  1. Where did you get the idea that I'm an Opera user? I am a Google Chrome user. I haven't used Opera in a long time. o_0 I was thinking you might have me confused with PhilOnDez, but he appears to be a Google Chrome user as well, unless Opera and Chrome somehow have the exact same user interface... Besides, I said my experience was similar to his, not completely identical. For example, I do not recall seeing a Hitachi banner ad in my encounter with Adverstitial, I remember seeing a solid greyish white webpage with the "Redirecting Back to Content" thingy in the corner. Unfortunately, I do not have a screenshot of my own. Survival instincts kicked in before I could even consider taking a screenshot.
  2. I used to turn off AdBlock Plus here on SF, but then, while I was browsing a topic (in Far from the Forest no less...), an ad from "Adverstitial" started covering up the whole webpage, similar to what this guy had experienced: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/916373-pc/66914770 I'm sorry, but I'll have to remove SF from my AdBlock Plus "whitelisted domains." I don't want to run into another potentially malicious ad like the one from Adverstitial ever again. Sorry...
  3. For me, definitely Sumia! <33 *hides from Bearclaw* And here is a drawing by Itsuki-Snowflake that is rather suitable for today:
  4. I ran across a video of zookeepers killing a "surplus" giraffe: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/video-1082972/WARNING-GRAPHIC-Zookeepers-kill-surplus-baby-giraffe.html I tried to watch it, but bailed out as soon as the video started loading because I just didn't have the Gemstones to watch a giraffe get killed. So instead, I decided to do a Google search on "surplus giraffe" and found this New York Times article: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/10/world/europe/anger-erupts-over-danish-zoos-decision-to-put-down-a-giraffe.html?_r=0 I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, why get upset about a single giraffe when countless chickens and cows get slaughtered all the time? The whole "compared to the lives of thousands" thing, amirite? Besides, at least the zoo used his meat to feed the lions. On the other hand, what if the whole "genes were well represented" logic was applied to humans?...
  5. Have you checked the SpotPass characters? Doma/Duma might be there, but I haven't checked the Gaiden portion of the SpotPass roster myself.
  6. Two days ago, I read an article about a couple who brought their 8-month-old child to a fancy restaurant and how people reacted to the situation: http://www.whio.com/news/news/national/crying-baby-disrupts-fancy-restaurant-debate-ensue/ncn2s/?icmp=cmgcontent_internallink_relatedcontent_2013_partners2 At first, I decided that restaurants should be able to set their own policies with regard to whether or not they allow customers to bring their babies, that way, diners who want to bring their babies and diners to want to stay away from babies can both have restaurants to choose from. (Yes, in the specific news story above, the babysitter canceled at the last minute. All I have to say is, the couple should have had a backup plan...) But then I thought, "If it is ethical for restaurants to discriminate on the basis of age, would it be ethical for restaurants to discriminate on the basis of race?" I would imagine that most people, including myself, believe that restaurants discriminating on the basis of race is wrong. Race shouldn't determine who we are as individuals, and "there is a broad scientific agreement that essentialist and typological conceptualizations of race are untenable." But isn't it logically inconsistent to consider banning babies from entering restaurants acceptable but a ban on the basis of race unacceptable? (Fancy restaurants that ban babies might argue that their lack of babies gives their dining rooms a certain "atmosphere," but then again, a hypothetical Ku Klux Kitchen might make similar arguments...) Then I thought, "If it's unacceptable to ban on the basis of race, would it be acceptable to ban smokers?" But then I realized that smokers can still go to smoke-free restaurants as long as they don't bring their cigarettes, smoke, or have a noticeable tobacco odor. I've concluded that it wouldn't be logically inconsistent to find a race-based ban unacceptable but a ban on smoking acceptable because a race-based ban is a ban on BEING while a ban on smoking is a ban on DOING. Where does that leave babies? Proponents of banning babies might argue that babies have a much higher propensity to loud crying and throwing temper tantrums than adults, but can we really blame the babies? I mean, by their very nature, babies are less developed, both mentally and physically, than adults. Why not let babies in as long as they're well-behaved and then only kick them out once they start causing trouble? Yes, the parents may potentially have some of their time and money go to waste, but then again, it is they who are rolling the dice. Should restaurants be able to ban babies from entering in the first place? At first, I thought I knew the answer, but after thinking about the issue of restaurant entrance restrictions in terms of race and smoking, I am no longer certain. What do you guys think?
  7. After reading that, I decided to add you as a friend. :)
  8. Well, you guys are going to be very glad to hear that he has now... ...retired. May Azura Naga Grima have mercy on his soul... >:D
  9. If only the Devil Axe and Casual Mode were both available in the same game...

  13. Aww, that's so sweet... Now that is what I call true love! <3 Anyway, I personally like the MU mechanic and wish it had been first implemented much, much earlier in the series (like at least as early as FE4). I think other games and game series have done a far better job with the whole self-insert thing than Fire Emblem. The Elder Scrolls is an obvious example (though I'm sure there's at least one person in the world that would disagree with me), but even in games where the only thing you can customize at the beginning is the main character's name, such as Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time, the main characters make far better self-inserts than FE13's Avatar, such as GL: WoT's Crevanille. In GL: WoT, whenever it is Crevanille's turn to talk, you are always given a list of dialogue lines to choose from, and the people that you're talking with will give a different response depending on the dialogue line that you choose.
  14. Well, in the Japanese katakana script, "Zelda" is spelled ゼルダ, while "Hilda" is spelled ヒルダ. Notice how the "ゼ" (ze) and the "ヒ" (hi) look similar to each other. Though I have no idea whether Hilda is even called "Hilda" in the Japanese version...
