TBH, Surf may not me mandaory, but hey, it's still a good Water attack (though Scald has a burn chance, so there's that). The problem as I see it is I just can't think of many reasons to bother with Tepig when Darmanitan does what Emboar can, but better... And a horrid movepool is just another nail in Tepig's coffin. STAB Razor Shell at level 17 appeals to me a lot more than... whatever the [bLEEP] Tepig gets, which is nothing that impresses me at all. By the time I get to have a Darumaka, Pignite is typically level 25+. Level lead does a lot of good things in this game, especially as a starter. When Audinos pop up like candy, getting experience is rather easy. My last few runs were essentially catch everything and move on, but I hardly ever flee from battles. But with only 30 One Handed, little Light Armor and weak Forging, not much I can do. I even tried to lure the Troll to the Giants, but it didn't want to leave the mountain.
