  1. Vacation ate my life. Already have those. Just haven't had the time to finalize the descriptions for them. I have heard a different possible reference for the Swanchika. It was on a Japanese site, so I don't know the English spelling of the word (likely S[w/v/u]an[ch/t][i/y][c/k]a), and I have yet to verify it (hence the placeholder). There's also a possibility of it derived from "tron", Latin? for thunder or another. Thoron's elemental analogues Bolganone (derived from "volcano") and Tornado are both also natural disaster-type phenomena. Will add that... eventually. Note that my entry for Shamshir includes both the lang reference and the hist reference. Yune is [yun'nu] in Japanese, which doesn't quite match. Will do. The standard name of the Futhark rune is "mannaz", so I'll use that as the translation. As for FE4 arena enemies, I won't bother with them for a while unless someone provides me with the Japanese kana before I manually check it out. They also need to be in their exact order of appearance by chapter and unit type (melee/range). Speaking of order, I've noticed some mistakes in my ordering of a couple of the entries. When I get around to updating the list, I'll be sure to provide an exact log of my edits, Vincent. EDIT: Oh, and Vincent, you missed a line break in the list of abbreviations between IT and geo.
  2. Marthur: I'll look into those. Quite a few of them are arguable, though (i.e. many male characters have female references). And, who/what/where is "Odin" in Akaneia? Captain Falcon: I'll look into those, too. And, if enough of the crap can be reasonably attributed (I notice a lot of places in Begnion have to do with fish), they can be added. Nathan Graves: The romanization "Navarre" was chosen as a fan translation due to the fact that it is a reference. However, I have a preference for using people over places for people references, though, I guess that'd be obvious...
  3. Ice Dragon is indeed interested. Except Ice Dragon needs more free time. And moonspeak is perfectly fine if you can understand it.
  4. My best OMG moments... When I figured out that Laura could solo Ike and the mass of tigers around him. The Thief just south of your starting point in Shin Ankoku Hard Mode 5, Chapter 1.
  5. Explained in FE6 in the chapter against Jahn. And the fact that Nils and Ninian seem to take after their mom instead of their dad.
  6. Okay... finally done with everything in the existing article, minus a few I chose to remove. If anyone cares to contribute... or even reads this thread... Here's information I want: - additions: give a legitimate source; for many characters (and other entries) that have common names, I'll require an argument that you can reasonably attribute the reference with the character (i.e. good luck arguing for "iron sword"). - corrections: give a legitimate source - typos: yes, I do care - accents: if I accented a word wrong, I'd like to know; also, position of macrons in Greek since I'm kinda too lazy to look all of them up again. Here's stuff I don't want: - anything that has a placeholder, except in Ereb's places list, I'm just too lazy to come up with a description at the moment - character or item names in other langauges, unless it's a blatant mistake; I'll get to those eventually Entries I could use help with: - "Phuj" (FE5): I recall seeing this term used somewhere, but I can't recall where. - "Katti" (FE7,9,10): I recall seeing this one, too. - "Urdia a Raglard"(?) (Hasha no Tsurugi): Magough's ultimate attack; I don't know what it's supposed to be or what language it's in; the kanji roughly translates to "god breath tempest". - "Valfleche" (FE9,10), "Valaura" (FE10): What the hell is the "val" for?
  7. Laura makes a great wall in 3-13. Vize gets all her stats capped, because it's so easy with those growths of hers. Elaice owns Senerio, and Topuck, and every other magic-user in the game, save Laura.
  8. BD's been too busy with studies and playing Mabinogi... I don't think she'll be joining for a while.
  9. Definitely a good college. Ranked higher in the world than it is in the U.S. (because the U.S. rankings are fail). Only problem is, since it runs on the quarter system, all of my friends on the semester system have their vacations at a different time, and my vacations and theirs coincide for less than half of the total vacation time, meaning less of a window for reunion gatherings...
  10. Go ahead. I'll probably give this thread a post-notice-bump every time I update it again... which, seeing as it's now my winter vacation, might get updated frequently, I hope.

  15. I guess this thread goes here... I started this project some forever ago, and Vincent has been kind enough to post it under the Articles directory on the main site... and update it every time I pulled a new list out of the gutter. So, now I've been getting too lazy to use my email, and I've been trying out random other ways to organize this mess... and here's what I now have. Clearly, it is no longer just a mythological references list, but I'll call it that anyways. Feel free to do whatever you want with the new list, Vincent. As I get more motivated, descriptions might get longer, and new items will get added. There are also a lot of placeholders for things that I am going to add soon but am too lazy to add at the moment or that I have yet to find a reference for (namely Ereb's place names). Feel free to contribute or correct any of my mistakes (be sure to include a source for either). Notes to self - Fix order problems. - Standardize article. - Finish placeholders. - Urudia.a.raguraado ticks me off. 16. To be more precise... here's the entire list of playables: [Official JP] [Fan translations from the top of my head] - [Official EU English] [Notes] Marth - Marth Frey (Freyr) - Frey (I originally, on FESS at least, picked the name 'Freyr' due to mythological reasons; I never expected the 'r' to actually stay, as it never did for any Norse references except in 'Fimbulvetr'.) Abel - Abel Kain - Cain Jeigan - Jagen Gohdon (Gordon) - Gordin Dohga (Doga) - Draug Norn - Norne Sheeda - Shiida Rif (Riff) - Wrys Oguma - Ogma (Mythological; get over it.) Barts - Barst Maji - Bord Saji - Cord (I forget which one of Maji and Saji became which of Bord and Cord.) Kashim - Castor Daross (Daros) - Darros Jurian (Julian) - Julian Rena (Lena) - Lena Nabarl (Navarre) - Nabarl Marich (Maric) - Merric Matis (Machis) - Matthis Hardin (Hardain) - Hardin Wolf (Ulf) - Wolf Zagaro - Sedgar Roshe - Roshea Biraku (Villuck) - Vyland Wendel - Wendell Ricard (Ricardo) - Rickard Athena - Athena Banutu (Banetou) - Bantu Seazer (Caesar) - Caesar Radei (Raddy) - Radd Rojar (Roger) - Roger Jorjue (George) - Jeorge Maria - Maria Minerba (Minerva) - Minerva Rinda (Linda) - Linde Jeik (Jake) - Jake Midia - Midia Tomth (Toms) - Dolph Mishelan - Macellan Thormas (Thomas) - Tomas Boha (Boa) - Boah Horace - Horace Beck - Beck Astria (Astoria) - Astram Paora (Paola) - Palla Katua (Kachua) - Catria Aran (Alan) - Arran Samson - Samson Cheine (Chainy, Chainey) - Xane (That's totally pronounced 'zane'.) Etzel - Etzel Est - Est Tiki (Chiki) - Tiki Rolence (Lawrence) - Lorenz (That's totally pronounced 'lorentz'.) Hymir - Ymir (That is in fact the 'proper' romanization of his name.) Elice - Elice ? - Nagi (Her internal name is 'Naga', but the Japanese is clearly 'Nagi'.) Gato (Gatoh) - Gotoh My comments... - Marth should have been changed. It would have been awesome. - Cain is agreeable. Agreeable means I am indifferent. - Jagen is stupid. - Gordin is stupid. Gordon would have been agreeable. - Draug is moronic. That is worse than stupid. - Norne is unnecessary. That is not as bad as stupid. - Shiida is stupid. - Wrys is moronic. - Ogma is agreeable. - Barst is moronic. Switch two letters ftw. - Bord and Cord are too funny to not like. - Castor is stupid. - Darros is unnecessary. - Julian is agreeable. - Lena is agreeable. - Merric is agreeable. - Matthis I couldn't care less about, much less his name. - Sedgar is amusing. - Roshea is the same as undoing Ruthea to Lucius. - Vyland is stupid, but I don't care about him anyways. - Wendell is unnecessary. - Rickard is agreeable. - Bantu... I couldn't care less about. - Caesar... same as Bantu. - Radd is stupid. - Roger is agreeable. - Jeorge is plain moronic. - Minerva is agreeable. - Linde is moronic. - Jake is fine. - Dolph is amusing, but stupid. - Macellan is dumb. - Tomas is dumb. - Boah is dumb. - Astram is meh. - Palla fails. - Catria also fails. - Arran is unnecessary. - Xane... fails at life. - Lorenz is stupid. - Ymir is agreeable. - Gotoh fails. Verdict: Xane is the worst. Not exactly a mistranslation. It was just not what IS was thinking. A 'mistranslation' would be on the magnitude of [tito] to Tate (cough) or higher.
  17. Hai~ I can always fix those errors. I still have the original spell effect lying around in the same folder, hidden away so no one will ever get it. That Ice Dragon sprite... was my first ever sprite... Drawn pixel for pixel fully custom from head to toe. I know the body looks decent... but the head... ugh. I have redone the head dozens of times since then... and it still looks like utter fail. I asked you first. Er... Anna did.
  18. Laura. She soloed Ike. One downside of those high growths of hers, though: she needs more stats capped before it's advantageous to use BExp. How? Laura only has 15 Capacity. Five of that is used for Shove, and Elite requires 15.
  19. What a pity. If I gave any of my units weapons for that chapter... all of those Laguz would've been dead. I noticed this morning... for some odd reason I was actually using Oscar on my latest run. And his stats were terrible. Kind of like my Ike this run, too.
  20. To my knowledge, FE9/10/11 have not used Huffman. LZ77 is the only one in real use... and the (rather lame) RLE used for some of FE11's sprites.
  21. I see that you are probably correct. The old one had pseudo alpha-transparency problems with the non-dark-blue background. Yo. Now if only Volume 2 would be released sometime while I'm still alive. ^^ Hi Ace~
  22. I gave Wayu the Ambush-Cancel combination on my last run. She more or less never got hit except by bow-users. In general, for the two skill combinations, I try to get them on characters that already have one of the two (Nephenee gets Brave since she already has Anger, Wayu gets Cancel). Though I've once done Ambush-Cancel on Mist for some amount of combat utility (it ended up working decently well, at least). I never found Shooting Star to be particularly useful in this game. Each hit does only half damage and uses up 1 point of durability (given the enemy hasn't yet died), making it not as powerful as a critical and more wasteful of weapon uses. The only mastery skills really worth getting are Aether and Sun, and anything that a character already has (i.e. Soanevalcke with Shooting Star, Tibarn with Wing Shield, etc.). Senerio and Elaice are both great, too (both come early, and their weaknesses (Senerio's Str, Elaice's Spd) can easily be fixed with BExp). Plus, few late-game enemies have decent MDef in this game (unlike in FE10), making Sages great as a class in general. If you're playing the JP version (which I doubt you are) and don't mind exploiting easy-to-perform glitches, you can make a 255 critical Thunder tome for one or both to have (I reserve mine mostly for 1-shotting Makoyar, Mwarim, Homasa, and Gurormeru, since it's just a bother killing them conventionally). As for characters to use in general, pick the ones that you like. There's no way to go wrong in this game. At all.
  23. On promotion to Paladin, you can pick the second weapon type. Axes are the best due to massive power, good or great accuracy in the hands of most of your units, and not weighing you down as with previous games. I'd only really give Oscar bows if you want to use the 3 brothers triangle attack, which isn't that interesting... or useful. Wayu (Mia) is perfectly fine to use. Hell, I almost never use any of the other Swordmasters. Zihark is always too much weaker than Wayu when I get him (might have something to do with BExp abusing, though). (Zihark comes at level 10 when, by that time, Wayu is around level 15.) Stella is good. Use her. Kevin and Oscar are also good, or so I'm told (Oscar always gets shit Str for me, though). I've never tried Makarov; I hear he's good, but he comes at a level lower than I am comfortable with. I occasionally have used Geoffray since he also has Elite. Paladins are pretty much broken. Their mastery skill, Sun, makes them even more broken. As for skills, try the skill combinations Ambush-Cancel (Vantage and *looks up English name* Guard) and Brave-Anger (Resolve and Wrath). Or, for fun, Ambush-Brave-Anger on either Ena (if you trained her) or Nasir.
  24. A work of legend by Misk. Brings back good memories of the halcyon days of FESS. Also reminds me of how terrible of a spriter I was back then. May the rule of Anna begin. Hi. I remember you. It's a Blackavar. Hai~ I remember you, too. Music scores are always welcome. ^^ If Mabinogi never existed on this side of the Pacific, I might actually be one. Blackavar's legendary Eltoshan sprite. I see you still have it. Good memories.
  25. * Ice Dragon casts Permafrost on Mage Knight 404. Mage Knight 404 takes 40 damage. Yo. And Mia's shoulders look too stiff.
