Earlier this week, Nintendo revealed a mysterious new Wii title in production called Captain Rainbow. While specific details are still unknown, the game is said to be a strange hybrid of 2.5D fighting segments reminiscent of Viewtiful Joe and sprawling exploration in the vein of Animal Crossing.

If that incredible combo is already not enough to get you excited, listen to this amazing description of the story: Captain Rainbow is the star of a struggling television show who possesses a wide variety of fighting moves and uses a magic yo-yo to finish off his enemies. His alter ego, Nick, is a nerd who loves wearing flower-themed clothing. Since his show is on the brink of cancellation, Nick travels to Mimin Island, a place where all your wishes can come true. It is on this mystical island where Nick and, in turn, Captain Rainbow’s grand adventure takes place.

Still not convinced? Prepare yourself for this: Mimin’s population is entirely composed of obscure characters from old Nintendo games. For example, Birdo (yes, BIRDO!) is a prisoner in the local jail and the old man from the original NES Golf lives in a rundown house and struggles with his golf skills.

I don’t really have any words to describe how amazing this game sounds. Even without the incredible inclusion of random Nintendo characters, Captain Rainbow actually sounds like a pretty cool premise for a game and completely uncharacteristic of Nintendo.

I hope and pray this game is at least talked about at next week’s E3. It is officially my new obsession.

WOW, Nintendo looks like Mario's been given them even more magic mushroom's cause that looks odd. But that's just mean, and whoever said wierdness doesn't make for a good game
