One definition is somebody who does or likes nearly -everything- they do simply for the sake of lording it over others. Another common modern use is for somebody constantly chasing new trends or experiences which may not be objectively proven to be worthwhile. The original definition, I think, was something like privileged whites who tried to adopt what they saw as the (black, mostly) jazz musician's way of life in 1940's USA. Which meant a lot of drugs, sex, music, and contempt for anybody who looked down on or tried to get in the way of enjoying those three.
