Othin
And here I was thinking you were going to link to more, new information about it. Edited September 28, 2011 by Othin

Excellen Browning
It's not even certain yet the speed of light has been broken. IIRC They're currently checking in other labs if they can produce the same results.
Original Alear
Oh no, where did C go?
peener weener
It's being tested. The guys who took on the experiment are looking for answers and are inviting other scientists to look at this shit and maybe explain why this happened and if maybe it was a mistake. Also old news you're late. But still. What the fuck.
Balcerzak
Should I assume everyone interested has already read the paper in question? I found it interesting that the time measurement was made based on a comparison of probability distribution function waveforms, and not as the difference between a trigger start and trigger stop event. Also, the measurement of the distance baseline was pretty interesting too, using the high precision GPS, though the translation method was not entirely what I was expecting. Seeing the graph register the earthquake along with the regular drift in the Earth's crust was pretty cool (and xkcd already commented on it). Defeatist Elitist
The biggest mindfuck is how heavily GPS relies on relativity.

Being a not-physicist I don't really understand any of that, but does it mean they haven't even validated the method?
Original Alear
Wait I have a question. Why is this called "scientists break speed of light". The scientists didn't do it. The particles in question did. Unless you argue that the particles were stationary and everything else was moving around them or some shit. uguu
the scientists picked up the particles and ran to the destination and they got there faster than they did when carrying light
Nightmare
They're obviously superheroes of some sort, so they can go faster than light.
Balcerzak
Being a not-physicist I don't really understand any of that, but does it mean they haven't even validated the method? Not exactly. What it means is that in this field, things are so specialized, sometimes not even other physics can immediately figure out what's going on without some deep immersion. Junkhead
How does this work, really? I didn't understand the guy's accent.
Raven
It's like teleportation or some shit.
Original Alear
It's like teleportation or some shit. So it's cheating. I guess that makes sense.
