Just pick a starting class with swag it has that you want to use then upgrade Vitality/Endurance about the same time then decide on either Strength or Dexterity weapons. Magic is optional but nice to mess around with. Especially Pyromancy since you don't have to worry about your Intelligence or Faith stats. All you need are the souls to upgrade the flame. Actually, you might want to check out mugenmonkey if you REEEEEEEEAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLYYYY want to optimize your first character but some of the fun of the first run is doing whatever you want to find what you like or don't like even if means upgrading stats you never use effectively. I killed the babies, now I want to kill the mom/dad with extreme predejuce for being a terrible parent by letting their kids run around unsuprivised.
