Chapter 12 is masterful Fire Emblem design IMO, one of the best in the series. The pots aren't really a gimick, since you can see which ones have poison and which ones have medicine. There's really no shame in dropping the difficulty. You don't need to restart from the beginning, you can lower it on the map.
