This course focuses on enabling students to

refine their use of the creative process when

creating and presenting two and threedimensional

art works using a variety of

traditional and emerging media and

technologies. Students will use the critical

analysis process to deconstruct art works and

explore connections

between art and

society. The studio

program enables

students to explore a

range of materials,

processes, and techniques that can be applied

in their own art production. Students will also

make connections between various works of

art in personal, contemporary, historical, and

cultural contexts.

Grade 12 Photography

University/College Preparation

Prerequisite: AWQ3O1

This digital SLR photography (non‐film based)

course will develop advanced skills in fine art

photography. Students will continue to explore

composition and design, advanced camera

functions and lighting. Students will work with

a photo‐editing program (Photoshop) as they

improve their creativity and refine their skills.

This course will also focus on presentation, the

development of original ideas, self‐expression,

communication and exploring the history and

work of other well‐known photographers. All

students must have a minimum of a simple

point and shoot digital camera and a memory

stick/USB. A more advanced digital camera can

be made available for specific studio

applications.

Prerequisite: Grade 11 Visual

Arts, Open

This advanced studio course will

provide all the necessary resources

needed by the senior student preparing

a portfolio for college or university

entrance. This course focuses on the

refinement of students' skills and

knowledge in visual arts. Students will

analyze art forms; use theories of art in

analyzing and producing art and

increase their understanding of stylistic

changes in Western Art, Canadian (incl.

Native Canadian) Art, and art forms

from various parts of the world.

Students will produce a body of work

demonstrating a personal approach.

Grade 12 Applied Design

University/College Preparation

Prerequisite: Enrolment by invitation

only.

This is a specialized course in

publication design and computer

graphics. This course focuses on the

refinement of students' skills and

knowledge in visual arts. Students will

increase their understanding of stylistic

changes in Western art, Canadian (incl.

Native Canadian) art, and art forms from
