  1. The only pairings I'd call overrated are the Corrin/siblings ships (especially Fem!Corrin/male siblings), but honestly you'll bury me before I ship those.

That's really it. The only one I think would count is usually just done for eugenics and the eugenics are pretty good so I can't fault them.

  2. Watching the analysis has made me legitimately scared for Pokedex diversity. Corsola, Luvdisc, and Slowpoke on top of Meowth, Gengar, Salamance?

And then there's the whole fact that the trainer had seen six pokemon and pokedex completion was 1%. I'm hoping this just means the starters appear on all the islands' individual pokedex's (it wouldn't make sense for each island to have completely different ecosystems). That's the only thing I can hang on to, because in the name of everything that's sacred I do NOT want a Pokemon game with 600 pokemon in the base dex.

So did N. Yet N had personal reasons and bigger goals for fighting; I don't think you can completely count Lillie out.

True... I forgot about N. (How could I do that?)

If that's the case then it looks like I might like a mainline pokemon game again. Now you've got my hopes up Vashiane, perhaps synergy could let them build a deeper story than usual. Actually understanding these what pokemon feel could bring up a whole slew of new interesting topics. Possibly even what it means to synergize with a pokemon. I don't watch the show so I don't know what synergy entails exactly, but I think it would be interesting if they delved into what that means for the trainer. From what little I do understand it sounds like the trainer is so in sync with their pokemon that they actually mentally synchronize. (If that's off it kind of throws everything I'm writing off.) Think about what type of person could synergize with a ghost type, would they be resentful at most living people? Detached from most of life? Or a normal type, would they be extremely ordinary? Meek? Good at getting along with everyone? Imagining the psyche of people who can synergize with different pokemon is a very interesting topic to me.

Of course they could do the usual pokemon thing where it just means you're the best of friends, and they never go any deeper than feeling a pokemon's pain.

Oh man, I'm trying not to get too invested in the idea in case it's proven wrong or doesn't happen but this is opening the floodgates. Especially about the types affecting the person they sync with?

I'm buzzing about this idea, I'm getting my notebook.

  3. I don't know about you guys but I'm really interested in two things: 1. all the references to Johto and 2. Lillie.

There may be references to all of the past Pokemon games, since this game's coming out to celebrate an anniversary, but the Japanese-styled villages and the pagoda (and the clouds) seem to hint a bigger connection to Johto than any other region so far. It's possible that maybe a lot of the Alolian citizens have ancestors that moved here from Johto, bringing their culture with them, much like real life.

Because of that, it's also possible that the park with the pagoda is a homage to the pagoda in Johto that's used to summon Ho-Oh or Lugia, and maybe, you can also summon and catch Ho-Oh or Lugia from that pagoda.

It could be possible that maybe that's the region your player character comes from (although your mother looks like an Alolian native and also looks more like the olive-skinned, brown-haired trainer than the default one).

As for Lillie, well, her disliking to battle is a thing that prevents her from being a trainer. But then they brought up the synergy thing from the anime, and maybe that's why she hates battling. Because she's synergized with her Pokemon before and felt their pain, and thus feels guilty about making them fight. It's also stated that Lillie likes to read - maybe she's well-read about something vital to your mission like the legendaries or the lore of Alola. Or, even synergy.

I almost wonder if synergy ties into the evil team's goals. Could they maybe try to synergize with the legendaries and convince them on their own will to plunge the world into darkness, rather than capturing them and forcing them to.

I mean. These are all theories, but it's something to think about.

  4. A button? I have an old jacket that's missing a button.

*uses Vashiane as a replacement button*

    Finally, I've found my purpose!

    whaaaaaaaaaaat

nah man you can't argue jk rowling's logic

    gryffindors are the cool people

    hufflepuffs are the insignificant people

    slytherins are evil

    ravenclaws are just smart idk

I'll love HP when I'm eighty years old but I will never be okay with how the Slytherins were treated in canon.

  5. Found out this with supposed evolutions of the starters: http://heavy.com/games/2016/06/pokemon-sun-moon-corcoro-leaks-starter-pokemon-evolutions-real-fake-fakemon-rowlet-litten-popplio-evolutions-new-megas-pictures-photos/

What do you guys think? A user says it's fake because they don't have the typing in Japanesse.

I think it's fake as well - not just for the typings being in English but also

    1) Poppolio's evolution looks very much like Oshawott and they wouldn't do that

    2) Litten's pose looks identical to Espeon's.

  6. Japanese buildings in Hawaii is significantly more realistic than a desert and ancient ruin just north of Manhattan.

    Pokémon is weird like that.

Also I'm really hoping Lillie winds up being a villain, possibly as a spy on Kukui. Probably getting my hopes too high, but eh.

    THIS WOULD BE LIT.

Let me not going crazy with theorizing though, that didn't end well for Kalos.

  7. The legendaries typing seems... Less than stellar.

    [/ba dum tss]

Huh. And the sun IS a star. Now things make a little more sense to me. Thanks, Vash.

I still think that now, Fire/Steel would've been better than Psychic/Steel. Even if we already did get Heatran. But we also already have the Beldum line and Bronzor line for Psychic/Steel, so neither typing is unique.

Although, I guess I can partly blame myself for disappointment, because I was thinking I was going to catch a Fire type for the box legendary in my game, and Fire is my favorite type...

Not to mention Jirachi, which is also Psychic/Steel, and Hoopa which is also Psychic/Ghost (technically Ghost/Psychic but #semantics).

... Also Lunala is both 4x to Dark and Ghost.

    Irony is a wonderful thing.

  8. Why are there Japanese style buildings in some of those pics? Hawaii isn't a Japanese territory. Did anyone from GameFreak actually visit or research this place? If it's supposed to be based off of Hawaii, it should have Hawaiian style buildings, plants, etc. Those islands don't look like Hawaii either, though that isn't that big a deal since many of the actual Hawaiian islands are really small and probably wouldn't suit a Pokemon region.

And someone pointed out that Solgaleo is weak to Fire type moves. That also makes no sense if it's supposed to "devour the sun." GameFreak really didn't think much of this through, did they?

EDIT: Oh, but that QR code thing sounds really neat!

I thought the Steel typing was weird too, but let me direct you to this.

It's a bit of a long article, but tl;dr, stars are not just comprised of hydrogen and helium but also out of various metals, and some of these stars, known as Population I stars, are particularly metal-rich.

In fact, our own sun is a Population I star!

  9. I'm really feeling the watercolor vibe coming from these pictures.

That may be from the site used to enhance the image rather than the actual art style itself, if they used the site I'm thinking they did.

But it does make for a really nice effect!

Also a bit of an aside but:

So Hau's favorite treat is very much a real thing: malasadas are a Portuguese doughnut hole coated in granulated sugar that was brought over to the islands.

And they look delicious so I'm getting a recipe and making some for myself stat.

  10. Hmm... “the beast that devours the sun" and “the beast that calls the moon".

Main villain team trying to use either of them to bring about eternal darkness, anyone?

Simply calling the moon won't bring about darkness, since the moon doesn't generate its own light.

Unless they like... knock it out of the sky, but you'd destroy the planet with the tidal fluctuation instead of achieving eternal darkness.

  11. Pokemon Sun and Moon's official site has some more details regarding the legendaries:

Apparently, Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam disregard the target's ability. And Shadow Shield reduce the amount of damage you receive from an attack when the pokemon is at full health, so it seems to be similar to Multi-scale.

    Ooh! Very nice.

Although I did just realize that Lunala will probably have a 4x weakness to Ghost. Yikes.

However I'm not surprised at all that Solgaleo and Lunala are Psychic-types, since the other sun and moon Pokemons were psychic as well.

But with the news that they're psychic + the Rotom Pokedex... I have a wacky theory.

... What if they can speak to us?

I'm going to quote your news summary because the one in the OP I threw together kinda sucks.

    Anyways, as for theories:

-Hala is quite possibly the older, retired professor; he probably has more know-how on regional lore and such, while Kukui is the "pokedex completion" guy. I kinda doubt Kukui will have another trio for you to pick from.

-Predominantly new Pokemon seems likely, due to wording and the Salamance/Gengar used as test dummies for the legendaries' moves in the trailer.

-Thinking the same thing. Female main rival hype.

    -Interesting; no real comment.

-Once again, I have no real idea here.

    No problem!
