There's other ways that can potentially explain why it took too long for Duma and Mila. They being Divine Dragons, they being isolated from other dragons, etc.

Indeed. That's my point. It's ambiguous. I don't think we can definitely say they are manaketes or that they're definitely not manaketes.

"If you really wanna know... Tens of thousands of years ago, the dragon tribe settled down on this continent, and created a civilization. They possessed intellect and abilities far exceedin' those of humans."

Where does Xane say this? Because we've talked before about how Malledus had a similar comment only in the NES version that was later altered.

So... where do they come from? Maybe from the place that has a lot of undead dragons roaming around. It's not a bad theory. Dragons used to live in Valentia, for long enough that enough of them died there. They then leave Valentia for Archanea. The corpses left behind would then become Terrors. Thus the Necrodragons and White Dragons that we see, since the White Dragon is simply a stronger Necrodragon. In Gaiden, and their SoV 3D models, they're simply recolored Necrodragons. So they're undead, not degenerated. They're even stated to be undead in their in-game description: Powerful dragon corpses reanimated by sorcery. The only actual degenerated dragons we fight are the Dagons and the Fire Dragons at Thebes. The Necrodragons, White Dragons, and Fafnirs are undead instead.

I thought White Dragons were specifically not labelled as terrors. Taking a glance at the wiki it says they're labelled as Great Terrors in the infobox. But the reason I was thinking they weren't labelled as Terrors is because their allegiance is Bretheren, like the Dagons and Fire Dragons, unlike all the other monsters in the game whose allegiance is Terrors.

Chapter 12 of Book 2 / New Mystery. This is the original text as pertaining to SF:

Chainy:
Okay…
Many tens of thousands of years ago the dragon tribe lived on this world, and built their own civilisation.
They were much wiser and stronger than humans.
But, from nowhere, the day of ruin came.
First they could not give birth anymore and then they lost their minds, becoming wild beasts that destroyed everything in their path.
The elders said the dragon tribe was reaching its last days.
We had no choice, except to abandon our identities as dragons and live on as humans.

The bit about the time in Japanese:

うん・・・
竜族は 何万年も前から
この大陸にすみつき
文明を築き上げてきたんだ

Trying to put it on a translator gives something akin to:

Yeah...
Dragons have lived on this continent and built a civilization tens of thousands of years ago.

This particular line, at least, seems to be identical in New Mystery... except for, curiously enough, the addition of a comma:

うん…
竜族は、何万年も前から
この大陸に住みつき
文明を築き上げてきたんだ。

Looks curious. Still, they're labeled as Terrors, and they're described as being reanimated corpses. They're clearly undead.

That doesn't seem as clear as the first translation you posted. It seems to just suggest they had and built their society long before in the past, rather than coming from another place.

That was also a SF-housed translation.

As it were, the dead dragons in Valentia had to come from somewhere. They're not spawned by Duma, that much is certain.
