I've said it before and I'll say it again, there was no reason to keep Ash in the MC position for Johto/Hoenn The main argument for keeping him at that point is appealing to kids. How does Ethan/Brendan not do that? They're about the same age, and who's a kid is changing constantly. Not to mention, using a new character based on the new protagonist is better for advertising the new gen of games Keeping one character in a series that drags out for no definite amount of time is just harmful for their ability to develop. At some point, they'll hit a ceiling, and then what? Apparently, we get BW Ash, whose competence was a major step down from his DP self. Instead, everyone in the group of focus should be different each gen, so there's a definite amount of time they can be on the show.
