You are a writer for IS. You are given full control of writing the story for the next Fire Embelm title, with one exception. It must be a story set in Archanea and/or Valentia where Alm and Marth fight each other

Recommended Posts

Basically Batman vs Superman, Fire Emblem edition! How would you find a way to justify this story and appease your executive's demands?

I'm putting this in Far From the Forest, so if you stumble on this a few years later, feel free to necro with fresh ideas of how this (probably stupid) plot can be handled.

Somehow, Duma returns, and completely overwhelms Alm, making him create a highly militaristic empire bent on conquering the world. Duma's "blessing" makes his people all ridiculously strong, enabling them to create powerful boats and cross the oceans with ease.  Archanea happens to be one of the several lands they discover and promptly set their sights on.

Meanwhile, Mila, greatly weakened, takes refuge among her parents in the Archanean pantheon. Wendell(or his successor) receives a divine sign from her, and becomes her vessel. He knows through divine osmosis that Archanean military might is no match for the Valentian conquerors, so he arranges for Marth to try and rally all of its disparate kingdoms to make as formidable a defense as they can, while arranging an evacuation route to Elibe(or any other fantasy FE continent, I'm not picky!). The Valentian invading force arrives, and is fought to a stalemate, but at a significant loss to the Archanean forces. Wendell tries his best to help them recover through Mila's curative powers, but with multiple other Valentian forces soon sighted heading for Archanea, this ends up being a futile endeavor. For the next year or so, Marth fights in gradual retreat, doing whatever he can to buy time, until the siege of Macedon, where a sudden influx of dragons finally grinds down the Valentian assault and makes them go on the defensive.

For years afterwards, the Valentians are reduced to skirmishing on Archanea. Wendell's blessings fill the Archanean lands with fertile produce, bolstering the resolve of its people and letting them live reasonably comfortable lives, despite circumstances. The Valentian soldiers notice this, and soon begin to desert in mass, surrendering voluntarily to the Archaneans. Enraged, Duma attempts to cast a spell of annihilation to burn the Archanean holdouts into ash, but Gotoh tricks him into casting it wrongly, making it backfire and destroying him so badly, he is reduced to cosmic dust and effectively banished from the human world for a few thousand years. The Valentian armies completely lose heart, Marth takes charge and throws them out of Archanea, and Alm himself, after having been freed from Duma's clutches, calls for a complete end to the campaign, and comes in person to apologize for the invasion. Everyone accepts his apologies,  Wendell goes on a pilgrimage to spread Mila's blessings to the world, and everyone lives happily after...or until the next sequel is written, anyway!

I really dislike the notion of doing a post-Echoes game involving Alm's Kingdom. The game is perfect all the way up to its conclusion. As for Marth...who out here is really hungry for a Book 3? There are legit more Smash Bros players interested in Marth's story then there are Fire Emblem fans who could say the same. Do the fake math in your head right now and realize that I'm right. You want a contrived plot where Alm and Marth lead forces against each other under false pretenses? That's Fire Emblem Warriors 2 territory.

A Valentia vs Archanea could be a compelling Generations Later plotline. Because I think both continents arrive at opposite values surrounding their creation myth. Alm slew the Gods and gave the land back to his People. Or at least that's how they would hear the legend. The truth is Alm unknowingly carried out a Chosen One plot that was written by Man yet quietly endorsed by Mila seeking to bring an end to her brother's pain using the last of her influence. Archanea, meanwhile, still worships Narga and the Divine Dragon clan all the way up to the era of Awakening. A war between continents would then be framed similar to our real world Crusades. And the ultimate conclusion being the division of Alm's One Kingdom into smaller kingdoms and possibly the same for the other continents.

How about this. More Divine Dragons survived, quietly on secluded islands. Knowing nothing of their kin Naga, Mila, or Duma. Their descendants, one of whom is our dragon shifting Lord, set out to explore the world against their elder's orders. They make contact with Valentia, cause a huge stir to the dragon-fearing populace. And your self defense murder of troops has to be answered for. You get driven out all the way east until a sympathetic ship captain hauls you to Archanea where you learn of the clan. And just as things start looking up, Valentia's warships have followed you and wage war on the nations harboring monsters. Then the big twist, you weren't Divine Dragons after all (or at least, not pureblooded ones). You were descended also from Medeus' clan, which of course makes you a public enemy in your new home too.

But I can't envision a compelling reason to make Archanea's stake in fighting Valentia a mutual interest. Not without resorting to something disingenuous like Archanean bishops pulling the strings and deceiving the populace enough to want to murder the godless heathens of the western world and turning your kin into tools of propaganda. After the response to Rhea in Three Houses, I'm not convinced we can handle any plot surrounding Religion that's going for nuance.

It is the far future. Far beyond the events of Awakening, even. Aliens have invaded the planet (they look like dragons, of course). They have travelled back through time and abducted and cloned legendary figures from history. Not just Alm and Marth, but Sigurd and Chrom too. Now, they are forcing them to repeatedly fight to the death and making a TV show out of the spectacle (and then resurrecting whoever died). To start off with, you play the different heroes as they are pitted against each other in progressively more and more contrived and ridiculous scenarios, but eventually they start to figure out what is going on and join forces with each other, breaking out of the TV set, and ultimately fighting and defeating their alien dragon overlords and reclaiming the planet for humanity. Also, it's the future so there are laser swords.

Is this ridiculous? Yes. Is it a terrible idea? Absolutely. Is it any more ridiculous and terrible than what the original premise deserves? Not remotely.

Ha. I love it.

Yeah, that's kind of meant to be the point. You've been given a stupid idea to write, how can you best pull it off?

Echoes takes place between the games which might mean that King Alm had to deal with having Emperor Hardin as a neighbor before Marth became emperor. If the continents had to have a stupid war then the origins would most logically be found there.

Have the story begin with emperor Hardin being hostile to Alm, blockading trade, having his ambassadors stir up trouble and engage in hybrid warfare. Maybe even fund bandits to attack Ram and Novis to personally vex Alm and Celica. At one point Alm has enough and sets out with a fleet to defend Valentia from Hardin. By the time he lands in Archenea Hardin has already been overthrown, but Alm doesn't know that yet, so instead he faces Marth. They have one big battle after which they talk it out and join forces against a new threat. Maybe that be Grima or the barbarians up north uniting.

The topic never specified the war between Marth and Alm had to be especially long after all. Unless a stupid plot device like a blood pact or Celica being held hostage I don't see any quarrel between the two rulers lasting very well. They're both good boys so they'd probably be able to talk it out at the first meeting.

Well Marth unfortunately just realized Caeda's been cheating on him with Roger so he offs himself. Things look pretty good for Alm since Archanea is essentially just free land to banish Gray to for tax fraud, but Alm later realizes that Celica has also been cheating on him with Roger, so Alm is slain by Alm. Roger wins.

The gameplay is about Frost ruling Macedon and gaining the help of Wendell to build a 2nd monastery for Wrys. It's a building sim. You cut wood with Cord and build with Bord while occasionally passing laws as Frost. You can pray with Wendell whenever you're too stressed or ashamed of your sin. It's slightly more complex animal crossing. The main story is mentioned twice.

Far future, since I don't know that much about the early games lore and I didn't play SoV. The historical Marth and Alm, after doing the things they're famous for in-universe, then suddenly disappeared. They were still in the prime of their youth (thus fighting ability), but nobody knew what happened to them. I think you can guess where I'm going with this.

Let's set it after Awakening. The League of Nations (the continent of Ylisse) is at odds with the Valmese Empire. Neither wants a war but instead they mistrust each other and this is an obstacle to peace.

On the day of a major festival to Naga, observed across the Ylissean continent, a date which coincides with a diplomatic conference between kings in the continent's heart, Valm suddenly launches a full-blown invasion with zero warning. The most formidable Valmese general is Alm in the flesh, who reappeared in the vicinity of the Valmese imperial court about a year ago. Marth, who also reappeared a year ago, shows up and helps the League defend itself.

As it turns out, this is not the first timeline. Alm came here from a previous timeline where it was the League that invaded first, and after traveling back he convinced Valm to launch a preemptive strike to protect the continent's people.

They fight for a while, and a butt ton of people die, but then both sides realize they're being set up. There is another country far away, whose people are devoted to an evil dragon god who can manipulate time. He is the one who brought Marth and Alm here. He brings a bunch of baddies ("earth dragons", I guess) from the past, who had narrowly escaped death before vanishing, to help him take over the present. Bad guy believes both sides have weakened each other sufficiently that victory is now possible.

Final showdown, where Marth, Alm, and MC team up, and they save the world. Credits roll.

Alright, time to put in some effor-

Far from the Forest...

Ahem.

Shiida hits on Alm, hoping to recruit him. I mean, it worked on plenty of guys before, right?

Celica, in a jealous rage, steals the true source of Shiida's power - the legendary Wing Spear.

Marth swears revenge against Celica. As Shiida's husband, he was the only person allowed to "take her Wing Spear", dammit!

Alm gets in his way. Alas, Marth's Falchion can barely put a scratch into the DONG ARMOR.

Hey if you want to take it seriously and put effort into something that could be genuinely good, then that's welcome too.
