FF6 is arguably the non-Earthbound pinnacle of the Japanese RPG before the advent of a console with built-in 3D hardware. It strikes me that you almost certainly lack context if you are making that claim.You are also holding up FF7 as a masterpiece, which in itself is a very, very good joke. Masterpieces go by titles such as Lunar and Suikoden, if we are to consider only JRPGs, and Baldur's Gate and Civilization if we consider worthwhile genres. The Final Fantasy series is mass-market bovine fecal matter at best. The series takes the safe route, every time, and presents a nearly identical experience in each iteration. The only modern iteration of the series to do anything remotely risky was Final Fantasy VIII--and the mouthbreathing fanboy contingent proceeded to hate it. Wank material is one.But there's a difference between FF X-2 and any Dead or Alive game that has volleyball as a prominent play mechanic: the DoA games don't pass themselves off as legitimate.
