Why do people in Fire Emblem glow before they die?

Recommended Posts

Because they're not M-rated games. Dead bodies must be teleported away from the innocent audience's eyes, away from view.

Unless they're zombies. Because zombies are a rout mission objective.

Imagine a battle scene in A Song Of Ice And Fire.

Got it? Axes splitting skulls with vivid descriptions? Lances bloody from going into the opponent through the weak spots on the armor? All that? Blood everywhere?

K.

good.

Now imagine all that in the Nintendo verse.

Yeah. Glowing.

There is actually a logical circumstance behind this...

In the Fire Emblem universe, people don't die, they are reborn. Every time your Marth dies, a new one is born... but not as Marth, as a Roy... or Eliwood. This is how we get archetypes. If your Raven dies, the body fades away and becomes reincarnated as another Oguma archetype... however, there are a few trials they need to face in order to be granted reincarnation. During this journey, life returns to the character in question and they are transported to an alternate realm. In this dimension, they have to wait on a huge ass line until the line person calls them up. Then, they get sent to another line... and another line. Characters who are able to endure these huge ass lines are reincarnated while characters who give up become zombies. True story.

It's their quintessence, yeah. That same mojo the Valkyrie staff collects to resurrect peeps.

Pretty much this. Especially if they were allied. Where that Quintessence collects though is another question altogether.

My guess is the Lifestream.

I also remember Claude calling that lifeforce "Aegir".

We would know more if Tiltyu hadn't interrupted his explanations of the Valkyrie staff.

No wonder there are some many zombies in FE8. They all failed so hard at a easy game and they just gave up.

This actually makes sense

"Aegir" is just the Japanese name for quintessence, and it was only recently that the FE4 patch was updated to stop using Japanese names for things.

Got a quote from the Japanese script to back that?

http://www.pegasusknight.com/mb/fe7/st_map20.html

[ニルス]

・・・ただし、どちらの行為も

たくさんの【エーギル】が必要だけど。

I recall him mentioning quintessence in the English version of that conversation.
