  1. I would rather see more "moderate" characters be chosen as additional gay options, like Ryoma's son or Cyrus's daughter. I think its nice to see a character's behavior be a separate entity than their sexuality. I was naver a fan of characters like Sain, Inigo, or Heather. I like the thought of accepting that a man can love the masculine form without being gay, or love the feminine form and be gay. A gay pairing I really like is Lucius and Raven. I am surprised more people don't view is as a romantic relationship.
  2. I think what the op meant was aesthetic as an adjective (synonymous to beauty in this context). I assume he meant to ask if you prefer "visually pleasing" character designs or practical. Something can be ugly but practical, or pretty and impractical.
  3. I voted for practicality. In order for me to really like like a design, it usually has to be at least somewhat practical within its context (at least not excruciatingly impractical). Also, I find practicality is a lot less subjective than aesthetics. My favorite designs are usually both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
  4. I guess I chose my words poorly. I shouldn't have said "humans acting like humans". What I was really trying to get at was that for some people, traits other than just characters' personalities matter when creating a believable scenario. I think an over abundance of gay characters is unrealistic and contrived. I think the abundance of female warriors is also unrealistic and contrived. I think that the children fighters are unrealistic and contrived. If the game were catered towards myself, the majority of the army would resemble Benoit. I understand that my tastes are in the minority, but I believe that my desire for the game world to be 'realistic' is just as legitimate as someone else's desire for romances that they can relate to. It's just a matter of personal preference. I think there are quite a few 'eye rolling' aspects of the game. I think Camilla's outfit is eye rolling, I think the fact that characters are able to fall in love with such a giant array of people is eye rolling, I think Cyrus' hairdo is eye rolling, and I find quite a few other things silly too. Do I find these things detract from my enjoyment? Absolutely I would love if those things were toned down. Is it going to stop me from buying the game and probably enjoying it quite a bit? Absolutely not! Also I was completely wrong about Medieval cultures being almost universally against homosexuality. If ole wikipedia speaks the truth, then there more cultures than I would have guessed that, while not necessarily celebrating homosexuality, tolerated it. Poland being a good example of a European country that never outlawed homosexuality.
  5. I get that realism may not be a big factor to everyone, but I know it matters to some people and it matters quite a great deal to me. While what you said is true, its a fantasy game with dragons and magic, the characters (to my understanding) are still human and I find it considerably easier to accept them and become immersed in the story when they behave like humans. Now I do realize that such a small sample size would allow for quite a bit of variation from population norms, and I also understand that different societies might have varying levels of homosexuality based on culture (I have been led to believe that homosexuality was fairly prevalent and socially acceptable in ancient Rome). But I think the cultures in the game is pretty are pretty clearly based on feudal Europe and Japan where I believe homosexuality was quite taboo (edit: apparently not as much as I originally thought). I feel that for many people humans acting like humans is important in story telling. Otherwise, we could write off every preposterous thing that happens in any fantasy story as a result of the setting. Adding a few gay supports wouldn't really bother me, I actually do like them, but adding a bunch would probably make me roll my eyes. I think its important though, that people consider that there isn't an inherent "good" to adding gay supports, it is subjective.
  6. If Wikipedia tells me the truth, then about 5% of the population is openly gay (responds as gay to surveys). That's 1 in 20 or 2 in 40, so the representation actually seems pretty accurate to me. As for S rank supported characters saying pervy stuff when you start touching them, that also seems pretty legit to me. That's what married people do when they start rubbing each other's faces!
  7. It also might be relevant that Conquest is the version that is a bit more different than Awakening. If a player has only ever played Awakening and thinks that's what they're getting with Conquest, and then gets more difficult objectives with no ways of grinding up their characters stats, they may feel a bit bamboozled.
  8. I saw a few people say that they want the first generation to die if there is a second generation. I would much rather have one small generation, then have a timeskip and bring those characters back as older bad-asses. I obviously haven't been able to see how the gameplay changes really play out, but I actually like that they nerfed hand axes and javelins. I don't feel like going to the shop and spending all my money on 1-2 weapons is a particularly interesting strategy, so I hope they keep that. I also really like the change to weapon uses. I much prefer having combat-relative upsides and downsides to using particular weapons over the financial planning of weapon uses. Especially on a first play through, where I almost inevitably save my treasure chest weapons until far too late in the game. I'd actually like to see them find a way to balance staffs to have infinite uses. I think a pure utility/debuff class would be really cool. I don't like "zany" and unrealistic character designs and I hope that the next game has more characters like Benoit and Effie (Or any of the designs from GBA). I really like the new re-classing system and I hope they keep it (at least don't reintroduce grinding) I'd really like a fixed growth option so I can't exploit the rng. I really don't like the overland map or infinite grinding, so I hope that if they do decide to bring that back, they create another "more difficult" version like they did for Fates. Apparently Lunatic starts off pretty easy then gets a lot harder. I like that difficulty curve (as opposed to most of the other games that get considerably easier after the first few levels). I'd love to see them bring back ranked runs. Being forced to use almost every unit and play very efficiently made replaying FE7 much more enjoyable for me. I'd also really like to see more beach photos and face rubbing.
  9. Think of it like real life. There are millions (billions if we are really liberal about it) of people any given person *could* marry, but (hopefully) there is only one person he does marry.
  10. This is really relevant. I think it's important to remember that dialogue can be unreliable. Just because a character says something in a Support conversation doesn't mean that it's true.
  11. Just give your javelins and hand axes to Benoit. He's only ever going to be able to attack once anyway!
  12. I think that this is really well put. I don't mind silly looking characters like Camilla and pieri being in the game, but I dislike having one as a main character. To me it has a lot less to do with sex and a lot more with it being impossible for me to take a character like that seriously. If one of the main characters was wearing a green spandex full body suit and was present and involved in serious plot related dialogue it would ruin my immersion, and that's how I feel about Camilla's silly attire and cutscene.
  13. I think the key is that there is no surefire way to make them stop.I believe that getting teased is a perfect opportunity to practice humility and self control. I can't possibly know how you feel, but whenever I get teased and it gets to me its because either: A) somebody touched on one of my insecurities / diminished my feelings of self worth B) I reacted in a way I wish I hadn't I find that in both cases, I am ultimately in control. I either placed my self worth in something vain or silly (never have I been or seen someone be teased because of lack of integrity or kindness, but I have been teased because of mannerisms, attire, intelligence, etc) or I lashed out in irritation or frustration. When I remember to not take myself too seriously and to treat others with respect (regardless of how they treat me), getting people to not tease me anymore stops being a problem because I simply no longer mind. Tldr; you can't control others but you can learn to control yourself! Use getting teased as an opportunity to better your self control!
  14. I explicitly don't use characters because of appearance. The issue for me is less if I "like" the way they look, and more about believability. I tend to stray away from characters wearing skimpy armor (Camilla) or sporting crazy aesthetics (Pieri). I find that designs like that really break the immersion of the game. On the other hand, a character like Nyx doesn't bother me. Nyx wears a very revealing outfit but it fits with her occupation (a mystic) and she isn't a frontline fighter so she doesn't need as much protection. Mages in general don't wear armor and so a mage wearing revealing clothes doesn't seem too ridiculous to me. Camilla is supposed to be royalty, and seems to be a front line fighter, so reasonably modest and protective attire would make a lot more sense. I also really don't like characters that aren't built to be their class. I don't use characters like Ross, Amelia, or Kjelle because their physique doesn't match their stats or class (especially berserker ross and general Amelia). A 120lbs little boy just couldn't rule the battlefield with a man sized axe like Ross does. On the other hand, I don't mind using Ewan, Rolf, or Serra. They are all small in stature, but they go about combat in a way that is believable. I can imagine a 12 year old magical prodigy owning like Ewan, or a small boy making himself useful with a bow like Rolf. I understand that I am playing a fantasy game, but I still like the game to be realistic within its own context.
  15. So if I level Sain from 1 to 2, he should gain the same level up every time, right? When I reload the map and play it out differently, Sain levels up differently - thats what I mean by consistency.
  16. I just downloaded and patched the "Tony Mod" fixed growth patch to a FE 7 (u) file. It says that it successfully patched, but It doesn't seem that growth rates have been "fixed" at all. Stat growths still seem to be random, and they change when I reload or use a different seed. Is there something I am misunderstanding about the patch, or am I perhaps doing something else that would prohibit the patch from functioning? I am using the version of Tony's Mod that downloads automatically when you click on the link in the pinned thread, and I am using NUPS to patch it. Thanks for any help.
