IGdood
The siege of Omi begins, heheh. Emperor forgive me, I totally forgot about this mission. Yes Emperor, I will redeem myself. One new feature that has been introduced in Fall of the Samurai is the railway system. It lets you move units very quickly around the campaign map, but I need military access or ownership of the provinces I am moving through, and stations must be connected. I don't have military access through Tosa lands and the AI sucks at building railways. I should betray ALL of them one of these days. The Ore Processing Plant is an upgrade to the Goldfields. The Shikoyoku Office just maintains Imperial influence even more. The hopeless garrison at Omi sallies out in a desperate attempt to save their skins. Sharpshooters into the woods, where they can FIRE WHILST HIDDEN They never learn, do they? Keeping their general in harm's way. They never saw it coming. That's a lot of Parrott Guns. All cavalry, INTERCEPT! For some reason, artillery takes forever to kill. It's like each and crew have some collective health. They have to be shot over 9000 times and melee'd to death over 9000 times before dying together. This means that a gun crew can kick ass in melee! Things are getting simpler. Just stand there and shoot. Revolver cav don't have much ammo, SO...MELEE THEM Hey look remnants of a bodyguard. I NEED A CHALLENGE. Omi is ours. Emperor be praised. Silver mines in Omi? WEALTH All these Jozai forces in Jozai territory! Now the most mighty of iron ships is available to us! Focusing on defense now. Upgrading a Buddhist Shrine for no reason. We must cut deep into Jozai territory! The nobodies of Clan Sado declare war on us. SURE WHY NOT I can now develop cities into Municipalities! Our Navy approaches Shogunate coast, and we have conquered Ise. Mochi ranks up again! The Emperor has decided to give us a choice for our legendary fame. This...is Realm Divide. BUT, it's not the crazy one where everyone suddenly turns on you. This is where ALL the Shogunates focus only on you. BUT, if I decide to pick the Republic route, then I lose everything with "Imperial" in the name and I cannot use Ishin Shishi to bribe people. Of course....FOR THE EMPEROR! IGdood
PHOTOBUCKET WHY YOU NO OBEY The Matcha Plant is a place to get tea and shit. I upgraded to a Tea Exporter. Mochi gets the trait of Bravery. I think the trigger for this is to get your general into melee combat often. Okay, time to assign new traits. Since you can't read them, I'll list them. Dread: +1 repression in provinces where Mochi is present, lowers morale of enemies. Precision: +5 accuracy to all units under his command, bombardments have smaller radii Offense: All units gain charge bonus, Our navy continues to make its way into enemy waters. Here I come across an Ironclad-Kotetsu class. Let's capture it. Looks special. Looks kinda tough. Let's take it. Suddenly my ship is on fire! He's got explosive shells. We must counter. I tell the ship on fire to initiate repairs and hopefully they can put it out while the other frigate pounds the Kotetsu. WHAAAT Luckily, revenge was had with lots of explosive shells and they surrendered. I bet you didn't notice that instead of "Clan Saga", we're now the "Saga Imperial Vanguard". Well, looks like the shogun picked his own vanguard. Both our banners have changed as we fight for a higher cause. And with the Realm Divide comes new declarations of war. I think the people can relax a bit. Here, have a festical. One day, when Iemasa walked through Sendai territory....HE WAS BESET BY A DAEMON! Luckily, WITH ZEAL AND FAITH, HE FUCKED THE ENEMY UP BIG TIME. I SMITE THEE IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR Gatling Gun towers? But nobody's going to be stupid enough to assault me. Oki seems very happy. One of our other lesser Ishin Shihi agents ave managed to talk a bunch of Nagoya troops to our side. The Emperor is pleased. Shogunate Infantry have joined my side....funny they don't change their names to Imperial Infantry. So....they're Imperial ex-Shogunate Infantry? Talk about an identity crisis. So, the Date family are part of the Sendai. I can now build Matchlock Towers now.... FLEET. UNLEASH HELL. The Shikykodihasdci something can be upgraded to a Daily News building. Time for brainwashing. We shall move onwards to Mino. Civil building boost? Now I guess I should upgrade all my towns to cities. Toshi dislikes Shinsengumi in his lord's territory. Iemasa sows chaos and bribes a bunch of Shogunate troops over. Unfortunately they were utterly obliterated by an angry Jozai army.
IGdood
Gatling Gun Towers researched. Hell yes....not like I'll ever see them in action though... Moving on to the province of Mino.. Another new...feature of Fall of the Samurai are port assaults. In past games, your ships would be safe if they were docked at a port. Now, fleets can assault ports, basically sail INTO them and blw the shit out of the ships docked there. It also damages the port, and of curse it's harder as the attacker because ports have their own defenses. I didn't repair my captured kotetsu either. Shit. Well, I've only got 1 USEABLE ship and lots of coastal cannons. Accursed narrow firing angle....I'm getting bombed! Entering first person mode because it boosts reload time, but I can't shoot for shit so that's a nice tradeoff. Smashin holes like a boss. For some reason the stupid AI is trying to blow all coastal emplacements up instead of blowing up my fleet. ON FIRE? REPAIR NOW Wipe that blood off my screen, gunner. Load up another round and here we go. Things look good. After a lot of first-person cannoneering, I am greeted with the finale. I WEEN. I can now upgrade military docks to Drydocks (from the Iron Plating research). Turns out that you need a drydck to make iron-plated vessels. Even if you've researched copper/iron, with After a few turns, the British ironclad Warrior arrives. It's manned by a Brit with a sexy at, of course. And with that, it's time to push forward. Time to invade the Shogunates and wipe them out once and for all. The Emperor protects. Meanwhile, the Nagoaka sally out. They shall be trapped on 2 fronts. The reinforcing army was recently bribed over to my side. Shelling them from the side. They've got their own Parrotts, but this is what ranged cavalry are good for. Sharpshooters fire! Then withdraw to safety. Enemy saber cavalry. KYOTO POLICE, CHARGE! SURPRISE RAPE! And with the death of their general, it's all over. Toshi reaches max level from all that killing. With dat new mask and armor, he goes ahead and kills a Frenchie.
IGdood
Training Camps can be upgraded to provide bonuses to recruits. Too bad my armies are already vetted up and recruited already. I'll just showcase the buildings, not gonna comment much on them. Wtf? Tanegshima what are you thinking? Oki and a few new toys have loaded up... Chipping away at the Nagaoka. Factories can be upgraded even further. Mind blown. Morale bonuses to modern units are always welcome. Moving on to TORPEDOS. Mochi's army gets some modern units. Switching out some line infantry and levy infantry. Oki has landed! NOW DEATH SHALL CLAIM THE SHOGUNATE Lolwut Iemasa manages to persuade a HUGE force to join me. Amongst the defectors are....what..ex-Shinsengumi!? Luckily, our defectors were smart enough to hide in the nearest forest so Jozai forces can't find them. Continuing to siege their lands. Hide, crawl, hide, crawl... Let's test out our Imperial units. FOR THE EMPEROR! Check out dem hats. Imperial Infantry - A cut above line infantry. Carbine Cavalry, balanced in both ranged and melee. Shogunate Infantry (well, ex-Shogunate now), same stats as Imperials....I think. Well the Imperials I have were upgraded with better armor and accuracy because that one province has awesome buildings. This battle's a sure win, so let's toy around with our carbine cavalry. They remind me of the light dragoons from Empire Total War, except these carbines are BREECHLOADERS. Meaning, no need to rip a cartridge with your teeth, shove into gun, and use ramrod. Just shoot, take cartridge and shove into the back of your gun and fire. Rate of fire? 4-5 seconds. DANGEROUS. They never stood a chance... I was going to peacefully occupy this province. Then I saw Okazaki and immediately though of biology. Okazaki fragments......gonna make them my vassal.
IGdood
Today, we shall demonstrate the awesomeness of late-game units. This is the armstrong gun. Doesn't look that much different from the parrott. This is the Gatling gun. Fuck honor, this is awesome. Imperial Guard Infantry. The best uniforms and breech-loaders that money can buy. This is the Samurai Hero, a far cry from the heroes of Shogun 2. British Royal Marines. Red and...well....lots of funny dialogue from the soldiers themselves. The Armstrong Guns don't seem any more accurate than the Parrotts, but they certainly fire much faster. Oh and this is the Imperial Guard Cavalry. One of the main selling points of Fall of the Samurai is this unit. Just...so amazing to see them shoot continuously without fail. Even better is when I get to control them personally. HAHAHA NO MERCY. THIS IS MODERN WARFARE. Well, let's mess around with our horse archers. Keypoint: Don't group them together. Let the enemy chase one unit and let the others shoot the pursuers. I've never seen anything so one-sided. A trio of provinces are now mine! My favorite part about the Guard units is that they give a shout-out to the Warhammer 40k series. -click on Imperial Guard- THE EMPEROR'S FINEST!!!! Rewjeo
Hey. It's been a long time. I've already completed a Jozai campaign and I'm doing one right now as the Satsuma Republic. You should, like, update. Also, lategame units are lame. Ridiculous province upgrades and experience is where it's at. Gogo 50 charge bonus sabre cav! Unfortunately, I haven't gotten into a field battle yet to test them.
IGdood
Shit man, and you had even less time than I did.... Then again, I spent the 6 past days on a Mass Effect marathon. Just finished Mass Effect 3 today and I can see why people are so pissed at the ending. Wtf Bioware? ANYWAYS The Jozai army has taken the province of Kozuke. Here, they shall hold out and hope Mochi can blaze a trail to link the province with the rest of our lands. I can't wait to see these Torpedo Ships in action now.... Our next thing to research is Seclusion, which DOES NOT lower our modernization, but it raises the happiness of the people, for some reason. So, I suppose it means we're somehow isolating the commoners from the gaijin? It's a pity winter time lasts 6 turns, but to look at it realistically, it means I have 18/24 turns out of the year where I can move around without suffering attrition and whatnot. We won't be marching on to South Shinano or Etchu for some time. Bribing's always nice. If you got it, use it. It's a pity the Aizu died so early in-game. They have some very unique units...and I'm not talking unique such as Shogitai where it's allegiance-exclusive, I'm talking unique as in lan-exclusive. It certainly is strange that the Saga don't have unique units of their own despite what the advertisements say.. I'll have to do something about that. Well, a turn later I get a message that the Obama clan has been destroyed. I wished I dealt the killing blow, but such was not the case... Did I mention I can build Gatling Towers now? I had a siege where I didn't take screens of, but all I can say about Matchlock Towers is that they only seem slightly better than arrow towers....but that's probably because enemy units nowadays have minimal armor. The additional armor-piercing capabilities offered by matchlocks aren't useful in this sense. Now I don't need to dilly-dally around so much keeping public order after conquering a province. Next thing of research: the Western Agenda. South Shinano has joined us. Meanwhile....Mochi gets into a battle with the sallying garrison of Etchu which is supported by another army attacking from behind. Essentially, Mochi is surrounded, with with good ol' Brit marines and Imperial Guardsmen, I'm sure he'll give the Shogunates a sound thrashing. This is the Kisho Ninja unit. No, it's not Toshi. Second force in-bound. Let's form a circle..or double lines or something! The Armstrong guns will be putting pressure on these guys, hopefully by the time they reach me their numbers will be so thinned out it won't even matter if I'm surrounded. Meanwhile, the gatlings will face the other way and try not to die. I always enjoy the first person mode....HEHEHEH Unfortunately, the royal marines were hit hard in the back....and didn't lose a lot of men....funny....of course, they don't use katanas. They go toe-to-toe with SABERS. The kisho ninja from FOTS are basically the same ones from Shogun 2. They got their flashbangs and their grenades... Anyways, they send the cavalry packing. Alright Tommy, back in line formation for you. The cavalry shall flank. With carbines. The days of charging in are over. An undisciplined force like this is no match for our kneel-firing. Now's the time. When the enemy is distracted/shooting somewhere else, send the cavalry in. Of course, the enemy was smart enough to attempt to shoot down some of my cavalry by turning around. Cavalry are much more vulnerable to bullets since they're such big targets.... It's a great win, while our bow cavalry forlornly stare at the stats, at how little kills they have... IGdood
Anyways...turns out Oki wasn't marching on Etchu, but Echigo. I can never get my Japanese province names correct.... They think they can take on the bribed garrison. I will show them just how wrong they are. I've got plenty of bow units, and due to that range I can place them on the upper tiers. The melee units will have to stay on the lower tiers. It's more traditional..sorta. I move the yari kachi away from the walls so they don't get killed off by the wooden cannons bombing the wall. Hm, so that's what the Shinsengumi Police Force look like. They seem to be able gunners and melee combatants. I don't have all day, enemies. Hurry up with your assault please. Random ninjas. No guns here, but there are..bombs. One does not simply survive grenades. Boring. Not enough of the enemy made it up there for a decent meleefest. Meh, and I was outnumbered too. We move on to North Shinano. I've taken the liberty of modding the game so we can train Red Bear Infantry. I mean, really, the saga clan was advertised so we can use these guys but it didn't happen in-game. I WILL NOT LET THAT STAND. They've got the same stats as the Imperial/Shogunate infantry, I believe. You know, I really, really want to mod in the past unit from Shogun 2 and RIse of the Samurai into this campaign for major lulz. Anyone mind? Rewjeo
I play with small unit sizes since S2 has slowed down with the new patch... your kill numbers are so big compared to mine! What's that about flanking with carbines instead of charging? Man, I really wanna see that 50 charge bonus in action... Edited April 2, 2012 by Rewjeo
IGdood
There's slow down? I thought it ran faster for me...r it could just be my new lappy. Yeah....there were only 3000 casualties in the Boshin War. Guess your numbers are more historically accurate! 50 charge bonus? I don't recall my cavalry having that much... lol I'll charge when the time is right.
Rewjeo
The game takes significantly longer to load everywhere now for me. I dunno. Until RD, I had a kickass Ishin Shishi who might have caused more casualties than that with rebellions alone... I'd heard going Republic was super hard, so I turtled a bunch which gave me really good foreigners to train them after they came out with a huge charge bonus from the high-end buildings. I recall the general's 15 charge (before revolvers come) being pretty devastating, so 50 sounds pretty incredible. If I could just get a chance to use them, at least...
IGdood
Yeah, going Republic is basically the same as the Realm Divide back in the day, except you no longer have your Ishin Shishi/Shinsengumi and any Shogunate/Imperial infantry disband. So umm...where the fuck was I in the last update? Oh yeah, the Jozai are eager to attack the traitors who are essentially isolated from the rest of the provinces. Let's hope we can hold out. Things heat up quickly as explosive shot immediately smashes into my dismounted archers. I eagerly return the favor with ninja and grenades. They swarm me from all sides, but things look doable for now. There's enemy sharpshooters coming up the ramp, but a unit of Shogitai can easily hold them off. Holy shit, how many of the are out there? Well, they're over the walls. Time for a butcher's work! My men are no match for their Shogitai in melee. I had my ninjas deal with them while I repositioned line infantry. It doesn't work as expected. Sacrificed a few bow ki, but finally I got things to work out. Seems like they're focusing the brunt of the attack at that one corner, so I'm moving everyone back to the top tier. My line infantry suffer horribly in the melee against the enemy Shogitai. Of course, elsewhere in the castle my shogitai are utterly raping their sharpshooters.... Things seem to work out in the end....I think. It was a bloody battle. i lost plenty of units....including both ninja. Meanwhile, general Mochi has marched onto North Shinano. And I put the fleet to use by bombing random armies close to the coast. More bribery so I can take the pressure off of the Kozuke garrison.... Relations with the western powers even better, now we move on to the Gold Standard. Money is good. I can now upgrade to te ultimate defensive structure: Gun Batteries. Shame I probably won't be able to see them in action. Alright Oki, we march on to Fukushima. And somehow I am dragged into a battle by the AI.... Not much to do here, but I'm closer than I'd like to be. Gotta deploy fast. Whoa, enemy bow ki got close, but....took them out....or was it just a ploy to mess up my deployment? The Red Bear Infantry sure have some fancy headdresses. Well, my levy haven't finished positioning yet and...well...the enemy Shogitai look just about ready to rape them. This is gonna get ugly... At least they will have to wade through a lot of levy.... Bow ki shooting arrows wherever they can...
IGdood
I fell asleep updating, but anyways.... The SHogitai rape my infantry, and eventually it boiled down to my bow ki running around shooting them and kiting. Decisive Victory? That was too close! Meanwhile, North Shinano has fallen to us. Kuroda, the other Ishin-Shishi, levels up. I felt I should pick different skills from Iemasa...and here are a few pics. Seems that Oki has made his way to Fukushima...let's hope the following battle is actually exciting... Switching out a unit of line infantry for a unit of Shinesengumi in Mochi's army. We march onwards to Shimotsuke. The final upgrade level to castles is available. Star Forts. Winter arrives, and I don't feel like enduring attrition damage in Fukushima. So, I get Toshi to sabotage the small army outside so it cannot retreat. I send Oki to attack it, thus the garrison is forced to reinforce the battle. Now they fight on my terms. Now that, my friends, is strategy. A cold day in hell with a lot of forests that I can hide units in. Bow cavalry, harass the cannons! The collective health system of the cannon crew makes it funny as you watch them get shot over 9000 times before 10 of them die together. This pisses off the AI, and they now charge me. I BID THEM WELCOME WITH SHOT. THAT IS THE ONLY PROPER GREETING. As the lines engage, I sneak up some ninja, but was it necessary? My guard infantry are practically chewing up these guys to bits. Well, that was all...too quick. We have Fukushima, and it turns out that it used to belong to the Aizu, a Shogunate clan with a ton of funny-named units. I decide to make them my vassal so maybe it can convert over to the Imperial side? Oki levels up in the meantime. I put more points into defensive abilities. Hmmm.... The Satsuma declare war on the Aizu immediately, but I didn't join them. However...the next turn....the Aizu joined my enemies list. Gold STandard researched, but I don't notice an increase in trade income. So I research Charter Oath for more moneyz. Let's head for Sado next, Oki? Get on the ships.
IGdood
TO SADO I've managed to bribe together a huge army and sent them to Shimotsuke. Mochi can go somewhere else. I have an obsession with the idea of capturing enemy units and using them back against foes in strategy games. The Aizu have about....4 units that they do not share with any other clan. Here's the White TIger Force, the "levy infantry" of the Aizu. Better stats. NO ONE IS SAFE. This pic doesn't need any explanation. The National Railway Company is now available. I get bored, and with such a huge amount of naval support, let's take Sado by assault. Within seconds I ask Oki to "SHATTER THEIR SKKKKKYYYY" and hell is unleashed. Your towers mean nothing. I like little details. I can see the fleet in the distance waiting for more bombardment orders. Alright, enough pummeling. CHARGE! LAY DOWN SUPPRESSIVE FIRE I'm taking quite a few casualties too...but...totally worth the epicness of the gunfight. Let's mop up. Send in the ninja! KILL EM ALL. Gut their....bellies! Stealth mode ninja can't be seen even though they right in front of the enemy bodyguard. I love decapitations. Last man to fall. Give him a coin. These little dilemmas spice up the game. I'll let this guy live. We are currently at Edo, historically this is where the Shogunate resided. And Oki moves on to Ugo....because....ugggguuuuu
IGdood
Through some unfortunate turn of events, I lost North Shinano in a siege I did not record. But of course, 1 step backward, 40 steps forward. Charter Oath established...boosting income up by 5000. Moving on to Private Academies... Ugo has an armorer, making any units trained here have extra armor, something useful in an era of guns....or not? AUtoresolving pointless battles.... Suddenly, I am greeted with the victory screen. LOL WUT WE WON?! Anyways, victory or not, we'll crush the Sendai! The Aizu aren't building up their province, so I figure that I should conquer it, modernize the shit out of it, and then let it rebel so I can have the Aizu produce special units that I can bribe. No Shogunate force offers a challenge. Private Academies built, now on to Koketai...whatever that is. Elsewhere, generic forces gather to retake North Shinano... Interesting.... Mochi conquers Odawara, wherever that is. North Shinano falls back into Saga hands.. And yes, I am getting lazy. Until now...here, have a battle. Forests everywhere! Ambush force going to the woods. I downloaded a mod that unlocks Light Infantry Behavior for Sharpshooter units. It makes them kneel and take cover when toggled, reducing casualties. Note the bility icon is the same as it was from Empire Total War. Doesn't look like the Jozai will come this way, so let's hide here. Argh, shit...they're sending their cav this way...OPEN FIRE! Saber cav, dismount so the enemy yari ki won't slaughter you on contact! On the other end, the revolver cavalry withdraw and Kyoto Police back them up. The Saber Cav...or Neopineapple Huggers as I should call them....take heavy casualties, but buy time for the carbine cav to regroup and fire back. Sharpshooters take some time to actually fire whilst in light infantry behavior for some reason.
IGdood
Withdrawing the cavalry.... too diminished to be an effective fighting force. They're closing in! And they chewed up one group of infantry too! And the battle ends as quickly as it began. So we finished researching some philosophy and we've moved on to....censorship. Moving on to research ramming. Random screenshot of the White Tiger Force. I dig the officer's clothing. GIVE ME A CHALLENGE DAMMIT Good bye Sendai Steamrolling time~ Ramming researched, moving to armor-piercing shell. Random screenshot I caught of sharpshooters firing whilst in light infantry mode. Izu captured..and...well..the Nagaoka Shogunate Vanguard is no more. Letting the Aizu home province rebel.... Armor-piercing shell developed, making advanced version now. Now even the Jozai are gone.... Tossing in a joke unit of vetted up Matchlock Kachi in Mochi's army. Not a lot of provinces left... Hm...turns out I wasn't studying censorship (these screenshots are a week old) I like how the Aizu have pretty funky unit names....Vermillion Bird force woot woot Western techs are always welcome. Bribed a few birds...these guys seem to be elites. Well, shit, we've maxed out our technology. The fuck? My allies wiped out the Aizu...damn...I wanted to bribe over their other awesome units...like Black Tortoise Force and the Azure Dragons.. Okay, what the shit? IGdood
They send me marines, I send them goods. IGdood
So I said I was bored, and so because I'm pretty much now a bit of a vet with modding the game, I ported over all the units from past eras into Fall of the Samurai for a big clusterfuckfest. Be prepared to see many familiar faces, and a few new ones ,either because I modded them in or they were dlc that appeared after my first shogun 2 playthrough. eclipse, if you're still reading this, the old Pineapple Huggers are back....HEHEHEH Annnd the last of the Matsumae sally out from their stronghold. Let's kill 'em all. 4-Star Oki stares the fuck down out of the other guy. Starting off with a BANG. Long-range fire from gatling guns is a sight to behold. Watching a video of 10 of these guys mowing shit down is insane. By the time they reach my line, they're finished. The Carbine Cav flanking is just to hasten the process. Good night, sweet prince Matsumae. fufufufufufu Now with no Shogunate clans left, I think it's time to screw the Tosa and the Satsuma for being such passive allies. But first, I will get rid of Tanegashima. They got a good navy, the last time I checked, and so this bonus is appropriate. War? WAAAAAR! As expected, none of my allies join me in the war. Finally, we get to flex our naval muscles. HMS Warrior, GO! Wait, why is Casper Brindley a Japanese dude? Anyways, the Warrior is a fine ship of Her Majes-....I mean the EMPEROR. The enemy's got plenty of Ironclad Kotetsus, but we have Advanced Armor Piercing Shells. The plan's gonna be this: The Warrior and Kotetsu will head in first and draw fire. The weaker wooden/copper vessels will hit them from the side. The Kotetsu has gatling guns on the sides, huh. Also, note that some cannons are safely housed in turrets. Taking heat, FIRE BACK! Flanking maneuvers now. Use AP! Crack their hulls open! Seems like they're intent on cracking my Warrior open. Good, just as planned. AP shells don't kill crews as quickly as explosive shells do, but they deal heavy damage to the hull. I have fire superiority. Close up shot of marines and gatling gun taking shots at enemy crew. A quick win, and I get a few ships to boot. To the island! Before you can disembark, you gotta bomb the port. otherwise, the port's coastal defenses bomb your ships and gives you costly attrition damage. I sense a big battle in the making... Winter arrives, I might have to suffer a round of attrition whilst Mochi waits for Oki to reinforce the attacking army. That's all for now!
IGdood
We stay here, general winter will kill us all. FORWARD! ASSAULT TIME! Traditional melee troops will do the climbing. Everyone else will provide fire support. Calling in artillery is always fun. Taking fire....return fire! Charge! How one simply limbs with huge pike like these, I have no idea. Also, matchlock kachi getting raped. Oki's army is coming up from the distance, but I don't think I even need it. Rape ensues. A second round of artilery strikes sends the defenders charging towards me, but their resolve is broken and they flee.......right through all my troops. Matchlock kachi still get raped. Joke unit is a joke. KILL EM ALL Last stand? Didn't last very long. Oki decides to go old school and incorporates 2 units from the distant past into his army. Eh? Koyosha? What be this? Moving on to besiege Kaashi. Meanwhile, Mochi takes Shiribeshi. And levels up. Now a legendary commander...it's funny to see how much experience he's gained in so short a time. SKill points spent in making him an utter badass.
IGdood
Seems like the AI will incorporate mod units into its armies. Once again, the bring process of modern warfare is shown. Line up, and march. I was tailing the army with some ninja, hopefully to cause chaos when the shooting begins.. But then I uncovered a unit of katana wako...who then spotted my ninjas...and then hell broke loose there. Ah, I missed those rocket troops. The Tanegashimans are shredded. And so are my ninja. Guess they couldn't beat those guys in a straight up fight. Okay, so much for the ninja. Koyosha part 2. Of course we'll apprehend the murderers. Another province is wrested away from the Tanegashima. ANd they had the guts to attack our capital port of Nagasaki! Rainy, foggy, and I got cannons pointed everywhere. They come at me one by one, funneled into a killzone. Dumb move. Moving on to besiege...umm..Sapporo, the land of Japanese beer. (The other one being Asahi beer) I realized that the Tanegashima still have a few more provinces inland and on their actual capital island, Tanegashima all the way in the Southwest. Well, taking a train helps, now that the railways aren't sabotaged every fucking turn. Quickly trained up an army of past....sending them to.... It's a shame the AI can't really put up a high-quality army to fight us. That's why I'm going to declare war on BOTH the Satsuma and Tosa after I finish off the Tanegashima. It's a nice, dreamy day with a case of mist. They've got a lot of saber cavalry, but that's what the revolver and carbine cavalry are for. It's interesting ow the AI skirts around to the flank, but they could've just charged traight at my cavalry (who's shooting them) instead of dancing around like idiots. Routed their cav, now their infantry line is just being invited to be chewed up.
IGdood
Alright, let's do this. I like a challenge. Assuming this is even suposed to be a challenge. This what the Vermillion Bird forces are supposed to look like. They look just like the Shogunate Infantry.... I've got cav and wako in the woods, ready to give them a deadly bite. That's a lot of red dots on the battlefield. Soften it up with a naval bombardment. Enemy aber cavalry ran into my naginata cav in the woods. ROck beats scissors, Naginata beats Cavalry. GG. TONO, -moonspeak- Me: What? Boshin unit: Sir I berieve dey ar franking us. I'm not too worried about the assault on the front, but that saber cavalry damn won't be flanking me any time. NOT WITH.... YARI ASHIGARU GOZAIMAS Hey why are you running the other way? Revolver cav deliver copious amounts of rape to my spearmen. In 2 volleys they took out 120 of the poor fuckers. But I charged and raped them back with a 20-foot pole. Guh, they spotted my wako. CHAAARGE Meanwhile, my cavalry spring from the woods and plow into enemy infantry. The tide turns as the enemy chain routs from panic. Katana Cavalry, the ancestors of the Saber Cavalry. Epic win. We continue to besiege Mito. Sapporo is captured. Ah fuckit, let's assault Mito. I deliberately choose to fight in foggy weather, as it nerfs all ranged weapons, something my army doesn't have a lot of. Immediately enemy reinforcements come from my immediate rear left. CHARGE! Whoa whoa hold fire, you're killing our own guys in the woods! I enjoy these graphics. Fast forward some, we're already kicking ass at the castle. IGdood
We have captured Hitachi, wheeee... And I did this for the lulz. Dohoho, nice. Normally you won't be able to get French marines unless you're a Shogunate-affiliated clan. French marines have the best shooting stats of all the marine units. Now, time to kill off the Tanegashima once and for all. Note that it's led by Mochi's brother, the other Mochi. (Mochiaki, to be exact.) Hey look, we're totally outnumbered here. Also I downloaded a unit mod that adds a few more foreign units to the game. Rain decreases effectiveness of ranged attacks. I count 6 General's Bodyguards. Light Cavalry, flank attack! MARINES, MAKE ME PROUD! Charge into the fray! Ignore the bullets! Last Samurai style beeech! Heavy Gunners (DLC unit for Shogun 2, Shimazu Heavy Gunners) cause knockback with their hand cannons! And being an idiot, I forgot all about my kisho ninja. Well, that's done.
IGdood
GUUUUUYS So a fellow modder and I were talking about bayonets being cut from the game. IGdood
A few dilemmas, a few wrong choices. Sorry, my subjects. Only one clan shall rule. Our alliance with the Satsuma and Tosa ARE OVER. Not sure if this counts as the most backstabby move in my whole LP. Anyways, the Satsuma are striking back, so let's get to the defense. I must be wary for they have naval support. My eye catches a tiny flare on the ground. Well...that happens when peopole call naval support. Wait, those are my troops. TAKE COVER DAMMIT! Moving the hero and heroine out of the way so I can strike their flanks later... A second bombardment flare. AI really wants to fuck up my line. WELL NOT TODAY Enemy carbine cavalry incoming. I'll charge my spear cavalry at them...! Plenty die whilst charging, but they get their revenge. Lines engaged, I get my heroes to hit their parrott guns. Rear attack those guys! The key to avoiding major casualties when hitting enemy units with lancer cavalry is to retreat right after they "Touch" the enemy and send them flying. This way the enemy soldiers can't stab back. Woops, got hit by their naval bombardment. Nevertheless, victory is mine. Let's show off the French marines a bit. Or something. Nice blue and red mixture. Also they tend to talk a lot. I expected the Satsuma armies to be more challenging. I mean, they have gatling guns...but even those don't stand up long to naval bombardments.... But these Black Bear Infantry look so fucking cool! MUAHAHAHA DIIIIE The highly-leveled agents of the Tosa and Satsuma intend to screw me over. And screw me over they did. Oki and the other Mochi were assassinated. Foreign veteran Gregory Last managed to get away with just a wound. IT'S ON NOW
