fuckery this election, it didn't come to pass.

Mildly unpopular opinion, the far-right in this country resemble their icon; they're giant pussies.

  12. I have a lot of hope for this hypothetical Biden presidency.

    Check the senate races: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-election-forecast/senate/

I also love Chuck Schumer's statement.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/sahilkapur/status/1320869180011352065

    Anyway, back to the Senate

    Spoiler

    AZ will flip

    CO will flip (D+2)

    IA might flip (D+2-.5)

ME will very likely flip (D+3-3.5)

    MT could flip (D+3-4)

    NC might flip (D+3-4.5)

    AK might flip (D+3-5)

    GA1 might flip (D+3-5.5)

    GA2 might flip (D+3-6)

    SC might flip (D+3-6.5)

    TX might flip (D+3-7)

    AL will flip (D+2-7)

So... Democrats are basically only "guaranteed" +1-2 seats. Vote.

The other thing on there that caught my eye was that more Democrats and Democrat-leading independents originally wanted Sanders as the nominee than wanted Biden. And that made me realise that primaries aren't FPP in the US: they're some degree of preferential voting. As people drop out of the race, any given individual may lose the chance to vote for their first preference, so they have to go down the list. So, uh... could you make that system more formal and more general, please? I reckon it'd help your democracy recover.

Yeah, this is ideal. The other issue is closed primaries. Independents basically resign themselves to no say in the process to nominating a candidate. I encourage people to not register as independents.

I kinda like the rolling primary style, but it screws over solid blue states hard.

I'm wondering, and this isn't something to be discussed lightly, maybe blue states should just secede and form their own country.

If you can construct a way in which New York and California can be one country without including Idaho, Texas and Utah, then by all means let me know. It just becomes a weird Pakistan vs East Pakistan/Bangladesh with Kashmir in the middle. And nobody wants that.

    Fucking ghoul.

Literally the only reason he gets elected is because he's a republican in a red state. But considering how vulnerable Lindsey is, it's not a given.

Unfortunately SC's been trending much faster than KY. if you go from VA down to GA, it's a literal spectrum that's shifting bluer and bluer. GA and SC are in play for president and SC is in play for the senate. KY is divorced from that but it might seep in, however I would wager KY would vote closer to Ohio or Alabama than along the southern coast states.

I could just be making that up, but my reasoning is pretty much that the country gets redder the further you are from the coast, and the coast is shifting so it'll take a bit for it to move inwards.
