He was exploiting this glitch where you re-map the "show map" button to Tab and hold that when moving from one section to another... which let him move from Rolent directly to Grancel. New Game+ characters since otherwise you get one-shot by the monsters on that side. You have to backtrack a bit to meet some story requirements, but yeah.
