dondon151
Before SF's host was hacked, Mekkah started a 0% growths run for FE8, and I immediately jumped on the bandwagon with an FE7 playthrough. The goal was to 5-star tactics, survival, and combat: I kept a simple log of turn counts and a few other events: 0 11: 8 turns +8 12: 6 turns +6 13: 12 turns ElixHec C +6 13x: 8 turns +7 14: 10 turns +7 15: 8 turns +15 16: 11 turns LynxFlo C +19 17: 13 turns +14 17x: 5 turns Oswin P +9 18: 11 turns Guy P GuyxMat C +9 19: 9 turns +8 19x: 10 turns +8 20: 19 turns RavxLuc C +11 21: 12 turns ElixHec B +14 22: 10 turns Raven P Isado Drg +13 23: 9 turns Rath P Prissy P Heath P +13 23x: 9 turns Isado Bod -3 24: 17 turns RavxPri C MarxIsa C -8 25: 7 turns Farina P -1 26: 12 turns 0 27: 19 turns MarxIsa B HawxLou C HawxPen C -6 28: 16 turns HarxIsa C -5 28x: 19 turns Harke Boo Marcu Spe HarxIsa B MarxHar C -14 29: 19 turns Pent Tal -15 30: 12 turns Legault P -3 31: 12 turns Isado Ang Marcu Ang Hawke Spe -2 31x: 6 turns HawxPen B HawxLou B HarxIsa A -1 32: 7 turns -9 32x: 9 turns 0 F-1: 6 turns Athos Tal Athos Bod -2 F-2: 1 turn 332/335 turns Column 1 shows the turn deficit or surplus at the beginning of the chapter, e.g. -9 means a 9 turn surplus. Column 2 is the chapter number. Column 3 is the number of turns taken. The notes on the right keep track of certain events: "ElixHec C" means Eliwood and Hector got their C support. "Raven P" means Raven promoted. "Isado Drg" means Isadora got a Dragonshield. Battle Records I'm only going to include lords and promoted units. Losses are 0 unless stated otherwise. Vykan12
Those are just records, I'm more curious about what the experience was like. Was the challenge particularly difficult? What caused you the most trouble? Etc.
Mekkah
There should be ways to reduce desynch, but vykan is more in the know about that than me. I loved the Ch30 strategy. This makes me wanna do FE5/FE6 0%, but I can't find the Nightmare modules for them anywhere anymore.
dondon151
There should be ways to reduce desynch, but vykan is more in the know about that than me. I loved the Ch30 strategy. This makes me wanna do FE5/FE6 0%, but I can't find the Nightmare modules for them anywhere anymore. Vykan pointed me in the direction of a build of VBA that records .avi better. The problem is that the build of VBA that I use has incompatible savestates and VBA movie files... Those are just records, I'm more curious about what the experience was like. Was the challenge particularly difficult? What caused you the most trouble? Etc. I don't remember much of the early chapters, but it was just Marcus charging through things... the problem was that I really needed more units that could do stuff, since Marcus can't go it alone. In chapter 15, for example, I had Oswin defend the door next to the throne, which meant that there was very little that I could do on the southern front, so as a result I only managed to get the Silver Axe. Chapter 20 was a bitch. I had to recruit Legault, then steal the Member Card, then visit the Secret Shop. The problem was that Marcus and Guy didn't have enough firepower to power through the enemies and Oswin didn't have enough move, so I ended up recruiting Legault up in the northwest corner of the map. Another problem was that I couldn't afford to dedicate units to protecting Merlinus, so I had to bring as few items as possible to buy the maximum amount of killers. Yet another problem was that Lyn and Eliwood are required and there are numerous threats that appear to them, like mage reinforcements, the Longbow archer, and shaman reinforcements. I might develop a new strategy and vid this chapter. Chapter 23x I had the strategy planned out, but it would be pretty impossible without RNG manipulation. I wanted Geitz really badly, and as is evident from the battle records, he was an extremely useful unit. Getting the lords to 50 levels combined was a pain in the ass. Lyn and Hector were the easiest to level up because they did the most damage. Eliwood required a few turns of the arena in chapter 21, which I could have cleared in like 6 turns. Midgame is easy. Enemies are easy and you're just getting a bunch of promoted units. Chapter 29 comes, and you want to shit yourself. I'm planning on recording this chapter in the near future as well. The rest of endgame is rather tough and, as you'll see later, involves using Harken as much as possible and abusing Warp when possible. Early to midgame, Marcus is easily your most valuable unit, as is obvious from the battle records. Lategame, it becomes Harken, who is the only one that possesses a mix of durability and offense. He's basically a god among men, as will become evident when I upload chapter 32 and 32x videos. Pent is also an awesome unit, as he is the only promoted staffer you get besides Renault and thus is crucial for warp strategies as well as for healing stuff from long range. His offense is really good as well; he has the highest win to battle ratio among the units that saw significant combat. This is a fun challenge, and for those who don't strive for excellent turn counts while visiting all gaiden chapters, it's definitely something that should be tried out, as it's perfectly doable with minimal abuse. It's nice that FE7 offers 2 convenient support triangles to work with.
Raven
I enjoyed watching the videos. That was some nice savestate/RNG abusing there.
DragonBladeSniper
Cool runs. How did Merlinus get 1 win? Did he get attacked by someone with a Devil Axe or something? XD I mostly just want to see you defeating the Fire Dragon with an army of weak units.
dondon151
Merlinus got doubled by a Devil Axe berserker in 32x, which backfired both times. Fire Dragon was Filla's Might + Athos, nothing special there. As a side note, I ended the game with something like 80000 G surplus, a result of selling whatever expensive items that I didn't need, and this is after recruiting Farina. Suffice to say that for unranked, gold isn't much of a problem. Edited June 24, 2009 by dondon151

Dr. Tarrasque
Does anyone have a program that can split .avi files? You mean for the limit on youtube? (IE, split a 14 minute AVI in to two 7 minute AVIs?) If so, VirtualDub works.
dondon151
Thanks, Sirius. Chapters 31, 32, 32x, and Final added to first post. 31 is rather ordinary, though I think the rest are worth watching, especially 32.
Mekkah
32 was really good yeah. At the final turn I was like "wow, Harken is so fucked now", and then Renault traded Rescue and I was like "yes! good save!"...and then he rescued Hector. But then Pent saved the day. Dr. Tarrasque
Why position Harken in the forest instead of the nearby mountain near the end of 32? The Shamans wouldn't show up or some range issue? Edited June 26, 2009 by Sirius
dondon151
I had to kill that brigand, who would have prevented Isadora from attacking Limstella and giving her support to Harken. Actually I would have preferred the shamans not to show up, but if Harken had done any action, they would have reinforced. As long as a unit "waits" past the bridge in the north (even below on that piece of land thst I rescued Hector on), the shamans would show up, but nothing happens if you warp units in.
